GREENVILLE — Hayden Panettiere would have turned 37 today. Instead of celebrating, the focus remains on determining how the actress suddenly died over the weekend while visiting Greenville.
As the coroner's office still works to determine her cause of death, agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration have reportedly joined the Greenville Police Department's investigation, several news outlets have reported. The Post and Courier emailed the agency Aug. 21 and received an automated response that said "non-urgent press queries may take up to 48 hours."
The New York Times noted that the DEA has become involved in investigations after other famous people have died suddenly, including the overdose death of Matthew Perry in 2023.
"There's nothing to be shared at this time as the investigation is ongoing, but we are hopeful that justice will be served," a representative of the late actress said in a statement shared with ABC News.
First responders arrived at Judson Mills Lofts in Greenville just before 2 p.m. Aug. 16 for a report of a woman in cardiac arrest inside an apartment. After attempting to resuscitate Panettiere, she was ****** ounced dead at the scene at 2:34 p.m.

Prince Harry and a group of six other high-profile figures have been ordered to make an initial payment of £9.54m in legal costs to the Daily Mail's publisher after they lost their High Court privacy case.
The seven claimants, also including Sir Elton John and Liz Hurley, must pay the initial figure by 28 August - and could potentially pay up to £25m more after that in a victory for **** ociated Newspapers Limited (ANL).
The group had sued ANL over allegations of unlawful information-gathering, which the publisher had strenuously denied.
On 7 July, Judge Mr Justice Nicklin dismissed the claims and said the public figures had failed to prove the allegations.
The judge ruled that he was making an exceptional order to force the Duke of Sussex and others to pay up to £34.5m in costs incurred by the newspaper group because of the way the case had been brought - including unsupportable claims that top executives from the group had lied to the Leveson public inquiry.

A significantly changed and reinforced Real Madrid team is set to go into the 2026-27 season tomorrow, as they will play their first La Liga game of the new season, against Espanyol, at the RCDE Stadium.
The Merengue fans will be very excited to see their team in action for this game, especially the new players. Real Madrid, who have already announced their squad for this game, have named all the new signings, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva, Carlos Espi, and Yan Diomande in the list of players who will travel to Barcelona for this match.
However, it remains to be seen which of these players will actually play the game. The likes of Cucurella and Konate are less likely to start, as they returned from their holidays quite late, and have trained under Jose Mourinho for only a few days. Others like Bernardo Silva, Dumfries, and Espi have already played quite a few minutes during the preseason.
Meanwhile, there are two notable absences from the list. One of these is Aurelien Tchouameni, who continues to recover from his physical problem and has started training with the group, but Mourinho has not called him up for this game as he does not want to take any risks with him. The other is Endrick, who is out with a minor muscle injury, as the Portuguese coach confirmed in his presser.

The Jacksonville Jaguars host the Carolina Panthers in Week 2 of the preseason, and it presents another opportunity for several roster hopefuls to make a push.
A player's performance in the preseason can carry more weight in the overall evaluation process, given the environment.
These seven players, who are fringe roster candidates, are hoping to give their stock a boost in this contest.
Taylor impressed in the preseason opener. However, he is in a crowded position group. Can Taylor's play force the Jaguars to roster a fourth running back?
Brenton Strange, Nate Boerkircher, and Tanner Koziol make up the top three spots on the depth chart. That potentially leaves one roster spot still available for either Morris or Long.

What did Washington Commanders rookie linebacker Sonny Styles think of his first career game against the Miami Dolphins last week? Styles played only one series against Miami, and it didn't go well. No, Styles wasn't bad, but the results were, as the Dolphins ran 14 plays and drove 93 yards for a touchdown.
The Commanders won 20-7. Miami's last 11 drives ended without another score. Washington also forced four turnovers. Yet, Styles can't get that one drive out of his mind.
"Me and [LB] Leo [Chenal] were a little frustrated," Styles said with a smile. "One drive, one touchdown, like 15 plays, so, not ideal, but go again next week."
If you're a Washington coach, that should make you happy. That's how you wanted Styles to respond, even if the game meant nothing in the standings and Styles was playing with mostly backups.
Now that he's had a few days to think on it, how would Styles **** s his performance?

