The Jacksonville Jaguars are hosting a month-long celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month throughout September, launching community outreach programs and student-athlete recognition under the banner "Somos DUUUVAL."
The initiative addresses the growth of the Hispanic and Latino community in Northeast Florida through youth sports, literacy outreach, and leadership initiatives.
Adriel Rocha, the Jaguars vice president of community impact and youth development, emphasized the initiative's focus on community service and culture. "Hispanic Heritage Month is a reminder of the rich culture, contributions and leadership of the Hispanic community and through Somos DUUUVAL, the Jaguars strive to celebrate and strengthen that spirit in Jacksonville," Rocha said. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has made another major real estate move, adding a historic lakefront estate in his home state of Ohio to the extensive collection of properties owned by him and his wife, Taylor Swift.
Kelce purchased the $5.35 million property in Bratenahl, a village just outside Cleveland, in March, according to The Wall Street Journal. The move brings the Cleveland Heights native back to Northeast Ohio while giving the couple another large private residence.
The purchase follows years of real estate moves for both Kelce and Swift. Kelce previously bought homes in two Kansas City-area neighborhoods, while Swift has ******* embled a portfolio spanning Nashville, New York City, Rhode Island and California.
Kelce's latest acquisition is known as Moyenage, a more than 21,000-square-foot Elizabethan Tudor-style mansion overlooking Lake Erie.

On August 6, PENN Entertainment (NASDAQ:PENN) reported second-quarter results that flipped from a year-ago loss into a profit. Net income came in at $32.6 million, compared with a loss of $18.3 million in the same quarter of 2025. Revenue rose to $1.86 billion from $1.77 billion, and Adjusted EBITDA climbed to $312.6 million from $236.1 million. Diluted earnings per share landed at $0.24, versus a loss per share of $0.12 a year earlier. For a company whose digital business has weighed on results for years, that combination stands out.
The Retail segment, which covers PENN's casino properties across the Northeast, South, West and Midwest, generated $1.5 billion in revenue and $517.2 million in Segment Adjusted EBITDAR, a margin of 34.4%. Nine properties posted their best second quarter ever for both revenue and Adjusted EBITDAR, a sign the strength wasn't confined to one or two markets. June brought two new additions to the portfolio: a hotel tower at Hollywood Columbus and the new Hollywood Casino Aurora, both of which the company said are already drawing strong visitation.
The balance sheet also moved in the right direction. Total liquidity stood at $1.9 billion as of June 30, including $887.2 million in cash. Traditional net debt fell to $1,927.5 million from $2,217.5 million at the end of 2025, pulling traditional net leverage down to 2.9 times from 4.5 times over that span. Capital expenditures dropped to $97.5 million in the quarter from $159.4 million a year earlier. On May 15, PENN repaid the remaining $106.7 million balance of its 2.75% convertible notes, wiping out roughly 4.6 million potentially dilutive shares in the process.
The Interactive segment still lost money, an Adjusted EBITDA loss of $9.5 million, though that's a sharp improvement from the $62.0 million loss posted in the second quarter of 2025. Revenue for the segment reached $349.4 million, but $185.5 million of that figure came from a tax gross-up rather than actual wagering activity, a distinction that matters when sizing up the segment's real growth. PENN also leaned on refinancing to manage its debt load rather than paying it down outright: on April 16, it extended its $1.0 billion revolving credit facility and $446.9 million term loan A to 2031, and on May 28, it repriced and extended its term loan B facility to 2033.
Total traditional debt still sat at $2,814.7 million at quarter's end. Other expenses jumped to $43.0 million for the first six months of 2026 from just $2.2 million a year earlier, driven by transaction costs, severance tied to a corporate reorganization, and settlement costs connected to the company's cooperation agreement with HG Vora Capital Management. Cash rent payments to REIT landlords also remained a heavy recurring cost, $247.1 million for the quarter alone.

