SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) has been building its AI business at warp speed. It turns out to be much more challenging to rapidly build reliable data centers than expected. Some of its facilities ran without backup power for months. That recently led the company to make some changes, including reshuffling its leadership team to ensure it can meet a looming deadline for a $920 million-a-month compute deal with Alphabet's (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google.
Here's a look at what went wrong and how **** eX is racing to fix the problem.

Bloomberg reported that Elon Musk said ****** e Exploration Technologies Corp. SpaceX (SPCX) has just delivered a fresh shock to Howmet Aerospace (HWM), putting one of the company's most closely watched growth opportunities under the spotlight. Shares of Howmet plunged 7.5% after CEO Elon Musk revealed that ******* eX plans to bring the casting of natural-gas turbine blades and vanes in-house, arguing that the move could accelerate the deployment of new turbines by as much as 18 months.
The announcement is particularly significant because Howmet has built a powerful position in the highly specialized turbine-blade market. The company reportedly holds more than 50% of the global market for industrial gas-turbine blades, while its gas-turbine revenue surged 38% in the latest quarter. The business has benefited from a surge in demand as artificial intelligence (AI) data centers require enormous amounts of electricity and utilities race to expand power-generation capacity.

Sands Capital, an investment management company, released its "Sands Capital Select Growth Fund" Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Select Growth Fund targets U.S. businesses driving significant structural change through disruptive innovation. The fund returned 23.2% in the quarter, outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth Index's 16.7%. U.S. large-cap growth equities rebounded sharply, driven by improving corporate fundamentals and renewed investor confidence in AI, despite geopolitical uncertainties. However, the market's gains were narrow, concentrated among AI beneficiaries. The portfolio's success stemmed from strength in AI infrastructure holdings, especially memory and storage, supported by better pricing and tightening supply. As AI development advances, continuous demand for compute capacity is expected, prompting investments in memory, CPUs, AI chips, and semiconductor manufacturing to address emerging bottlenecks essential for scaling AI. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Sands Capital Select Growth Fund highlighted Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR). Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR) is a US-based live entertainment and media company. On September 1, 2026, Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR) closed at $133.30 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $4.79 billion. Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR) posted a one-month return of -17.02%, while its shares gained 175.53% over the past 52 weeks.
Sands Capital Select Growth Fund stated the following regarding Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR) and ****** e Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) were added as more idiosyncratic growth opportunities. Sphere is creating a new category of immersive live entertainment, where we believe premium in-person experiences may become more valuable as digital content becomes increasingly abundant. Its Las Vegas venue combines live events, original content, and proprietary technology, creating the potential for high utilization and attractive venue-level economics. Over time, the investment case depends on Sphere's ability to scale beyond Las Vegas through additional venues, licensing, and high-margin content monetization."
Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR) is not on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 1 hedge fund portfolios held Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR) at the end of the second quarter, which was 2 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE:SPHR) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.

SpaceX (SPCX) has set a launch date for its plan to run artificial intelligence (AI) data centers in orbit, and I think it deserves more attention. CEO Elon Musk said the company's first AI satellites, powered by Nvidia (NVDA) chips, will start launching in the final quarter of 2027, and he believes that the network will reach real scale in 2028. Each satellite is built to work like a data center in ****** e. Musk described the design as simpler, cheaper, denser, and lighter than a normal server rack on the ground. As I previously covered, ****** eX eventually wants to fly as many as 1 million of these satellites. SpaceX is not the only company chasing orbital data centers. Startups like Starcloud are working toward the same goal. But ****** eX holds one advantage none of them can copy: It owns the rockets that rivals depend on to reach orbit.

SpaceX's first orbital data center is now due to launch in the fourth quarter of 2027 — about a year earlier than the company told investors when it went public.
The company had earlier noted plans to start deploying satellites "as early as 2028" in its initial May Prospectus. Then on the company's first earnings call on Aug. 4, Musk said launches would start next year. And on Aug. 24 he put a quarter on it: "SpaceX, in partnership with Nvidia, has designed a ******* e-optimized Vera Rubin NVL72 system for launch to orbit in Q4 next year, with significant scale in 2028," he wrote on X.

