Former U.S. Women's National Team star Megan Rapinoe said Tuesday that efforts to bar transgender athletes from competing in women's sports amount to "an attack on women in society," arguing the debate extends far beyond questions of fairness in athletic competition.
Appearing on ABC's "The View," Rapinoe dismissed arguments that restrictions on transgender athletes are primarily about protecting girls and women's sports.
Instead, she argued, opponents are using the issue as part of a broader campaign against women's empowerment.

U.S. women's national team legend Megan Rapinoe said the U.S. men's national team had a good vibe at the 2026 World Cup — until Donald Trump got involved.
Earlier this month, the U.S. president revealed he pushed FIFA president Gianni Infantino to reverse Folarin Balogun's red card suspension ahead of the Belgium match in the round of 16.
Though Infantino has insisted that Trump did not influence FIFA's Disciplinary Committee, which operates independently, Balogun's suspension was lifted at the 11th hour in controversial fashion.
Even with its best forward available, the USMNT turned in a dismal performance against Belgium, losing 4-1 to crash out of the tournament.
"It didn't give them the boost that they were thinking it would or that Trump was hoping that it would," Rapinoe said on The Daily Show this week. "It seemed like it threw them off their game."

One of the few people who didn’t seem too upset over how the Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway fight went at UFC 329 was Max Holloway himself.
McGregor seemingly blew his knee out on the first exchange of the fight, throwing a wild jumping switch kick that missed and buckled his knee just seconds into the first round. Two more falls and the referee stopped the fight, leading to one of the biggest disappointments in UFC main event history (watch the video highlights here).
Holloway didn’t seem to mind, and why would he? He just got paid more than he ever has in his career to fight for one minute. There was no war. No damage. Just a W on his record and money in his bank account. Following the event, he discussed the bizarre non-fight with Megan Olivi on the Paramount+ YouTube channel.
“A win is a win, you know?” Holloway said. “A couple of people got wins over me that kinda ****** me off. But at the end of the day, when it’s all said and done, they’re gonna go down and look in the history books. They’re just gonna look at a piece of paper and see a W next to your name. So that’s what I’m taking it as.”
“I had him weak in the knees,” he said. “What can I say? At the end of the day, it is what it is. We gotta do a third. Hopefully, his injury not too crazy. I know he was saying that they wanted him back in April. I can do that. That’d be fun. I wanna actually feel this 170 weight and power that he says he has. So maybe we can do it back.”

The highly-anticipated rematch between Conor McGregor and Max Holloway ended in all-time disappointment at UFC 329.
After he suffered a fight-ending leg injury in the opening seconds of his main event bout, McGregor (22-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) wasted no time exiting the cage area – and apparently the venue, as well. Multiple ESPN cameras captured McGregor hobbling backstage and all the way outside of T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, still barefoot, shirtless, and wearing his fight shorts.
The extent of his injury is unknown, though UFC reporter Megan Olivi confirmed on the Paramount+ broadcast that it was his right knee. Olivi added that McGregor denied crutches that were attempted to be given to him prior to his arena exit.
McGregor, 37, had not competed since a July 2021 left leg break suffered in his trilogy bout vs. Dustin Poirier. The bout Saturday was the largest live gate in UFC history, per Dana White – and it ended in 69 seconds.
The road for McGregor beyond this is unclear, even more so now that substantial recovery is most likely needed. He has one bout left on his UFC contract and has stated the promotion hoped that bout would take place in April.

Poirier, now retired, has been open with his struggles keepinghimself focused and on task now that he is no longer training toprepare for mutual unarmed combat. In an oft-discussed video, Poirier was filmed heavily intoxicated atthe Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta in late June and arrestedfor the misdemeanor of public drunkenness.
Sonnen asked McGregor directly about Poirier's incident during theshow. Before responding, the Irishman sharply inhaled and collectedhis thoughts.

"Karma is a mirror," McGregor expressed. "It's not good to see. IfI was to say something to him, I would say: take this with absoluteseriousness. Do not engage with people. 'Oh,' there's people [thatwould say], 'it was funny, I like him more,' and you see [them]start laughing about it and maybe you wonder, 'maybe it wasn't sobad. Maybe I'll keep going.' And then the next one's worse, andthen you slip deeper and deeper."

It would not be McGregor if he did not slip in a barb or two, as hejabbed Poirier for his post-retirement appearance and admission that he can now recover properly by takingperformance-enhancing drugs.

"So, I would say, take this with the absolute seriousness," heremarked. "Funny enough, I spoke with [UFC broadcaster] MeganOlivi, they asked me—not on this, it hadn't happened yet. But theywere asking me about Dustin and I'd say, 'For him to retire and goon steroids for no reason, I found that stupid. And then also, hisbody didn't look any different…alarm belts went off in my [head],and I thought [he should] take [his transgressions] with absoluteseriousness. Because, you don't want to slip further and further.He obviously has to take accountability; I've seen something thatcame out [where he] blames his father. You have to [take]accountability [as] a man, that's it."

"Notorious" finished, saying, "It's not my business. And for thesake of his family and children, and his new child born, I hope hecomes right."

