Kevin McEnroe has been sober for seven years and shares his story on his Substack newsletter Serenity Side Down
He looks back on his family saga, including when he became mom Tatum O'Neal's medical proxy after her 2020 stroke. "In helping her, I started to believe I could become a better man."
McEnroe discusses his family's recovery journey and says of his mom, "The fact we're both such bad alcoholics makes us closer because she can be honest with me."
Kevin McEnroe had been in drug rehab for several months when his sister Emily called him in May 2020 about their mom, Tatum O'Neal.
"She'd had a stroke and was in a coma and might not make it," Kevin recalls. "She had overdosed again. I spent the next month fielding calls about her progress — checking if she's alive. I had to show up and be there for her. It was you need to do this, and I did."

Gennaro Gattuso is thrilled with the Lazio players who produced a fabulous performance against Juventus on Sunday.
The Biancocelesti extended their superb start to the Serie A campaign by registering their sixth win in seven rounds. Oliver Provstgaard, Gustav Isaksen, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru all got on the scoresheet as Lazio returned from Turin with a 3-0 victory. This was certainly the team's best result of the season, especially considering the size of the opponent.
In his post-match interviews (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Gattuso expressed his delight with the team, taking great pleasure in their ability to overcome the odds after being tipped to fight for relegation by some observers at the start of the season.
We're not looking at the league table. We have to keep working hard and maintain the right mentality. I've seen a lot in this game, and we have a clear path to follow: work. People were writing us off as dead and saying we would be fighting relegation. But our path was the right one, and the players believed in it. We'll see where we end up.We like to press our opponents, get tight to our markers and play offensively. That brings benefits. We can't sit back and manage games; we have to keep pressing forward aggressively. On a personal level, it's a pleasure to work with these players, too.
The Calabrian admits that he almost gave up on coaching at one point during his career, but he has now found internal serenity.

As the calendar flips to September, we're officially in the quiet zone of the NBA year. Not much will go on until the final days of the month. All of the major offseason moves have already happened. Teams across the league enjoy some serenity before the marathon starts back up again.
The Oklahoma City Thunder will enter the 2026-27 season as co-title favorites — alongside the San Antonio Spurs. Even with their offseason departures, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren should keep them in the middle of the ***** le hunt.
With nothing else happening, Thunder Wire will regularly conduct Thunder Mailbags over the remainder of the offseason. In this edition, a social media user asked in the DMs — could Alex Caruso's regular-season role change with so many departures?
The Thunder added Caruso in a rare one-for-one player trade with the Chicago Bulls in June 2024. It was one of two offseason moves made that summer that signaled their readiness to take the next step as a serious ***** le contender. Safe to say the win-now move paid off. OKC won the 2025 NBA championship in his first year there and almost won another this past year.
In those two playoff runs, Caruso has been one of OKC's five most important players. Especially when you compare his pedestrian regular-season numbers. He's averaged 6.6 points on 43.3% shooting, 2.9 rebounds and 2.2 ***** ists in the regular season. He's shot 32.2% from 3. And in the playoffs, those numbers jump up to 9.9 points on 46.2% shooting, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 ***** ists. He's shot 42.7% from 3.

September has arrived. The offseason is almost over. Right now, these are the final weeks of serenity until the 2026-27 regular season arrives. Once the marathon starts, the next nine months will be packed with games on an almost every-night basis.
Now that the summer is about over, we can safely say the Philadelphia 76ers had the brightest fireworks that rival the 4th of July night. They completely transformed their team with the additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown. Alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese and VJ Edgecombe, it's easily the most star-studded starting five in the league.
The Sixers were part of arguably the two biggest moves of the offseason. First, they shocked the NBA world with a blockbuster deal. They landed Brown from the Boston Celtics for Paul George and four future draft picks. Fresh off a career year that saw him gain MVP buzz, the 2024 NBA Finals MVP joins an arch-rival.
Later on, Philadelphia eventually — to everybody's surprise — became the winner of the final James sweepstakes. The 41-year-old showed last season that he still has mileage left on his tires. He left the Los Angeles Lakers and left the Cleveland Cavaliers at the altar of a potential third reunion. Looks like he wants to compete for a ring in the final years of his all-time career.
Remains to be seen if that translates to wins, but the NBA schedule-makers have gone all out to parade the Sixers on the national stage. They're tied with the Lakers, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs for most national TV games at a maximum of 34 appearances. One of those is at OKC.

