DELMAR - The Columbia football team opened a lot of eyes with its Week 1 victory over Queensbury. For those still wondering whether that win was an aberration, the Blue Devils showed Bethlehem Thursday evening that they are a force to be reckoned with.
Columbia shook off a slow start and registered another impressive all-around performance in posting a 31-0 Class A road victory over the Eagles.
It seemed apropos that Columbia senior two-way lineman Adam Burek departed the field after the game with a sledgehammer draped over his right shoulder. The Blue Devils sure brought the muscle Thursday.
The Blue Devils (2-0 overall, 2-0 Class A) were coming off a resounding 48-27 Week 1 triumph over Queensbury, a team that knocked Columbia out of the Class A playoffs in 2025 and 2024. Thursday, Columbia generated a 443-138 edge in offense and never allowed Bethlehem (0-2, 0-2) to reach the red zone.
"It feels great. We had a great offseason with all the guys. We had a good camp and we have really just brought it together the last two weeks," Burek said.

The 2026 NFL season will be Jared Goff's sixth season in a Detroit Lions uniform. Goff played in all 17 games last season for Detroit. He completed 68.0% of his passes for 4,564 yards, 34 touchdowns and eight interceptions, finishing second in the NFL in both passing yards and passing touchdowns.
That production still was not enough to put him inside the top 10 at his position entering this season.
Nick Shook of NFL.com sorted all 32 starting quarterbacks into tiers ahead of Week 1. Tier 1 held only four names: Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Patrick Mahomes and Drake Maye. Goff landed in Tier 2 at No. 11 overall, one spot outside the top 10.
Shook wrote, "Jared Goff and the Lions have plenty to prove after missing the playoffs last season, although their offensive line concerns me and could be an issue if it doesn't collectively elevate its play in 2026."
Detroit finished 9-8 last season, fourth in the NFC North, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2022. The Lions will look to get back for the third time in four seasons when they open the season against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field on Sunday.

There was little doubt prior to kickoff that BYU's season opener against Utah Tech wasn't going to go exactly as it went. The No. 14-ranked Cougars, a seven-touchdown favorite, overwhelmed the Trailblazers in all phases of the game to win by eight touchdowns, 63-7.
Along the way, there were three key plays that set BYU on a course to quickly turn opening night into a glorified pre-game workout for next week's Big 12 opener against Arizona. Here they are:
Cannon DeVries had dreamed about just such a moment growing up in North Ogden and playing football at Weber High — he wanted to get to LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo and return a kickoff for a touchdown.

In the week leading up to the season opener, ownership transferred from the Paul Allen estate to the Khosla family. His wife Neeru Khosla is now designated as the Controlling Owner of the Seahawks, and President of their Charitable Foundation. Their son, Neal Khosla, is the Vice Chair of the Seahawks.
But we at Seahawks Wire would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the legacy of Paul and Jody Allen, and what they gave to both the Seahawks franchise and the Pacific Northwest. Under their leadership, they helped transform the Seahawks into a national, championship caliber brand. Paul saved the city from being relocated to the Los Angeles area under the previous ownership of Ken Behring. Part of his purchase agreement included the Washington state legislature to hold a statewide referendum on funding a new stadium, which passed, paving the way for the iconic Lumen Field.
Paul Allen transformed a middling NFL franchise into one of the NFL's more recognizable teams. Mel Gibson has issued an apology for his behavior during a public event amid mounting backlash. During his recent appearance at FanExpo Canada, Gibson mocked an ASL interpreter as he walked onto the stage for his retrospective Q&A. The video quickly went viral online. Users called out Gibson for his insensitive behaviour, for which Gibson has since issued an apology.
The moment, as caught on camera, saw Mel Gibson enter the spotlight on stage and begin making gibberish symbols with his hands, with the ASL interpreter standing right in front of him, with his back to her. The moment was brief, but fans found it to be in poor taste anyway.
Regarding the moment, Gibson said, "Sometimes when you get pushed out on a stage in a spotlight, your mind is all over the place, and sometimes spontaneous thoughtless idiocy is displayed. There was no intended maliciousness attached, and I certainly apologize to anyone who was upset by it."

