The team announced July 30 that former Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato was hired to join a staff led by head coach Rick Bowness, a move that's been pending for a month. The Blue Jackets also announced the hiring of San Jose Sharks **** istant video coach Cody Ward to head their video staff.
Granato, 58, and Ward, 28, join **** istant Trent Vogelhuber, **** istant Jared Boll, goaltending coach Niklas Backstrom and **** istant video coach Cam Briere.
"I am very excited about the staff we have put together," Bowness said in a statement. "I've known Donny [Granato] for many years and have great respect for him as a coach, but more importantly as a person. A source close to Joshua Kushner's company, Thrive Capital, dismissed criticism over the firm's involvement in the controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) investment plan to CBS News on Thursday, hours before UEFA, the European soccer federation, announced its boycott.
Kushner is the younger brother of Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law. FIFA president Gianni Infantino's close relationship with Mr. Trump drew scrutiny throughout this summer's World Cup, which was hosted jointly by the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
"I think the first ****** umption is that Trump was involved in FFE in any capacity, which is just not accurate," the source told CBS News on Thursday. "Josh himself does not have any links with the administration, he does not have any political roles, he has not donated to them, he is not involved in any capacity. If you look at his donation record, all of the causes he has donated to are Democrat … it's kind of unfair to ****** ume a lot about somebody just because of what their brother does."

The Times is reporting that FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been in talks with private investors about selling stakes in the World Cup. It's a move that would take complete control of the global tournament out of FIFA's hands, and give a seat at the table to private entities with their own agendas. Moreover, the report added that a key figure in brokering these deals is U.S. President Donald Trump, whom Infantino cozied up to during the 2026 World Cup by presenting him with the inaugural FIFA peace prize and then sitting next to the president at games he attended.
FIFA has since confirmed the report, adding that Josh Kushner is positioned to be the lead investor in the plan, should Infantino elect to sell shares in the World Cup. Josh is the brother of Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son in law.
Details of the plan are nebulous, but according to the report, the World Cup would ostensibly be split off from FIFA and into a new corporation, with Infantino as its commissioner as soon as his term as FIFA president ends in 2031. In his role as commissioner of this new company he would oversee the men's and women's World Cup, as well as the Club World Cup — with plans to run tournaments more frequently than every four years. It would be the most staggering pivot in the history of the World Cup, drastically altering the future of the tournament in order to squeeze more money out of the event.
Infantino can't privatize the World Cup unilaterally, requiring the 211 member nations to vote on the proposal. The selling point for these members is that each of them would get a stake in the new company worth approximately $20M — putting a valuation on the entity at $4.22B. If that $20M sum for each nation seems paltry, it's because it is, and it appears that is the plan by design.
Member nations would have the freedom to keep or sell their stakes in the World Cup corporation at their will under the Infantino plan. $20M is a pittance for the richest nations competing in global soccer, but for the dozens of nations dealing with budgetary issues it would enable them to sell out of the World Cup in desperation, putting their stakes in the hands of private ownership. It's easy to envision a scenario where enough FIFA member countries sell their shares for profit to a point where the controlling interest of the World Cup is no longer under the control of a true democratic body, but private equity.

Myles Garrett is heading into his 10th NFL season, and his first with the Rams. If he has the kind of big year the Rams are hoping for, he could break the NFL record for the most sacks ever in a player's first 10 seasons.
Through nine years, Garrett has 125.5 career sacks. The record for the most sacks in a player's first 10 seasons is 145, set by Reggie White in his 10th NFL season, in 1994. So if Garrett gets 20 sacks this season, he'll break White's record.
It's worth noting that the record has an asterisk: Official NFL records for a player's sack total have only been recorded since 1982. Deacon Jones has the unofficial record, with 155 sacks in his first 10 seasons.
Garrett set the NFL record for sacks in a season last year, when he had 23. So a 20-sack season is possible for him this year.
After Jones and White, Jared Allen has the next-most sacks through 10 seasons, with 128.5. Garrett will almost certainly get the 3.5 sacks he needs to surpass Allen.

It means the Rams were more than justified in making the move for Garrett. There are rare situations in which a team should trade a Pro Bowl pass rusher before they've hit their prime, and if the Rams were to lose Jared Verse, Garrett is the only player that makes sense in the long run.

BRUSSELS, July 23 (Reuters) - A group of investors including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment ‌Fund has secured EU antitrust ‌approval for its $55 billion acquisition of video game developer Electronic Arts, the European Commission said on Thursday.
Saudi Arabia's $1 trillion wealth fund, Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners and private equity firm Silver ‌Lake announced the ⁠deal, the largest leveraged buyout in history, in September last year.
The ⁠Commission, which acts as the EU competition enforcer and had examined the deal under its merger rules, said the acquisition would not ‌raise competition concerns, confirming a Reuters story.
The EU executive is also scrutinising the deal under its Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) aimed at preventing unfair non-EU subsidies granted to ‌companies looking to acquire rivals in the 27-country bloc and is seen as a bigger hurdle.
PIF ‌is also expected to win EU clearance under EU subsidy rules, people familiar with the matter told Reuters last week. The ‌Commission's decision is due by July 30.

As we near August, we're about to flip the driest part of the NBA's year-round calendar. All of the offseason moves are done. Everybody's focus has shifted toward the 2026-27 season. For now, though, teams across the league get to relax for a bit before training camp begins.
For NBA players, though, right now is when most of your critical developmental work takes place. The ample time off allows guys across the league to put in serious work and upgrade their bag. Especially for young players still learning the ropes of the NBA.
Jared McCain is somebody who's taking advantage of his resources. He's spent time in Canada with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. After being an NBA trade deadline acquisition, this is the first time he's had a chance to take a breath and fully embrace being on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Thunder added McCain in a buy-low move from the Philadelphia 76ers. The 22-year-old suddenly became important at work. In just three months, he was jettisoned to the top of the depth chart. Injuries to Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell forced him to learn on the job in the game's highest stakes imaginable.
All things considered, McCain did solid. He had two 20-point games that helped the Thunder push the San Antonio Spurs to seven in the 2026 Western Conference Finals. Ultimately, the short-handed squad fell in Game 7. But his microwave scoring was one of the brighter takeaways.
