The Seattle Seahawks on Saturday officially signed cornerback Terrion Arnold, who is facing felony charges in Florida and will be placed on the commissioner's exempt list while the case plays out.
Arnold, 23, is facing eight felony charges stemming from allegations he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men in February. He became a free agent in June, when the Detroit Lions released him a few days after the kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy charges were levied.
Arnold will not be permitted to play or practice with the Seahawks as a result of being on the exempt list, but while the league investigates his case he can be paid and attend team meetings. It is not known when he might be able to play.
The Seahawks agreed to terms with Arnold two weeks ago. Coach Mike Macdonald said at the time that the team understood the ramifications of signing Arnold.
"We also understand that it's a serious situation with a legal matter. There's a process behind it, so we respect that," Macdonald said. "That's how we'll operate, just letting that process play out and let the league decide if and when his return to play is. We'll understand that that's at play, but there's also an opportunity to bring him and give him an opportunity to earn a position here."

The Seattle Seahawks have put pen to paper. On Saturday afternoon, following their preseason finale with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Seahawks officially signed embattled former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold. This news came via NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
News broke in mid August that Seattle was planning to sign Arnold, who is currently charged with eight felony counts of armed robbery and kidnapping. The signing was delayed as the team was awaiting word of whether or not Arnold would be immediately placed on the commissioner's exempt list. Well, that question became reality, as it was announced a few days later that he would receive that special designation while the NFL conducted its own investigation.
Arnold's status with the league has apparently not deterred the Seahawks in their desire to improve their cornerback room. Arnold is on the team, but he cannot play or even practice with his new teammates while on the commissioner's exempt list. We saw on HBO's "Hard Knocks" that general manager John Schneider sees this signing as a long term investment, hoping he can provide some much-needed reinforcements to the secondary during the playoff push.
For now, the 12th Man must be patient. Arnold's next scheduled court proceeding won't be until October 5th in Tampa, Florida. That's already a long time to wait to get a better idea when... or if... Arnold will take the field as a Seahawk.

NFL stadiums are more than places where football games are played. The best ones become part of the identity of their teams and cities. Some have huge crowds, great views and modern facilities. Others stand out because of history, tradition, tailgating or the feeling inside the building.
The 2026 season brings another major change to that landscape. The Buffalo Bills have moved across the street into a brand-new Highmark Stadium. The new building has a fixed capacity of 60,108, making it the NFL's smallest stadium. Standing-room areas can add about 6,000 more fans. Its roof covers most of the crowd, while the grass field, open concourses and player facilities mark a major upgrade from the old stadium.
MORE: 7 best things about NFL preseason games only real fans appreciate
Highmark Stadium is exempt because it is still settling into its new home. It will likely be one of the best once fans have had more time to experience it during a full season.
So, that leaves 29 regularly used NFL stadiums, considering the New York Giants and Jets share MetLife Stadium and the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers co-habit SoFi Stadium. Let's get a deep dive on every NFL stadium.

Ravichandran Ashwin believes Rishabh Pant needs to show greater awareness of match situations and take more responsibility with the bat, despite the wicketkeeper-batter putting together a respectable series against Sri Lanka.

Pant finished the two-Test series with 168 runs and two half-centuries. However, Ashwin feels the numbers do not tell the complete story and wants the India batter to exercise more judgement when deciding how to attack.

Pant's aggressive approach has come under scrutiny over the past few months, with questions being raised about whether he sometimes takes unnecessary risks and fails to put enough value on his wicket.

The former India spinner pointed to Pant's dismissal against South Africa in Guwahati last year as an example. While captaining India in the absence of Shubman Gill, Pant charged down the track against Marco Jansen and edged the delivery to the wicketkeeper.

Pant is currently a Test-only player for India after falling out of favour in the white-ball formats. Ashwin believes his decision-making in Test cricket remains an area that needs attention.

"My expectation from Rishabh Pant hasn't been fulfilled till now. I am very sorry. Sonal Dinusha had his strike rate up there. But the difference is high-risk options. When you have the game in your hand, these are all statements: 'That's how Rishabh plays.' It is about what your team needs," Ashwin said on 'Ash Ki Baat'.
During the discussion, the host argued that Pant's unique ability and his history of producing match-winning performances meant he should be given some freedom to play his natural game.

Ashwin, however, insisted that even an exceptional player cannot be exempt from the demands of the situation.