Let's get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Eagles-Patriots joint practices Day 2: Jalen Hurts finishes strong, Jalyx Hunt turns heads – PHLY
Throughout the first two full team periods, the pattern when the starters were on the field was consistent. When Drake Maye threw the ball, the Patriots moved the ball. When the Patriots ran the ball, the Eagles defensive line dominated. I counted one semi-successful run, which led to some light pushing and shoving when Nolan Smith took exception to Rhamondre Stevenson lowering his shoulder on Cooper DeJean. On one rep, Jalyx Hunt simply grabbed the ball from Stevenson's grasp in the backfield for an instant turnover. Talking with Patriots reporters after practice, their No. 1 takeaway was that Hunt looks like a superstar.
Patriots-Eagles joint practice recap: Defenses fight back on Day 2 – Pats Pulpit
Red zone woes: Improving in the red zone is an area of focus for the Patriots this season after struggling as a unit last year. On Thursday, the inconsistencies continued even though Drake Maye and Co. started strong with touchdowns to Mack Hollins and A.J. Brown on a contested catch over Quinyon Mitchell. From there, pressure became more of an issue and Maye was late targeting Brown along the goal line which led to a long pick-six by Riq Woolen. Maye's end-of-game drive then ended on one play as a slant to Brown was broken up with the ball popping up into the air and Jalyx Hunt recording an interception. The unit was given a second chance which ended better with a touchdown to Romeo Doubs. "Felt like we could have done more in the red zone," Maye said after practice. "That's something for us to learn. It's one of our focuses this year… so we got some work to do." […] Will Campbell and Caleb Lomu each split their 1-on-1 reps. Campbell continued to have some issues in pass pro against Jalyx Hunt, who is a breakout candidate for the Eagles this year, but did have a nice stunt pickup with Alijah Vera-Tucker to lead to Romeo Doubs' touchdown.
Eagles-Patriots Practice Notes: Jalen Hurts finishes strong, defense bounces back – BGN
Speaking of Jalyx Hunt, he produced two takeaways today. In addition to the pick, there was a rep where he simply stole the ball away from Rhamondre Stevenson's hands for an instant forced fumble and recovery. I love the aesthetic of that kind of play where the ball doesn't even touch the ground. Hunt is a beast. He's had an awesome summer.

Meghan Markle's former friend discusses her and Prince Harry's return to the UK. She talks about how Markle's past relationship with the country and the royal family might affect this. For those unversed, according to multiple reports, the Sussexes are returning to Britain by the end of the month. They will reportedly stay in a private, non-royal home while retaining their California and Portugal homes.
Meghan Markle's former friend dishes on her and Prince Harry's reported return to the UK. Nick Ede addressed this with Cafe Casino and explained that the **** ss of Sussex would approach this with mixed emotions, as she shares a tumultuous relationship with the British media.
Ede said: "I imagine Meghan would approach it with very mixed emotions. Britain was the setting for her wedding and one of the most extraordinary chapters of her life, but it is also **** ociated with intense scrutiny, negative headlines and a period she has described as deeply painful."
Furthermore, Ede emphasized that, unlike the last time Markle lived in the UK, this time she is coming more prepared. The actress has established herself as a lifestyle entrepreneur and a creative force. The source stated: "She would not be arriving as a new royal expected to learn an unfamiliar system. She would be coming back as an independent woman with her own businesses, profile and boundaries. That could make the experience feel much more manageable."
Moreover, Ede elucidated that the Sussexes have maintained complete privacy around their new home in the UK and their children's school. This could serve as a means to maintain privacy around their time in the UK.

