Two years ago, it seemed like ******* ody wanted to touch Intel (NASDAQ: INTC). The company that basically invented the modern chip industry had turned into its own cautionary tale, posting an $18.8 billion net loss for 2024 while it fell behind Nvidia in artificial intelligence (AI) and behind Taiwan's foundries in manufacturing.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Then something strange happened. The U.S. government bought a stake in Intel. So did Nvidia. So did SoftBank. Companies and governments don't usually hand over billions to a business they think is finished, and that's the real reason I think the next 14 months matter more for this stock than almost any stretch in Intel's recent history.
Turnarounds aren't real until a real, working product ships, and Intel is finally shipping. In July, the company said its newest Arizona fab had entered high-volume manufacturing on a subset of its Core Ultra Series 3 chips, known as Panther Lake, the first processor built on Intel 18A, which Intel calls the most advanced semiconductor process ever developed and manufactured in the United States. Its second-quarter 2026 release adds that the next node behind it, 18A-P, had already entered risk production, meaning Intel isn't just trying to catch up on one generation, it's trying to stay on pace for the one after. On the data center side, that same release says Intel also launched Xeon 6+, its first server chip built on 18A.
Money talks, and in 2025 three very different yet massive buyers said the same thing with their wallets. The U.S. government invested $8.9 billion in Intel common stock, structured largely out of unpaid CHIPS Act and Secure Enclave funding, in exchange for roughly 275 million shares and warrants for up to 241 million more. Nvidia added $5 billion, and SoftBank put in another $2 billion, both also in Intel common stock. None of this money really guarantees Panther Lake sells well, or that Intel's foundry business ever turns a real profit. But I think it's an odd thing to do if you think a company is circling the drain, and you don't have any faith in it.

Packers' Xavier McKinney reveals NFL fined him for ripping refs after loss to Lions appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Green Bay Packers returned to the win column after outlasting the Carolina Panthers, 27-19, at Lambeau Field on Thursday. The Packers improved to 5-3, while the Panthers dropped to 3-4.
Green Bay bounced back after falling short against the Detroit Lions, 20-17, at Ford Field in Week 7. After the loss, Xavier McKinney did not hold back on the referees, blasting them for what he deemed were questionable calls, including a critical penalty in the fourth quarter.
"I don't know how the NFL's going to treat it, but I'm not a big fan of the refs right now. I don't think it's great officiating, if I'm being completely honest. I think it's b******* a lot of the time," said McKinney.

Channel 2's Karyn Greer sat down exclusively with former Atlanta City Council President and WNBA President Lisa Borders to talk about the team and her family's civil rights legacy.
Borders served as the 4th WNBA president a decade ago and she told Greer she is so proud to still be part of the Dream's support system. In fact, she calls all the women in the league her daughters.
For Borders, the Atlanta Dream is more than a team to cheer for, its a team she helped bring to life.

DrewDober credits TerenceCrawford with helping him adjust his approach against RafaelAlves.
Dober met Crawford at B&B Boxing in Omaha, Nebraska, andrecalls the boxer leaving him bloodied during their first sparringsession. Years later, Crawford offered advice from ringside thatDober says helped him finish Alves at UFC277 in Dallas.
Dober said Crawford switched to southpaw to mirror his stance andbloodied his nose with a jab. He recalled absorbing three punchesfor every one he attempted to throw.
"Terence Crawford bloodied my nose in the first 30 seconds of ourspar. I was a young fighter in a North Omaha gym," Dober wrote onX. "Never heard of the guy they called 'Bud.' He saw I was asouthpaw, switched to southpaw too, and stuck me with one jab. Iwas bleeding like a stuck pig."
Crawford attended Dober's fight against Alves at UFC 277 in 2022.Dober said he struggled to connect cleanly because of Alves' headmovement. As he returned to his corner after the opening round, henoticed Crawford calling from the front row and urging him toattack the body.
Dober followed that advice, finding success in the second roundbefore knocking out Alves with a body punch in the third.
"In the fight against RafaelAlves, I'm trying to hit him in the face, I'm throwing punchesand this man has amazing head movement…" Dober recalled. "After thefirst round, I'm going over to my corner and I see Terence Crawfordin that front row. And he's just yelling at me, 'Drew, Drew.' So, Ilook at him and he goes, 'Go to the body, go to the body.' I waslike, if Crawford says it. So, in the second round, I started goingto the body and started finding success. So, in the third round, Ithrew a liver shot and I dropped him with that liver shot."
Dober (29-15, 1 NC) has won his last two fights by stoppage andwill face ChrisDuncan (15-3) at UFC334 on Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