"Rishabh played a class knock in Sydney and Brisbane, but you couldn't have won that match without Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur. It takes 11 cricketers to build a Test and win it in the last session of the game, but it takes only 1 moment of foolishness to lose a Test," said Ashwin.

The former off-spinner clarified that his criticism was not directed at Pant's attacking style itself. Instead, he wants the batter to recognise when the situation demands a different approach.

"I am just talking about the times when these chances are being taken when the game is on the line. I love Rishabh the player. It is about playing situations in this format. Sehwag and Gilchrist played high brand of cricket, but these two don't get edged out while dancing down to Marco Jansen when your team is trailing by 500 runs. Don't place these marketing lines in front of me ever again," he added.
Ashwin also called for more straightforward feedback for Pant, arguing that his status as a special talent should not shield him from criticism.

The former India spinner pointed out that Pant has now played 50 Tests and believes his experience means he should be expected to take greater responsibility.

"Don't give one player special treatment. Thi

Jonathon Cooper has an arraignment date for his felony ****** ault case scheduled for Aug. 31, which is one day after the Denver Broncos are set to finalize their initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season.
After that arraignment, if Cooper's case goes to trial, it could be months away from a resolution. Cooper could face a potential suspension from the NFL, but the league likely won't make a decision on a potential suspension until after the legal process has been completed.
In the meantime, the NFL could place Cooper on the commissioner's exempt list, but the Broncos have not yet heard a decision from the league.
"I don't know," Payton said on Wednesday when asked if he expects to have clarity from the NFL on Cooper's status before the roster deadline. "In other words, I don't know, and you always want clarity, but I think we'll find out soon and you'll find out probably right when I do."
If the NFL places Cooper on the commissioner's exempt list, he could not practice or play in games, but the pass rusher would still be paid and he would be allowed at the team's facility for meetings, conditioning and weight training. Cooper would not count against the 53-man roster if on the exempt list.

It's taken me a couple days to figure out what I want to say about Mark Walter, Guggenheim Baseball Management, and the ownership of the LA Dodgers. There's plenty of people, including Jeff Passan, who have breakdowns of the facts and the allegations of the case. What we think we know is that Walter and Co., already enjoying an exemption in their TV deal following a bankruptcy judgement under previous ownership, further financialized themselves by taking loans from insurance companies also owned by W&C, then used the interest on repaying those loans to write off even more of their revenue sharing obligations, which are based around local TV revenue minus certain expenses.
In short, it seems the Dodgers borrowed money from themselves to lower the amount of money they owed the subsidized teams around the sport. They are under federal investigation but not really for anything baseball related, rather more inquiries into specific classifications of the various businesses Guggenheim controls. There isn't even anything the Dodgers did that specifically goes against the Collective Bargaining Agreement — they seemed to have hired an army of accountants to find every gap in the rulebook and slip another $20 bill through it. It's the same playbook that's led the Ford Motor Company to be a lending service more than a car manufacturer.
At best it seems Bob Nutting might have been shorted a couple million dollars a year, but the object lesson you should be taking out of this is one of solidarity. Bob Nutting doesn't care if Mark Walter cost him a couple million a year, if it means that together they can lower all MLB payrolls by a couple hundred million dollars.
I actually don't think this is something that George Steinbrenner would have done. Capitalism has changed — you always bought an MLB team to make money off it, of course. But it used to be that you had to put a good product on the field to sell tickets and in-stadium ad dollars, or be the St. Louis Cardinals and take advantage of the country's most powerful radio transmitter to reach farmers in 1960s Nebraska, or take on all the foreign currency risk of the Blue Jays and weigh it against the payoff of being the only game in the entire country.
Now, you inherit a court-ordered exemption from paying your fair share, and further financialize every element of the off-field operations to continually lower every possible obligation you have to the rest of baseball, and because those efforts will help champion the case for a salary cap, the 29 other men in your cohort will go along with it. Maybe, in March or May or August 2027, the knives will come out for Walter, but until the billionaire class has exacted every ounce of control they can over a new CBA, they'll stand beside each other. What's a few million when there's a billion on the line?