Ivanka Trump stepped out in polished tailoring while wearing a familiar chic power suit for a business meeting in New York City. The former White House senior adviser was photographed leaving an office building in Manhattan before heading to a waiting SUV. While reports linked the outing to a possible meeting with Backlot, it was her timeless Sandro ensemble that stole the spotlight.
Ivanka rewore her Sandro tailored blazer and matching trousers in Almond Green for the NYC outing. The double-breasted blazer featured sharp lapels, structured shoulders, and contrasting white ******* ons that stood out against the soft pastel hue. Its tailored fit cinched gently at the waist before falling into coordinated cropped trousers, giving the classic power suit a lighter, more contemporary feel.
Ivanka paired the Sandro suit with white strappy heels that added a clean, summery finish to the monochromatic ensemble. She kept her accessories understated and carried a tote with the Backlot logo. The bag sparked speculation about the purpose of her Manhattan meeting. The minimal styling allowed the sharply tailored suit to remain the focal point of the look.
Her blonde hair was styled in loose, soft waves with a center part. The relaxed style offered a nice contrast to the structured silhouette. Meanwhile, her beauty look remained fresh and understated. She chose a "no-makeup" makeup finish and a nude lip that complemented the suit's pale green shade. The natural glam reinforced the refined, business-ready aesthetic.
The outfit was not a new addition to Ivanka's wardrobe. She previously wore the same Sandro pantsuit during her time in Washington, making the NYC appearance a notable fashion repeat. The latest outing highlights how the tailored set can still work as a polished choice years after its first appearance.

Depending on who you ask, indexed universal life (IUL) insurance is either a powerful wealth-building strategy or an overly complicated insurance product that promises more than it delivers. However, the truth could lie somewhere in the middle.
An IUL is first and foremost a life insurance policy. Like other permanent life insurance products, it can provide lifelong coverage and build cash value over time. But what makes it different is how that cash value grows. Instead of earning a fixed interest rate, it's tied to the performance of a stock market index, such as the S&P 500.
Here's how indexed universal life insurance works, who it may be a good fit for, and what to know before buying a policy.
Indexed universal life insurance is a type of permanent life insurance that combines a death benefit with a cash value account. As long as the policy stays in force, your beneficiaries receive a death benefit when you die, and part of the premiums you pay has the potential to grow inside the policy over time.

When a high-profile investor suddenly exits a stock, people immediately ******* ume something is wrong with the company. In Sandisk's (SNDK) case, the opposite appears to be true. A new regulatory filing shows that Situational Awareness — the AI-focused hedge fund run by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner — built a large position in Sandisk during the second quarter, making it one of the fund's biggest holdings at more than $5.6 billion. Then an AI-based selloff hit in July, and the fund took heavy losses, forcing Situational Awareness to offload much of its public portfolio to Ken Griffin's Citadel.
The forced selling helps explain part of the brutal July slide for Sandisk, as from late June to late July, SNDK stock's price essentially halved. But this says nothing about the company itself. The selling came from a fund unwinding under pressure, not from anything breaking inside Sandisk's business. If anything, the fundamentals have become even stronger. Sandisk recently posted the best quarter in its history, with revenue up 372% from a year ago and record gross margins.

NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is heading into its August 26 earnings report with expectations already elevated. Wall Street firm Stifel believes it can clear this high bar, with its bull case built around independent checkpoints scattered across the supply chain.
On August 19, Stifel ******* yst Ruben Roy reiterated a Buy rating on the stock with a $282.00 price target, implying roughly 30% upside from current levels. Stifel anticipates Nvidia to beat estimates and raise guidance, noting how its broader coverage preview reinforces the demand case for the stock.
One company behind Stifel's bullish call is Foxconn, legally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. Foxconn is the world's largest electronics contract manufacturer and a key Nvidia partner in its artificial intelligence buildout. The company reported second-quarter revenue of NT $2.53 trillion, jumping 41% year-over-year. Operating profit increased 68%, while net profit increased 35% backed by continued strong demand for AI.
Roy cited how Foxconn had its cloud and networking segment cross 50% of revenue for the first time with full-year AI rack shipments guided to more than double. CEO Michael Chiang reinforced this by noting that AI-related business performance will continue to grow in the third quarter and that the company expects significant quarter-on-quarter growth and strong year-on-year growth.
Another company supporting Stifel's bullish case is Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI). Super Micro is a global technology leader that designs and builds servers, storage systems, and complete rack-scale hardware for data centers. These AI servers and hardware sit at the core of data centers running Nvidia accelerators.

