The first full week of the 2026-27 NBA regular season has come and gone for the Boston Celtics, and it has been a busy one for the storied franchise. The Celtics notched their first three wins of the season against the reigning champion New York Knicks, the Chicago Bulls, and Brooklyn Nets after dropping their season opener to the Detroit Pistons the week prior, for starters.
The beef (or lamb chops and gravy or whatever we want to call it) between Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown not only took on new life, but picked up new combatants. Around the rest of the league, a number of teams have surprised early, others disappointed, and injuries are running rampant across the ******* ociation before we hit the month of November. The outperformance has been driven by an unusually sharp surge in global refining margins amid the war in the Middle East, which has significantly tightened the world's refining capacity and reduced supplies of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) is about to significantly expand its operations in Venezuela. The company's CFO, Eimear Bonner, revealed at a Barclays conference on September 8 that the American oil giant plans to more than double the number of oil rigs it operates in the country as part of its five-year plan to increase output.
The statement follows the company's recent announcement that its joint venture partnerships in Venezuela would invest more than $7 billion to more than double oil output to 600,000 barrels per day by 2031. The current production from Chevron's three Venezuelan JVs totals around 290,000, which is all exported to the United States.
The move builds on Chevron's longstanding presence in Venezuela, as it was the only American oil major that continued operating in the country under a special US license, allowing it to produce and export oil despite the sanctions.
The expansion comes alongside a much larger agreement between Washington and Caracas announced this month, which gave the US majority control over around 20% of Venezuela's proven crude reserves. The White House has now invited American oil companies to revive and modernize the South American country's oil infrastructure and more than double its crude production in the next few years.
Chevron has maintained operations in Venezuela since 1923 and even stayed through the nationalizations that forced ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips to exit in 2007. This gives it a significant competitive advantage, since it already has a longstanding relationship with the state-owned PDVSA and extensive experience operating in the country's complex regulatory environment.

Oil futures have been rising, but recently hit a peak. ConocoPhillips (COP) reported strong Q2 earnings on Aug. 6, and COP stock may be fairly valued. However, shorting COP puts and vertical put credit spreads are attractive alternatives for value investors.

Down 23-3 in the fourth quarter. Twenty-one unanswered points - against the No. 1 team in the country. A Heisman Trophy campaign that roared back to life. The return of Texas football's running game, redemption for a quarterback and a program, and a huge win over the Buckeyes that has Texas in place to possibly become the new No. 1 team in the country.
Saturday night's 24-23 thriller had it all.

After surviving what was probably the worst first quarter of the Steve Sarkisian era, No. 4 Texas produced perhaps the biggest win ever at Royal-Memorial Stadium.

First-inning runs alone won't get you over the line most of the time. Stopping at a pair of early solo shots—at least until the ninth inning—the Dodgers' offense left a lot to be desired in a 4-3 loss to the Marlins, as Tyler Glasnow went through plenty of issues in his shortest regular start of the season (4+ IP). The hard-throwing right-hander walked four and seldom looked in rhythm.
Beginning with a bang, the Dodgers made a statement against Tyler Phillips in the first, taking a 2-0 lead with back-to-back long ****** from Mookie Betts and Max Muncy—the one from Betts had special value, given it represented the 10,000th home run in Los Angeles Dodgers history. The problem is that this so-called statement was left at that, with the offense failing to record another hit in Phillips' three-plus innings of work, pitching with a short leash.
By the time Phillips was removed from the game in the fourth, the Marlins had already taken the lead courtesy of a three-run second against Glasnow. Josue De Paula came back from down in the count to earn a walk against Phillips in the fourth, enough for the Marlins to make the call to the bullpen and bring in left-hander Cade Gibson to retire Hunter Feduccia.
The Dodgers trailed at this early point because Tyler Glasnow seemed to be swimming against the tide for the better part of this one, meshing small periods of dominance with worrisome rallies. After squeezing his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, Glasnow coughed up three runs in the second. The damage started with a two-run shot from Graham Pauley and later on with three straight singles, the last one an RBI knock from Otto Lopez.
It then looked like Glasnow would figure things out with clean innings in the third and fourth, including striking out the side in the latter, but that calmness was short-lived. Walking the first two batters of the fifth, Glasnow was removed, recording just 12 outs and leaving quite a mess for Jack Dreyer, who did himself no favors by loading the bases with an 0-2 HBP. In what felt like a pivotal inning for the Dodgers to remain in this game, they caught all the breaks—an errant throw from Mookie Betts on a routine grounder was snagged by Alex Freeland, preventing multiple runners from scoring, and in the following at-bat, Kyle Tucker flashed the leather with a smooth sliding grab to keep everyone at their stations. With one out, Dreyer induced a timely double play as Agustin Ramírez absolutely smoked a groundball right at Betts. And just like that, the score was at a still manageable 4-2 deficit.

