Patriots Sign Two Offensive Linemen In Four-Player Roster Shakeup originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots made four roster moves Saturday as Mike Vrabel's team continued adjusting its depth following its preseason opener. New England signed offensive linemen Darrian Dalcourt and Joe Michalski, adding two versatile interior options to the training camp roster. The Patriots also released long snapper Niko Lalos and placed guard Andrew Rupcich on injured reserve.
The moves come two days after New England opened its preseason schedule against the Indianapolis Colts at Gillette Stadium. With roster decisions approaching, the Patriots are using the remaining weeks of camp to evaluate potential depth pieces throughout the offensive line.
Dalcourt entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2024. The 25-year-old spent his rookie season on Baltimore's practice squad before being released at the end of training camp in 2025. The 6-foot-3, 309-pound lineman later spent time on the practice squads of the Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns.
Dalcourt played his college football at Alabama, where he appeared at center and guard. His familiarity with multiple interior positions could help him receive an extended look from New England during the remainder of the preseason.

Ryan Lochte's ex-wife Kayla Reid says discovering that his new fiancée, Molly Gillihan, was someone already in her social circle made the end of their marriage even more painful.
In a new PEOPLE interview, Reid said she and Gillihan had mutual friends in Gainesville, Florida, exchanged invitations and personal advice, and spoke about Reid's marriage as it was falling apart. Reid now claims Gillihan was dating Lochte "behind my back."
The dates have become central to the disagreement. Reid officially filed for divorce from Lochte on March 26, 2025, while Lochte and Gillihan mark April 9 as their anniversary. Gillihan says she did not allow herself to consider a relationship until Lochte was living independently and divorce proceedings had already begun.
Lochte and Gillihan made their relationship public in July 2025 and became engaged in June 2026. Reid and Lochte finalized their divorce on July 1 after eight years of marriage and three children.
Reid said they moved within the same Gainesville social circle and that she uses the term "friend" lightly. According to Reid, the two women traded invitations to happy hours and Mother's Day gatherings and exchanged advice about local schools, career changes and other personal matters. Reid also said she helped Gillihan when she was considering opening a children's café, including offering ******* istance related to real estate.

The New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts tied 13-apiece in their Week 1 preseason matchup on Thursday.
There were highlights and lowlights on the offensive side of the ball for the Patriots. Keep in mind that none of the starters played in the game. As a result, the offensive unit was led at different points by backup quarterbacks Tommy DeVito and Behren Morton.
The unit itself accumulated 275 total yards on 69 plays, including 192 passing yards. The ground game wasn't as much of a factor as the Patriots probably would have hoped.
Wideout Kyle Williams scored the only touchdown for New England by hauling in a reception on a 12-yard pass from DeVito. Beyond that, the Patriots were only able to scrape by with a couple of field goals off the foot of Andy Borregales, who also had three misses on the night.
The Patriots led the time of possession well with a 32:07-27:53 advantage over the Colts. Yet, despite extra time and more possessions, the Patriots were not able to get anything going consistently on offense. That led to a stalemate with the visiting Colts at Gillette Stadium.

KL Rahul's condition after retiring hurt on the opening day of India's first Test against Sri Lanka is not a major concern, with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak saying the senior batter is "fine now" after suffering cramps.

Rahul scored a patient 77 off 162 ******* before leaving the field during the final session. He had formed a crucial 150-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal, helping India take control of the contest.

"KL batted really well, was getting cramps everywhere. fine now," Kotak told reporters after the day's play.
The biggest highlight of India's batting effort was Padikkal's unbeaten 131, his maiden international century. Returning to Test cricket after last playing against Australia in Perth in 2024, the Karnataka batter looked confident and composed throughout his innings.

Kotak praised the work Padikkal has put in over the past two years and also highlighted Sai Sudharsan's progress.

"Credit to Devdutt Padikkal for preparing & working hard in last 2 years. Both he, Sai are batting well. They are new ball batter," he added.

Padikkal reached his hundred from 134 ******* and struck a variety of shots against Sri Lanka's pace and spin attack. He was particularly effective against left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, using sweeps, punches and attacking shots to keep the bowlers under pressure.

"[To me] its important how they bat in different phases," Kotak said, underlining the importance of adapting to changing conditions during an innings.
India ended the day at 288 for two, with Padikkal unbeaten on 131 and Rishabh Pant on 27. Shubman Gill made a valuable contribution before being dismissed by Jayasuriya.

Rahul's departure was the only concern for India, although Kotak's update should ease worries about the batter's condition. Padikkal also battled dehydration late in the humid day but continued his innings.

With India firmly in control after the opening day, attention will now turn to whether Rahul is fit to return and how Padikkal and Pant build on the strong platform.

