Mizzou volleyball found its rhythm early and never let it go Saturday, sweeping Wichita State 25-19, 25-13, 25-18 to close out another dominant performance at the Mizzou Tournament.
The Tigers controlled the match with a balanced offensive attack and stingy defense, finishing with a .347 hitting percentage while holding Wichita State to .177. Mizzou used contributions throughout its lineup, with Grace O'Reilly, Kimani Johnson and the Tigers' middle blockers helping fuel the three-set victory.
"Always great to play at Hearnes," Mizzou coach Dawn Sullivan said. "I thought it was a team kind of game tonight, and it was really fun to, one, just kind of see them find their rhythm out there."
Johnson set the tone in the opening set, recording five kills on six attempts as Mizzou pulled away for a 25-19 win. After Wichita State cut the Tigers' lead to 12-11, Mizzou responded with a block from Ceylin Kuyan and Lauren Larkin before gradually rebuilding its advantage.
Paige Felder sealed the first set with a kill, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 match lead.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — It was that deep for Missouri football.
Before Friday night's Border War matchup, the second in the revived rivalry between two of college football's fiercest foes, Kansas posted a video to its social media accounts that made blunt, hardly subtle references to the rivalry's roots and the Civil War.
There were snippets of various Civil War-era figures, including John Brown and William Quantrill. Included in the 90-second clip narrated by former KU nose tackle Gilbert Brown, was the phrase "there's right and wrong, there's Kansas and Missouri."
It went viral. The Jayhawks played it again on the videoboard shortly before kickoff at David Booth Family Memorial Stadium.
That, in no uncertain terms, rubbed Mizzou and its head coach the wrong way.

No. 23-ranked Missouri football beat Kansas 38-21 on Friday night in its fiercest rival's home stadium, and new starting quarterback Austin Simmons was one of the standout players on the field in his first Power-conference test as the Tigers' field general.
Mizzou (2-0) now has back-to-back Border War wins. It looks a lot like Eli Drinkwitz's offense has found a QB who can elevate the passing game, top.

Simmons was 19-of-29 passing (65.5%) for 292 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Mizzou volleyball started slowly but found its rhythm when it mattered most Thursday night, rallying past Arkansas State 15-25, 25-21, 25-23, 26-24 at the Hearnes Center.
The Tigers dropped the opening set after hitting -.034, but coach Dawn Sullivan said her team cleaned things up and came together as the match progressed.
"I thought these girls battled and came together," Sullivan said. "A lot of contributors out on the court. We didn't start the cleanest, is what I'll say. But then we were able to clean it up."
Grace O'Reilly and Sierra Dudley provided a major spark for Mizzou in the new 6-2 system. O'Reilly finished with a team-high 13 kills, while Dudley added four kills and 36 ***** ists after entering during the opening set and starting the final three.
The connection between the two was evident throughout the night, especially as O'Reilly found her offensive rhythm.

Shakespeare's Pizza and several other Columbia-area favorites are joining the food lineup at Memorial Stadium as Mizzou Athletics rolls out new concessions and hospitality offerings for football fans this season.
The additions come through a partnership involving Sodexo Live!, Mizzou Athletics and Columbia-based Upper Crust Food Service, according to a community announcement. Fans attending games will see new local vendors, updated menu items and expanded hospitality options throughout the stadium.
For the first time, Shakespeare's Pizza will be available inside Memorial Stadium, bringing one of Columbia's best-known food brands into the game-day experience.
"As we looked at the new hospitality offerings we wanted to bring to fans this season, we wanted to focus on food that feels like home while giving fans new reasons to explore and enjoy the game-day experience," Brian Gaskill, regional vice president of Sodexo Live!, said in the announcement. "Shakespeare's is a huge part of Columbia, and we know how excited fans will be to see it in the stadium. We're bringing a strong lineup of local favorites, Missouri flavors and some fun new takes on game-day classics straight to fans."
The partnership also brings several other local businesses into the stadium, including Champ's Chicken, Buck's Ice Cream and Mya's Gourmet Popcorn.

The Missouri football uniforms will have a new look in 2026.
Mizzou athletics announced in a news release Friday that it has secured a jersey patch sponsorship deal for its football and Olympic sports teams, with the Ambetter Health logo to appear on uniforms in 2026-27 seasons.
Ambetter Health is a health insurance company owned by Centene, which is headquartered in Clayton, Missouri.
According to a photo from the Mizzou website, the patch will appear between the neckline and the shoulder on the right side of Mizzou's uniforms. It appears to be in white script for at least the Tigers' black jerseys.
The NCAA permitted schools to begin securing jersey patch sponsors in the 2026-27 athletics season.

