The top high school athletic program in the country resides in Central Indiana.
That is the ****** ysis of MaxPreps, which ranked Carmel as the No. 1 athletic program in the country by its metrics for the 2025-26 school year. The Greyhounds finished with 2,906 points in the MaxPreps Cup standings to rank No. 1. Carmel finished 164 points ahead of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the second school on the list.

Jul. 23— On Wednesday the Meadow Greens — Ramsey Ladies Golf Club held their "Mid-Summer Slump" tournament. The round was a basic 18-hole low-gross, low-net game. Handicaps were taken off at the end of the round.
The low-gross winner with a score of 87 was Chris Swatfager. First low-net was Pat Busker with a 72, second low-net was Nancy Wesely shooting a 73, third low-net went to Mary Jo Swoboda with a 74, fourth low-net with a score of 75 was Carmel Taylor, and fifth low-net went to Joyce Anderson with a 76.

Nebraska commit Trae Taylor continues to collect accolades heading into his senior season. MaxPreps released its list for the top 10 quarterbacks heading into the season, placing Taylor in third.
Taylor earned the consensus No. 1 quarterback spot in the 2027 class and 98 rating, according to 247Sports. Nationally, he is ranked eighth as an overall recruit. The five-star quarterback earned each mark following a strong junior campaign at Carmel Catholic High School in Illinois.
Taylor put together a strong junior campaign for the Corsairs, throwing 205-for-251 for 3,571 yards and 38 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 633 yards and 12 touchdowns on 77 runs and guided Carmel Catholic to an 8-3 record and an Illinois Class 7A playoff win.
Taylor also earned MVP in both the Elite 11 and The Opening Finals during this offseason and now enters his senior season at Millard South High School in Nebraska. He takes the helm under center for the Patriots after the team finished 12-1 this past season and won back-to-back Class A State championships. Taylor is taking over as the starting quarterback, replacing Jett Thomalla, who is now at Alabama.

During his only season in college, Meleek Thomas was an impressive scorer with 15.6 points per game. Of course, he was overshadowed by Darius Acuff Jr., his backcourt partner who ended up being a lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Unfortunately for Thomas, he did not have the same experience because he fell all the way down to the second round. Thomas was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 34th overall pick, which is turning out to be one of the biggest steals of the draft, especially after Thomas' impressive showing at NBA Summer League, where he caught a lot of people's attention.
Across four Summer League games for the Cavaliers, Thomas became a member of the All-Summer League First Team alongside the likes of fellow rookies Caleb Wilson, Cameron Boozer, Brayden Burries, and Yaxel Lendeborg.
In fact, Thomas was the leading scorer in Las Vegas, as he averaged 27.3 points per game to go along with a decent 3.5 rebounds, 3.8 **** ists, and two steals per game. Considering he was a second-round pick, standing alongside all those lottery picks was impressive for a 19-year-old guard.

Notre Dame has done a great job recruiting Illinois, as it just landed Mount Carmel powerhouse linebacker Roman Igwebuike.
The Irish have missed on other targets, some of them his teammates, and are after another Chicagoland star in Brayden Parks. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 305-pound defensive tackle is ranked as the No. 199 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite and for many has seemed like a Notre Dame lean.
That might not be the case anymore, as On3’s Steve Wiltfong reports (subscription required) that Parks might be higher on Oregon than the Irish. “I believe that if it were completely up to four-star defensive tackle Brayden Parks, the Chicagoland standout would also elect to play for Oregon. He’s also high on Notre Dame but he seems to be even more excited about the Ducks.” Not the best news, but there are other factors in his recruitment, most notably his family.
Wiltfong also says that his family loves what the Irish have to offer, and the proximity to home so they’d be able to see him play more often. As this recruitment continues, farther away from official visits, it looks like Notre Dame has lost some steam. Hopefully they can regain it back before Parks makes his final decision.

Due to a quad injury suffered during the beginning of training camp, the Wurzburg, Germany native missed the start of the 2025-26 season.