Timesofindia.com in Galle: Quick single, a punch in the air followed by a jubilant jump before unleashing another punch. The helmet came off in a flash, and his arms spread wide to acknowledge the applause from the dressing room and the spectators braving the heat on the grass banks. It was a memorable moment for Devdutt Padikkal, who notched up his maiden Test hundred, and it couldn't have come at a better time, both for him and the country.

Playing a Test for the country after 632 days, he walked into bat after a moment of chaos between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who were involved in a terrible mix-up, but took the mantle seamlessly from the opener. Devdutt got off the mark with a boundary, danced down the track to launch Prabath Jayasuriya for a maximum early in the innings and showcased excellent footwork against both spin and pace. There wasn't much happening off the surface in the first session, but the odd delivery did surprise the batters, mostly because of the drift caused by the crosswinds.

Off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha, introduced in the ninth over on his debut, got one to drift in and hold its line after pitching, but the bounce saved Devdutt, who wore a look of disbelief. No one expected that kind of ***** istance from the surface that early in the contest, and the remainder of the day showed that what happened in the 13th over was an anomaly. Except for the occasional delivery with more drift than usual, there wasn't much turn on offer, and Devdutt remained very busy and breezy in his approach, outscoring his senior partner, Rahul, with ease.

Like the spinners, pacers Lahiru ***** ara and Asitha Fernando also found little ***** istance. The two had their moments, but their effort wasn't consistent enough to challenge the visitors in the beautiful batting conditions. After the first rain break, Asitha bowled a testing spell to both Rahul and Devdutt, but both were seasoned enough to navigate the period, when moisture might have seeped into the surface because of the strong shower, and then feasted on some ordinary bowling.
While Rahul was happy to switch to blockathon mode, Devdutt kept the board moving at a fair clip. The Karnataka batters, who spend a lot of time off the field bonding over their mutual love for coffee, complemented each other really well. Rahul, who unfortunately retired hurt due to cramps, enjoys batting with Devdutt as the left-hander's positive approach allows him to switch to zen mode.

Devdutt remained in the driving seat of the 150-run stand, which put India in a dominant position on the opening day, maximizing the crucial toss Shubman Gill had won earlier. With the pitch expected to deteriorate in the coming days, India's best shot at winning the Test is to bat once and bat big, and both Devdutt and Rahul laid a solid foundation for that.

A couple of weeks ago, Devdutt was nowhere close to the playing XI, but an ill-timed injury to Sai Sudharsan opened up the No. 3 slot. The management, not

Devdutt Padikkal marked his return to India's Test setup in style, smashing his maiden Test century during the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The left-hander, who has won two IPL ***** les with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, produced a fluent and ***** ured knock at No. 3 to make a strong case for himself in India's middle order.
Padikkal became only the second Indian left-handed batter in the 21st century to score a Test century from No. 3, after former captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly had scored 136 against Zimbabwe in Delhi in 2002.

Overall, Padikkal is the sixth Indian left-hander to score a Test hundred from the No. 3 position. The list is led by Vinod Kambli with four centuries, followed by Ganguly with three, while Salim Durani, Bapu Nadkarni, Ajit Wadekar, Eknath Solkar, Surinder Amarnath and now Padikkal have one each.
Padikkal's century also ended a prolonged wait for an Indian batter to score a Test hundred from No. 3. The last Indian to achieve the feat was Shubman Gill, who scored a century against Bangladesh in Chennai in September 2024. Since then, India had used seven different batters at No. 3 across 19 Tests, with the position collectively averaging just 27.28 and producing only five scores of 50 or more in 35 innings.

The 25-year-old had also enjoyed a productive 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, averaging 60.33, and carried that confidence into Galle. After reaching his century, Padikkal celebrated with a fist pump and a punch of the air before removing his helmet and raising his bat towards the crowd and his teammates.

India captain Shubman Gill congratulated him in the middle, while head coach Gautam Gambhir applauded from the dressing room. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar was also present at the venue and joined in the celebrations.

KL Rahul was forced to retire hurt on 77 during Day 1 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium after suffering severe cramps and discomfort in his right hand. Rahul, who had played a composed and anchoring innings of 77 off 162 ****** , including nine fours and a six, was forced to leave the field shortly after the tea break. He received medical attention before walking back to the dressing room alongside the team physio.
Rahul initially appeared to be struggling with cramps and physical exhaustion. He was later seen experiencing discomfort in a finger on his right hand, with the Indian medical team ****** sing the issue. The India vice-captain had played a key role in putting India in a strong position before his departure. He retired hurt with India at 138/1, having provided stability at the top of the order.
Rahul's departure did not slow India's progress as Devdutt Padikkal continued his impressive innings and brought up his maiden Test century. Padikkal took charge after Rahul's exit and helped India move beyond the 200-run mark with captain Shubman Gill on strike.