NEW YORK — Andy Green joked he was willing to force his own exit to ensure that Juan Soto stayed in the batter's box for the biggest at-bat of Sunday's game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning of a tie game with a runner in scoring position, Soto fouled a 2-2 fastball off his right shin. The superstar outfielder, who was playing his first game since landing on the injured list on July 25 with a left calf strain, jammed the handle of his bat into the grass, crouched near the on-deck circle and shook off the sting.
"I was certainly hoping we weren't taking him out of the game," Green said. "I was gonna give him all the time in the world he needed. I would've gotten ejected just to give him more time. The umpire was saying to speed things up."
On the very next pitch, Soto caught a hanging knuckle-curve from Cristian Javier and deposited it into right field for the go-ahead RBI single in the Mets' 6-2 victory over the Astros in front of 29,183 fans at Citi Field.
The interruption provided a brief scare for Soto, who has twice been on the injured list this season, but he proved his worth once again by flashing his dynamic bat in a key spot in his first game back.

Félix Bautista delivered a clean inning in his second rehab appearance (first at Triple-A). Bautista shook off the rust from his first outing and generated a ground out, strikeout, and fly out. His sinker topped out at 97 MPH.
Bautista entered after starter Trey Gibson threw four innings of two-run ball. Gibson allowed four hits, struck out four, and did not hand out a free pass.

Enrique Bradfield Jr. tied the game with a single in the seventh, José Barrero gave the Tides the lead with a solo homer in the eighth, and Jeremiah Jackson drove in a crucial insurance run with a base hit in the ninth. Bradfield Jr. finished 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot, and Jackson went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.
Heston Kjerstad doubled and took a walk. Aaron Noda walked twice and launched a solo home run in the top of the second. Creed Willems ended the day 0-for-5 with three strikeouts.

HUGO – McAlester softball snapped its losing streak with a big 17-0 run rule win over Hugo Tuesday.
During their streak, the Lady Buffaloes (4-5) dropped games to strong teams like Byng, Tahlequah, Shawnee and Durant. But they shook off the rust Tuesday in the win over Hugo.
The McAlester bats came alive on the road, recording 16 hits and 13 RBIs. Carsyn Sutterfield went 3-for-4 and Emerson Hollis went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Buffaloes.
Sam Shafer struck out four and walked none during her four innings in the circle.
The win could prove to be a launching pad for the McAlester festival.

Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott has been found guilty of child ***** ual abuse.
The 49-year-old denied two charges of lewd and libidinous behaviour towards a girl and a boy between 1993 and 2010.
During a trial, the High Court in Glasgow heard that Dott had exposed himself and inappropriately touched a primary school girl in the 1990s and attacked a young boy between 2006 and 2010.
Lord Harrower told Dott, who won the World Snooker Championship in 2006, he would be sentenced at a separate hearing in Edinburgh on 29 September.
Dott covered his face with his hands and shook his head while the verdict was delivered by jurors following a five-day trial.

It seemed set in stone that the future of Toulouse FC's Dayann Methalie (20) belonged in the Premier League. Having been keen to secure the services of the young left-back for several weeks, AFC Sunderland had managed to reach an agreement with their French counterparts regarding the transfer of their rising star. Everything looked set… until the customary medical examination shook things up.
In fact, it was during this procedure that an abnormality in Methalie's back was reportedly identified, forcing the Black Cats to consider only two options: to proceed with the risk of aggravating the injury, or to put the player on a treatment programme that would keep him out of action for six weeks.
However, according to reports in L'Équipe, this ******* sment has not been shared by Téfécé's medical staff, who regard the Frenchman's problem as minor and of no consequence to his availability. Such conflicting opinions have prompted Sunderland's management to consult a Paris-based back specialist, who in turn confirmed that there was nothing of concern to report.
Not entirely reassured, the English club requested further medical opinions and, as a result, reportedly decided to put their initial offer on hold. This did not, however, prevent the Black Cats' management from proposing to Toulouse that they amend the terms of their agreement, ultimately offering a loan with an option to buy.