SAN FRANCISCO — Hundreds of Golden State Valkyries fans packed Rikki's Women's Sports Bar in southwest San Francisco on Thursday morning.
They came for a party.
Over 2,000 miles away, their Valkyries tipped off against the Atlanta Dream in a potential championship-clinching Game 6 at 12:30 p.m. local time — or 9:30 a.m. in the Bay Area.
With a trophy on the line for the 2-year-old franchise, fans arrived as early as 7 a.m. Staff reported 30 minutes later, and the bar opened at 8:30 a.m. Some asked bosses to move shifts, requested PTO, or called in sick. One fan declined an on-camera interview, admitting they didn't want their manager to find out why they skipped work.
There was community, cheers, chants … and breakfast. Purple and black Valkyries shirts, jerseys, and hoodies filled the room. An oddly purple-colored white rum drink made the rounds, while cheers ricocheted off the purple-painted walls of the mid-sized bar that calls itself "Mini Ballhalla."

A report suggests that Meghan Markle received an apology from her half-brother, who had previously sided with their father, Thomas Markle Sr. He reportedly now understands his father's character and why Markle kept him away from the family. A revelation following the ***** ss of Sussex's recent comments on the serious allegations against him.
The Sun reports that Markle's half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., has asked for her forgiveness after supporting their father, Thomas Markle Sr., who's facing serious allegations at present.
According to the outlet, he said, "I'm so, so sorry. I now know I have been protecting the wrong person for the past nine years." He now calls the man he defended a "monster," claiming he finally sees the clear picture.
"I now know exactly why you don't talk to him any more and why you won't let him meet Harry or his grandchildren. And I'm ashamed that I spent years taking his side when you fell out with him," he further added.
The half-brother further addressed Markle, acknowledging that they aren't close. However, he remembered the time they spent together during her childhood. He revealed that he held her and looked after her when she was a baby. He also asked her to accept his apology and wished her family well.

The World Series matchup isn't set in stone just yet, but Tampa Bay took a major step towards being the one that will face Milwaukee in the Fall Classic. They took two out of three in Cleveland to return home with a 3-2 series lead heading into a big Game 6 tonight, where they'll start Freddy Peralta who has been dealing this postseason while the Guardians will scramble to piece their way through a bullpen game after having to get 21 outs from their relievers yesterday. Thanks to the postponed Game 4 eating up the travel day, even if they do win tonight they'll also be forced to play the potential do-or-die Game 7 on four straight days without a night off — it's not looking pretty for Cleveland, to say the least.
We've got a full slate for you ahead of this critical Game 6 later tonight, starting with Jake's recap of Game 5's action in the Roundup. Michael hands out a stellar grade to David Bednar to kick off our annual Report Card series, and Kevin recalls Sandy Alomar Sr. and his days with the Yankees on his birthday. Then in the afternoon Jonathan goes over the Yankees' longest home runs of the season and Estevao reflects on the gap between Giancarlo Stanton and 500 career home runs before I return to open up the mailbag for more of your questions.
American League Championship Series Game 6
(Rays lead series, 3-2)
Cleveland Guardians vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Luciano Spalletti is a man under pressure at Juventus and calls for Antonio Conte to return as head coach are getting louder and louder following Sunday evening's 3-0 defeat at home against Lazio in Serie A.
Juventus have picked up just 11 points from their first seven matches of the 2026-27 season. They are currently one point worse off than they were at the same stage of the 2025-26 season, which led to the departure of Igor Tudor from his position as head coach after the eighth league match just shy of one year ago.