WWE have lost some big names over the last few years and it looks set to continue with the departure of a former WWE and Heavyweight champion.
With so many young stars in the company now, it’s becoming even harder for some of the mainstays and mid-carders to keep their spot within the roster.
The likes of Carmelo Hayes, Jevon Evans, and Trick Williams are very much the future of WWE, while top stars like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk are going nowhere fast.

The Philadelphia 76ers pulled off the stunner of the offseason when they found a way to acquire Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics by giving up Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks. When considering the season Brown just had, as well as his overall resume, one would have thought that Philadelphia would probably have to give up more than just that package in a deal.
Brown, obviously, had a weird ending to his 10-year career with the Celtics. He, obviously, had a ******* uva season, but his name was squarely in trade talks for Boston to chase Giannis Antetokounmpo. When those talks failed, it appeared the Celtics didn't want to deal with the possibility of a slighted Brown.
It's the return Boston got for one of the premier players was a bit underwhelming, however, and that's what Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony is focused on:

Next month, Minotaur Books will publish the private detective mystery Killer Vibes by Jack Friday–or as readers will recognize him, John Fram. Fram burst onto the literary scene in 2020 with his acclaimed novel, The Bright Lands, followed by No Road Home, and most recently The Midnight Knock; he's made a name for himself crafting queer horror novels that deliver mind bending thrills and nuanced character studies. Fram's newest endeavor is in the crime fiction **** e and that shift, in part, inspired the author to write under a nom de plume: Jack Friday. Killer Vibes is the first in what will be a series that centers on Peter Key, a bisexual stoner who inherits a home from an uncle he barely knew, only to find out that his death was probably not an accident. "He starts to poke into the case and attracts some very dangerous people, but he also makes a lot of really cool new friends, including a private investigator," Fram tells me. "By the end of the novel, Peter has gone through a lot of scrapes but he has come out a detective. He's realized that he finally has something that he's really good at and loves to do."
Ahead of Killer Vibes' release, I caught up with Fram to talk about his decision to write under a pen name, telling queer, Southern stories, and what fans of Fram–and Friday–can look forward to in this book and beyond.
Caroline Reilly: What made you decide to write your next book under a pen name?
John Fram: I think that for me it was a matter of making sure people had the right expectations going into the book. I didn't want to alienate my horror readers with something that's not a horror novel. There's nothing supernatural in Killer Vibes. So on the one hand, it was making sure people who have read my previous work knew what they were getting into. Secondly–I remember once reading a review of my book and there was a comment on it where this lady said, "I've always been interested in this author, but I'm too scared to read horror." And that was always in my head, I thought, the fact that one person has said this means there's other people who maybe feel this way. Let me give them something wh

Some of the NBA’s future stars will know their fate on Tuesday as the 2026 NBA Draft begins live from the Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets.
The Washington Wizards, who reportedly intend to sign guard Trae Young to a four-year deal worth around $212 million, have the No. 1 overall selection as they look to advance to the postseason for the first time since 2021. The Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Clippers round out the top five overall picks.
The two-day NBA Draft, which starts tonight and continues Wednesday evening, starts at 8 p.m. ET both days exclusively across ESPN platforms. Tuesday’s first-round coverage is on ABC and ESPN, while tomorrow’s broadcast of the second round is solely on ESPN.

Gunther lost to Cody Rhodes in their ***** le match last week on Friday Night Smackdown. Even with Sami Zayn as the referee, Gunther could not take advantage of any opportunity, leading to a loss for the Ring General. I’m hoping Gunther can now be fazed out of this spotlight, so we don’t have to see him as much.
Bron Breakker interfered in Je’Von Evans and Austin Theory’s match last week, after Evans turned down Logan Paul’s offer to join the Vision. After the melee, it was the Street Profits who made my evening up with the numbers. Going forward, it’s nice to see all of these wrestlers getting on TV time, while the WWE gears up for Night of Champions.
Trick Williams defeated Carmelo Hayes in their U.S Championship match on Smackdown last week. Of course, there were some shenanigans from Ricky Saints, but Williams prevailed in the end. Going forward, I can see a Triple-Threat Match for the ***** le, one last time, but after that, I want a new dog on the hunt for Summerslam.