While it wasn't a storybook ending, it was still an "incredible summer" for the Tupelo 49ers.
For just the third time ever, Tupelo reached the American Legion World Series. They rolled into Shelby, North Carolina, on a hot streak and kept it going in pool play with a 3-0 mark. This had all the signs of a team that could win it all after coming up short in 2011 and 2021.
That dream ended Monday, when Portland (Ore.) beat the 49ers 3-1 in the semifinals. It was just Tupelo's second loss in its last 22 games.
"it was an incredible summer," fourth-year head coach Russell Bunch said. "These guys have really grown together, and it's been a real good experience for everybody. I'm just really proud for them. I hate it shook out like it did and we weren't able to win the whole thing."
There were a lot of memorable moments along the way, though. After winning the state tournament, the Niners left town Aug. 5 and stayed gone for nearly two weeks. They rolled through the Mid-South Regional, putting on one offensive show after another and batting .398 over five games. Regional MVP Jonas Coleman batted .667 with six RBIs over that span.

There is a reason why the Royal Rumble is still a big draw in the WWE, and it's not just about who is left standing at the end. The start of the match sees some of the lesser known and sometimes flat out mediocre wrestlers bouncing off of each other and all fighting in the midst of pure chaos. It's beautiful in its own way.
Speaking of which, the AFC and NFC South will crown a champion this season in the NFL.
It's not to say that the winner from either division can't go on to a deep playoff run and possibly even a Super Bowl. But there is almost certainly going to be a brawl to even reach the postseason with basically every team arguing a legitimate point on why they can be division champs.
The AFC South feels like it is entirely composed of teams that both need to put up or shut up and would scare just about any other team in the postseason. The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off of a resurgent season and appear comfortable with both their head coach and quarterback. The Houston Texans are clearly all in on the season and will need to return to their 2024 level of play. The Indianapolis Colts hope a fully healthy season can keep their talent at a higher level and get back to the postseason. While the Tennessee ******* ans hope to surprise the world with a big step forward.
The NFC South has been the punchline of the NFL for a few years now, but with a division full of young teams it could be the year one of the teams break's out as a real contender. The Carolina Panthers shook things up last year by winning the division and hope their young quarterback can continue to progress. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers believe they have the pieces but this might be the final year of their window. The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints are both building back their roster full of young players in a division that they could take.

Last week, Nick Shook of the league's official website published his preseason power rankings ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Shook clearly believes in the Denver Broncos, ranking them second overall, only trailing the Los Angeles Rams.
"After falling painfully short of the Super Bowl last season, the Broncos return one of the most complete rosters in the NFL with hope spilling out of their saddlebags," Shook wrote for NFL.com. "There's good reason for the optimism: Their core contributors return on both defense and offense, and they've added a new weapon in explosive receiver Jaylen Waddle. Theoretically, the team that finished 14-3 last season should be even better."
Elsewhere in the AFC West, the Kansas City Chiefs are ranked No. 15, the Los Angeles Chargers are ranked No. 17 and the Las Vegas Raiders are ranked No. 31.

Having notched 50 wins on Sunday against the Giants, the Colorado Rockies will now take on the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers in search of more with a three-game series at Coors Field starting tonight.
The roster will look a bit different as the Rockies made some moves earlier on Monday, notably designating starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen for **** ignment and recalling TJ Shook.
Colorado (50-74) will send its winningest pitcher to the mound to face L.A. (74-51). Tomoyuki Sugano (菅野 智, 12-5, 4.43) has the most wins in a Rockies uniform since Germán Márquez posted 12 in 2021. Like many, Sugano has struggled vs. the Dodgers this season. In two starts, he's gone 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA, surrendering three homers with six strikeouts in 8.2 innings.
LHP Blake Snell (0-1, 5.00) will be on the mound for the Dodgers, making only his third start of the season. Snell made one start in May before going on the 60-day IL with loose bodies in his left elbow. In his first game back, Snell was outstanding, giving up one run on three hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in six innings on Aug. 11 against Kansas City.
The Dodgers enter the season having played 10 games in the last 10 days, going 5-5 over the stretch. The Rockies have also gone 5-5 in their last 10 games, having won two series on the road against Arizona and San Francisco.