They'll spot a football for a counting game in Columbia in less than 10 days.Missouri football wrapped up its fall camp work this past weekend, and the Tigers are now moving on to gameweek preparations ahead of their season-opening matchup against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday, Sept. 3, on Faurot Field.
The Tigers' two-deep is more or less set at this point. The last remaining handful of position competitions have been ironed out, and we have a good idea of which players will play the most snaps in 2026.

While Ahmad Hardy's availability was the story of the day, with the star running back now expected to miss at least Missouri football's season-opening game, Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz said the team is close to returning four players who had fall camp injury concerns.
Drinkwitz, during his Saturday night press conference that followed the team's second scrimmage of the preseason, offered updates on defensive tackle Donta Simpson Jr., tight end Gavin Hoffman, freshman wide receiver Jabari Brady and offensive lineman Braylon Ellison.
All four players appear to either be back in practice or close to a return.

Mizzou's 2026 fall camp has wrapped up. The team finished camp with a scrimmage under the lights at Faurot. Afterwards, head coach Eli Drinkwitz, wide receiver Donovan Olugbode and cornerback Chris Graves Jr. addressed the media.
The players brought different perspectives to the table, Olugbode being a young returner and Graves being a veteran transfer. Regardless of where both of them are in their playing careers, they improved through the fall.
Olugbode pointed to diversifying his skill set as a receiver as an emphasis coming into camp and feels like he achieved this goal.
"My contested catching, my run after the catch ability, getting more explosive after the catch," Olugbode listed as areas of improvement.
Graves' experience showed in his response. He was primarily focused on enhancing areas that he was already great in and gaining a better connection with the secondary.

Mizzou has earned another national top-25 preseason ranking.
CBS Sports published its preseason rankings on Wednesday, which ordered all 138 FBS programs ahead of the upcoming college football season. Missouri football checked in as the No. 23 team in the outlet's rankings ahead of the 2026 campaign.
The Tigers also were ranked in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, where head coach Eli Drinkwitz's team was the last ranked team in the poll at No. 25.
Mizzou, which finished the 2025 campaign ranked No. 34 in CBS Sports' board, will face six other top-25 teams on the outlet's big board, including five opponents who are ranked among the nation's top 12.
Missouri faces No. 4 Texas, No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 12 Ole Miss and No. 22 Florida this season.

You won't need a time machine and Siegfried and Roy tickets to see Tigers in Las Vegas this year.
Missouri basketball has announced that it will play an exhibition game against UNLV on Thursday, Oct. 29, in Sin City, adding a preseason road trip to precede a nonconference schedule already packed with road and neutral site matchups.
The exhibition likely will be Missouri's final tune-up game before the official beginning of the 2026-27 season, which can begin Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Mizzou has not officially announced who it will face to open its new campaign this year, although reports have suggested the Tigers will play Cleveland State — head coach Dennis Gates' former team — at Mizzou Arena on opening day.
The first officially announced game on MU's schedule is Nov. 6 against Saint Louis at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, the first of five expected neutral-site nonconference games this coming season.

A group of former Tigers have wrapped up their summer in Sin City.
Five players who finished their college careers with Missouri basketball saw playing time in the NBA Summer League, which ran July 9-19 in Las Vegas. The event is an opportunity for players to compete for free agent deals for the upcoming season.
Mark Mitchell played for the Denver Nuggets after signing an Exhibit 10 deal, Tamar Bates is on a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz, Sean East II was with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jevon Porter featured for the Memphis Grizzlies and Caleb Grill played for the Boston Celtics.
Ex-Tigers Trevon Brazile and John Tonje, who each spent a season in Columbia in their college careers, played for the Nuggets and Celtics, respectively.
Former Mizzou center Shawn Phillips Jr. initially signed a Summer League contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, but he did not appear in any games after he was named in an eligibility injunction filed in Ohio against the NCAA. Porter is part of a similar lawsuit in California.

