Marlon Wayans is speaking out again about parenting. During a new interview, the actor, comedian, and father of three condemned spanking children as a form of discipline, saying doing so will only lead to resentment when they're older.

At the All-Star Break's conclusion, I wrote on expectations, and their virtue as an exercise with this franchise towards a more hopeful future near and far. These Seattle Mariners, 3.0 games back of the AL West and the third Wild Card spot alike, have earned little and less belief. They've played poorly, wasted chances, and frittered opportunities to cleanse their palates. Much has rightly been made of the necessity for the core players to perform at or near the standards they've set for several years. But Seattle is giving up massive production on the fringes, and they've forced themselves into an uncomfortable, desperate position.
It is time for them to call up Michael Arroyo.
Seattle needs right-handed hitting, and with J.P. Crawford sidelined at least for several weeks, there is no easy solution at third base. Brendan Donovan returns on Tuesday to rotate around the field, but it's hard to look at the lineup as constructed and see anywhere for him to play more frequently than the hot corner. Arroyo has played some third base, but it's realistically not where he could be thrown in, although his defense is less egregious and more limited if asked to play second base or corner outfield. But they need his bat, because the Mariners need to take some risks, and rotating Weston Wilson, Victor Robles, Rob Refsnyder, Leo Rivas, and Mitch Garver through to take flaccid swing after flaccid swing is a Wile. E. Coyote kind of road that the Mariners have been slamming into the wall of all summer. The Rainiers' roster is stocked with similar players who've struggled to set themselves apart this year and over many years, from Connor Joe to Patrick Wisdom to Stuart Fairchild, along with injured options like Ryan Bliss and Brennen Davis. With Luke Raley seemingly ailing, the M's have to be more aggressive to rev up their offense before it's too late.

Earlier this week, we asked you a question about Trea Turner and changing positions. Many of you felt it was fait accompli.
Turner's defense has been a hot topic for some time now, but it seems that after the All-Star break, it has gotten louder. He has not helped things by playing a poor defense in that time, so naturally we wonder if he will be somewhere else on the field in 2027.
Making such a move in-season would probably never happen unless they make some unforeseen trade that no one sees coming, so now we can really only talk about what happens next season. I had written about his going to center field next season, to which many people thought left field would make more sense. I can see that, but I'd really rather see him using his speed to cover more ground in center. Either way, he should not be the shortstop next year.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — CBS NFL ****** yst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had an open container of alcohol in his vehicle when he was stopped by police last week and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said.
According to one of three citations released by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the "open bottle of an alcoholic beverage" was discovered in the passenger's side of Romo's black Jeep during an inventory before it was towed.
Another citation said police stopped Romo on Interstate 43 on July 23 after he was seen passing cars in a gore area, which separates interstate traffic from cars entering from an on-ramp. Police said Romo questioned what a gore area was during the stop.
Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, booked and released. Court records show Romo was later cited for refusing "to take test for intoxication after arrest." He has a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 21.
According to body camera footage released earlier this week, Romo told deputies he had been coming from a golf course and was on his way "to visit grandma and grandpa" when he was stopped.

Rhamondre Stevenson is positioned to produce meaningfully for the New England Patriots in 2026, but is he a player that will give fantasy football team managers more than they are anticipating next season?
According to NFL.com's Matt Okada, Stevenson is an undervalued player in the NFL for fantasy football next season, given his status as RB31 with an average draft position in round 10.
"Henderson should rebound from a poor playoff run, but I don't expect him to run away with New England's RB1 role," Okada said. "Stevenson should still see 200 touches, crack 1,000 yards and threaten for double-digit touchdowns. I see Stevenson as a David Montgomery-type from early in Jahmyr Gibbs' career: a solid RB2 with week-to-week RB1 upside, which is far more valuable than his draft costs suggests."
Stevenson recorded 603 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns in 2025. He did miss three games last season, which played a role in his numbers being down on the year. What's the definition of "not going well?" How about playing a series against a team that came in on a 12-game losing streak, and getting swept? The series against the Marlins showed that it's not just one thing plaguing the Phillies at the moment, it's everything. Each loss came in a different fashion, with the one common thread being poor defense.
Next, the Phillies will travel to Baltimore to take on an Orioles team that theoretically should provide some opportunities for victories. However, considering how poorly the team has played since the All-Star Game, any future opponents could say the same thing.

But it's not going to get him fired." A second characterized the arrest as a "lapse in judgment" rather than anything approaching a fireable offense, noting Romo had reached out to his bosses almost the moment it happened.

Liverpool have won two pre-season games, 1-0 against Wrexham and 4-2 against Sunderland, but the more important development may be cultural rather than cosmetic. Dominik Szoboszlai has said plainly what many around Anfield wanted to hear, that intensity is back under Andoni Iraola.
The Hungarian midfielder did not dress it up. Speaking during Liverpool's tour of the United States, he said: "He is very good. The intensity we need is here now, what we have been missing is back. From the coach side and the players, now we have to put this together."
That is a significant line. It tells you what Iraola has prioritised from day one, and it also tells you what the squad felt had slipped. Liverpool have had enough neat possession, enough sterile control and enough softness over the past year. The issue was never effort in the abstract. The Cleveland Browns made it through Day 2 of training camp on Thursday under the watchful eye of visiting Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
That led to far too many breathless questions from the media to head coach Todd Monken about what Sanders the elder thought about various things related to the Browns.
Fortunately, that did not distract from the important work at hand for Monken, which includes:
Figuring out who the starting quarterback will be from the equally poor choices of Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders. (Best get comfy, Browns fans, because Monken is in no hurry.)
Determining which pieces of the rebuilt offensive line fit best, with plenty of combinations on the field in the early part of camp.

The Las Vegas Raiders look to be an improved team heading into this season, and the way in which the team is approaching their preparation for the upcoming slate ahead has second year back Ashton Jeanty encouraged by what he's seen so far.
"There's different energy and urgency in the building, and I truly believe that it starts from the top down," said Jeanty. "So, I love what I'm seeing so far from everybody and it's only gonna continue to grow and get better."
The Raiders earned a 3-14 record in Jeanty's rookie season in 2025. He and former QB Geno Smith struggled behind a poorly coached patchwork offensive line. It's time for the annual post to highlight how the Mountain West Conference compares to the American Athletic Conference in a variety of important categories. Since this yearly post began, the American has had the advantage overall, although the MW narrowed the gap in 2024. Which one was the top Group of 5 conference in 2024? Read below to find out.
The Mountain West and American don't have many opportunities to play each other from season to season, and it's sad that that hasn't changed over the years. In 2024, the conferences played one another four times, with two of those being the CIC Trophy games, Air Force battling Army and Navy. The other two were Boise State opening against South Florida and Colorado State taking on Texas-San Antonio. Last season, all of those games ended in losses for the Mountain West teams, which is extremely disappointing. They have now lost head-to-head matchups to the American two seasons in a row.
The American's top tier enjoyed a successful season and has been seen as a top-heavy conference for years, with this year being no different. Memphis led the way with a 12-2 record (good for a winning percentage of .857). Behind them was Navy at 11-2 (.846), and Tulane at 11-3 (.786). The three-team average ends up being a .829 score for the American. On the other side of things, UNLV was the top Mountain West team with a 10-4 record (.714 winning percentage). Then, New Mexico, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Hawaii all finished with identical 9-4 records (.692). Taking the three-team average, and it comes out to a .699 winning percentage, which is a drop from 2025. Unfortunately for the Mountain West, even a good season and a top-heavy bunch of teams, the conference couldn't measure up to the American, which takes this one once again.