Once the ball kicked off at 9:15 p.m. vs. Miami Northwestern, the Hornets made their statement in their typical fashion.
Through a physical, defensive brand of football that results in a win.
Hawthorne defeated Miami Northwestern 16-12 Thursday night at Annie Mae Phillips Stadium to improve to 4-0 on the 2026 season and hand the Bulls their first loss of the season.
The tone of the game changed drastically after Hawthorne QB and 2025 All-Area Small School Player of the Year Richard Roundtree suffered an ankle injury on the first drive.

Fourth quarter, as Drake Maye lofts the illest-advised pass of his career to your new favorite player, Joshua Jobe, Esq.: "Knew it. They had it all the way."
With a season-opening 13-10 rope-a-doping of Maye and his New England Patriots, the Seattle Seahawks began their Super Bowl defense the right way. The confounding questions surrounding the secondary were answered with three picks in the final frame, and the thorniest question about depth was answered when Drew Lock essentially saved the day in relief of Sam Darnold.
Yes, it took Seattle three nigh-unwatchable quarters to get the bugs out. But once that fumigation was done, we were treated to an evening of fun-igation, punctuated with everything a championship team does when it's not quite ready to relinquish its **** le. Including having a kicker who knocks 'em through the uprights. Did I mention they answered just about all the preseason questions we had?

The Dodgers stared in the eyes of a third straight defeat, but a walk-off double by Teoscar Hernández lifted the Dodgers to a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.
The Cardinals were the first to strike against Tarik Skubal, as after St. Louis put the first two men on with a pair of singles, Joshua Báez smacked the third single of the inning through the right side to bring home José Fermín.
Skubal managed to work a scoreless second inning with a pair of bookend strikeouts while leaving two men on, but the Cardinals broke through in the top of the third with a pair of two-out singles from Leo Bernal and Ramón Urías, plating Iván Herrera and doubling the Cardinal lead. Skubal found himself in a groove over his next two innings, but once again put two men on in top of the sixth inning. After striking out Nathan Church for the second out of the inning, Dave Roberts went to the bullpen, pulling the left-hander after 5 2/3 innings.

(NewsNation) — The Juneau, Alaska, community is mourning the loss of 16-year-olds Leotis Phillips and Zoey Clark after they were found dead in the woods with a gun on Monday.
"I can't imagine the pain they were in to make this decision," Ariah Clark, a cousin of Zoey Clark, said at a candlelight vigil Tuesday, according to the Juneau Independent. The outlet reported that more than 150 friends, family and teachers gathered at Clark's high school for the vigil, near where the teens' bodies were found.

