Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) made history in June when it completed the largest IPO in history. It's been a wild ride for the ****** e company since then. It opened at $150, meaningfully up from its IPO price of $135, and rose to as high as $225 in the following weeks. However, the stock has been mostly southbound recently, and at $109 as of writing, it is down 19% from its IPO price. Where will the stock go from here? Perhaps we can get a clue by looking at Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) first year on the market. The other publicly traded corporation headed by Elon Musk bears some similarities to ****** eX. Let's dig in.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
SpaceX took on the challenge of revolutionizing ****** e travel. It used to be extremely difficult and expensive due to the use of disposable rockets. The company pioneered reusable rockets and helped significantly reduce launch costs. Now, it is the largest player in the field and continues to innovate. ****** eX is also deeply vertically integrated, which helps the company control costs. Tesla similarly moved the electric vehicle (EV) market forward through its vertically integrated approach, innovative battery technology, and EVs that could perform just as well as gas-powered cars. Tesla went public on June 29, 2010, and about two months into its life as a publicly traded company, the stock had declined by 18%.

However, Tesla rebounded and had a respectable first year on the market, gaining 18% by the end of it, partly because of the company's plans to go beyond its first car, the Roadster -- a sports vehicle -- and to move into the mass-market category with the Model S, which it introduced in 2012. Can ****** eX also rebound and perform well through its first year on the market?

Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP)'s Big Boy 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, has been touring the country this summer, and grown adults keep tearing up when they see it. CEO Jim Vena said the tour east of the Mississippi wouldn't have been possible without one thing: the railroad operating firm's pending merger with Norfolk Southern, since Union Pacific's own tracks run west of the river. In part, the nostalgia tour is a goodwill campaign for the biggest deal in the company's history.
On the business itself, Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) reported a strong quarter. Revenue rose 12% to $6.86 billion, beating the $6.71 billion expected, and adjusted earnings came in at $3.41 a share versus $3.24 expected. The company raised its full-year guidance to high-single-digit earnings growth, up from mid-single digits. The stock rose about 2% in premarket trading. Costs rose too; operating expenses climbed 13% to $4.1 billion, mostly from a 63% jump in fuel costs linked to the Iran war.
Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) is trying to buy Norfolk Southern in a deal now valued around $71.5 billion, down from an earlier $85 billion price tag as terms have moved with Union Pacific's stock. It would create the first coast-to-coast U.S. railroad. The day before earnings, Union Pacific settled with Canadian National Railway, a major opponent that had been pushing regulators to demand more information. CN will drop its opposition in exchange for expanded Midwest access and a stake in two jointly owned terminal railroads. Vena called it proof the firm is "ready to move forward in the regulatory process." The deal still isn't approved, though. The Surface Transportation Board (STB) paused its review in May and just this week ordered Union Pacific to make employee-impact data public. Rivals BNSF and Canadian Pacific Kansas City are still lobbying against it, and some shippers and state attorneys general remain opposed. The companies still expect to close the deal in the first half of 2027.
That raises a real question. Is this merger clearing its last real hurdles, or did the CN settlement just remove one opponent out of several?
The core business (Union Pacific's actual railroad operations) is performing well on its own, guidance beat and rose, and pricing power held up despite surging fuel costs. The CN settlement removes a credible opponent and comes with political tailwinds too: Trump has publicly backed the merger and replaced a regulator who could have opposed it. Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) and Norfolk Southern say the deal would save shippers $3.5 billion a year and remove 2.1 million trucks from the road. Wall Street responded fast: Baird, RBC, and JPMorgan all raised price targets this week, with RBC citing the CN deal directly as strengthening the merger's case.

CEUTA, Spain (AP) — Thousands of migrants streamed into the tiny Spanish territory of Ceuta from Morocco on Thursday, prompting local officials to call on Spain to declare a national emergency and send the army to restore the frontier.
Spain's interior ministry said it would guarantee the safety of citizens and the integrity of the nation's border, but that the government could not declare a national emergency over migration concerns.
Video footage showed crowds of people, mainly Moroccans, walking around the breakwaters at Tarajal beach onto local roads. While the majority appeared to be young men, there were also families with women and children. "Viva España!" some shouted to a freelance photographer working for The ***** ociated Press.
Spain is a main point of arrival into Europe for migrants seeking better economic opportunities or an escape from violence in their home countries.
The escalation at the border between Spain and Morocco comes after a surge in migrants attempting to reach the small exclave, mainly by swimming.

