The Pirates finally got the better of a left-handed starting pitcher and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Reds at Great American Ballpark on Saturday night.
Top 3rd, 3-0 PIT: Four walks and a base hit against Andrew Abbott (5-7) led to three runs for the Pirates (56-56). Bryan Reynolds and Esmerlyn Valdez drew back-to-back free passes with the bases loaded and Nick Gonzales followed with an RBI on a fielder's choice to second.

It seems like the conference realignment talks never truly end, and more often than not, the Tulane Green Wave is a team that is brought up for a potential big move.
The Green Wave has found success in the American Conference in recent years, and there's never been a better time to make the jump to a bigger conference. While the Pac-12 seems the most likely right now due to the fact that it is actively rebranding and finding new members, it's not the most logical choice for Tulane: the majority of its programs are located on the West Coast or Pacific Northwest.
Rather, what would happen if the Green Wave made a jump to a Power Four conference? The team was part of the Southeastern Conference long ago, but it might be too ambitious to consider a return to that league, especially since it recently added the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners. The Atlantic Coast Conference, however, seems like a more feasible landing spot. The Olive Green and Sky Blue is already in decently close proximity to some of the conference's core schools, and on a university level, it aligns well academically.
Football is the obvious moneymaker, and Tulane has made history in recent seasons. The team took down the eventual ACC Champion Duke Blue Devils early in the 2025 season and ended the year with its first-ever College Football Playoff appearance. If its current trajectory continues, then the program has what it takes to compete with many of the ACC's teams.
Of course, it's important to remember that every sport should be taken into consideration when there is a possibility to make a big jump. Tulane has a storied tradition in college baseball, but the team would likely struggle a bit more against a loaded field in the ACC. Both basketball programs would also take a hit. Most of the the other sports in Uptown would probably fare about as well as they have thus far, but a few programs would likely have to align with other conferences to have enough quality league opponents; the beach volleyball and bowling programs are currently members of Conference USA due to this issue.

Boston Celtics big man Neemias Queta seems to be a bit of an NBA history buff given his personal choice of where the Portuguese center likes to play most. Speaking in a recent interview with the Portuguese outlet A Bola (translation via Google), the Lisbon native shared that he prefers to take the court against Boston's biggest rivals in their home arenas.
"Going to play against the (New York) Knicks at Madison Square Garden is excellent," said Queta of the reigning NBA champs. "There's always that whole history. Going to Crypto Arena against the (Los Angeles) Lakers is always special because there's that rivalry."
"But now I also like going to the (Los Angeles) Clippers' arena," added the Boston big, "now that it's a super, top-of-the-line arena, full of technology and very futuristic." Even so, there is one matchup in particular that Queta is looking forward to – and it doesn't seem to matter where it happens first.
"I've already silenced everyone on the court, the only one left is Jaylen Brown," explained Queta of his former teammate and current Philadelphia 76er.

On Monday, July 27, Bucs defensive lineman Vita Vea requested a trade from the franchise that drafted him, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Vea is heading into the final year of a four-year, $71 million extension that he signed in January of 2022. The request comes on the heels of other notable defensive lineman extensions over the last year from the likes of Devonte Wyatt of the Green Bay Packers and Quinnen Williams of the Dallas Cowboys.

Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen offered an honest ***** sment of his clubs wage dynamics, defending massive paychecks for marquee stars while warning against letting intermediate squad contracts spin out of control.

Former Real Madrid academy midfielder Borja Valero has shared his thoughts on several of Real Madrid's biggest storylines in an interview with AS, discussing José Mourinho's return to the club, the pursuit of Rodri, the arrival of Yan Diomande, and what he expects from Los Blancos' upcoming preseason friendly against Fiorentina.

The biggest question surrounding the Los Angeles Rams is whether Aaron Donald will be returning to the field after two years in retirement. Donald has been working out on his own and as he ponders the choice, head coach Sean McVay clarified on Friday when that choice could be made.
During his presser with reporters, McVay stated Donald won't make a final decision until after training camp. The Rams will return to their Woodland Hills facility after wrapping up camp at Loyola Marymount with their final practice on Aug. 7.
McVay also indicated it's more likely than not that Donald will come back.
"Things are going in the right direction. If there's an arrow, it's trending upward," McVay said, via Michael J. Duarte of The California Post.
Donald will continue to train and if he wishes to return, it's likely the team will have to work out the framework of what his contract will look like this season. However, that is a minor hurdle and isn't expected to factor into any decision.