The atmosphere was sour inside the Allianz Stadium after full-time and supporters have also grown concerned by the reaction of the coach and players in their post-match media duties, centre-back Bremer claiming that he 'can't carry everyone'.
Many supporters online have been calling for Spalletti to go and for him to be replaced by former Juventus boss Antonio Conte. This has also been suggested in several newspapers and online outlets, including La Repubblica and Calciomercato.com.

"When they last met" is an ongoing series during the NFL season that recalls the previous game between Washington and the Commanders' next opponent.
San Francisco nearly doubled Washington in yards and time of possession as it easily defeated the Commanders 27-10 on Sunday at Northwest Stadium in Landover.
The 49ers ran the ball down the Commanders' throats all day, totaling 184 rushing yards while Washington managed just 62.
The Commanders' defense offered little resistance to 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who completed 22 of 28 passes for 230 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Purdy's two-yard touchdown pass to Deebo Samuel put San Francisco ahead 10-0 in the first quarter. In the final quarter, with over nine minutes remaining, Purdy connected on a 17-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Aiyuk for the game's final score and a 27-10 lead.
Sam Howell connected with Terry McLaurin on a 3-yard touchdown pass with 4:33 remaining in the first half, tying the game at 10-10. However, the 49ers took control, scoring on Jake Moody's 22-yard field goal with 19 seconds left in the half, and the Commanders never threatened again.

In a way, the Dallas Cowboys' loss to the Buccaneers on Thursday night at home was not quite as bad a loss as what we saw on Sunday in Green Bay, at least from coach brian Schottenheimer's perspective. Sounds absurd, sure, given that the Cowboys lost to a previously winless team that was starting an undrafted rookie, Jalon Daniels, on their home field last week. But there was a chance that could be viewed as a one-off. There was a chance that could be rock bottom, and that the Cowboys could rebuild this season from there. Starting against the Packers at Lambeau Field.
Instead, what we saw on Sunday was confirmation of the worst fears that lingered from the Buccaneers game: That this team and its NFL Super Bowl aspirations had been broken in that loss, that something snapped and might not be able to be repaired. Because, though the defense played better on Sunday–after the first half, at least–the offense appeared beyond repair, a steep three-week drop that has seen Dak Prescott throw four interceptions in two games, after having thrown just four in nine games before that.
Around Cowboys media and fans, the finger of blame is increasingly turning to Schottenheimer, and calls for the team to take action are mounting.
From Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: "Believe it or not, this roster is good enough. Is it elite? No. Is it great? No. But it should be good enough, and it's nowhere close to even average. The Cowboys are on a train to nowhere, and the blame falls on the coaches leading it."

Bayern Munich has made progress towards generating income from its campus this summer, with multiple sales of academy talents contributing to Bayern's overall summer transfer income — estimated at over €50M, per Transfermarkt.
It has been called the 'summer of the century' by Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß, according to an interview he gave to Kicker. However, the Bavarians are naturally hoping for more first team-ready products to emerge for themselves, to follow in the recent examples of Aleksandar Pavlović and Lennart Karl.
Via Kicker journalist Frank Linkesch, as captured by iMiaSanMia:
Speaking to kicker, Uli Hoeneß says he's very happy with the funds the club managed to raise in the summer by selling Campus players. Hoeneß has even called it "summer of the century", saying that when the Campus was established, he was thinking more about producing players for the first team than generating transfer revenue from sales.
Hoeneß calls the resulting income "a nice side effect," adding that the academy has long since paid for itself. And in an era of exorbitant salaries, it can also help ease the financial burden on the first-team budget.