There's no stopping the Clatsop County Special Olympic athletes. Brittney Clarke and Jacob McCarr competed in three different events at the 2026 USA Games in Minneapolis. Clarke won gold in the 400-meter walk and also medaled in the 4 x 100-meter relay and mini javelin. McCarr placed fifth in the shot put, was a member of the second-place co-ed 4 x 100 relay team and competed in the 100-yard dash. After Clarke and McCarr brought home medals, Clarke and the rest of the athletes in Clatsop County Special Olympics are set to go on the road and compete this weekend.
The 2026 Oregon Summer Games are slated for July 10 through the 12, and are slated to take place at Oregon State University in Corvallis. Twenty Clatsop County Special Olympics athletes are set to compete in two sports: track and field and bocce ball.
Clarke will lead a list of 12 total track and field athletes. She will be joined by Alex Cary, Joey Bailey, Nicholas Bailey, Blake Chick, Mathias Costello, Marie Kajula, Jack Kain, Jonathan Lempea, Beau Routh, Cheyenne Valunzuela, Megan Wilson and coaches Bill and Karen Lempea. There will also be seven community members going as volunteers, including: Phil and Julie Chick, Michael and Danielle Cary, Clatsop County Special Olympics Program Director David McAloney, Susan Hiebert and Tracie Hunter.
Bocce is one of the newer sports added to the Special Olympics calendar this year and Clatsop County has a total of eight athletes participating this weekend: Brandi Higgins, Angelica Lizarraga, Ben Johnson, David Killion, Jesse Banks, Jerry Allen, Jackie Bleech and Nikki Fletcher. Coaches Patty Kain and Brenda Higgins will also travel with the athletes.
The Italian based game has slowly been gaining popularity in America after getting its start in Italy and other European countries. The lawn game is similar to bowling where teams roll large ******* to try and get them as close as possible to a smaller target called a pallino. It can be played on either grass, sand or a dedicated hardcourt. Italian General Giuseppe Garibaldi popularized the game in Italy during the late 19th century and it has since become an Olympic sport.

Fast forward to July 11, 2026 and all three commentators will return to call McGregor’s long-awaited return to MMA, a five round rematch against Max Holloway atop the UFC 329 fight card.

Nothing sells the game like a World Cup. One team, 11 players, four positions—and the knockout rounds are roaring.
I talked about position dynamics and their related injuries with Dr. Zafar Iqbal, who until recently led sports medicine at ******* nal with a 21-year record consulting in sports and exercise medicine.
The keeper is the only player allowed to use their hands, and pays for it up top. “Goalkeepers face a significantly higher risk of upper limb injuries than outfield players because of the repeated high force impacts involved in blocking, catching, and punching the ball,” says Iqbal. “These actions place substantial stress on the fingers, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.” The usual casualties are sprained, dislocated and broken fingers, and “it’s rare to meet a professional goalkeeper who hasn’t experienced at least one such injury,” he admits. His advice for the weekend warrior: “Protecting your hands as a recreational goalkeeper starts with using appropriate, well-fitted gloves that provide adequate padding and grip.” A finger that swells, weakens or stops bending is one to get checked, not to tape up.
Defenders live in contact. They are particularly ******* e to lower‑limb injuries, which may occur through side tackles or overuse. One of their signature injuries is the ankle sprain. “This usually happens when the ankle rolls inward (inversion), overstretching the ligaments on the lateral side of the ankle,” Iqbal explains. “Less commonly, the ankle may roll outward (eversion), affecting the medial ligaments, or rotate in a way that stresses structures higher up in the ankle.” The temptation is to charge back the moment it stops hurting, and that is the trap. “Players often feel ready to return because pain has subsided, but pain relief alone does not mean the ankle has fully recovered,” he warns. “If strength, range of motion, or proprioception remain impaired, the risk of re-injury is significantly higher.” Does taping help? “Taping can sometimes provide additional support to healing ligaments and improve proprioception—the body’s ability to maintain balance and joint position—which helps reduce the likelihood of recurrent sprains.”

After a tremendous season ending with the program’s second NCAA Tournament appearance, UConn women’s hockey had three players selected in this year’s PWHL Draft, a new school record. All three of this year’s picks originally hail from Canada, landed in the third or fourth rounds, and are heading to expansion franchises.
Tia Chan was the first Husky off the board, at 28th overall, to San Jose with the fourth pick in the 3rd round. The All-American goalie and back-to-back Hockey East Goaltender of the Year is UConn’s all-time leader in wins (70), save percentage (.946), and shutouts (25). This past season, the Hamilton, Ontario native was named National Women’s Goalie of the Year, setting or tying single-season program records for wins (27), saves (1,122), and save percentage (.951).
Kyla Josifovic went 39th overall to Detroit with the third pick in the fourth round, while Megan Woodworth was selected three picks later at 42nd overall to Hamilton.
A team captain this past season, Josifovic notched career highs in goals (16) and ******* ists (24) as she played all 39 games and became the first Husky with a 40-point season since 2008. The Burlington, Ontario native served as a reliable forward from the moment she stepped on campus, playing 144 games in four years at UConn.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike had 20 points and a season-high 17 rebounds, Dearica Hamby added 22 points and 12 rebounds and the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Portland Fire 89-72 on Sunday to snap their three-game losing streak.
Ogwumike had her third consecutive double-double and fifth this season. Kelsey Plum finished with 16 points, seven ****** ists, five rebounds and three steals for the Sparks (5-6). Rae Burrell added 10 points.
Megan Gustafson had 16 points and a season-high 12 rebounds, her first double-double since 2023, for the Fire (6-7). Carla Leite and Emily Engstler added 10 points apiece.
Portland committed nine — which included six steals by LA — of its 15 turnovers and was 5-of-14 shooting as it was outscored 23-12 in the third, the Fire's lowest-scoring quarter this season. Plum had nine points and two ****** ists, while Hamby scored seven in the period to help the Sparks take a 64-55 lead into the fourth.
Plum stole the ball from Leite, then threw it ahead to Hamby for a fast-break layup that capped an 11-2 run and gave Los Angeles an 18-point lead with 6:07 to play.

The 31-year-old musician, born Megan Pete, contacted Six K to hire Archibald to "provide professional services for a variety of events," per a court document reviewed by PEOPLE. However, she allegedly has not paid Archibald for multiple events, ranging from Jan. 8, 2024, through August 2025.