The New York Giants began their 2026 training camp on Wednesday at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
So, what better way to kick off camp than to play John Denver's 1971 classic "Take Me Home, Country Roads," a song that extols the great state's down-home beauty.
"Thrilled to be here," head coach John Harbaugh told the media after the team's first workout of camp. "The opening song of our meeting today was, of course, (Country Roads). You better believe it. It was great. And a lot of the guys knew the words. I knew the words. So, it was fun to kind of just get here and be a part of it.
"I'm just really appreciative of the people here. How good they've been. I mean, every single person says, 'We appreciate you being here. What can we do for you?' Make you feel welcome."
Denver's iconic song is being played at sporting events across the nation, just like Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" has been for the past decade or so. That is why so many know the words. It's a catchy sing-along number that is filled with Americana that carries a unifying message.

The western rival of Union Pacific said that the carrier's latest regulatory filing doesn't change the fact that the merger with Norfolk Southern will raise rates for shippers, and prices for consumers.
"We are continuing to review the additional information submitted at the request of the Surface Transportation Board in regard to the proposed UP-NS merger," said BNSF (NYSE: BRK-B) President and Chief Executive Katie Farmer, in a statement Tuesday. "Despite UP (NYSE: UNP) and NS's (NYSE: NSC) fourth attempt to submit a complete application, the bottom line remains the same. UP and NS have not changed the core of their proposal that fails to demonstrate how combining two major railroads into a single carrier would preserve – much less enhance – competition as required by the STB's merger rules.'
The merging railroads on Monday completed the supplemental filing requested by the STB when it conditionally accepted the second merger application in late May.
"UP and NS highlight several so-called new aspects of their application, but they are more of the same – processes with multiple caveats that are difficult to understand, available to very few customers and only available for very short periods of time," Farmer said. "They do nothing meaningful to mitigate the massive anticompetitive impact of 50% market share held by one company."
The combined UP-NS would claim around 37% of North American rail traffic, according to data from Railfax. The partners' just-announced operating agreement with Canadian National (NYSE: CNI) would add another 13% share to the total.

As many Americans struggle to make ends meet, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has pledged to bring inflation back to its 2% target, but it remains unclear exactly how he plans to get there as the central bank heads into its July meeting.
The Fed often finds itself at a crossroads, balancing its dual mandate of maximum employment and stable prices. It has two main tools it uses to address both – its balance sheet and the federal funds rate, a benchmark for interest rates. The Fed typically raises its target range for the rate to tame inflation and lowers it to stimulate the job market.
After three months of accelerating inflation, it slowed in June, though some forecasters expect it may tick back up amid renewed U.S.-Iran hostilities. And after three months of positive job growth, U.S. employer hiring fell in June — leaving the Fed to sort out whether these recent swings are just noise or the start of new trends.
The Fed may also be at a crossroads when it comes to delivering on Warsh's promise of price stability for U.S. consumers. Many Americans don't want higher interest rates on their credit cards and personal loans, but they also don't want prices to keep rising. Raising the Fed's benchmark interest rate could help cool inflation, but it would also make borrowing more expensive.
Dean Lyulkin, CEO of Cardiff, a small-business loan company, said Warsh's refusal to provide forward guidance has made the outcome of the July meeting difficult to predict.

Socceroos World Cup star Cristian Volpato has allegedly tested positive for cocaine after police twice stopped him for speeding in Sydney on the same night.
The 22-year-old Australia midfielder was stopped in a BMW Coupe on the Anzac Bridge at 11:05pm local time on Thursday night after he was caught travelling between 86-94km/h in a 60km/h zone, police said.
He was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a negative result.
However, Volpato allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine when he was stopped two hours later for travelling at 109km/h in the same 60km/h zone.
New South Wales state police said Volpato was issued an infringement notice for excess speed, while his international driver's licence was suspended for six months - which means he cannot drive in New South Wales.