Josh Hazlewood made a strong return to Test cricket after more than a year, taking six wickets in Australia's first innings against Bangladesh in Darwin. He bowled 28 overs and conceded 89 runs, taking two wickets on Day 2 before claiming four more on Saturday.

The performance took Hazlewood's Test wicket tally to 301, making him only the ninth Australian bowler to reach the 300-wicket mark.
Hazlewood also created history by becoming the first Australian fast bowler to take a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh in international cricket.

Before his 6/89, Ian Harvey held the best figures by an Australian pacer against Bangladesh. Harvey took 4/16 in an ODI at Darwin in 2003. Hazlewood's effort has now moved ahead of that mark.

However, the overall best bowling performance by an Australian against Bangladesh still belongs to spinner Stuart MacGill, who took 8/108 in a Test at Fatullah in 2006. Nathan Lyon has also recorded three five-wicket hauls against Bangladesh, while Shane Warne has two.
Hazlewood's six-wicket haul also places him among the leading fast bowlers to perform against Bangladesh in Tests. New Zealand's Chris Cairns remains at the top with 7/53, while India's Zaheer Khan also took seven wickets in a Test innings against Bangladesh.

For Australia, Mitchell Starc also claimed two wickets in the ongoing Test, taking his career total to 435 Test wickets. He is now the 11th-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.

Hazlewood's return has therefore been significant not only for Australia's ongoing Test but also for his place in the country's bowling history.

India captain Shubman Gill has denied reports of a communication gap between the team management and the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, saying the two sides have remained in regular contact over the fitness of injured players.

Questions were raised after three players initially included in India's squad for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka were ruled out before the series.

Speaking to the media on the eve of the first Test, Gill said the team management had been closely following the rehabilitation of players at the CoE.

"There is a constant communication with them. Unfortunately Sai Sudharsan did not improve as much as we liked as we can't take risks in Tests. But we are confident of our 15 (players)," Gill said at the pre-match press conference.

Gill said the five-day nature of Test cricket meant India could not risk playing players who were not fully fit.

"The Test match is for 5 days. If it's one-day or T20, then it's a different story. But in the Test match, you don't want to take a risk. I feel that in the Test match, you have more opportunities with other players (to come back)."

He explained that players have several opportunities to contribute during a Test, even if they do not start well.

"For example, if you don't play well on the first day, you get another chance. So, the players have more chances to come back. So, keeping that in mind, we were a little disappointed (with Sai and ****** rah)."

"But it didn't affect the morale of the team that much that they didn't get the first 11. I feel that whoever is in our 15 or whoever we give a chance in our playing 11 in any condition, they can play well and win the game," he said.

India will begin the series with Ravindra Jadeja as their only all-rounder, with Washington Sundar still recovering from injury.

Gill backed young all-rounder Manav Suthar to contribute if he gets an opportunity during the series.

"I think that's where someone like Manav coming in. He's got the ability with the bat. Of course, you need a bit of experience, you need some belief and confidence and that will only come once you're out there playing, when you score some runs.

"And hopefully he does that in the series."

League action is back!
The Royals narrowly went through to the second round of the Carabao Cup last Saturday, beating Bromley on penalties. It was Joel Pereira that had the last laugh in that game, saving Ethon Archer's penalty, but plaudits should go to Kyreece Lisbie, who had a great game.
Lewis Wing missed a penalty but the captain settled that by kicking off the scoring in the shootout. It will be Stevenage that Reading play in the next round (which I predicted), so we will be able to focus on the league at least.
Luton Town beat Gillingham 3-0 in the cup, with their campaign getting off to a smoother start than the Royals'. Goals by Nahki Wells, Bennadict Benagr and Giddeon Kouda sealed the deal for the Hatters, who face Chelsea in the next round. So it is likely Luton will also be focusing on the league, but these games are never predictable.
We finally hit matchday one of League One, with Reading vs Luton kicking off at 12:30 on Saturday. It will be available on Sky Sports and will be played at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, which has a capacity of 24,161. The referee to take us into league action will be Leigh Doughty.

