The move followed the Colts' 41-23 loss at home to Baltimore in Sunday's season opener. Edwards didn't play against the Ravens, and was among six Colts players declared inactive for Week 1. Indianapolis promoted Kenneth Harris from the practice squad prior to the game, with Harris then occupying Edwards' special teams roles.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound Edwards was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent May 9, 2025.
As a rookie, Edwards played in 14 games (with five starts) and registered 24 tackles (18 solo), three passes defensed and two special teams stops.

The Kansas City Chiefs have released their list of inactive players for the season opener of "Monday Night Football" against the Denver Broncos.
The Chiefs will play without safety Chamarri Conner (knee), offensive tackles Josh Simmons (back) and Diego Pounds, defensive tackle Bryson Eason, tight end Jared Wiley and defensive end Jack Pyburn. Rookie Garrett Nussmeier has been designated as Kansas City's emergency quarterback — meaning he is only eligible to enter the game should both starter Patrick Mahomes and backup Justin Fields leave with injuries.
This appears to be the first time Kansas City has named an emergency quarterback since the rule was created in 2023.
Kansas City had already ruled Conner and Simmons out on the final injury report. Defensive tackle Chris Jones was held out of the team's final practice with a calf issue, but he was not given an injury game status. As expected, Jones is active for the contest.

The Denver Broncos have announced their list of six inactive players for a Monday Night Football showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1.
Broncos quarterback Sam Ehlinger, running back Tyler Badie, offensive lineman Kage Casey, tight end Dallen Bentley, defensive end Jordan Jackson and defensive lineman Tyler Onyedim are inactive tonight. With the exception of Ehlinger, those players won't suit up for the game. Ehlinger will still dress as the team's emergency third-string quarterback.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons' opening loss at Pittsburgh only added more uncertainty to the quarterback question that has persisted since the start of training camp.
Cooper Rush's performance in the Falcons' 20-13 loss to the Steelers on Sunday had some fans wondering why undrafted rookie Jack Strand wasn't given an opportunity and more fans asking when Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa will be ready to play. Rush threw two interceptions, including T.J. Watt's pick-6 in the fourth quarter. He completed 12 of 22 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Rush was named the starter on Friday after Tagovailoa was ruled out with an oblique injury. Rush started despite having back spasms on Saturday. Coach Kevin Stefanski said Rush was close to full health, but the conservative game plan with an emphasis on short passes placed too much of a burden on running back Bijan Robinson.
Stefanski said Monday he had no update on Tagovailoa or on Penix, who did not play in the preseason as he continues his recovery from a torn ligament in his left knee that ended his 2025 season. Penix was cleared for full team drills late in training camp.
Both Tagovailoa and Penix were inactive against the Steelers, and it is not known if either will return for next Sunday's home opener against Carolina.

The Colts signed Edwards as a UDFA after the 2025 NFL draft. He would make the Colts' 53-man roster as a rookie and appeared in 14 games, which included five starts.
Edwards flashed his upside and potential here and there, but he was also quite inconsistent as well. During his rookie season, Edwards allowed 17 completions on 27 targets, giving up almost 15 yards per catch.
In the preseason this summer, things didn't get much better. Edwards allowed a completion rate of 60% on 10 targets, while surrendering a hefty 19.3 yards per catch, with only one pass breakup over two games.