The PSC team hosted Northeast Community College following the ribbon cutting of its new PSC Soccer Complex on a 6.7-acre site at the corner of Underwood and Tippin avenues.
The more than $5.7 million lighted complex includes a natural turf NCAA regulation-sized soccer field, bleacher seating for 280 fans, a concession stand and bathrooms.
Phase 2 of the project, the construction of dressing rooms and a press box, will begin in the fall and cost $2.1 million.

Florida-headquartered ONE Nuclear Energy said the company has executed a binding letter of intent (LOI) that would provide site control for development of Project Cayman, a 2.88-GW gas-fired power plant and 700-MW/2.88 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) sited alongside a data center complex.The LOI was signed with what One Nuclear in an August 31 news release called a "prominent Louisiana landowner group." The company said the strategy aligns with Louisiana utility Entergy's continuing buildout of regional electricity transmission infrastructure."Project Cayman, with its 2.88-GW power capacity, demonstrates that One Nuclear is committed to supporting the future economic development of one of Louisiana's most important industrial regions," said Richard Taylor, CEO of One Nuclear. Project Cayman is located near the RiverPlex MegaPark, a 17,000-acre heavy industrial site on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. Three attacks involving an animal that "displayed unusually aggressive behavior toward people," which can be ******* ociated with rabies, have been reported in New Hampshire, according to authorities. However, officials have yet to determine exactly what type of animal is ambushing the unsuspecting humans.
From Aug. 30-31, police received three reports of animal attacks in the same area of Lebanon, about 122 miles northwest of Boston, according to news releases from the Lebanon Police Department. The attacks seem to be unprovoked, and police believe the same animal is responsible.
Video shows the moment one person was attacked by the unknown animal. The wild animal is shown running from what appears to be a wooded area as the victim walks around a moving truck. The animal then goes after the person's legs in an unprovoked attack. It attacks the victim multiple times. The victim is seen flinging the animal away from them after it attacks their legs again, and then the animal returns to the wooded area.
The animal responsible for the attacks has not been identified, but witnesses say they believe the animal is either a gray fox or a fisher, a nocturnal mammal in the weasel family, according to Defenders of Wildlife. It is an elusive animal that lives in forests throughout the Northeast, the Pacific Northwest and the Great Lakes states.

Cox Media Group (CMG) Jacksonville and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday announced a new local broadcast partnership, naming Action Sports Jax TV the team's official broadcast partner in Northeast Florida beginning this season (2026-27).
The addition builds on Action Sports Jax TV's fast-growing sports lineup. The Los Angeles Lakers are now undoubtedly Luka Doncic's team, even though he has been with them for just over 18 months. LeBron James is now calling the Northeast home as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, and Doncic has already started to flex his leadership muscles.
He recently held a minicamp for his teammates in his native Slovenia, and in addition to basketball activities, everyone got to take part in some golf and other fun excursions. Emmanuel Christian volleyball players get together for an overnight outing to create memories while occasionally missing out on some sleep in the process.
That sleepiness has not been enough to keep down the play of Macey Hudson.
Hudson is a junior volleyball player at Emmanuel Christian. In a recent match against Northeastern on Aug. 22, she had 27 kills and 25 digs in a four-set victory for the Lions.
For her efforts, Hudson was named the Dayton Daily News Athlete of the Week, presented by Orthopaedic Institute of Dayton, for Aug. 17-23, earning the honor through reader voting at DaytonDailyNews.com.
"I have had people from our school get nominated and I thought it was really cool, and to have myself get nominated for it was just really an honor," Hudson said.

The UCLA Bruins and the USC Trojans play in the same city, they play in the same conference but the comparisons just about end there for the two Big Ten schools as they enter the 2026 season.

Maryland-based investment firm Hull Street Energy announced it has completed its acquisition of two Midwestern power plants that provide electricity in the PJM Interconnection.The company on August 26 said the facilities, which together are included in Hull Street's "GridFlex Portfolio," are the 677-ME gas-fired Lee County Generating Station in Illinois, and the 586-MW dual-fuel Tait Electric Generating Station in Ohio. Every Cleveland Browns fan can remember where they were when the Houston Texans announced that they had signed running back Nick Chubb. It was a sad day in Northeast Ohio.
On Friday, Chubb announced his retirement from the NFL on an Instagram post. Chubb began the 2025 season as Houston's lead running back, but his snaps became more limited as the season rolled along, and eventually fourth-round rookie Woody Marks surpassed him. Chubb concluded the season with just nine starts and 326 offensive snaps, or 32% of all offensive plays.

