RTX Corporation (NYSE:RTX) on Thursday lifted its sales and profit outlook for 2026, amid sustained demand for commercial aircraft maintenance and military systems, as airlines continue to rely on older fleets and governments restock weapons.
The aerospace and defense company now projects adjusted sales in the range of $95 billion to $96 billion, up from its earlier estimates of $92.5 billion to $93.5 billion. Wall Street has an average forecast of $94.08 billion. The full-year adjusted EPS is expected in the range of $7.10 to $7.25, up from $6.70 to $6.90, and above ******* ysts' forecast of $6.92 per share.
The forecast lift came during the second quarter earnings call on July 23, where RTX beat Wall Street's estimates for both revenue and profit. Quarterly revenue came in at $24.7 billion, growing 14% year-over-year, while adjusted EPS was logged at $1.89, representing a 21% increase from the prior year's period.
The Pratt & Whitney unit, which manufactures engines for Airbus jets and the F-35, saw a 16% increase in sales to $8.89 billion, while demand for air and missile defense systems drove an 18% sales growth in the company's Raytheon defense business. Collins Aerospace, which delivers advanced aviation systems, saw an 8% increase in sales.
The company said its backlog expanded 22% from the prior year's period to $289 billion, which included $170 billion in commercial aerospace and $119 billion in defense-related orders. Operating cash flow during the quarter came in at $3.5 billion, resulting in free cash flow of $2.9 billion.

Anthropic will pay $1.5 billion to authors whose pirated books it used to train its AI in the largest copyright settlement in U.S. history.
Federal Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin in Oakland granted final approval of the settlement Monday. The record payout was a modest win for copyright holders, setting a precedent as a wave of AI-related lawsuits works its way through courts.
Although the judge said Anthropic could use authors' works for training, he backed the payout for acquiring and storing pirated books.
More than 500,000 authors and publishers were part of the class-action lawsuit, and they will get paid an estimated $3,000 per eligible work. Their lawyers were awarded $101.6 million in fees.
In 2024, a group of authors sued Anthropic, arguing that the company pirated hundreds of thousands of copyrighted books and used them without permission.

Fund managers now see gold (XAU) as the most undervalued **** et since March 2023, according to Bank of America's July survey. The reading arrives as the metal bounces 3.5% in two days from the $3,900-$4,000 support zone.
The last time the survey flipped this way, gold traded below $2,000 and then rallied to $5,598 in January. Whether history repeats may depend on the Federal Reserve and a possible US-Iran truce.
The July edition of the BofA Global Fund Manager Survey polled 181 institutional managers overseeing $484 billion in **** ets. A net 6% of them now call gold undervalued, the first negative overvaluation reading in more than three years.
The shift is dramatic. Through 2025 and early 2026, the same survey showed extreme readings, with a net 40% or more of managers calling gold overvalued near the January peak.
Sentiment has reset after a brutal repricing. Gold trades about 26% below its record, a drawdown that already pushed the metal into bear market territory earlier this month.

July 22 (Reuters) - Intel's results on Thursday will show whether the American chip icon has the numbers to back a Wall Street rally that has ‌sent its shares nearly three times higher this year, as its turnaround ‌push wins over investors and the AI buildout powers demand.
Analysts expect the company to report its fastest quarterly revenue growth in about six years thanks to a demand rebound for central processors that are increasingly used to help power AI agents. Investors are also eager for details on potential new customers for its contract manufacturing business, which has shown growing traction with deals including a ‌Tesla tie-up.
• Among the biggest questions for Intel is a potential deal to manufacture processors for Apple that U.S. President Donald Trump announced in April but neither company has confirmed.
• Winning a contract would boost both Intel's foundry business and its reputation as a contract manufacturer.
• Intel stock has declined more than 25% from its record close on June 22, amid a broader selloff in chip stocks. It remains 185% higher for the year.

Underperformance across most of the Magnificent Seven is giving ETFs built around smaller stocks a rare chance to beat the S&P 500 this year.