Andoni Iraola has admitted Liverpool will be without Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong "for some time" after both were forced off with hamstring injuries in Saturday's 2-1 win at Brentford.
Vice-captain Szoboszlai, who had missed Liverpool's previous two matches with the same problem, was replaced after 32 minutes at the Gtech Community Stadium. Frimpong came on at half-time but lasted just six minutes before limping off.
Both players will undergo scans to determine the extent of the damage.
Iraola explained that a tight turnaround from Wednesday'sChampions League trip to LASK in Austria had left him with difficult selection calls.
"We had a very delicate situation coming back from playing Champions League away (against LASK in Austria) on Wednesday, arriving back late at night and probably not a proper chance of recovery. So you are in doubt between (selecting) the players who have already started two games and are very tired or the players who are recovering from injuries on whom you are not 100 per cent sure."

Calls for Mike McDaniels' job are only getting louder.
This time, though, Jim Harbaugh wasn't as strong in his defense of his offensive coordinator.
Harbaugh, after the Los Angeles Chargers fell 22-6 to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, said that they are going to "have to address everything, and especially offensively." The loss knocked them to 0-6 on the season, which marks their worst start since 2000. Coincidentally, Harbaugh was on that Chargers team as a player that finished 1-15 that season.
And when asked about McDaniel directly and if he was going to keep calling plays, Harbaugh said they were "going to look at everything."
"The job I'm doing, it starts with me. We'll watch this and get with our offensive coaches," Harbaugh said, via ESPN. "I see the effort, I see the work being put in in the meetings, on the practice field, and to get that to translate to the field is what's necessary. Feel bad for our players, our team, our coaches, our fans. And [offense] needs to be addressed."

Fans question NFL's roughing-the-passer rules after controversial calls against Packers, Chiefs originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Roughing-the-passer has always proved to be a sore subject for NFL fans. That fact resurfaced once more in Week 6.
Some might consider the penalty, ushered in to protect passers from sustaining major injuries, as a godsend. Others view it more negatively, believing it should be reformed to prevent honest defenders from coming under its wretched glare.
Regardless of where you stand on the debate, it's clear that many don't believe slight contact should come under its purview. Someone appeared to inform some of the NFL's referees, however.
Here's what you need to know.

After their loss to the Cardinals, Stafford shared where he felt things went wrong for them in this one.
"They did a good job executing their plan. Had some success a little bit in the second half and had some opportunities to give ourselves a chance there late and didn't come up with it," Stafford said via Mykell Mathieu on X, formerly Twitter.

Ryan Anderson didn't believe Gypsy Rose Blanchard's former fiancé, Ken Urker, was dead until a friend sent him the report.
"My initial thought was shock, of course, like how'd that happen?" Anderson, her ex-husband, said on the Oct. 2 episode of The Sarah Fraser Show.
Urker, who was also the father of Blanchard's daughter, was found dead on his 34th birthday a day earlier—and Anderson said the news sent him looking for a way to check on the woman he had not spoken to in roughly a year.

Anderson and Urker had their own history, and little of it was friendly. They never met face-to-face, he said, but had exchanged phone calls and text messages that "were never good."

Much of President Donald Trump's second term has focused on changes to the nation's capital.
But his ambitions to remake the physical architecture of the presidency transcend Washington: Trump wants to transform his West Palm Beach golf club into a presidential retreat modeled after Camp David.
Subscribe to The Post Most newsletter for the most important and interesting stories from The Washington Post.
The plan calls for a parcel of the private club to be designated a permanent, official sanctuary for foreign leaders and future U.S. presidents, designed to host international summits and house presidents when they take vacations in Florida, according to a proposal presented to Palm Beach County officials by Trump International Golf Club's legal counsel. Future presidents would also be offered comped memberships to the Trump club.
"Just as Camp David, Windsor Castle, or the Elysee Palace are known worldwide, so too will the Presidential Golf Course in Palm Beach County," Harvey Oyer, a lawyer representing the Trump course, wrote to the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners in a letter last month. Oyer asked the county, which owns the property the course is on, to provide a piece of the land to the federal government, and he promised Trump would pay for the construction of a presidential residence and facilities on that land.

