World number 131 Dart had not won a main-draw singles match at a major since reaching the second round of the 2025 Australian Open.

Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes still have a lot of work to do on Liverpool's squad before the transfer window slams shut.
Admittedly, they're now on the cusp of confirming a deal for Bradley Barcola which will instantly improve their attack.
However, the Frenchman can't be the only player that they bring in before deadline day.
There are several areas among their ranks that could still do with upgrading and, without these additions, it's hard to see how the Anfield outfit will do any better than they did last term.
Obviously, Iraola's style of football will probably help get the best out of his current crop of players but, without at least some new additions, it's hard to see how things are going to get any better for the Reds.

American tennis star Jessica Pegula has dreamed about what it would be like to win the first Grand Slam of her career. She said achieving that milestone at the U.S. Open, her favorite of the four slams, would be even sweeter.
"My goal is to win the tournament," Pegula told USA TODAY Sports ahead of the 2026 U.S. Open. "It is my favorite place to play just purely because I am an American and I'm from New York State, and I do think people get behind me and encourage me a lot more than maybe even some other Americans."
Pegula has experienced both triumph and heartbreak at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York. She advanced to the first and only Grand Slam final of her career at the 2024 U.S. Open, but ultimately lost to Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. "I do feel like it adds a little bit more pressure," Pegula added.
Pegula spoke to USA TODAY Sports ahead of the fourth and final major of the year through her partnership with Vital Proteins, the official collagen partner of the U.S. Open.
Pegula, 32, is considered a late-bloomer in the tennis world. She made her professional debut in 2009, but a string of serious injuries delayed her ascension. Pegula broke through and won her first WTA ***** le at age 25 in 2019. She cracked the Top 50 for the first time in 2021, made it into the Top 20 by January 2022 and reached the Top 10 five months later at age 28.

The Tallahassee-Leon Babe Ruth 14U All-Stars came up short in their bid to repeat as World Series champions, but not before delivering another memorable run on the national stage.
Leading the way was first baseman Robert Quinn, who turned in one of the tournament's most impressive performances. Quinn blasted two grand slams Saturday, Aug. 15, powering TLBR to a 14-1 victory over Pennsylvania and securing a third-place finish at the Babe Ruth 14U World Series in Eagle Pass, Texas.
TLBR entered the eight-team championship bracket as the tournament's No. 1 seed but suffered an 8-6 extra-inning loss to California in Friday's semifinal round.

There was no hangover for the Diamondbacks after their low-scoring series victory over the Dodgers. Indeed, the offense nearly matched the entire output there, in just the first four outs. That provided a nice, soft landing for Michael Soroka, in his return from the injured list, as he threw 4.1 scoreless innings, before being removed for pitch count purposes. Zack Littell made his D-backs debut, and was awarded the win for his 4.2 innings of relief. Arizona simply took care of business tonight at Chase Field, and as a result remain tied with the Phillies for the second wild-card spot, since Philadelphia also won, in St. Louis.
Before this season, the Diamondbacks had hit only five first inning grand-slams in team history – that's over a span north of 4,400 opening frames. The last came more than fifteen years ago, in April 2011, when Stephen Drew took Ryan Dempster deep. But the team has now done it twice this year, with Nolan Arenado the man responsible on both occasions. Amusingly, he has a Rockies appeal to thank for it. With two outs, Gabriel Moreno hit a triple that rattled around in the right-field corner. It looked he then scored on a wild pitch, but Colorado appealed, saying it hit Marte. A review confirmed this, so Gabi was sent back and Ketel took first. But instead of getting out of the frame, Lars Nootbaar drew a walk, which allowed Arenado to come up with the bases loaded. Just like on May 18 against Robbie Ray, this then happened.

Coco Gauff has criticized people using the WTA Tour's gene testing policy to create "animosity towards the trans community".
Speaking at the Canadian Open in Toronto, the two-time Grand Slam champion said "I definitely support the trans community, but I also support the need of creating fairness in sport" when asked about the tour's decision to introduce a one-off test for the SRY gene.
"I understand the reasoning behind it. I do think that this kind of conversation has created a lot of animosity towards the trans community, which I'm not really a big fan of," Gauff said Wednesday after defeating Kayla Day 6-2, 7-5 in her opening match at the WTA 1000 event, one rung below the Grand Slams.
"I also understand, I guess, the biological difference and the need to protect that and preserve that. So I think it's a conversation that is very nuanced, and I need to have a nuanced answer.
"So, yes, I guess I kind of agree with trying to protect the fairness in women's sports. But I also do not like the attack that it is creating. People who don't really care, but just want to use this as a reason to attack the trans community. So I'm not really a big fan of that either."