From the mountain range of Utah to the country roads of West Virginia and the bounce house in Orlando, the Big 12 has a wide arrange of stadiums that contribute to what makes college football so special.
Some of the most hallowed grounds in college football reside in the Big 12, with a great blend of history in stadiums more than a century old, to those that have struck fear in opponents the moment their feet touches the surface. Plus, the Big 12 may own the ****** le of having the most scenic backdrops that make for stunning visuals when taking in a game.
There is no correct way to rank stadiums, but there are several factors that go into them: tradition, aesthetics, gameday atmosphere and of course, home field advantage. Using a mix of it, this is where every Big 12 stadium ranks:
At 51,444 strong, Rice-Eccles Stadium stands alone as the best in the Big 12. Not only is it a picteresque stadium that hosted the 2002 Winter Olympic opening ceremonies, but it is a fearsome place to play for opponents. The Mighty Utah Student Section rocks the stands and its rare to have an empty seat. Utah is 47-13 at home since 2016, and somehow, the energy turns up if its a night game; the Utes are 29-6 under the lights in the past 10 seasons. All of it is why former Washington coach Chris Petersen said "it's what college football should be."

Tarik Skubal is one of the best pitchers in MLB, but that may not be enough to keep him in Detroit. With Skubal set to become a free agent after the 2026 season, the Tigers are approaching a critical crossroads. While Detroit remains within striking distance of a playoff spot, the front office must ask itself a difficult question: is a late postseason push worth risking the loss of its ace for nothing this winter? If the answer is no, then the Tigers should seriously consider making the biggest trade of the deadline.
MORE: One player every MLB team will trade at the 2026 trade deadline

Every organization hopes to keep a pitcher of Skubal's caliber, but free agency can quickly change those plans. Unless Detroit is confident it can sign him to a long-term extension, trading him now may be the smartest move for the franchise's future.
A deal involving Skubal wouldn't simply bring back prospects—it could reshape the Tigers' rotation and farm system for years to come.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office is accusing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani of attacking the Jewish state to distract from his record in New York after calling Netanyahu a "war criminal."
The prime minister's office fired back Sunday after the Democratic mayor said his administration was exploring whether it could arrest the Israeli leader during an expected visit to the city under the International Criminal Court's warrant.
"The ICC is a kangaroo court that has no jurisdiction over Americans or Israelis," Netanyahu's office wrote in an X post Sunday, amid recent reports he is nearing a trip to the White House to meet with President Donald Trump.

ATLANTA (AP) — Nearly a decade ago, Jon Ossoff was a 30-year-old Democratic congressional candidate promising Georgia suburban voters he would "cut wasteful spending" and make "both parties in Washington" be "accountable to you." His Republican opponent even complained that Ossoff "talks like a Republican."
Nobody would make that mistake today. After losing that race in 2017 and narrowly winning a U.S. Senate seat during a runoff in 2021, Ossoff is running for reelection with a full-throated broadside on President Donald Trump as a "national disgrace" leading a "Mar-a-Lago mafia" and "the most corrupt administration of all time."
The 39-year-old senator has always been a vessel for Trump opposition, no matter his message on the campaign trail. But not until now has Ossoff openly embraced the role. His approach is being noticed across the Democratic spectrum, from activists hungry for the right message in the 2026 midterms to those pining for viable presidential candidates in 2028.
This week, as Trump renewed his fixation on false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election that brought Ossoff to Washington, the senator never missed an opportunity to denounce the "world's most famous sore loser."
"The senator is definitely having a moment, and these breakout moments can certainly become a launching pad for something bigger," said Lis Smith, a Democratic strategist who helped Pete **** igieg go from being an unknown Indiana mayor to a presidential contender in 2020. She said Ossoff's approach — tying Trump's personal financial gain to his performance on the economy — is "one that more Democrats should adopt."

J.B. Hunt Transport Services is seeing heightened interest for its intermodal and dedicated services, given a steady exodus of non-compliant drivers and following the Supreme Court's ruling widening liability exposure for brokers. The changing landscape is forcing shippers to seek "safe, secure and reliable capacity," the company said Wednesday in conjunction with its second-quarter report, which was significantly better than ***** ysts expected.
The Lowell, Arkansas-based company's second quarter marked a record for intermodal volumes. It reported a 10% year-over-year increase in loads, outpacing 8% y/y growth in total intermodal carloads on the U.S. Class I railroads. (North American containers were up 5% y/y).
"[Intermodal] conversion activity is at levels we have not seen in more than a decade," said Darren Field, president of intermodal, on a Wednesday evening conference call with ***** ysts.
The company's dedicated truckload pipeline ended the period at an all-time high.
J.B. Hunt's (NASDAQ: JBHT) operating leverage was again evident in the period. It grew operating income 32% y/y to $259 million on a 19% increase in revenue. The company has removed $135 million in structural costs over the past year through AI-led and other automation initiatives.