MK Dons have signed winger Sam Silvera on a free transfer after he was released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season.
The 25-year-old was a first-choice player under former Boro boss Rob Edwards at the beginning of the 2025-26 season but was unable to retain a regular place in the side after suffering a foot injury in February.
He is an Australian international, earning eight caps, but was not part of the Socceroos' 26-man World Cup squad this summer.
Silvera made 65 appearances for Middlesbrough across three seasons, scoring eight goals.
He becomes MK Dons' sixth signing of the summer transfer window as they prepare for life back in League One, their first season in the third tier since the 2022-23 campaign.

Manchester's bees are ready to sting.
This Friday morning, Manchester City unveiled their new away kit. As last season, black is once again the color of choice for the Citizens, but with a small twist.
This year, yellow has been added to the shirt, as a reference to the bees of the city of Manchester. The insect also appears as an overlay on the black background of the kit.
It is supposed to "symbolize the work, unity and resilience that define the city of Manchester."
It is also worth noting that a specific lettering style for the kit has been revealed as well.

Liverpool truly signed a star worth nearly €200m at the last possible moment. It's an incredible deal in hindsight.
Liverpool are currently working on a deal for Bradley Barcola with Paris Saint-Germain. The big problem is that PSG want a sensational amount for their third-choice winger - around €180m, per reports.
The Athletic are among those quoting that figure. It's truly bizarre, really, as this would be the third most-expensive transfer of all time for a player who doesn't even start big games for his club.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Elly De La Cruz scored on fielder's choice in the ninth inning to lift the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night in the opening game of a four-game series.

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — When Dak Prescott arrived at training camp Tuesday, he wore a vintage t-shirt celebrating the Dallas Cowboys' last Super Bowl win as a statement of intent.
After 10 years in the NFL without a meaningful playoff run for an organization that has not claimed a championship since after the 1995 season, their star quarterback is ready to end those droughts through his deeds, words, and even wardrobe choices.
"To go into training camp and to go into the season to say that those are our goals, I mean, it'd be stupid or we'd be remiss not to own that, and take accountability in that, and take pride in saying this is what we want to be and what we want to do," Prescott said Thursday.
Prescott admitted to being "definitely less patient" when it comes to the lack of postseason success, his angst rising after missing the playoffs each of the past two campaigns. He has a 2-5 record in playoff games and never reached an NFC championship game, something the Cowboys have not done over the previous 30 seasons.
However, Prescott believes the pieces are in place for the organization to move past those struggles. He expects a potent offense to be even better in its second season under head coach Brian Schottenheimer by benefitting from improved continuity on the offensive line and further growth from the pairing of standout wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens in their the second year together.

The Cleveland Browns made it through Day 2 of training camp on Thursday under the watchful eye of visiting Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
That led to far too many breathless questions from the media to head coach Todd Monken about what Sanders the elder thought about various things related to the Browns.
Fortunately, that did not distract from the important work at hand for Monken, which includes:
Figuring out who the starting quarterback will be from the equally poor choices of Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders. (Best get comfy, Browns fans, because Monken is in no hurry.)

In a submission to Britain's Competition and Markets Authority, the iPhone maker said proposed "steering" requirements would go beyond promoting competition and give the regulator a "highly intrusive" role in managing its business.
The CMA's consultation, which closed on Monday, is part of its efforts to boost competition and consumer choice. Its proposed measures would allow app developers to direct users to payment options outside Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store and require any fees charged for such steering to be fair and reasonable.

We knew Taysom Hill could run and pass, but he proved he could catch on this 45-yard touchdown reception against the Carolina Panthers. That's an easy choice for our New Orleans Saints Play of the Day.
Hill may have scored on this play, but it was Drew Brees' day to remind everyone just how lethal he could be so late in his career. The future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback cruised to 253 yards and three touchdowns on the afternoon, going 19-of-30 and completing passes to eight different players.
With that said, this play was all Hill's doing. The versatile playmaker ran a crossing route and lost the defender trailing him to get wide open short of the first down marker -- then he cut upfield to pick up 20 yards. A timely block by his teammate Tre'Quan Smith cleared a lane to get Hill to the 5-yard line before the Panthers defense closed in, but he fought through tackles by Tre Boston and Jermaine Carter Jr. for the score.