The Dodgers lost the first game of this possible postseason preview in exasperating fashion and now look to even up the series on Friday night.
The Dodgers have the right pitcher on the mound to achieve that goal. Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the mound after a good outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks last Saturday, allowing only three hits and no earned runs, in the only game the Dodgers won in their 1-8 skid to start the month. The Dodgers barely scored enough runs in that game to win 2-1, in what is a common theme in Yamamoto starts.
Robert Gasser takes the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers. The lefty is 3-4 on the season with a 4.57 ERA. He also pitched last Saturday, getting a no-decision, allowing three earned runs in just 4.2 innings. Gasser faced the Dodgers in May in Milwaukee, where he went 4.1 innings allowing four earned runs on four hits, garnering his first loss of the season. All of those Dodgers run came in the fourth inning.
It felt like the Dodgers struggled to score four in Thursday night's game, continuing the trend of the offense showing up in bits and drabs. Gasser has not been going long into games so perhaps the Dodgers could get into the Brewers bullpen to finally do some damage. Antonio Senzatela, DL Hall, and Trevor Magill all look to be down in the bullpen so if there's a game this series to get the offense going, this one is it. Jacob Misiorowski looms for Saturday's game.
Teams: Dodgers vs. Brewers

India face a demanding final stretch in the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, with nine Tests remaining and little room for further losses if they are to reach the final at The Oval in June next year.

"The main goal is to play the WTC final, which is next year. And we have got about nine Tests and I think we have to win around six or seven to be able to have a good chance at qualifying. So in terms of that, I think it's a very important series for us," India captain Gill said at the pre-match press conference ahead of first Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Shubman Gill's side has played nine Tests so far in the current WTC cycle, winning four, losing four and drawing one. Four of their remaining nine matches will be played away from home, with the next two series coming in Sri Lanka, starting Saturday, and New Zealand.

India's two-Test series against Sri Lanka begins on August 15, followed by a two-Test tour of New Zealand in November. The WTC cycle will end with a five-Test series against Australia at home early next year.

India currently have 52 points from nine matches and a points percentage (PCT) of 48.15. In the previous two WTC cycles, a PCT of around 60 was enough for a team to qualify for the final.

TimesofIndia.com in Galle: India's road to the World Test Championship (WTC) final enters the home stretch from the historic city of Galle, and captain Shubman Gill has an uphill task over the next few months. The WTC final is mathematically still within India's reach but would need a performance for the ages in the next few months, starting with the series opener in Galle on August 15.

The scenario is simple: win seven out of the next nine Test matches to secure the final berth. Even though the immediate challenge involves Galle, crosswinds and frequent rain interruptions, Gill and Co. have their eyes locked on the target, the "main goal".

"The main goal is to play the WTC final, which is next year. And we have got about nine Tests and I think we have to win around six or seven to be able to have a good chance at qualifying. So in terms of that, I think it's a very important series for us," said Gill at the pre-match press conference.

Gill is taking giant strides forward as a leader, which is reflected in how the team has prepared for the series. The captain has vocally criticised the packed scheduling and how it has robbed the side of ideal preparation before an important series in the past. Sri Lanka, on that front, has come as a breath of fresh air, as the team has been camped in Colombo since August 4, where they trained hard at the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) Ground, played a warm-up fixture and squeezed in two quality sessions in Galle.

"If we do have an opportunity and if the scheduling allows us to have at least a week or 10 days before the Test match starts, it obviously helps with the preparation. Even last year we had quite a busy schedule in terms of, you know, travelling, playing in England and playing the Asia Cup, then playing the Test match in India, going to Australia.

"And then playing the Test match within four days after returning from Australia. So it's never easy for the players to be able to adapt. And most of the players in this team, I think, require a bit of time to be able to adjust to the conditions. And it's not like a lot of the players have a lot of matches or a lot of experience under their belts. So the extra time in preparation definitely helps," added Gill.

Every player in the squad relies on high-volume preparation. The optional nets remained busy on the eve of the match as the likes of Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Gurnoor Brar, Manav Suthar and others applied the finishing touches hours before taking the field in very hot and humid conditions. India's squad, hit by injury concerns, is far from the first choice, but there is no dearth of quality in the 15 ***** embled by the men's senior selection committee.

Chairman Ajit Agarkar has been with the side in Galle, and there have been long chats involving the selector, coach and captain. For a team that has relied heavily on all-rounders to fill crucial slots, the first Test will be a rare occasion featuring

When the New England Patriots took the Gillette Stadium fields on Tuesday for their joint session with the Indianapolis Colts, Christian Gonzalez was nowhere to be seen. The star cornerback did not make a late entry either; for the first time this training camp, he missed practice.
Gonzalez's absence comes in light of his ongoing contract negotiation with the Patriots. Naturally, it raised questions whether or not the two were related.
According to a report by Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal, they were not. Gonzalez apparently sat out the session due to a "minor injury sustained at the end of Monday's practice."
The 24-year-old appeared to hurt his ankle during that particular session, trying to defend a touchdown pass from Drake Maye to Romeo Doubs. He did not receive any medical attention on the field and left the session with no obvious limitation.
Speculation nonetheless ran high on Tuesday, especially with Gonzalez seemingly throwing oil on the fire on social media later during the day:
