Coming off a walkthrough on Monday, the New England Patriots turned the tempo and intensity up a notch on Tuesday. The two-hour session behind Gillette Stadium was the most competitive so far this training camp, and quite an eventful one.

WR Kayshon Boutte: Boutte continues to make big plays on a daily basis. On Tuesday, his biggest moment came when he caught a deep touchdown from Drake Maye during 11-on-11s. Lining up in his typical spot as an X-receiver, the fourth-year man was able to get a step on safety Kevin Byard on a go route and showed some tremendous ball tracking and concentration skills to complete the over-the-shoulder catch for a score of 40-plus yards.
It was not Boutte's only reception on the day. He also caught a throw from Maye over the middle during 7-on-7s and added pair of catches when backup Tommy DeVito targeted him on out routes. It was an active day for a player who, through four practices, has been New England's most impactful wide receiver.
QB Drake Maye: The Patriots' quarterback started a bit slowly and his connection with A.J. Brown remains a work in progress, but he overall had a good day — an encouraging development after struggling with accuracy during the last full-speed practice on Sunday. Maye got into a rhythm during 11-on-11s, finding Boutte on his long touchdowns and also connecting with Hunter Henry and Rhamondre Stevenson for long completions.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass – After a slow day on Monday that consisted of just a walkthrough practice, the New England Patriots certainly ramped things up on Tuesday. The players took the field in shells, preparing for their first padded practice which is set for later this week.
And with that, those in attendance got their first look at the offense doing 7-on-7 drills as well as some time spent on 1-on-1s between the offensive and defensive lines.
With a higher-intensity practice comes lots more to talk about, so let's get into some takeaways:
The Patriots had three players depart practice early on Tuesday. First, it was starting cornerback Carlton Davis, who left after covering A.J. Brown during the 7-on-7 session. Kindle Vildor replaced him, and then Charles Woods. Then, when 11-on-11s began, it was Woods who was playing opposite Gonzalez, but he also left early. And lastly, there was Rhamondre Stevenson, who departed in the final minutes of practice.
Kayshon Boutte is unstoppable.

Whether Kayshon Boutte remains a New England Patriot or not, the 24-year-old wide receiver was present and accounted for at the start of training camp.
Boutte is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and there's still a chance that he winds up on the trade block at some point. His presence on the roster makes the team better, but it won't benefit him in the long run with his future contract tied to this season's production.
The best opportunity for Boutte would come in an offense where he'd see significant snaps and maximize his stat output. He won't have an opportunity to do that in New England, where A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs are expected to be the top receivers.
With that said, the Patriots aren't going to give Boutte away, either. NFL insider Albert Breer noted that he believed that the former LSU standout could have been had for a fifth-round draft pick during the 2026 NFL Draft. If that remains the case, a receiver-needy team could float the Patriots an offer at some point.
Until that happens, it looks like Boutte is in New England to stay.

The talent and depth at wide receiver and defensive line will make those groups exciting to watch for me. A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs building their chemistry with Drake Maye while Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, and Efton Chism III battle for their roles — as well as their potential futures in New England.
Then Milton Williams and Christian Barmore start year two together while Cory Durden, Leonard Taylor III, Joshua Farmer, Eric Gregory, Jeremiah Pharms, David Blay and Travis Shaw will be competing for depth roles.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has yet to throw for 400 yards in a game in his career to date, but he will have as good a chance as he's had yet to do so in 2026.
Maye threw for 4,394 yards in 2025, but the most yards he threw for in a single game was 380 yards in Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens. He did not record more than 294 yards in any other game of the season.
The UNC product had a season-high of 282 passing yards in 2024 as a rookie, making the 300-yard feat one that was a notable achievement for him last season. However, with A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs as his two go-to options at wide receiver for next season, the potential for him to hit that marker is strong.
Brown went for 1,000-yards receiving for the sixth time in his career in 2025 with 1,003 receiving yards, and Doubs went for 724 yards. Both are capable of stretching the field, and in the case of Brown, racking up yards after the catch. Not only that, but Hunter Henry is still in New England, as are Mack Hollins and Kayshon Boutte, giving Maye five options to spread the ball around to in the passing game next season.
If Maye can reach the mark, it's reasonable to envision the 23-year-old achieving the feat in Week 2 of next season against the Pittsburgh Steelers or in either of the Patriots' matchups against the Miami Dolphins in Week 8 or Week 18. The Steelers allowed the third-most passing yards in the NFL in 2025 with 4,437 yards, while the Dolphins allowed the highest completion rate to opposing quarterbacks at 72 percent.

The New England Patriots already made a trade for a star receiver this offseason, but a new trade idea from Bleacher Report would net them another one.
The Patriots moved on from Stefon Diggs to sign Romeo Doubs and acquire A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles. They have a crowded receiver room right now, and Kayshon Boutte's name is being tossed around in trade rumors. He has noted that he wants to be in New England, but it does not change the fact that he's in a contract year, and targets will be tougher to come by this season in New England.
Three-team trades in the NFL are rare, but not impossible. Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox proposed this three-team trade between the Patriots, Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals that would move Boutte, but surprisingly bring another wide receiver to New England:

The New England Patriots fell short in the Super Bowl last season, but they have hopes of getting back and winning it in 2026.
As a result, the team has made some big changes this offseason. The wide receiver position, in particular, has seen some changes, with Romeo Doubs being added in free agency and A.J. Brown was added via trade. Kyle Williams, Mack Hollins, and DeMario Douglas are all still around as well, so the room is crowded.
This has led to Kayshon Boutte being frequently mentioned in trade rumors. Boutte was productive in 2025, and several teams could use better depth. Now, it seems like two divisional rivals could be fighting for the LSU product.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently listed the best trade candidates, and Boutte made the list. Regarding possible destinations, Knox thinks the Chiefs and Raiders both make a ton of sense.