The Big Ten is trying to control the chaos.
Via Pete Thamel of ESPN, the conference is expected to pass a rule on Tuesday barring anyone who has been on an NFL team from being on a Big Ten roster.
It's unclear whether the rule will be enforceable. If the players have secured an injunction that allows them to return to college for a year, collective action to ban them from a group of college programs would potentially amount to the same kind of antitrust violations that have created the current ripple effects.
Of course, the Big Ten may not care. With the return of NFL players to college programs instantly becoming a widely unpopular development, the dynamic becomes an opportunity to try to build more momentum to get the Protect College Sports Act passed — thereby giving the NCAA the antitrust exemption it craves, along with the ability to partially pick the pockets of players who have leveraged the reckoning into revenue that would otherwise go directly to the schools.
In other words, it's more performative than substantive. Like the outcry after Brendan Sorsby won an injunction to play at Texas Tech. People don't like the idea of NFL players returning to college programs (never mind the fact that Nick Saban invited former NFL players to practice with current Alabama players), and that disdain can be used to help the system get what it so badly wants.

Shein Global Holdings Limited launched its global offering on Monday, selling approximately 280 million Class B shares at between HK$47.60 and HK$49.50 per share, valuing the company at close to $27 billion at the top of that range.
According to the prospectus, the total proceeds from the offering could reach HK$13.86 billion, equivalent to approximately $1.77 billion. The final price is expected to be announced August 31, with trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange set to begin September 1 under the stock code 00625.
The $27 billion valuation represents a decline of roughly 70% from the $98.2 billion private-market valuation Shein carried in 2022, and less than half the $64 billion figure investors **** igned to the company in 2023 and April 2024, according to CNBC.
A group of cornerstone investors, among them current Shein backers Boyu Capital, Tiger Global, and General Atlantic, committed to purchasing roughly $383 million in shares, according to Reuters. Tencent, Greenwoods, Taikang Life, and UBS **** et Management will also take stock. The company intends to direct approximately 80% of what it raises toward technology upgrades and broadening its international brand footprint.
The company's compressed valuation reflects a deteriorating financial trajectory. The company reported that revenue growth fell to 8% in 2025, down from 20.7% the prior year, before slowing even further to 1.1% in the first quarter of 2026. Shein posted a $99 million net loss in that quarter, reversing a $395 million profit from the same period a year earlier, after the U.S. eliminated a duty exemption on small packages from China. U.S. revenue fell 14.3% in the most recent first quarter compared with a year earlier.

There wasn't a lot of drama along the FedEx Cup bubble during last year's BMW Championship or last week's start to the 2026 FedEx Cup playoffs. But the 2026 BMW Championship leaderboard after Round 2 action on Friday, August 21, is setting up for a potential shake up in the race for the final few spots in next week's Tour Championship.
Strong performances by Gary Woodland, Patrick Cantlay and Michael Thorbjornsen through the opening two rounds at the second FedEx Cup playoff event have positioned them to possibly move inside the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings after beginning tournament play Thursday on the outside looking in for qualification at East Lake.
Only the top-30 golfers get a spot at the Tour Championship. Last year, only Harry Hall moved from outside the top 30 to qualify for the Tour Championship during the BMW Championship. A Tour Championship berth comes with a two-year PGA Tour exemption. Players in the field this week already locked up spots in 2027 signature events by being inside the top 50.
Here's a breakdown of the FedEx Cup bubble for the 2026 Tour Championship, including who's in danger of missing and live projections for the top-30 as Round 2 continues at the BMW Championship:

NEA delivers a 7.14% federally tax-free yield, which is double MUB's 3.52%, and posted a 12% price return over the past year.
NEA slashed its distribution nearly in half during 2022-2023 rate hikes and now trades at a NAV premium, eliminating the traditional CEF discount cushion.
Don't wait: the **** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just revealed his top 10 AI stocks. See the full list FREE now.
Investors who bought the iShares National Muni Bond ETF (NYSEARCA:MUB) did so for a good reason: it is the cheapest, most liquid way to own a diversified basket of federally tax-free municipal bonds. With a 0.05% expense ratio and $45.4 billion in **** ets, MUB has become the default core holding for taxable brokerage accounts. The problem is the payout. MUB's 30-day SEC yield of 3.52% as of August 13, 2026 looks thin against a 10-year Treasury at 4.63%, and even thinner for anyone trying to live on the income. A specific municipal fund pays more than double that rate, with the same AMT-free federal exemption, and Wall Street is only now re-rating it.
Roughly 5,900 investment-grade munis make up the portfolio at MUB, held with no leverage and no active security selection. That structure keeps the fee at a rounding error, though it also caps income near the underlying bond coupons. A retiree in the 32% federal bracket with $100,000 in MUB collects about $3,520 a year in tax-free interest. The taxable-equivalent yield is roughly 5.18%, which is respectable but leaves real purchasing power close to flat once inflation is deducted. For an investor whose entire reason for holding munis is tax-free monthly income, MUB is doing the job at half speed.