Five of the seven megacaps are trailing the index in 2026. The S&P 500 is up 10.9% year to date through July 9. Apple, with a 16.5% gain, and Alphabet, up 14.8%, are ahead of it, but Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta Platforms, and Tesla are all behind, and three of them are in the red for the year.
For most of the past few years, these stocks powered the bulk of the S&P 500's returns. They finished 2025 at roughly 35% of the S&P 500, and they sit at about a third of it today.
Their dominance is why plain exposure to the S&P 500, or to a broader fund like the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI), has been such a reliable bet. It also punished anyone who strayed from that setup, whether by layering on a mid- or small-cap fund like the iShares Core S&P Mid-Cap ETF (IJH) or the iShares Core S&P Small-Cap ETF (IJR), or by trimming the largest names with something like the Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF (RSP).

But this year, with the megacaps stalling, those same funds have found an opening. IJH is up 15.3% so far in 2026 and IJR is up 21.6%, both comfortably ahead of the index. RSP has outperformed too, though by a slimmer margin at 12.4%.

Taken together, the data shows smaller companies outrunning their larger counterparts as a group. That may come as a surprise given the magnitude of the AI boom—a boom the Magnificent Seven are spending heavily on and benefiting from.

The boom is real, but so are the questions around it. What kind of returns will the massive spending on AI generate? And how will AI reshape the long-term business models and competitive moats for the Mag-7?

The bigger winners at the stock level have been the semiconductors. There is a chip name inside the Magnificent Seven in Nvidia, but it has sharply lagged the rest of the industry this year. Broadcom, which entered 2026 in the top 10, has also trailed its semiconductor peers.

Micron Technology is the one that broke through, muscling into the top 10 on the back of a massive run tied to memory demand. Names like Intel, AMD, and Applied Materials have also soared.

But because these semis were a relatively small percentage of the S&P 500 entering the year, their surge has not lifted the index the way the Magnificent Seven's gains did in prior years.

Of course, none of this takes much away from the index itself. A double-digit first half is a strong showing in its own right, and it would take far more small-cap outperformance to undo years of large-cap dominance.

Whether that continues will likely come down to the same thing that opened the door in the first place, which is whether the Magnificent Seven keep lagging.

Artisan Partners, an investment management firm, issued its first-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Artisan Mid Cap Value Fund". A copy of this letter is available for download here. In Q1 2026, the portfolio underperformed the benchmark Russell Midcap Value Index as the market favored momentum-driven stocks over quality factors. Some holdings faced company-specific setbacks and negative sentiment. The Fund's Investor Class: ARTQX returned -4.93%, Advisor Class: APDQX declined by -4.90%, and Institutional Class: APHQX fell by -4.97%, all trailing the Index's 3.68% gain. The equity market in the quarter was mixed, with mid- and small-cap indices showing resilience despite lagging large-cap growth stocks. Volatility increased, initially fueled by interest in AI and private credit, but escalated after the outbreak of war in Iran, leading to rising oil prices. Sector performance varied, with energy leading the gains. The Fund continues to seek companies capable of value growth during market dislocations at attractive entry points. Also, review the Fund's top five holdings to see its best picks for 2026.
In its first-quarter 2026 investor letter, Artisan Mid Cap Value Fund highlighted Gartner, Inc. (NYSE:IT). Established in 1979, Gartner, Inc. (NYSE:IT) is a research and advisory company that provides business and technology insights to help businesses make informed decisions. On July 7, 2026, Gartner, Inc. (NYSE:IT) closed at $140.80 per share. One-month return of Gartner, Inc. (NYSE:IT) was -9.11%, and its shares lost 64.30% over the past 52 weeks. Gartner, Inc. (NYSE:IT) has a market capitalization of $9.43 billion.
Artisan Mid Cap Value Fund stated the following regarding Gartner, Inc. (NYSE:IT) in its Q1 2026 investor letter:
"Among the biggest decliners were ICON, Humana, Gartner, Inc. (NYSE:IT) and Pinterest, each of which dropped by 30% or more during the quarter. Gartner, a technology and business advisory firm, declined following signs of slowing growth and a weaker-than-expected outlook for 2026. Its core research business has been affected by several cyclical headwinds, including US government cost-cutting, uncertainty around trade policy and longer sales cycles. At the same time, some investors have become concerned about the potential long-term impact of artificial intelligence on Gartner's business model. While we take these risks seriously, we believe the company's current challenges are primarily cyclical, and any meaningful disruption from AI is likely to play out over a longer time horizon. Gartner continues to generate strong free cash flow, maintains a solid balance sheet and has been returning capital to shareholders, including approximately $2 billion of share repurchases in 2025. At current levels, we believe the stock appears attractively valued."