There are some quiet weeks once the equipment is handed in after the final game, but there really is no offseason in football. Weight rooms have been hubs of activity for months and on Wednesday a dozen teams took part in the Mahopac Football Passing Scrimmages. For the last six years it's been a place to make valuable connections.
Arlington, Carmel, Fox Lane, Harrison, John Jay-Cross River, John Jay-East Fishkill, Lakeland, Mahopac, New Rochelle, Panas, Rye and Somers all took part.
Mahopac will also be hosting two sessions of the Block & Tackle High School Camp, June 30-July 2 and July 20-23.

WEST LAFAYETTE − Purdue football's expanding 2027 class includes wrestling an offensive lineman away from a Big 12 program.
Mount Carmel (Chicago) product Chase Clark was committed to Oklahoma State but has flipped his verbal commitment to Purdue, first reported by Greg Smith of Rivals.
Clark, listed on Mount Carmel's roster at 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, is a three-star recruit who also has an offer from Oregon State and 19 other non-Power 4 programs.
It continues the Boilermakers' emphasis of revamping the offensive line under new position coach Zach Crabtree.

Bloomington South's seniors went out on a high note at the IHSAA boys golf state tournament at Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel on Wednesday, June 17.
Colton Watson, coming off a 1-under 71, fired a 75 to find a spot in the top 10, and Carson Gady had a career-best round at state of 73, as the Panthers settled for a tie for 11th after a second-round 314, four shots better than Round 1.
Watson earned All-State honors after tying for ninth at 146, joining Happy Gilmore (144, tied for seventh in 2023 and 150, tied for eighth in 2021) and Joe Weiler (145, ninth in 2016) as the only top-10 Panthers since Kyle Perry (139) was third in 2007.

Watson was even through the first 11 holes before being bitten by three bogeys down the stretch. He finished just four strokes off the top spot. Watson, who shot 157s the past two years at state, was 45th last year, 39th as a sophomore and 75th as a freshman at state.

The Elkhart High School boys golf team turned in the top first-round showing among a quartet of area teams Tuesday.
Coach Todd King's Lions sit in 10th place after the opening day of the IHSAA State Finals at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel Tuesday.
Elkhart shot a team total of 316.
Center Grove paced the 18-team field with a three-over par total of 291. Center Grove finished in seventh place in the state finals a year ago. Defending state champion Westfield was second at 295 with Castle third at 297.