The SEC just formally proposed Regulation Crypto ******* ets, a new offering framework that would let crypto projects raise up to $5M through a one-time startup exemption or up to $75M annually through a tiered fundraising exemption.
The exemptions: The startup lane allows $5M over four years with no accredited-investor requirement or per-investor cap. The fundraising lane allows $75M every 12 months, split into a $20M Tier 1 and $75M Tier 2, with Tier 2 issuers needing audited financials and ongoing reporting, and non-accredited buyers capped at 10% of income or net worth. Tokens sold under either lane wouldn't carry a rule-based resale lockup.
The safe harbor: Once a team finishes, or permanently drops, the managerial work it promised, its token can shed "investment contract" status for good—a formalized version of the concept the SEC's March interpretive guidance first floated. The rule would also preempt state-level securities registration for these offerings and certain secondary trades.
What's missing: The SEC's separate "innovation exemption," expected to let firms tokenize actual securities like stocks and trade them onchain, wasn't part of Tuesday's release. The agency explicitly said it isn't touching registered-offering rules for "digital securities" this round, so tokenized equities on public blockchains remain unaddressed.
Why the delay: CoinDesk reported the tokenization piece had been expected to land alongside the fundraising rule before the SEC abruptly pulled an Aug. 14 meeting. The holdup has been tied to White House concerns about muddying live CLARITY Act talks, internal questions over the SEC's own statutory authority, and Wall Street's SIFMA objecting to using exemptive relief for market-structure changes.

WASHINGTON, Aug 18 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday proposed a new regulatory framework for crypto ***** ets, the first major step under U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to give the industry the ‌tailored rules it has long pushed for.
The SEC's proposal would exempt certain crypto companies and offerings from U.S. securities ‌rules, which should make it easier for crypto companies to issue tokens and raise money.
The agency "seeks to provide crypto ***** et entrepreneurs and market participants with clear pathways to raise capital under the federal securities laws," Paul Atkins, the SEC's Trump-appointed chair, said in a statement.
Trump, who courted crypto cash on the campaign trail and whose family has profited from its own crypto endeavors, has prioritized reform for the sector in his second administration.
Under his Republican leaders, the SEC ended a crackdown on the crypto industry, moving swiftly last year to rescind ‌stringent crypto accounting guidance and dismiss lawsuits against Coinbase, Binance and others that the agency had alleged were flouting its rules.

The Seattle Seahawks are taking a look at another accomplished cornerback just as the availability of their planned addition at the position has come into focus.
Seattle worked out veteran Trevon Diggs, a two-time Pro Bowl selection and former first-team All-Pro, according to the NFL's transaction wire. The tryout comes as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported August 18 that Terrion Arnold will be placed on the commissioner's exempt list whenever he signs with the Seahawks, making him unable to practice or play.
The Seahawks are still planning to complete their deal with Arnold, according to Rapoport, but are working through the timing of the move. That uncertainty makes Seattle's continued exploration of the cornerback market more meaningful than a routine August workout.
Diggs offers a much different kind of option: an established veteran with elite production on his résumé, but significant questions about whether he can recapture that form after several injury-plagued seasons.
Diggs, 27, became one of the NFL's most recognizable defensive backs during his six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Seahawks' interest in Terrion Arnold playing for them has hit a snag.
So they are turning some of their attention to a former All-Pro cornerback.
Arnold, the free-agent cornerback facing eight felony charges in Florida, has yet to sign with the Seahawks. He agreed last week to sign a one-year contract with the Super Bowl champions.
But when he does sign, he likely will not be able to practice or play for his team.
That's the news of Tuesday at Seahawks headquarters. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will put Arnold on his exempt list as soon as he signs, according to a report from the league-owned NFL Network.

Former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold appears to be headed for the Seattle Seahawks, but there are a few roadblocks in the way before the former first-round pick can see the field.
Arnold and the Seahawks have agreed upon a contract, but Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said recently that they're working through some things before they officially sign him.
"We're working through that and when's the best time for him to come in, but we have an agreement with him and we'll see," Macdonald said."But I just really don't know what, you know, how we're gonna do it."
Arnold is currently facing eight felony charges from an incident in Florida involving an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping. According to the latest reports, his next court date in the trial is Oct. 5.
According to the latest report from Ian Rapoport, this process is expected to move slowly for the Seahawks, and "it will take a while" before they sign Arnold. One huge blockade in this process is the fact that Arnold, according to Rapoport, will go on the Commissioner Exempt List once he signs with a team.