Jacob Crews is the latest Missouri basketball alum to earn a professional opportunity this summer, as the wing signed to play for Donar Groningen in the Netherlands on Tuesday, according to a news release from the team.
Two Tigers from the 2025-26 team are now set to play overseas, as guard Jayden Stone signed a deal with the Sydney Kings earlier this summer.
Mizzou had multiple players participating in the NBA Summer League in July. Mark Mitchell signed an Exhibit-10 deal with the Denver Nuggets, Tamar Bates signed a two-way deal with the Utah Jazz and Caleb Grill (Celtics), Sean East II (Cavaliers) and Jevon Porter (Grizzlies) all appeared in Summer League games.
Former MU center Shawn Phillips Jr. briefly had a Summer League deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, but, like Porter, he is involved in litigation against the NCAA's age-based eligibility rule change and appears to be seeking an avenue back into college athletics.
Crews spent six seasons in college, including the past two years at Mizzou. He appeared in 66 total games for the Tigers, averaging 8.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and a 43.5% mark from 3-point range last season.

After nine years, the University of Louisiana-Lafayette's Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and athletic director Bryan Maggard is leaving the university.
Maggard served as the athletic director since 2017 and is expected to join the staff at the University of Missouri. His anticipated move to Missouri marks a return to a program where he spent 21 years as the Tigers' executive ***** ociate athletic director.
"Ragin' Cajuns Athletics, the University, and Lafayette, Louisiana will forever hold a special place in Kerry and my hearts," Maggard said in a press release. "We always knew it would take something extremely special for us to leave this place we called home for nearly a decade. With the birth of our granddaughter and a tremendous opportunity provided by Mizzou, we simply could not pass up the chance to return close to family."
Throughout his tenure in Lafayette, Ragin' Cajuns athletics has seen success throughout major changes in collegiate athletics. From handling the growing transfer portal to the introduction of NIL's, UL has carved out a ***** e for itself as a mid-major powerhouse across Division I sports.
Under Maggard, the Cajuns won Sun Belt Conference championships in baseball, football and softball. In the 2021-22 school year, UL was the only university in Louisiana to win all three plus a bowl game. UL football has been to eight consecutive bowl games during Maggard's tenture.

Leading the charge for the incoming transfers is Florida Gulf Coast University shortstop Wilfred Gonzalez, who officially became Mizzou's first portal commitment on Wednesday, June 3. The Miami, Fla., Gonzalez brings an elite bat to the Tigers' lineup after putting together a stellar season for the Eagles.
He managed to bat an impressive .323 while racking up 74 hits, 11 doubles, 2 home runs and 30 RBIs. As an incoming senior, Gonzalez provides Mizzou with a a heavy approach that will hopefully translate well against elite SEC arms.

Mizzou Football has made another addition to their 2027 recruiting class. The latest member is Charles “Tre” Britton III — a three-star wide receiver from Belleville, Michigan.
The announcement was made on the CBS Sports’ College Football YouTube page:
Britton, who holds plenty of power conference offers, visited Mizzou on June 5th but chose the Tigers over the in-state Michigan Wolverines following his visit to Ann Arbor on June 19th. Miami (FL) was also in Britton’s top three schools.
He becomes the 19th overall addition to Mizzou’s 2027 recruiting class, and the second among the wide receiver position — joining Charles Harris Jr.
Per his recruiting page on Rivals/On3 — Britton is compared to Minnesota Vikings WR Jalen Nailor.

Former Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel was charged Friday in Camden County with a class B misdemeanor for a July 7, 2025, arrest. Recent court documents show Pinkel flagged down the state trooper for ****** istance while outside of a tire shop in Lake Ozark with a blown tire on his car.
According to a probable cause statement filed in court and reviewed by the Tribune, the officer noticed Pinkel waving at him at approximately 11:30 p.m. in a Big O Tires parking lot on Bagnell Dam Blvd.
The trooper noted in the probable cause statement that the back right tire on the SUV had blown and had been driven on the rim "for a significant distance based on the damage."After asking Pinkel to explain how he had blown the tire, the officer noted a "strong odor of an intoxicating beverage emitting from (Pinkel's) breath and person" and that his speech was slurred and he was swaying while he spoke.
Pinkel initially told the officer that he had "just a very small drink" and had stopped drinking three hours before blowing the tire. He later told the trooper he had "like two drinks" and had his last drink two hours ago.
The trooper asked Pinkel to perform multiple field sobriety tests, and the former Mizzou coach, per the probable cause statement, was unable to recite the alphabet beginning at the letter E and stopping at the letter R and also was unable to count backwards from the numbers 78 to 62. The trooper noted "lack of smooth pursuit" when he asked Pinkel to follow his finger with his eyes.