It's the eve of the Washington Commanders' season opener, so they have made a roster move.
It's not unusual for the Commanders, or the other 31 NFL teams, to make a roster move or two the day before a game. As the season progresses, you will notice these are often injury-related, where the Commanders will elevate a player from the practice squad to the active roster to fill in for an injured player who is going to be inactive on game day.
In this case, the Commanders just released offensive tackle D.J. Humphries on Friday. Thus, Washington announced Saturday it is elevating C/G Julian Good-Jones (JGJ) from the practice squad for Sunday's 2026 opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cleveland Browns are set to kick off their 2026 regular season Sunday afternoon when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road. The team announced on Friday that they would be starting two rookies on their offensive line, ruling out Teven Jenkins and announcing that third-round pick Austin Barber would get the start at right guard.
Cleveland is also calling up two players from its practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's game, elevating linebacker Nathaniel Watson and cornerback D'Angelo Ross. ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi reports that both elevations are special teams-related, which makes sense, as both have clear skill sets to contribute in that area of the game.
It will be interesting to see who ends up on the inactive list after these elevations; we know at least one of them is already Tevin Jenkins. Todd Monken talked about having all three quarterbacks active to use a package for rookie Taylen Green, which will be something to watch as kickoff gets closer.

It's the news that seemed expected after the Tua Tagovailoa practice video on Thursday: Cooper Rush will step up and start on Sunday for the Atlanta Falcons as they face the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The tough part in fantasy football is that there's so much talent on the Falcons' roster. Michael Penix Jr. will be inactive, so it was going to be Tagovailoa tossing the ball to Kyle Pitts, Drake London and beyond. Now, it'll be Rush.

The Los Angeles Rams time in Melbourne, Australia was short-lived and that might be for the best as LA suffered a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night (Friday morning for others). Some might question the Rams decision to fly in the day before the game, although that did not seem to be a significant influence on the outcome in my opinion. Why did the Rams lose? Well here are 4 takeaways from Los Angeles's week one loss to their division rivals.
After picking off a Brock Purdy pass, Stafford turned the ball back over to the San Francisco 49ers on 3rd & 10 from the SF 35. Instead of taking his underneath option (Terrance Ferguson), Stafford tried to force a pass on a deep corner to Puka Nacua. The ball was underthrown; giving SF momentum and taking 3 points off the board for LA. Had the Rams kicked the field goal on 4th down, they would have had a 10-3 lead.
The other self-inflicted mistake was the turnover on downs with 3:46 left in the 3rd quarter. The Rams could not punch the ball in the endzone from 2nd, 3rd, and 4th & Goal (all within the 3 yard line). The latter being 4th & 1/2 yard. Those are simply must-have situations when down 10.
The Rams allowed 30 rushing attempts for 174 yards (5.8 yards per carry). The Rams won't beat a Kyle Shanahan offense with that type of formula. No, it wasn't because Aaron Donald was inactive. The Rams simply did not win the trenches getting pushed off the ball. Chris Shula will need to take a deep look at how to counter the 49ers usage of chips on his edge players as Myles Garrett was a non-factor in rushing the passer but also in defending the run.
The Rams offense was one of the best in 2025 because they were constantly in favorable down & distances. In this game against the 49ers, their 3rd down distances were: 5 yards, 2 yards, 6 yards, 10 yards, 13 yards, 1 yard, 2 yards, 15 yards, and 10 yards. The only true conversion was on 3rd & 2 via a Kyren Williams run. The other conversion was via defensive pass interference call late in the game.

The 49ers having only two running backs active suggests Deebo Samuel will play a pivotal role out of the backfield. Expect him to be an option still in the passing game, but it likely comes from the running back alignment. If anybody knows how to take on a heavier workload against the Rams, it's Deebo.
It's also a sign that the team is comfortable giving Kaelon black touches. Kyle Shanahan said this past offseason that he regrets not involving more running backs last season. It means you're taking Christian McCaffrey off the field, so it's understandable. Still, the goal is to keep McCaffrey fresh for the last stretch of the season.
With Watkins inactive, Mike Evans, De'Zhaun Stribling, Demarcus Robinson, Jacob Cowing, and KhaDarel Hodge are the wideouts. If Samuel's role is more underneath, we'll see whether that means Cowing has a role as the receiver who stretches the field for the offense.