AI memory stocks have been the loudest trade of 2026, as the scramble for the chips behind every AI server pushed prices and profits to records. But the three names below share the same strange split. The business has never looked stronger, yet the money flows are quietly turning cautious.
Each pairs a blockbuster fundamental; a record profit, elite margins, or a monster rally with clear signs that big investors are stepping back. That gap between great numbers and nervous positioning is exactly what makes these 3 AI memory stocks worth watching through July 2026.
Samsung, one of the biggest AI memory stocks, sent a mixed signal on July 7. Its preliminary second-quarter guidance showed a record 89.4 trillion won ($58.4 billion) in operating profit, about 19 times higher than a year ago, as demand booms for the chips that power AI servers.
The good news is that business is booming. The bad news is that the stock fell anyway, dropping almost 7% to 296,000 won (about $194) even as profit jumped and nearly 10% at the low near 286,000 won ($187).
The reason is that big money is leaving. Foreign investors sold Samsung for six straight sessions, about 26 million shares, led by JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, and UBS.

Oil market watchers entered 2026 widely in agreement on an emerging multibillion-barrel glut that was sure to depress prices throughout the year. That is not what they received.
Instead, a series of unexpected geopolitical catalysts — above all, the war in Iran — pushed oil prices to levels not seen since 2022, creating the largest energy supply shock on record and forcing traders to set aside all expectations for the first half of the year.
Now, with Persian Gulf oil exports renormalizing as the war in Iran seemingly winds down, traders enter the second half of the year in an uneasy calm after the storm.
"Despite the daily noise, markets feel remarkably calm, but comfort is not the same as clarity," Macquarie commodities strategists, led by Peter Taylor, wrote to clients.
"H2-26 may prove calmer, but we have set the scene for surprises."

Cerebras Systems (NASDAQ:CBRS) is an AI chipmaker that sells Wafer-Scale Engine (WSE-3) processors. Its customers are OpenAI and Amazon Web Services, with potential for enterprise customers down the line.
Wall Street turned bullish on the company because it makes the industry's only commercially deployed wafer-scale AI chip. Bulls point to the company's massive $24.6 billion backlog, which is 48 times Cerebras Systems (NASDAQ:CBRS) FY25 revenue of $510 million. The backlog is supported by a $20 billion three-year deal with OpenAI announced in January 2026. In that deal, OpenAI will deploy approximately 750 megawatts of Cerebras compute capacity through 2028, with an option for an additional 1.25 gigawatts. The company also has a collaboration with AWS for disaggregated inference announced in March 2026.
Cerebras Systems (NASDAQ:CBRS) expects revenue growth with a 120% forward topline CAGR through fiscal 2028 from fiscal 2025. This is based entirely on the OpenAI and AWS commitments. Morgan Stanley recently started coverage of the stock with a $250 price target and called it one of the most differentiated AI infrastructure companies with a first-mover advantage against Nvidia. UBS came out with a $300 price target and a Buy rating. Needham also came out with $300 and a Buy rating.

The OBBBA introduces a new senior tax deduction of $6,000 for individuals aged 65 and older, and $12,000 for married couples if both individuals are at least 65 years old. That deduction can be stacked with the baseline standard deduction and existing over-65 bonus deductions, which means a senior married couple can shield up to $47,500 from federal income taxes.
However, this new deduction phases out at a rate of 6% for every $1,000 in Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) exceeding $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for married joint filers. It disappears at $150,000 and $250,000 for single filers and married joint filers, respectively.
The OBBBA also raised the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap from $10,000 to $40,000 through 2029. That increase should help retirees in high-tax states preserve much more cash.

Home to computer memory giants Samsung and SK Hynix, South Korea is the epicenter of money-making in the memory market. Problem is, gigantic profits earned on memory stocks this year have created a Korean stock market bubble, and it may have just popped.