Rory McIlroy shook off some rust at the FedEx St. Jude Championship — but not much else.
Returning from a long layoff for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the opening playoff event, McIlroy posted rounds of 74, 70, 72 and 72 to finish in 66th place. He said the week was a constant battle with his swing and he was never able to get comfortable.
"Obviously didn't come in here with a ton of reps, almost felt like the more the week went on, the more I felt lost with my golf swing a little bit," McIlroy said after Sunday's final round. "Swing wasn't in sync and obviously didn't do a ton of practice coming in here."

One week out from the earthquake that shook Colombia to its core, Shakira is returning home. On Monday, the singer travels to Chocó, the area that bore the brunt of the magnitude-7.4 quake that struck on August 10 with an epicenter in San José del Palmar. It's a trip she's making not as a performer, but as a Colombian.

According to Vanitatis, Shakira is expected to land around 2:30 p.m. local time and head to a local school, accompanied by the mayor and the governor of the region. Her arrival is scheduled for roughly 3:15 p.m., when she'll spend the day with students, families, and teachers still reeling from the disaster.
The stop is no coincidence: the school sits at the intersection of Shakira's music career and her philanthropic one. It's tied to her Barefoot Foundation, which opened its first school in Quibdó, Chocó's capital, back in 2005. In the two decades since, the foundation has built out a network of programs aimed at improving educational access for children and expanding opportunities for teenagers and young adults across Colombia, with education as the throughline of everything it does.
Few artists carry the weight that Shakira does in Colombia, and her presence in Chocó this week is being read as a gesture of solidarity from one of the country's own, delivered in person rather than from a stage or a screen.

NFL.com's Nick Shook has new preseason power rankings. We have to figure that the Arizona Cardinals are fairly low on the list, but let's see what the NFC West as a whole looks like, compared to the entire league.
You've heard the sound bites, read the headlines and drowned in the tidal wave of optimism. The Rams are Lombardi Trophy favorites, seemingly destined for a march to a Super Bowl that will be played in their home stadium, the same location in which they won their last ******* le. It's never that easy, of course, but GM Les Snead has built a monster in Los Angeles. With Myles Garrett trading brown and orange for royal blue and sol, Aaron Donald nearing a potential return from retirement to hop back onto the bandwagon he once captained, and Matthew Stafford coming off an MVP-winning season, this is a year the Rams go for it all. It will be up to them to make it through to the other side of a season-long gauntlet in their attempt to claim the throne.
This is no surprise. With the return of Matthew Stafford, an offense that was fantastic, and with the defensive additions of Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie, the Rams are the team to beat in 2026.
The reigning champs lost Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III in free agency, don't yet have his former running mate, Zach Charbonnet, available as he continues on his journey back from a torn ACL, and are placing a lot of backfield responsibility on the likes of rookie Jadarian Price and backup George Holani. Star defender Nick Emmanwori remains on the physically unable to perform list, too, although there's hope Mike Macdonald's ultimate chess piece can return in time for Week 1. Otherwise, everything is great for the Seahawks. Continuity will reign early in 2026, thanks in large part to the return of a familiar starting offensive lineup. The suffocating defense lost some pieces to free agency in the offseason, requiring reinforcement that could be tested, but there's little reason to think the 'Hawks will be anywhere but right back in the thick of the NFC race.