Larissa Anderson's newest portal addition is Jana Want, a shortstop from Middle Tennessee State. Want spent two years with the Blue Raiders, playing in 104 games and ending her time with a .325 batting average. She tacked on a total of 15 home runs and 64 RBI. In the field she recorded a .918 fielding percentage, including a career-best of .933 as a sophomore.
She is originally from Ontario, Canada and played at Saltfleet District High School.
As a freshman, Want was voted the Conference USA Freshman of the Year and a spot on the CUSA First Team All-Conference after averaging .325 at the plate with 10 home runs and 37 RBI. As a sophomore in 2026, she batted over .300 once again and led the team with 27 RBI to earn a spot on the CUSA Second Team All-Conference. Her best offensive game last season came when she recorded three hits including two home runs and four RBI against Louisiana Tech.
Want will add some much-needed offensive pop to the Mizzou infield that struggled to come up with hits in the key moments last year. She will likely fight for a starting spot alongside fellow rising junior Madison Uptegrove, who has spent the last two seasons as the primary shortstop for the Tigers. Last season, Uptegrove ended the year with a .258 batting average with three home runs and 19 RBI. However, there is a definite possibility one of the players may be moved to second or another position.
We will have a better idea of LA's vision for Want on the field when fall ball rolls around in a couple of months. Either way, she will likely be a big-time addition who can provide a jolt of offense and help take Mizzou back to the NCAA Tournament.

The Brendan Sorsby saga came to a thrilling and stupid conclusion this week when Sorsby did what he always should have done – remove himself from the line of fire and seek an NFL paycheck.
That doesn't, however, mean the Texas Tech vs. Everyone saga is nearly at its conclusion. There's still talk of sanctioning the school for the Big 12's financial and legal troubles, and you best believe the SEC and Big 10 will be using this as fuel if they should ever want to break away from the wild, wild west of non-Power-Two football.

Knoxville (Tenn.) Knoxville Catholic cornerback Braylen Gibbs flipped his commitment from Vanderbilt to Alabama on Friday. The four-star 2028 prospect had been pledged to the Commodores since December.
Gibbs also holds offers from Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon and Tennessee. He has taken unofficial visits to the Crimson Tide, Bulldogs and Rebels so far in his recruitment.

“He is a freak athlete and a freak talent. His body is just now starting to fill out. But his wingspan is 6-foot-6,” Knoxville Catholic head coach Philip Shadowens told MizzouToday in March. “Just a long, athletic, go up and get the ball kind of guy. … You can project him either way, and some have recruited him as a receiver as well. The potential with that kid to do so many things at the next level is what’s made him such a hot commodity.”
The Rivals Industry Rankings, an equally weighted formula that utilizes the three major recruiting services, slots Gibbs as the No. 257 prospect in the country. He ranks as the No. 25 cornerback prospect in the 2028 class and No. 13 player in Tennessee regardless of position.

After a 2025 season filled with injuries, players switching from their natural positions and a nearly winless slate in Southeastern Conference play, Missouri Baseball was looking for a year to show just about any signs of improvement.
They got that in 2026. While a 12-2 loss in the SEC Tournament might have brought an unceremonious end to the season for the Tigers, they didn’t leave Hoover in shame. Before the Tigers’ opening SEC Tournament win over Ole Miss a day earlier, Mizzou had not won its first game in the tournament since defeating Texas A&M in 2017. A pair of series wins over Kentucky and Vanderbilt, while picking up a win against Arkansas for the first time since 2022, gave the Tigers a doubled win tally in conference play.
Mizzou closed the season at 24-31 overall and 6-24 in SEC games. The question is, how much have the signs of forward progress shown and what do they mean for the future of the program?
Let’s start with the present. Those steps forward, paired with the increased competitiveness of the Tigers this season led to the decision by Missouri to retain Jackson as their head coach for the fourth straight season. (Editor’s Note: I’d also add that a 1.1 million buyout probably didn’t help, either.) A report on Friday evening from Kendall Rogers from D1 Baseball stated that the Tigers plan to retain their current head coach Kerrick Jackson.
Ultimately, the broader picture for Missouri baseball, despite all of the aforementioned improvements, is the obvious. They fall behind in the investment aspect compared to other SEC programs — a conference in which the No. 9 seeded team in the SEC tournament is the No. 17 ranked team in the country and where 10 of the nation’s top-25 teams hold a spot.