Tagovailoa bent over in obvious discomfort after throwing a pass during a portion of practice open to media and grabbed his right side. He dropped to the ground for a few seconds before getting up and trying to shake off the injury.
It's unclear if he returned to practice. The Falcons listed him as a limited participant.
Tagovailoa's first game with the Falcons is at Pittsburgh on Sunday. It's the same spot where he made the last start of his rocky final season with Miami.
Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski announced Monday that Tagovailoa will open the season as the starter and Michael Penix Jr. will be inactive. Cooper Rush will be the backup.

New England Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson might in line to start the regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, Sept. 9, as RB TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) remains sidelined.
Truth be told, Stevenson might have started anyway, but now he could see a lion's share of the carries, with only first-year RB Corey Kiner as the other active running back on the 53-man roster.
Henderson has been unable to practice since Aug. 24 due to an ankle injury, and his status for Week 1 is seriously in doubt. In Week 1 of the 2025 season, Stevenson played 46 snaps to just 25 for Henderson, and Stevenson sees more playing time because of his ability to pick up the blitz, and the coaching staff's confidence in his doing so.

In each of the past two seasons, Kayshon Boutte ranked second in receiving yards among Patriots wideouts and first or tied for first in receiving touchdowns. His reward? A trade to Houston.
The Patriots traded for A.J. Brown in the offseason, signed free agent Romeo Doubs and brought back DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Mack Hollins. That left Boutte as the odd receiver out, and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said in explaining the trade that Boutte "probably would have been inactive" on game days if he had remained in New England.
Boutte responded Thursday.
"They did pay two guys to come in and do that job," Boutte said, via Timothy Rapp of the Bleacher Report. "Sadly, it is the way it is. Being that it's a contract year for me, I [sought] a bigger role. I feel like what Vrabes said in his media interview, it wasn't nothing bad. I wouldn't say I'll use that as fuel. . . . It was an honest opinion. He sat there, talked, [spoke] his truth, and [we'll] pretty much move forward from it."
The Texans needed a receiver after losing Jayden Higgins to a season-ending torn ACL last month. Boutte, who has 76 receptions for 1,140 yards and nine touchdowns over the past two seasons, joins Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jared Wayne in the wide receivers room.

One of the surprise decisions during roster cutdown day for the Jacksonville Jaguars was the team's decision to release cornerback Jabbar Muhammad.
Dating back to offseason programs, Muhammad was often a standout performer. This included coming away with a game-winning pass breakup in the preseason opener against New Orleans.
However, instead of rostering Muhammad, the Jaguars chose to keep Christian Braswell, who, at least defensively, didn't seem to stand out as frequently.
So what was the reasoning behind this decision? Well, as GM James Gladstone explained on Tuesday, Braswell's ability to contribute on special teams was a differentiator.
"I think there's tough dynamics with a lot of these decisions," Gladstone said. "Christian's been there, done that. Has a notable role on special teams come game day and you talk about actives versus inactives and what it is that is going to differentiate guys."

The Washington Commanders have until 6:00 p.m. Sunday to trim their roster from 90 to 53 players. The work has already begun, as Washington reportedly released five players on Saturday.
Of the first five moves, none were surprises. Washington released two safeties, two linebackers and an offensive lineman. The Commanders are deep at the first two positions, and Nicholas Petit-Frere, the offensive lineman released, was always a long shot when he signed during training camp.
Washington made its most surprising cut last week, releasing veteran safety Will Harris. However, if you'd been to Commanders training camp or watched Harris in action, it wasn't much of a surprise. He had struggled. His release likely means Washington is set at safety with Nick Cross, Jeremy Reaves, Quan Martin, Tyler Owens and Percy Butler.
Speaking of surprise cuts, could the Commanders move on from 2024 third-round pick Luke McCaffrey? Washington had six receivers inactive for the preseason finale at Baltimore on Friday, which usually indicates a player is safe. Two players competing for a spot at receiver, McCaffrey and Van Jefferson, were active. What does it mean? It means McCaffrey isn't 100% safe, despite a solid training camp.

