"He's in the building and being part of our program and learning the heck out of our defense," coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Saturday regarding Arnold. "Keep training and stay ready for when there's an opportunity."
It's still unknown when an opportunity will arise. In general, players on the Commissioner Exempt list due to criminal charges remain there until the case is over and discipline, if any, is imposed by the league. But the NFL has deviated from that approach in the past; in 2024, then-Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers spent seven games on paid leave, returning before his case went to trial. (He was acquitted of domestic battery in January 2025.)
Arnold's next court date happens on October 5. A trial hasn't been scheduled. Barring a plea deal, it's unlikely Arnold's case will end before the conclusion of the 2026 season.
The overriding question is whether the league will stick to its general approach that players will remain on paid leave until the case ends, or whether the league will allow Arnold to return at some point later in the season.

While the Detroit Lions are preparing for the 2026 season, the latest NFL rumors project that the team could lose one player. According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, the Lions have committed more than $1 billion to star players, including running back Jahmyr Gibbs, which leaves veterans Brian Branch and Sam LaPorta fighting for new contracts this upcoming season. Graziano does not expect a new contract to materialize before Week 1, but Lions general manager Brad Holmes expresses his desire to keep all star players from the 2023 draft class, including LB Jack Campbell, for a "long time."
"We still want to keep those guys around; those plans haven't changed," Holmes said Wednesday, via Richard Silva of The Detroit News. "There's a couple factors that we've still got to sort through. But in terms of us wanting those guys around? Absolutely. Hopefully, we can get that done."
"Hopefully" is a strong word for the Lions. Detroit is walking into the season without triggering new deals for Branch or LaPorta, who are both coming off season-ending injuries. Both are also set to become unrestricted free agents next offseason.

Unfortunately, it will probably come down to who can stay healthier and make an immediate impact this upcoming campaign. After all, Branch and LaPorta have proven to be top-5 athletes when healthy. However, the former second-round pick and 2024 Pro Bowl safety may have an edge here. The Lions were forced to release cornerback Terrion Arnold this offseason due to the latest investigation, and if they give up another elite secondary threat, it could become detrimental to the team's defense.

On Wednesday, Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes spoke to the local media for the first time since the team made the decision to cut Terrion Arnold following his arrest in connection with an incident earlier this year that resulted in eight felony charges. It was an opportunity for Holmes to face some criticism on the way the Lions handled Arnold's situation and built the cornerback room behind him.

The Seattle Seahawks on Saturday officially signed cornerback Terrion Arnold, who is facing felony charges in Florida and will be placed on the commissioner's exempt list while the case plays out.
Arnold, 23, is facing eight felony charges stemming from allegations he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men in February. He became a free agent in June, when the Detroit Lions released him a few days after the kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy charges were levied.
Arnold will not be permitted to play or practice with the Seahawks as a result of being on the exempt list, but while the league investigates his case he can be paid and attend team meetings. It is not known when he might be able to play.
The Seahawks agreed to terms with Arnold two weeks ago. Coach Mike Macdonald said at the time that the team understood the ramifications of signing Arnold.
"We also understand that it's a serious situation with a legal matter. There's a process behind it, so we respect that," Macdonald said. "That's how we'll operate, just letting that process play out and let the league decide if and when his return to play is. We'll understand that that's at play, but there's also an opportunity to bring him and give him an opportunity to earn a position here."

The Seattle Seahawks have put pen to paper. On Saturday afternoon, following their preseason finale with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Seahawks officially signed embattled former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold. This news came via NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
News broke in mid August that Seattle was planning to sign Arnold, who is currently charged with eight felony counts of armed robbery and kidnapping. The signing was delayed as the team was awaiting word of whether or not Arnold would be immediately placed on the commissioner's exempt list. Well, that question became reality, as it was announced a few days later that he would receive that special designation while the NFL conducted its own investigation.
Arnold's status with the league has apparently not deterred the Seahawks in their desire to improve their cornerback room. Arnold is on the team, but he cannot play or even practice with his new teammates while on the commissioner's exempt list. We saw on HBO's "Hard Knocks" that general manager John Schneider sees this signing as a long term investment, hoping he can provide some much-needed reinforcements to the secondary during the playoff push.
For now, the 12th Man must be patient. Arnold's next scheduled court proceeding won't be until October 5th in Tampa, Florida. That's already a long time to wait to get a better idea when... or if... Arnold will take the field as a Seahawk.