Rickie Fowler has the distinction of being this week's "Bubble Boy" as he enters the BMW Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Fowler, 37, will tee off at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis at No. 30 in the season-long points standings, and only the top 30 advance to East Lake in Atlanta for the Tour Championship.
A lot is riding on the line for the 50-man field this week. While making the BMW Championship came with a big carrot — entry into all of the signature events next season — making the FedEx Cup finale offers its own set of rewards. The field will be whittled down to 30, all of whom will qualify for next year's men's majors. All 30 also get a two-year PGA Tour exemption.
More: 2026 BMW Championship payout, purse: How much is on the line? What does the winner get?
The Tour also will pay out nearly $100 million in FedEx Cup bonus money after this week. Scheffler already is a mathematical lock to be No. 1 after the BMW and collect another $22 million. In other words, this week is kind of a big deal. Plus, make it to Atlanta, and for the second straight year in a row there will be no staggered start, meaning FedEx Cup points leader Scottie Scheffler doesn't get an advantage. Everyone starts at even, and the low 72-hole stroke-play aggregate score takes home the trophy, even if it happens to be the Bubble Boy.
Let's take a look at the minimum finish required for players to make it to East Lake.

Filing for Social Security before full retirement age means active farmland management can trigger the earnings test, withholding $1 in benefits per $2 earned above $24,480.
Fixed cash rent keeps income classified as passive and exempt from the earnings test, but crop-share arrangements with hands-on management convert income to self-employment earnings.
Farmland REIT distributions count as investment income, fully bypassing the Social Security earnings test, though investors own shares rather than direct land.
Many financial professionals are salespeople paid on what they push, not whether you end up wealthier. A fiduciary is the opposite. The SEC legally requires them to put your interests first. Advisor.com's free matching tool pairs you with vetted fiduciaries from major national firms, all in under three minutes. See who you match with today.
A 64-year-old walks into retirement with $300,000 earmarked for a real **** et. He buys farmland, leases it to a local operator, and expects rent checks to arrive while he enjoys retirement. He already filed for Social Security at 62 and **** umes land is land and rent is rent. Social Security does not see it that simply.

Ricky Gervais is set to marry his partner of 44 years.
The Office creator admitted, however, that he hasn't changed his stance that marriage isn't necessary, saying rather that he is likely to wed author Jane Fallon in the coming years for tax purposes.
Assets left to your spouse or civil partner, provided they're living in the UK, are exempt from inheritance tax.
"And that will be the reason I marry," Gervais told Saga magazine. "It's mad. How more married can you be? We share all our money, we've been living together for 40 years. Some marriages don't last a year. It's horrible isn't it? I've got to get around to marrying, before I die."'
The comedian met Fallon when they were both 21 at university in London, and have been together ever since.
"We do everything together," he continued. "Go for a walk every day, eat every meal, watch telly on the couch."

The Los Angeles Rams added a punter to their roster Sunday, signing Jack Bouwmeester days after the San Francisco 49ers waived him, per NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
Bouwmeester, 27, qualifies for the NFL's International Player Pathway program as an Australian national, meaning the Rams can carry him without counting him against the 90-man roster limit. If he eventually lands on the practice squad, the same exemption applies there, giving Los Angeles an extra body at the position without sacrificing a spot it would otherwise need for a different role.
That gives the Rams two punters in camp, but it's not expected to be a competition. Ethan Evans, a seventh-round pick in 2023, remains firmly entrenched as the starter. Evans punted 50 times for a 46.3-yard gross average and a 38.0 net average in 2025, dropping 20 punts inside the 20 with a long of 68 yards. He's started every game since he was drafted.
Bouwmeester's path to the Rams ran through three college programs. He spent time at Michigan State, Utah and Texas. Across stops, he punted 213 times for 9,338 yards, earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2023 and a second-team All-Big 12 nod in 2024. He went undrafted this spring, signed with San Francisco and was waived Aug. 12, one day before the 49ers' preseason opener.
The Rams open the regular season against the 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, marking the NFL's first regular-season game in Australia. Bouwmeester grew up in Bendigo, roughly two hours north of Melbourne, and would face his former team in his home country if he's still with the Rams by then.