Stu Holden hadn't been recognized by his voice before − he was used to his play on the soccer pitch doing the talking.
That was until 2018, after Holden parlayed his 11-year playing career for one in broadcasting. By that summer, the former midfielder from Texas was calling the World Cup Final in Russia alongside broadcast partner John Strong.
Later that year, he realized they'd become two of the soccer world's most-recognized voices during a trip to the grocery store. His 10-year-old daughter Kenna took off down an aisle, and Holden called after her. One customer's ears perked up; he'd heard that voice on TV.
"You're the guy that called the World Cup," the customer exclaimed.
Now, Holden and Strong are gearing up to call their third straight World Cup Final for FOX on Sunday, July 19 at MetLife Stadium. They took alternate roads to get there. While Holden never considered becoming a broadcaster as a kid, instead representing the U.S. at the 2010 World Cup, Strong hasn't known any other profession.

Isn’t it strange how the same song can sound so awful sung by a lone dude with a guitar beside a campfire serenading a lady, and yet so magnificent sung by 40,000 people around a pitch serenading a soccer club? That, my friends, is the wonder of “Wonderwall.”
Much like “Country Roads” ascended to become the unofficial theme of the United States Men’s National Team, this year’s World Cup has anointed the Oasis classic “Wonderwall” as the soundtrack to England’s magical run to the semis … and possibly beyond.
“Wonderwall”’s soccer resurgence is a perfect marriage of music and moment, a ‘90s classic repurposed for a squad on a mission, in a sport that thrives on the deep bonds between players and supporters. As England — a nation always veering from euphoria to melancholy and back, a nation always living in the shadow of its own history — tries to win its first World Cup since 1966, why not use a song from 30 years ago as its rallying cry?
You already know why “Wonderwall” is such a perfect song for a stadium singalong. It’s an easy, stately melody that proceeds at a pace ideal for singing. The first time you heard it, it sounded like something you’d been hearing all your life. No matter how many pints you’ve quaffed during the match, you can stumble your way in the direction of the right key during that “And aaaafter allll, you’re my wonderwaaaall…” chorus.
Plus, like all great singalongs, it sounds better in a group, swaying with your arms around your mates. Sure, **** ody quite knows what a “wonderwall” is, but who cares? The song evokes nostalgia, joy and camaraderie all at once. Those types of tunes don’t come along often.

NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is one of the 10 Best Stocks to Buy in 2026 According to Billionaire D.E. Shaw.
2026 hasn't been kind to AI GPU giant NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)'s shares, as they are up by a modest 9.6% year-to-date. With the shares currently trading around the $207 mark, Bank of America discussed the firm on July 8th as it reiterated a Buy rating and a $350 share price target. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was in the news recently after ***** eX announced its Grok 4.5 model and revealed that it was trained on tens of thousands of NVIDIA AI chips. Throughout the year, even though rivals such as Google and Amazon have touted their custom AI chips, NVIDIA's products have remained the leaders when it comes to performance.
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)'s own GR00T made inroads into the robotics sector recently after the firm announced a collaboration with Hugging Face to integrate its physical AI capabilities into the LeRobot open source robotics library. The partnership will allow users to consolidate human data, model fine tuning and behavior validation in a single platform.
Antipodes Global Strategy discussed NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)in its Q1 2026 investor letter:
"The opportunity in NVIDIA has been created from the market's extrapolation of near-term AI uncertainty, despite a structural demand inflection for the world's dominant AI infrastructure provider. On our estimates NVDA trades on a 2027 multiple of 13x. Management now guides at least $1 trillion in AI infrastructure demand through 2027 — double the $500bn signalled twelve months ago — and frames this as a floor with NVDA the main beneficiary underpinned by the CUDA installed base. Revenue is also diversifying beyond hyperscalers, with sovereign clouds, enterprise, and robotics growing while the SaaS-to-agentic transition represents a further enterprise IT monetisation opportunity."