America's older households sit on nearly $140 trillion in wealth, and much of it showed up recently.
Households age 55 and over held around three-quarters of the nation's total net worth in the second quarter of 2026, according to an Oct. 1 report from Bank of America Institute, based on ******* ysis of Federal Reserve data. "With equity markets rising strongly," wrote senior economist David Michael Tinsley, those households have seen "a more than 20% increase in their net worth over the past two years."
That rally has run on AI. The Magnificent Seven accounted for more than half of the S&P 500's gains last year, Fortune reported in April, and Goldman Sachs strategists found technology stocks drove 85% of the index's return through mid-May this year. "AI-driven return has been the single most important structural driver of equity performance," Capgemini's Luca Russignan told Yahoo Finance in June. Boomers own 54% of all U.S. stocks.
That's a lopsided split. Americans 55 and over make up about 31% of the population, according to Census Bureau estimates, but control roughly 75% of its net worth.
The pile gives many older Americans what the institute calls "considerable capacity to spend on travel and other leisure categories." Add their growing share of the population and their extra free time, and they become an increasingly influential market for businesses chasing consumer dollars. The BofA report focused mainly on the economic implications of a growing mass of older consumers, but the generational wealth composition was striking.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Most Federal Reserve officials expect that another interest rate increase will likely be needed this year to combat inflation, according to minutes released Wednesday from the central bank's most recent meeting.
The officials unanimously agreed that inflation was still elevated and had not made much progress toward their 2% target in recent months, the minutes said. The Fed increased its key interest rate at the Sept. 15-16 meeting by a quarter-point to about 3.9%, its first increase in three years.
The increase defied President Donald Trump's repeated calls for the Fed to cut rates and prompted the president to criticize the Fed's rate-setting committee, though he still expressed support for Chairman Kevin Warsh, whom he appointed earlier this year. The rate increase comes as Americans are already struggling with high costs for groceries, gas and housing, and as affordability has taken on a leading role in the upcoming midterm elections, just seven weeks away.
Longer-term interest rates for mortgages and other borrowing have also jumped in the past few months for a range of reasons, including rising government debt, heavy borrowing by tech firms to finance data center construction, climbing oil and gas prices, and signs that growth and inflation remain elevated. The Fed's rate hike has likely played only a limited role in the increase.
Still, key policymakers have said since the meeting that the Fed can take some time to monitor the economy and the impact of last month's rate hike before making another move. Wall Street investors now forecast the Fed will keep its rate unchanged at its next meeting Oct. 28-29, according to futures pricing, and raise it when they meet in December.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Communications Commission is considering a request by a conservative group to loosen rules on political robocalls, including those with artificial intelligence-generated voices, before November's midterm elections.
Federal law currently bans most robocalls to cellphones unless the caller gets consent beforehand. The petition calls for a waiver that would allow political groups to use artificial or prerecorded voices in unsolicited wireless calls.
The Republican-led FCC advanced the request for public comment and could rule on it as soon as late October.
Consumer advocacy groups warn the proposed change could trigger a surge of unwanted, partisan and potentially misleading automated calls in the critical final days of the election, which will determine which party controls Congress for the final two years of President Donald Trump's term.
The potential perils became evident two years ago during the presidential primary season when thousands of voters in New Hampshire received a robocall with an AI-generated voice of then-President Joe Biden. The call suggested voters should forgo casting a ballot in the primary and "save" their votes for the general election.

Mike Tindall takes a surprisingly formal approach when addressing his mother-in-law, Princess Anne. The former professional rugby player is married to the royal's daughter, Zara Tindall, and while most husbands refer to their mothers-in-law by their first name, he opts for a more traditional greeting.
When the 47-year-old appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain in 2024 with fellow former rugby pro James Haskell to chat about their podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, he explained about previously featured Princess Anne and the Prince and Princess of Wales as guests.

"They were amazing," Mike said of his in-laws before explaining why he wanted to bring them onto the podcast. "Rugby has been going through a tough time and we wanted to showcase why it brings people together from all backgrounds, it's such an inclusive sport, but it also creates great human beings," he said. "It was more important to showcase why they like sport, why Princess Anne has been a patron of [the Scottish Rugby Union] for 37 years and why she loves the characters in the game.