On August 14, 2026, Reuters reported that Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) disclosed that its stake in ******* e Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) was worth about $94 billion as of June 30, 2026, more than 100 times its original $900 million investment from 2015. It is making Alphabet by far ******* eX's largest single institutional shareholder following the company's June initial public offering.
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s ******* eX stake is now one of the most lucrative early-stage bets in tech history. A $900 million check from 2015 is worth roughly $94 billion, a gain that dwarfs Alphabet's next-largest disclosed rival holder, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, whose 154.1 million shares were worth $26.3 billion at the same date. That scale validates Alphabet's willingness to make patient, outsized bets outside its core search business, a track record that could matter the next time Alphabet weighs a similarly bold bet.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX)'s trading action suggests institutional demand is holding up despite the pullback. The stock got "a fresh jolt of buying" when fears about its first lockup expiry proved unfounded, Interactive Brokers strategist Steve Sosnick told Reuters. It remains one of the most actively traded names among the firm's customers. That kind of resilience right after a lockup, often a moment when early holders dump shares, signals ******* eX's shareholder base isn't rushing for the exits.
SpaceX's ownership base extends well beyond Alphabet, which reduces reliance on any single backer's continued conviction. Reuters' filing review found Fidelity, Saudi Arabia's PIF, Hancock Prospecting, Brookfield, and other major institutions all disclosing sizable stakes. That breadth shows professional investors broadly, not just Alphabet, are underwriting ******* eX's valuation.
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s headline number is already stale and shrinking. The stake would be worth about $77.9 billion at ******* eX's August 13 price, Reuters reported, roughly $16 billion below the June 30 figure used in the disclosure, since regulatory filings run on a 45-day lag. Now that ******* eX is public, Alphabet's stake must be marked to market. It means ******* eX's own stock swings could show up as real volatility in Alphabet's reported earnings going forward, a new risk that did not exist while the investment sat private.

One of the most closely watched investment themes in recent years has been the accelerating focus on artificial intelligence (AI), and social media giant Meta Platforms (META) is certainly leaning heavily into the trend. The company is reportedly preparing to take its AI ambitions a major step further, with plans to launch a consumer-facing AI agent in the coming weeks and roll out a new AI model as early as October, according to The Information, citing internal documents. The consumer AI agent, internally known as "Hatch," is built on Meta's OpenClaw AI agent and could debut as soon as late August or early September.
Unlike a conventional chatbot, Hatch is designed to interact directly with external websites and services, potentially allowing users to accomplish tasks across platforms such as DoorDash (DASH), Etsy (ETSY), Reddit (RDDT), Yelp (YELP), and Microsoft (MSFT) Outlook. And, Meta is exploring ways to bring third-party AI agents into WhatsApp. The company is reportedly preparing a feature that would allow users to connect with external AI agents, with limited testing potentially beginning as soon as this week. The potential business opportunity is also attracting attention.

Morgan Stanley is forecasting that Cisco (CSCO) could be entering a new period of lasting growth. According to **** yst Meta Marshall, the company appears to be entering a "more durable growth phase," as quoted by Seeking Alpha. The firm also has an "Overweight" rating on the tech giant with a price target of $135. Fueling that call are several key catalysts, including upgrades with networking equipment, demand for artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
One of the biggest catalysts for Morgan Stanley's bullishness is that Cisco's customers are still in the early stages of upgrading their networking equipment. As of now, Marshall says that only about 7% of Cisco's Catalyst 4K and 6K (switches that are used by companies to connect computers, phones, servers, and other devices together) have been updated so far. That means there are still plenty of other companies that will need to upgrade.

Navitas Semiconductor Corporation (NVTS) has entered the spotlight with a major acquisition. On Monday, Aug. 24, the power chip innovator signed a definitive agreement to acquire Claros, which develops vertical power delivery (VPD) and integrated voltage regulator (IVR) technology for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
The acquisition, which values Claros at $232.8 million, strengthens Navitas' position by adding a missing link between power generation and the processor. The company already leads with next-generation GaNFast gallium nitride (GaN) and GeneSiC silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors, and Claros would deliver power directly to the chip, completing Navitas' "grid to xPU" portfolio for AI data center infrastructure.