Taylor Phillips may be known as a very recognizable gay influencer, but the model admits that his current reality didn't just happen overnight. Before social media really took off with major platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, the star would built an incognito account on Tumblr to manifest his dream life.
"I'm from a small, conservative town in southern Indiana. Growing up, I thought the best thing I could do was work at the bank. I started online in 2009 and I was an OG Tumblr kid! That's really where it started. I've been a kid of the internet for many years. I was manifesting this aesthetic and now I'm living it," Phillips tells Out.
Once Phillips graduated college and took a leap of faith by moving to New York City as an aspiring model, the creator picked up a camera and started documenting his life on YouTube. The biggest question facing the Carolina Panthers going into the 2026 season is how much quarterback Bryce Young will improve compared to last season. On the other side of the ball, the big unanswered question is if their pass rush can finally claw their way out of the NFL's basement after a bottom-five finish in sacks three years running.
To their credit, the Panthers went out of their way to improve their defensive front seven in free agency, signing edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and linebacker Devin Lloyd, a great pass rusher for his position, to huge deals.
Now, can defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero get this group up to a respectable level in the all-important pass-rushing category? That's what The Atheltic's NFL ***** yst Robert Mays will be watching for in the first month of the season:
Is Jaelan Phillips enough to take that pass rush from a team that finished 32nd when rushing four to a unit that feels dangerous? Because that's about more than individual talent, and he really is the only guy you're adding back into that. Turk Wharton is still hurt. You lose Nic Scourton before the season. There are some teams that even if they don't have the horses pass-rush wise, the plan feels dynamic.

The Atlanta Falcons made a splash less than 12 hours before the NFL's 53-man roster deadline, trading cornerback Clark Phillips III and a fifth-round pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for defensive tackle Gervon Dexter. It was known that the Bears had been shopping Dexter, who recorded six sacks in 17 starts for Chicago last season.

They announced 15 cuts from their training camp roster and one cut from injured reserve on Friday afternoon. All 32 teams need to get down to 53 players by Sunday afternoon's deadline.
Four of the players were released as vested veterans. Cornerbacks Tre Avery and Tyler Hall joined offensive tackle Tyre Phillips in getting dropped from the active roster while tight end Jack Stoll was released from injured reserve.
They also waived tight end Drew Biber, offensive tackle Jeremiah Byers, punter Nik Constantinou, safety Christopher Edmonds, cornerback Nate Evans, defensive tackle Coziah Izzard, defensive tackle Patrick Jenkins, cornerback Jeremiah McClendon, offensive tacke Izavion Miller, defensive end Jamil Muhammad, wide receiver Ben Patterson, and tight end Jermaine Terry.
Cleveland has many more moves to make to hit the roster limit and there will likely be some immediate churning as other players shake free around the league in the coming days.

The ACC is following the lead of the Big Ten and SEC in putting a curb on coaches from adding players to their rosters who have declared for NFL, NBA or WNBA drafts or signed pro contracts. Phillips, who spent 29 years as the official scorekeeper for Commodores basketball games, wrote the book.
The Battle Ground Academy and Middle Tennessee State graduate died Aug. 25. He was 65.
Phillips was born May 3, 1961 in Nashville.
During his 29 years as a scorekeeper for Vanderbilt, Warren scored six SEC tournaments, three NCAA tournaments and three Ohio Valley Conference finals.

The Brooklyn Nets are about one month away from their training camp that will prepare them for a 2026-27 season that they hope will be better to watch than the previous campaign. Heading into the 2026 NBA offseason, Brooklyn made various moves to improve the roster, including trading for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle to bolster the starting lineup.
Now that the Nets are done with the 2026 NBA Draft, summer league circuit, and free-agency, the focus now is making sure everyone is ready to put their best foot forward next season. It's something she'd had to do many times over a career that spanned decades and genres. With a fanbase that included grandmas and Gen-Zers, Republicans and Democrats, drag queens and evangelicals, Parton was a kind of unicorn in America's polarised society.
"She is the one person who straddles political divides… the so-called culture wars," said Sarah Phillips, who teaches an Anthropology of Dolly Parton course at Indiana University - and still finds it hard to speak about the singer in the past tense. The professor "curled into a ball" in her office and "just sobbed" upon hearing of the death.