RABUN GAP, Ga. — In a battle of two nationally ranked teams, Venice defeated Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, 42-40 in overtime on the final play of the game to begin the 2026 season 1-0.
While the defenses were quiet in the second half, Venice's unit made the winning play, resulting in a field storming of Indians players and coaches after the near 10-hour trip to the Northeast Georgia Mountains.
Needing a 2-point conversion to stay alive, Rabun Gap quarterback Grayson Clary rolled to his right and fired a pass to the end zone for receiver Alanson Simmons, a tandem that connected for a touchdown earlier in the fourth quarter. Clary's pass fell incomplete as Venice's Micah Hayes arose from the trio of Indian defenders to knock the ball away.
Perhaps the most crucial decision of the night came from Venice head football coach John Peacock. After taking a 40-34 lead on the first play of overtime behind Dorien Jones' fifth touchdown of the night, Peacock elected to go for two, rather than kick the point after.

CLEVELAND — Guardians manager Stephen Vogt is using Major League Baseball's Players' Weekend to spread awareness for two charities that are near and dear to his family's heart.
MLB's Players' Weekend will run Aug. 21-23. During these three days, players, coaches and managers are able to utilize custom gear (bats, gloves, cleats, catcher's equipment and more) along with individualized name plates on the backs of jerseys. The Guardians will be in Colorado to play the Rockies during this stretch.
Those partaking in Players' Weekend also have the option of auctioning off custom gear to benefit charities.
Vogt will be using that time to wear custom shoes in an effort to bring awareness to the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio.
"It's a cool opportunity just to spotlight two unbelievable organizations that help a lot of people in different ways," Vogt said.

When Saint Anselm College athletics move to NCAA Division III in the 2027-28 school year, the men's and women's hockey and golf programs will become members of the Little East Conference.
Saint Anselm will begin its transition to Division III from Division II starting in 2027-28. Its athletics programs will be eligible to compete for D-III championships starting in 2029-30 after completing the NCAA's reclassification process.
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will be the Hawks' primary conference starting in the 2027-28 school year.
The men's and women's golf teams and men's hockey teams will play their final seasons in the Division II Northeast-10 Conference this season. The women's hockey team will compete this winter in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA), of which it is a founding member.
"Saint Anselm has a strong tradition of success across its athletic programs, and we're confident the Hawks will bring a high level of competition to the LEC in each of these four sports," LEC Commissioner Albert D. Bean, Jr. said in a statement.

Hunter Tipton spoke to the media on Saturday after practice, and he discussed multiple topics from his new Memphis tattoo to the ongoing quarterback competition.
Tipton joined the Tigers in the offseason after spending the 2025 season at Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders were his fourth school in four years after playing at two JUCOs before making the jump to the Division I level.
Tipton started his career at Tyler Junior College, where he appeared in only three games, before he transferred to Northeast Oklahoma A&M. After two years at the JUCO level, Tipton transferred to Louisiana Tech, where he played in six games and finished with 23 yards on five receptions.
He entered the transfer portal again and landed at Middle Tennessee and had a breakout season. The tight end finished the season with 411yards and two touchdowns on 39 receptions.

DAKAR, Aug 14 (Reuters) - The Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo has spread to a sixth province, Bas-Uele, located in the northeast of the country, the communications ministry said on Friday, officially confirming a case discovered earlier.
Health authorities have identified a person who has died from Ebola in the provincial capital Buta, an official from the National Institute for Biomedical Research told Reuters on Thursday.
Bas-Uele wasn't previously affected by the virus. The new case raised fears that people who have been in contact with the patient may have also been infected.
Delayed detection, conflict and strained health services have helped the virus spread more rapidly than in previous outbreaks.
The latest report, published on the ministry's X account, said that the number of confirmed Ebola cases in Congo has increased to 4,665, including 2,184 deaths.