McKahl Champneys' goal helped Fremont edge past Northridge 2-1 in a Region 5 game. After a scoreless first half, Fremont came alive in the second with goals from Scarlette Taylor and McKahl Champneys. Briella Moon pulled one back for Northridge, but it wasn't enough to prevent the loss. Jerzee Watson contributed an **** ist for Fremont in a tightly contested game.

Lazio head coach Gennaro Gattuso believes club president Claudio Lotito should limit his public statements and allow the team to work in serenity.
The 48-year-old was recently appointed as Maurizio Sarri's successor, and the club presented him to the press on Saturday (you can read the first part of the press conference here). Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani presented the Calabrian manager to the press in Lotito's absence.
The patron reportedly travelled to the United States on a business trip that could include a meeting with Nasdaq officials, and could also attend the World Cup final on Friday.
Despite his noticeable absence, the controversial president owner was naturally brought up by the reporters, which prompted a curious answer from Gattuso, who suggested that Lotito should start making fewer public statements for the sake of the club (via Il Messaggero).
Lotito has to be the president. The less a president speaks, the better. That should be the approach. It's up to us to create something positive, then we'll see. That's how I see it—I say what I thinkI'll be honest: I have a straightforward relationship with Lotito—that's just the way I am. I told him he needs to do me a favour and sort a few things out behind the scenes. I don't care who you are, and no one should take offence. I want to see people who work.I told him that if he wants to say something to the squad, he's entitled to do so because it's his club. I also told him he has too many phones and that the situation isn't easy to manage. That's one of his flaws. But the team needs to stay united. We work for him, but I'll always tell him exactly what I think, respectfully.

A skydiving instructor who had made over 6,800 jumps. A drummer who was meticulous about safety since falling in love with the sport that helped him sober up. A software engineer on the cusp of becoming a certified skydiving coach. A grandfather honoring his sister lost to cancer.
Family and friends of the 11 jumpers and pilot killed when their plane crashed shortly after taking off in Missouri said they loved their hobby — whether it was to find personal peace or to share a once-in-a-lifetime experience with others. They remembered the experienced skydivers as people who may have had regular jobs to pay their bills but free falling brought both the thrill and the serenity they craved.
Blake Thacker, 25, jumped for seven years since first skydiving on his 18th birthday. He was set to get his skydiving coach certification over the weekend, his mother Sherry said.
"Skydiving had given him the confidence to do other things in his life, to be successful and reach for things maybe he thought he wasn't good enough to do," she said.
Thacker was an aviation software engineer and his mother saw that same methodical safety-oriented focus in his hobby.

NEW YORK — In the midst of chaos and in the presence of doubt, Victor Wembanyama, the man among the monks, has always sought out peace.
There’s a surreal serenity that often accompanies turbulence. Safety in the eye of the storm. Comfort and calmness.
So on the morning of Game 3, with the fate of the Spurs’ season nestled in enemy territory, Wembanyama sat on a park bench with his family and drew. In that moment, there was no film study, no counters to high tagging or an emphasis on physicality. Just a Frenchman surrounded by nature and his canvas, like Claude Monet or Henri Matisse.
The incongruity of some of Wembanyama’s calmest moments coming within one of the busiest, loudest places on Earth boils down to an individuality that has elevated the 7-foot-4 center — literally and figuratively — above the rest of his esteemed colleagues. Two years ago, when a young, inexperienced Spurs group found itself in a bout of inconsistency, Wembanyama found himself in Washington Square Park for a game of chess. And two years later, when these same young, inexperienced Spurs fell in a 2-0 hole, his travels led him to Gramercy Park.
“Really tried to relax,” Wembanyama said when asked about clearing his mind following San Antonio’s 115-11 win. “The playoffs, it's like a — I don't know how to say that word — a whirlwind. It's hard to put your head out of the water. Sometimes I don't even got to watch the game back right away. I need some time off, let my brain cool down, recover. Recover as much for the body as for the mind.”