Terrion Arnold, the 24th pick of the 2024 draft, was released by Detroit in June while facing felony charges he has denied, and he agreed to terms with Seattle this month. Reed inherited the No. 1 job, and the group behind him has been shuffled and interrupted by injuries throughout camp.
Tim Twentyman wrote in the club's own training camp position preview in last month that "the Arnold release hurts Detroit's depth at the position," adding it would not surprise him if general manager Brad Holmes added to the spot before the regular season. That went up five weeks before Gonzalez's name entered the conversation, written by someone the team employs.

When the Arizona Cardinals waived Trey Benson with an injury designation on Monday, Aug. 24, it earned them unwanted admission into a dubious club.
Twenty-eight months after they entered the NFL, 96 of the first 100 picks in the 2024 draft remain on active rosters. Benson, now, is among the four castaways — until and unless he gets scooped up elsewhere.
The three others: Ja'Lynn Polk, a second-round wide receiver who finished his rookie season with 12 catches and missed all of his second season with injuries before retiring; Jermaine Burton, a third-round wide receiver who developed a habit of missing practices and was involved in a domestic dispute; and Terrion Arnold, who currently faces the possibility of life in prison on kidnapping and robbery charges.
That is the company Benson currently holds. But most concerningly, he's not alone. For the Cardinals, this may just be the beginning of a week-long purge of former top draft picks.
In that same 2024 draft, the Cardinals selected cornerback Elijah Jones with the 90th pick. They seem to have five roster locks at cornerback, meaning Jones could be competing with Starling Thomas V for one roster spot. If that's the case, Thomas would seem to have the inside edge, despite a poor preseason. He was a reliable contributor in 2024 — something Jones has never been — and may need more time to return to full strength after a torn ACL last July.

Seattle worked out veteran Trevon Diggs, a two-time Pro Bowl selection and former first-team All-Pro, according to the NFL's transaction wire. The Seattle Seahawks recently announced their intention to sign free-agent cornerback Terrion Arnold. The Seahawks were defeated 17-7 by the Dallas Cowboys. Predictably, the cornerback depth was exposed. Depth behind Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe has been questioned by fans all offseason long, and Arnold would represent a pretty big upgrade.
Shemar Jean-Charles especially struggled, allowing four receptions on five targets for 78 yards and a touchdown, per Pro Football Focus. Rookie Michael Dansby was also tagged with allowing a touchdown in coverage. Fellow rookie Andre Fuller gave up three catches on three targets.
The Seahawks do not have in-house solutions should Witherspoon or Jobe be sidelined with injury for any amount of time. If the Arnold signing is finalized amidst his off-field legal troubles, the Seahawks will have a depth cornerback they can rely on (at least on the field). The preseason exposed an issue we knew Seattle had, and Arnold could address that issue.

The second episode of HBO's 'Hard Knocks' chronicling of Seattle Seahawks training camp and preseason had one very interesting nugget that remains an ongoing story for the Super Bowl champions.
Former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold, currently facing several felony robbery and kidnapping charges, tried out for the Seahawks at the team facility at the start of the week. While no signing is imminent and Arnold is slated to meet the New York Giants next, the 'Hard Knocks' crew does give us a revealing look into the Seahawks front office and their interest in Arnold. This comes shortly after they show Nick Emmanwori rehabbing his injured ankle, which obviously went well enough for him to be activated off of PUP.

The New York Giants, who were without three of their top five cornerbacks at practice on Tuesday, will host former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold for a free-agent visit on Wednesday, a source confirmed.
Arnold, a 2024 first-round pick by the Detroit Lions, was released on June 29. Arnold, 23, isfacing eight felony charges stemming from allegations he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men. The Lions released him after he was charged.
The **** ociated Press summarized the reason for the charges against Arnold this way:
In June, prosecutors in Florida said Arnold arranged for the men to be pistol-whipped after he wrongly suspected them of stealing $100,000 in cash and luxury goods from him. Police called him the "primary conspirator" in the February attack, and a judge set his bail at $1 million.
The legal troubles have not prevented NFL teams from looking into signing Arnold. He has already visited with the New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and Houston Texans.