Happy Monday, Spurs fans! Want another poll? 'Course ya do. This time we're going in a slightly different direction.
One of the unexpected effects of this year's expanded tournament has been a series of delightful encounters with various international fan bases, and how they've formed connections with the host nations, and cheekily ingratiated themselves into American, Mexican, and Canadian culture.
Who can forget Scotland's Tartan Army literally drinking Boston out of beer before taking over a Red Sox baseball game, and plopping traffic cones on the heads of all the statues? Or Netherlands fans swamping the roads in a sea of orange as they Hup-Hup-Hupped around? There's the Congo's sheer enthusiasm (along with the Statue Guy imitating a beloved former political icon), Norway's Scandinavian rowing thing (except for, y'know, that one guy who held on principle and historical accuracy), and Mexico's bromance with visiting ***** anese fans? Or any fanbase discovering the joys of American food, especially Waffle House?
God, there were so many. So let's take a quick poll — which World Cup fanbase has been the most fun during this summer's tournament? And of course, since you're naturally going to yell at me for not including England, let me just pre-empt you with this graphic, which I've posted in the comments of the last two polls and is still appropriate here.

HONG KONG (AP) — Major German carmakers saw sharp quarterly sales declines in China as domestic demand weakened and competition heated up in the world's biggest auto market.
At Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche, China sales for the April-June quarter plummeted between 30% and 41% compared with the same period a year ago, according to company data released over the past week.
For the first half of this year, they all reported a more than 20% year-on-year drop in China. The falling China sales have squeezed their overall profits and in some cases offset gains from other regions.
This also comes at a time when these legacy German carmakers are faced with intensified competition from Chinese automakers outside of China, including in Europe, as leading Chinese brands like BYD make inroads overseas.
The latest quarterly sales declines were some of the steepest seen for the German automakers in China, said Lei Xing, an independent auto ******* yst.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who as ruler of Qatar transformed the tiny Persian Gulf nation into a global player in diplomacy, media and investment, and then shattered tradition by voluntarily turning over power to his son, has died, state media reported. He was 74.
The state-run Qatar News Agency reported his death. It offered no cause.
Sheikh Hamad, who stepped down in June 2013 after 18 years as emir, was the architect of energy-rich Qatar's stunning ambitions that turned it from a backwater into an international crossroads in less than a generation. Qatar owns the Harrod's department store in London and founded the powerful Al Jazeera satellite news network.
Qatar's political reach today stretches from North Africa to Afghanistan and it hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the world's most-watched soccer event. Sheikh Hamad, though long out of power, received thunderous applause from Qataris attending its opening match.
But Qatar's rise under Sheikh Hamad also rankled regional and Western allies with its independent-minded policymaking, including its close ties to Shiite powerhouse Iran, the Palestinian militant Hamas group and Egypt's outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.

GENEVA — Chinese government officials are using the United Nations' AI for Good summit in Switzerland this week to, in part, reframe the open-source models that have proliferated in China. The implicit pitch: In contrast to the most advanced US models, which can be restrictive and expensive, open-source AI tools can be a development tool for lower-income countries.
"Open source is good for all countries and all groups and all people, and I believe that is the right direction," Yu Xiaohui, the president of a Chinese government think tank, said Tuesday at a panel hosted by the Chinese government.
Beijing is leaning on its geopolitical allies to advance that vision, as it looks to shape how the technology is governed worldwide and pitch itself as the developing world's AI partner of choice.
Other speakers at Tuesday's session included top officials from Russia and Pakistan, as well as Global South nations where Beijing is making inroads, like Zambia and the Maldives. A recurring theme: The benefits from AI shouldn't be concentrated in a few rich nations.

Donald Trump's public criticism, which cast doubt on Raphael Claus's integrity after the sending-off of American Folarin Balogun, has put FIFA in a real diplomatic and sporting crossroads and could end up "helping" the Brazilian referee.
According to UOL journalists Danilo Lavieri and Paulo Vinícius Coelho, what seemed like the natural end of the road for Claus in the tournament could now turn into an extended stay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Before the global fallout from Trump's remarks, the internal expectation was that Raphael Claus would end his involvement in the 2026 World Cup after officiating two matches: Spain vs. Saudi Arabia and United States vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The script would be identical to what the Brazilian experienced at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
However, the situation changed drastically with the controversy sparked by the alleged political interference of the United States in FIFA.

Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern today submitted the first portion of information requested by the Surface Transportation Board when it conditionally accepted their revised merger application May 28.
The STB set a deadline of July 27 for the partners to submit the additional data. UP (NYSE: UNP) and NS (NYSE: NSC) earlier said that the data would come in two filings. The start of the formal evaluation and environmental review of the proposed $85 billion merger was delayed pending the new submissions. But, the STB spent months gathering data prior to the railroads' initial merger application in December 2025.
The second filing is expected to cover the enhanced competition aspects of the merger stipulated by the STB.
Tuesday's filing addresses the STB's questions regarding control of local railroads Terminal Railroad ******* ociation of St. Louis (TRRA) and Kansas City Terminal Railway (KCT), and freight car equipment cooperative TTX. TRRA is jointly owned by UP, BNSF (NYSE: BRK-B), CSX (NASDAQ: CSX), CN (NYSE: CNI), and NS, with UP having the largest share. BNSF, UP, NS and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (NYSE: CP) share ownership of KCT.
Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern reiterated in their filing that they do not control TRRA and KCT, which handle interchange traffic between Class I carriers. They offered to divest their stakes in order to preserve that neutrality.

The fund's past suggests deep pullbacks often rebound, but what's inside the basket makes this time a unique decision.
Of the 5 times the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW) has fallen this steeply, 4 were followed by a positive return over the next twelve months. That is the kind of record that makes a dip feel like an opportunity. With the fund currently down about 17.7% from its 52-week high, you are likely weighing whether its history of bouncing back is a reliable guide, or if this time is different.
A dip can be a gift in a broad, diversified fund. In a concentrated one, it can be a trap. The question is where ARKW sits on that spectrum, and its own past offers a mixed verdict.
What Did Those Recoveries Actually Look Like?
The historical record is encouraging, but not without its sharp edges. For those four successful recoveries, the median return in the twelve months after a dip was +30%. But that median hides a wide spread of outcomes. Across all five instances, the one-year returns ranged from a painful negative 65% to a strong +61%. This tells us that while the odds have favored a rebound, the ride has been anything but uniform. Past dips, like the ones in December 2021 and April 2023, presented similar crossroads for investors.

SINGAPORE, July 7 (Reuters) - Chinese authorities have held meetings with top tech firms over the past month about potentially restricting overseas access to China's most advanced AI models, including those yet to be released, three people familiar with the discussions said.
The talks follow a number of steps by Beijing to keep homegrown ‌AI within the country and underscore how China, like the U.S., is now treating cutting-edge artificial intelligence as a critical national **** et that needs controls.
Companies present at the talks included ‌tech giants Alibaba and ByteDance as well as startup Z.ai, said the people, who were not authorised to speak to media and declined to be identified.
Since the emergence of DeepSeek's R1 model last year, Chinese AI models have made big inroads globally thanks to their low costs and increasing capabilities. Any decision by Beijing to limit access to those products could ripple across AI markets as costs for many businesses would likely increase.

SEATTLE — The electricity was off the charts. Drums were beating. Red, white and blue smoke filled the Seattle streets. Decibels skyrocketed. "Enter Sandman," "Free Bird" and "Take Me Home, Country Roads" had the patriotic juices flowing like Fourth of July was a weekend holiday.
From Pike Place Market to Lumen Field, Monday, July 6 was a full on party in Seattle. United States men's national team supporters partied and readied for the next major step in its soccer growth. Whether it was a longtime supporter or hopping on the bandwagon, everyone was all in on it. The renewed American dream of World Cup glory – all happening right at home.
It didn't long for that dream to turn into a nightmare – and one an entire nation couldn't escape.
"Today wasn't a good day," said midfielder Tyler Adams.
What was on the cusp of happening quickly turned into what could have been, with Belgium playing the bogeyman for millions of Americans that dared to fantasize about the U.S. becoming the next major player in soccer by eliminating the host nation in the round of 16 with a dominant 4-1 victory.

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter was roasted on social media Monday after he took to X to ridicule FIFA for clearing USMNT striker Folarin Balogun’s one-match red card ban and accusing the organization of allowing politics to influence the World Cup.
Blatter’s broadside comes as FIFA president Gianni Infantino faces some backlash after the soccer World Cup’s ruling body announced Sunday that Balogun’s suspension would be deferred under a one-year probationary period rather than immediately enforced, allowing the key U.S. player to remain available for Monday night’s clash against Belgium.
The reported move came after Trump asked Infantino to revisit the decision, according to a source briefed on the call.
Balogun was sent off after a VAR review in the United States’ 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina when officials ruled he had planted his foot into defender Tarik Muharemovic’s ankle. U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino argued the challenge never warranted a red card.