If/when the NFL explores whether a Terrelle Pryor-style suspension should be imposed on quarterback Brendan Sorsby after the supplemental draft, the Kayshon Boutte precedent points to no punishment.
The Hunter Dekkers precedent does, too.
Dekkers, who re-signed with the Saints this week, missed the entire 2023 college football season after losing his NCAA eligibility for betting on one of his team's games. With his NCAA eligibility permanently vacated, Dekkers played for Iowa Western Community College in 2024 before entering the draft. The NFL imposed no roadblocks to his professional career, before or after the 2025 draft.
After going undrafted, Dekkers spent most of the 2025 season with the Saints. He played for the Houston Gamblers of the UFL in 2026.
While at Iowa State, Dekkers had made more than 350 bets on his mother's DraftKings account. In 2021, he made a $15 wager on Iowa State to beat Oklahoma State. Dekkers did not play in the game.

With quarterback Brendan Sorsby intending to apply for the NFL's supplemental draft, some are watching and waiting to see whether the NFL will welcome him to the ranks of professional football.
Two key questions have arisen, from the NFL's perspective. First, will the league accept Sorsby into the supplemental draft? Second, will Commissioner Roger Goodell impose a suspension on Sorsby for underage (and thus illegal) gambling and/or for betting on Indiana games while he was on the Indiana roster (but not playing)?
The Terrelle Pryor precedent has caused some in league circles to believe the league will try to simulate the NCAA's punishment — basically, no football at all in 2026. In 2011, the league placed a five-game suspension on former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, mirroring the suspension that was imposed on Pryor by the NCAA.
Then there's the case of Kayshon Boutte. Earlier this year, he wrote an article for the Players' Tribune regarding his gambling addiction while in college.
"I'd wake up early in the morning, and the first thing I'd do was bet," Boutte wrote. "I'd stay up late and bet. All day. All night. I had insomnia, so if I woke up in the middle of the night, phone next to the bed, I'd bet. Any little money I had, it was going straight to FanDuel. . . . I knew I was addicted."

The New England Patriots started mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and Kayshon Boutte was in attendance. Boutte missed OTAs, and there were rumors that he was skipping because of the Patriots' addition and pursuit of A.J. Brown.
Boutte is in a contract year, and the addition of Brown figures to impact his role in the offense. He figures to be the No. 3 receiver, and it would make sense if he wanted to be dealt to a team where he can put up better numbers before hitting free agency. However, Boutte clarified that his OTAs absence had nothing to do with Brown or trade rumors, according to Taylor Kyles of CLNS.
Not only did Boutte clarify that his absence had nothing to do with Brown, but he also made it known that he wants to be a Patriot. Ultimately, he understands that it's up to the team if he gets traded, but he has no problem with being on the Patriots.
“I wouldn’t mind being here," Boutte told reporters, per Patriots insider Phil Perry. "I do want to be here."

Kayshon Boutte might want to play for a new team, but he intends to fulfil his short-term contractual obligations to the New England Patriots.
The fourth-year receiver didn't attend voluntary offseason training activities (OTAs), and reportedly is "interested" in being traded following the Patriots' acquisition of A.J. Brown. Many wondered whether he'd skip New England's mandatory minicamp, which runs Tuesday through Thursday, but Boutte last weekend told WBZ-TV's Aaron Parseghian that he plans to show up.
Boutte, appearing at a football camp in Franklin, Mass., also addressed the ongoing trade rumors.
“I try not to buy into (rumors)," Boutte said. "I could control what I could control. As long as I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing off the field, everything else will play out.”

Boutte told WBZ in Boston that he will attend this week's mandatory minicamp. As for talk that he won't be a Patriot this season, Boutte says that's not on his mind right now.

The Patriots drafted Boutte in the sixth round in 2023, and after not doing much as a rookie, he has topped 500 receiving yards each of the last two years. The arrival of A.J. Brown may result in fewer opportunities for Boutte, which could be why he's reportedly interested in an exit. But for this week, anyway, he's ready to get to work in New England.

Two of the New England Patriots’ top edge rushers, rookie Gabe Jacas and veteran Harold Landry, are question marks with mandatory minicamp set to take place Tuesday through Thursday. In the two OTA practices open to the media on June 2 and May 27, neither was among the participants.
This comes after the Patriots opted to improve at that position group this offseason, signing veteran Dre’Mont Jones in free agency and selecting Jacas in the second round of the NFL Draft.
New England ranked in the top 10 in the league in pressure rate in 2025, but its top sack producers, Landry and K’Lavon Chaisson, only combined for 16 sacks, and a team total of 35 — tying for 22nd in the league. Evidently, the team felt it could upgrade and let Chaisson walk in free agency.
On May 29, appearing on NFL Live, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler listed the Patriots as a potential “sleeper” trade candidate for the New York Giants’ former fifth overall selection in 2022, Kayvon Thibodeaux. New England may also have some ammunition in return, with wide receiver Kayshon Boutte showing apparent interest in a trade out of Foxboro.
With uncertainty currently looming over a group that needed more production, another addition makes sense.

Kayshon Boutte and Mack Hollins were solid players, but Brown and Doubs look to be an upgrade over what the Patriots had last season. Diggs was a 1,000-yard receiver last year, and he remains unsigned. Acquiring Brown is an all-in move, so should the Patriots also bring back Diggs to create an elite trio of wide receivers?
Well, the answer is more complicated than a simple yes or no. Right now, the Patriots' number three wide receiver is likely going to be Kayshon Boutte. However, there are rumors that he could be traded. He is in the final year of his deal and may want to play in an offense where he has a bigger role. He has been working out away from the team this offseason.