Guadalajara made the most of the superiority it showed on the field at TSM and claimed a 1-0 win over Santos on Matchday 4 of the 2026 Apertura. With this victory, the Rojiblancos picked up 3 important points that allow them to keep climbing the standings.
True to their style, the Rebaño Sagrado took the field intending to impose their conditions from the opening whistle. Gabriel Milito's side pushed their lines forward to create danger in the final third. Despite going into halftime scoreless, Guadalajara maintained its intensity and never stopped looking for the opener.
That persistence paid off in the second half. Santiago Sandoval made a great play inside the box, where he feinted and shook off his marker to draw a foul that led to a penalty. Ricardo Marín took responsibility from the spot and converted to score the goal that gave Guadalajara the win in the Comarca Lagunera.
Guadalajara's next match will be at home. On Saturday, August 22, they will host Tijuana at AKRON Stadium, where they will look to earn another win in front of the entire Nación Rojiblanca.

John ruptured the medial collateral ligament in his left elbow due to overuse. After two months of rest, he elected to have surgery. Dodgers team physician Frank Jobe replaced the fraying ligament on Sept. 25, 1974.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Ja'Kobi Lane had a 16-yard touchdown catch during a promising night for Ravens rookie receivers, and Baltimore beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-7 on Saturday night in the preseason opener for both teams.
Lane, a wide receiver from Southern California selected in the third round of the NFL draft, finished with three receptions for 38 yards.
Fourth-round selections Matt Hibner (tight end, Southern Methodist) and Elijah Sarratt (wide receiver, Indiana) combined for 11 receptions and 127 yards to help Jesse Minter win his preseason head coaching debut.
With Baltimore's Lamar Jackson and Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts among the starters on both sides who did not play, backup Tyler Huntley led Baltimore's first two series and went 6 for 7 for 76 yards.
Joe ******* nano, an undrafted rookie from UConn, connected with Lane and shook off a later interception to complete 22 of 28 passes for 223 yards.

Well, the Dolphins might've found Willis' new No. 1 target in third-round rookie Caleb Douglas. The reason why? Douglas made one catch during the preseason opener that was a stunning reception and should further bolster his already soaring camp stock.
Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN described Douglas's incredible catch well, writing: "The rookie shook off defensive pass interference, tipped the ball to himself with one hand and corralled it in for a 28-yard reception."

The NBA has rolled out its entire 2026-27 regular season schedule. The annual mid-August event provides a jolt of excitement in an otherwise mundane part of the calendar. Reviewing how things shook out in the basketball marathon, the Oklahoma City Thunder will be a main character once again.
The Thunder have the fifth-most national TV appearances at 30 games in the 2026-27 regular season. Four other teams are ahead of them with 34 games each — the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Little surprising the Thunder didn't get the maximum 34 national TV games allowed. Especially considering some of the teams ahead of them. Alas, there's a decent chance that OKC will get a few more added to its schedule as the 2026-27 regular season progresses.
Breaking down OKC's national TV schedule, it will play nine games on NBC/Peacock, eight games on Amazon Prime, seven games on ESPN, four games on ABC/ESPN and two games on Peacock.
Some of the bigger 2026-27 national TV games the Thunder will play include Opening Night at the Spurs, OKC's home opener against the Denver Nuggets and Christmas Day at the Minnesota Timberwolves.

IanGarry says he had no intent of starting a feud with KhamzatChimaev.

Garry defeated BelalMuhammad last November, with ArmanTsarukyan finishing Dan Hooker inthe main event of the same card in Doha, Qatar. Chimaev, who was inTsarukyan's corner, then had an altercation with Garry backstage,which "The Future" recently revisited.
Garry shook hands with the entire team and also patted Chimaev onthe back. The latter then seemingly felt provoked and pushed Garrybefore security stepped in.

Garry recently shared his side of the story, claiming he had nomalicious intent when he was greeting Chimaev and his entire team.The Irishman also notes that Chimaev didn't immediately react whenhe patted him. Garry claims Chimaev was fired up only after peoplestepped in between them. He believes Chimaev would have gottenphysical when they were in proximity if he really wanted to.

"Me and Khamzat aren't boys," Garry told Full Send MMA. "When I goto a team and there's Arman Tsarukyan tying his shoelace, I saidcongrats to him, I said congrats to his other coach and congrats toone more. And I leave one guy out and I didn't see him.