The New York Knicks aren’t just NBA champions, they’re a lesson in perseverance. Proof positive why you should never quit on your team, no matter how dark it gets, no matter how bleak the future seems, no matter how much an owner tries to push you away. James Dolan’s name might be on the papers, but Saturday night proved that the Knicks don’t belong to him — they belong to New York.
It’s impossible not to love the scenes from New York following the Knicks’ breaking their 53-year championship drought. Did the celebration go too far? Sure. Did it turn the streets into anarchy? Absolutely. Did it closely resemble the Joker’s clown parade in Batman Returns? It sure did. It was also magical, inspiring, and reminded us how powerful sports can be, even as we become jaded in the face of ticket scalpers, political movements, and greedy owners who put their own motivations ahead of a city. When the dust settles, it’s about simply this: A small group of individuals who came together as a team, to bring joy to millions who have invested their heart and souls into loving a team their entire lives. People who said “this could be our year” more times than they could count, and when it comes to the NBA there is not a single more passionate, longer-suffering fanbase than the New York Knicks.
No doubt there would have been joy in San Antonio too, but it would have hit different. All due respect to Spurs fans, but even y’all have to admit that your franchise has had a horseshoe lodged up your derriere for the better part of 30 years. From drafting Tim Duncan during David Robinson’s ONE injury year to winning the Wemby sweepstakes, it just wouldn’t have been satisfying to see another Spurs win. Moreover, San Antonio is a competent, sensible organization run like a successful business — it’s not the Knicks, where fans have had to endure James Dolan’s whims at every turn, doing his level best to destroy the organization from within while playing a piano solo in his nepo band.
Dolan and the Knicks have given fans HUNDREDS of reasons to pack it in over the years. I don’t know how Spike Lee managed to endure the pain for as long as he did — but not just the pain, the promise. The possibility that Patrick Ewing, and John Starks would win a **** le, then if Stephon Marbury and Allan Houston could get the job done, then Carmelo, Amare, and J.R. Smith. Fans continually experience the yo-yo whiplash of made that make them believe, before seeing opportunity get yanked away, like a cat toy from a desperate tabby. They’ve seen brilliant teams under the guidance of Jeff Van Gundy, Mike D’Antoni, and Tom Thibodeau all establish specific eras of Knicks disappointment, which makes it all the more magical right now.
This Knicks team was so decidedly un-Knicks. Jalen Brunson is obviously a superstar, but this team was defined by doubt, not promise. **** ody believed Karl-Anthony Towns was good enough to be a focal point, Mickal Bridges was an overpaid addition; heck, Mike Brown wa

Wisconsin landed an early building block on the defensive front with a deal from Darin Graham, a 2027 edge rusher from Mount Carmel in Illinois. Graham checked in at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds and committed as a high three-star prospect, giving the Badgers a long-limbed pass-rush athlete to grow into the program’s next wave of outside pressure.
Graham picked Wisconsin over a list that included Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, and Minnesota, showcasing the kind of regional and national battle the Badgers expect for high-upside defensive linemen. Illinois recruiting has long mattered in Madison, and Graham adds another Chicago-area pipeline target who fits the Big Ten’s need for length and physicality on the edge.
The scouting profile points to upside first. Graham already owns a big frame that should carry more weight as he develops, and that combination of size and athletic potential gives Wisconsin a chance to mold him into an every-down edge defender who can impact both the run game and the pocket. At 220 pounds, he projects as a player who can add strength while keeping the burst that makes him intriguing as a pass rusher.
Wisconsin’s staff will spend the next two cycles stacking the 2027 class, and Graham’s commitment sets a indication for what the Badgers want off the edge. The next thing to watch is whether Wisconsin can turn this early pledge into momentum with more 2027 defensive front targets.

After landing three-star edge rusher/defensive lineman Yahzeen Zion on Saturday, the Wisconsin Badgers got another key commitment at the position on Sunday, as three-star Darin Graham committed to the program.
Graham, a native of Illinois, stands 6'5, 220 pounds, and hails from Mount Carmel, which is where the Badgers got running back Darrion Dupree from in the 2024 class.
The three-star edge rusher was a part of Wisconsin's first group of official visitors last weekend, but left campus without announcing his commitment.
The two other top suitors here were Ole Miss, which was expected to get an official visit this weekend, and Purdue, but Graham elected to shut down his commitment this weekend and committed to the Badgers on Sunday.
He caps off quite the weekend for outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell, who now has a loaded room with Graham and Zion (if he sticks at edge) joining three-star in-state recruit Isaac Miller.

Fat Joe arrived with a message for a fan base that spent much of the last two decades directing its frustrations at Knicks owner James Dolan.

Carmel had secured its second consecutive outdoor state track and field **** le. It’s the second season in a row where they clinched state **** les in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
“Honestly, we were just already celebrating before they even announced it, just taking it all in,” said Carmel senior Sadie Foley. “For the seniors, it’s the last one and really just enjoying the moment (and) living in it. This doesn’t happen very often, it’s really special.”
With the state trophy centered in frame, the Greyhounds sat on the state podium and posed for a group photo. A year removed from clinching their first state **** le since 1999, the Greyhounds basked in championship glory again on Friday.