The Houston Texans traded for Kayshon Boutte this week with hopes that he will be a solid No. 2 receiver for them behind Nico Collins. That's why it was a little shocking to hear Mike Vrabel say Thursday night that if the New England Patriots hadn't dealt Boutte, he likely wouldn't have seen the field for them because of their improved depth at the position.
Boutte's 33 receptions last season was fifth on the Patriots squad, although two of the players ahead of him were tight end Hunter Henry and running back TreVeyon Henderson. His 551 yards was third on the team and his six touchdown catches was second. Still, in the offseason, the Patriots traded for three-time Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Brown and signed former Packers receiver A.J. Doubs as a free agent. Those two are going to be New England's top options at receiver with DeMario Douglas also expected to get plenty of time. The backups are Mack Hollins and Kyle Williams, who both play special teams, something Boutte hasn't done since he entered the league in 2023.
"It was one place where we do have some depth," Vrabel told reporters after the Patriots' final preseason game Thursday night. "I think for all parties involved, that was probably the best thing. Without injuries, Kayshon probably would've been inactive, unfortunately. Just kind of the way it was with him not playing special teams."
The Texans traded a 2028 seventh-round pick and second-year safety Jaylen Reed for Boutte earlier this week, a few days after losing their No. 2 receiver Jayden Higgins to injury.

At least, that's what Mike Vrabel alluded to when speaking with reporters after Thursday's 37-13 preseason loss to the Cleveland Browns, which marked the first time he held a press conference since the trade was announced.
Despite his comments about the team lacking depth, he made sure to highlight that receiver was not a position he included in that group.
"That was one place where we do have some depth, and I think for all parties involved, that was probably the best thing," Vrabel said. "Without injuries, Kayshon probably would have been inactive. Unfortunately, it just, it's kind of the way it was. It's just with him not playing special teams.
"And I tried to thank Kayshon as many times I could. I texted him again today. It's just his maturity, his growth, his ability to put into words last year and share his own personal struggle, but also the growth that he made from that. That's positively going to affect a lot of people. And I know that that wasn't easy for him to do, and I tell him all the time about how much I respect him for being able to do that."

Had Kayshon Boutte remained on the Patriots' roster for Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, he would have been inactive.
Head coach Mike Vrabel revealed that detail Thursday night, speaking for the first time since Boutte was traded to the Houston Texans on Monday.

As Vrabel noted, New England's wide receiver room is the deepest position on the roster, with A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism. All six are expected to be on the team's 53-man roster.
The Patriots added both Brown and Doubs to the mix this offseason, pushing Boutte down the depth chart. Vrabel made sure to show appreciation for Boutte, as he often did throughout last season.

The Miami Dolphins on Thursday traded Tutu Atwell to the Los Angeles Rams, returning the wide receiver to the team that selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After four seasons with the Rams, Atwell had signed as a free agent on a one year contract with Miami this offseason but he was struggling to find a ******* e on Miami's depth chart. He will now return to the Rams.
In return, the Dolphins received running back Jacquez Hunter. A 2025 fourth-round pick, Hunter played special teams for the Rams last year, appearing in five games early in the season before spending the final 11 games of the year inactive.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the trade.
Atwell was expected to provide a veteran presence in the wide receiver room, where Miami is relying on several rookies, but he was never able to find a chemistry with quarterback Malik Willis and was sliding closer and closer to the cut line.
Veteran wide receiver Jalen Tolbert, who signed as a free agent this year, is set to fill the role Atwell was attempting to hold this season. Rookie receivers Caleb Douglas (third-round draft pick), Chris Bell (third-round draft pick), and Kevin Coleman, Jr. (fifth-round draft pick), are all expected to see significant playing time during the season. Miami is also returning receiver Malik Washington, who appears to be entrenched as a starter.

Anthony Edwards has four children with four different women, with all four children born between September 2023 and October 2024. The latest ruling has prompted Edward to speak up, claiming he has never met the child.
