DETROIT — The Pistons did not have the best outing during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. They finished the tournament as one of five teams that finished with fewer than two wins, going 1-4.
Despite their struggles as a team, the Pistons' performance during the league's annual mid-July showcase was still a success, as a handful of players effectively showcased the hard work they have put in over the offseason.
At the top of the list was second-year guard Chaz Lanier. The former second-round pick from Tennessee established himself as one of the best players in Las Vegas, and if not for the Pistons' subpar record, Lanier would have left with some hardware.
"I feel like I went out there and was aggressive, displaying all of the things that I've really been working on since the season ended in May," Lanier told The Detroit News. "But since Summer League ended, I've continued to stay in the gym and hungry. My goal is to continue getting better."
For a team that spent the entire summer improving its 3-point shooting and floor ******* ing, Lanier proved he could provide another solution to what the Pistons need.