Tottenham have completed one half of their planned double swoop on Manchester City after an agreement was reached for the signing of Savinho, the Press ***** ociation understands.
Brazil winger Savinho has been a long-term target after Spurs failed in efforts to sign him ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
This time around Tottenham have succeeded in their pursuit of the 22-year-old, who will join for an initial fee of £75 million ($102.3 million) plus £10 million in add-ons in what may be a sensational double-transfer, with talks still ongoing with City over forward Omar Marmoush joining the north London club.
Savinho's arrival will take Spurs' summer spend beyond the £300 million mark and delight boss Roberto De Zerbi, who had promised attacking reinforcements were coming.
Tottenham face a race against time to try and complete the signing of Savinho before 12 pm (1100 GMT) on Friday to ensure he can make his debut in Saturday's Premier League opener at Brentford.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent earlier today announced a new buyback program for longer-dated Treasury securities that arrives at a moment when the U.S. bond market is under extraordinary stress, with 30-year yields having surged to 5.33% — levels not seen since 2007 — and the benchmark 10-year yield (TOQ26) pressing above 4.72%.
The buyback plan represents Bessent's most direct intervention yet into a market that has been deteriorating for weeks despite economic data that would normally support lower yields, including cooling retail sales, unexpected job losses in July, and moderating core inflation near 2.5%.

NEW YORK (AP) — The pilot of a speedboat that capsized during a tour around the Statue of Liberty, drowning an infant and her mother, has been arrested by U.S. immigration authorities who say he was in the country illegally.
Manuel Ernesto Hernandez-Umana, who has a pending federal criminal case in connection with the Aug. 8 crash, lied to a border officer and falsely claimed he was a U.S. citizen when he entered the country in Texas in 2007, the Department of Homeland Security said Wednesday.
Hernandez-Umana, 46, a citizen of El Salvador, is being held at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey, according to online records. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said he will eventually be deported.
Immigration authorities arrested him after he was released on bail in his criminal case, where he is charged with causing the deaths of 5-month old Antonella Garcia and 27-year-old Sara Sanchez through misconduct or neglect.
According to prosecutors, Hernandez-Umana wasn't licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard, wasn't aware of basic safety rules and told investigators he'd borrowed his friend's personal vessel for the New York Harbor excursion. The boat was illegally chartered and overcrowded, prosecutors said.

Enterprise software companies built their businesses around one ******* umption that went unquestioned for decades. People are the users. Employees log in, click through interfaces, update records and move between applications. The software earns its seat license because a human being sits in front of it.
That ******* umption is starting to crack. AI agents are becoming capable of retrieving information, making decisions and executing workflows on behalf of employees. The question circulating across enterprise software boardrooms is what happens to the business model when the human in the browser tab is no longer the primary user.
Salesforce is already confronting this. In April, the company launched Headless 360 at its TrailblazerDX conference. The architecture exposes every Salesforce capability as an API, MCP tool, or CLI command so that AI agents can access data, workflows, and business logic without opening a browser.
Co-founder Parker Harris framed it directly: "Why should you ever log into Salesforce again?"
That question points at something counterintuitive. The screens may matter less. The systems underneath may matter more.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri judge has allowed new U.S. House districts backed by President Donald Trump to be used in the November elections, rejecting a bid by to put the Republican-friendly districts to a statewide vote of the people.
The ruling Wednesday by Cole County Circuit Judge Daniel Green is a victory for Republicans seeking to hold onto their slim majority in the U.S. House. But the case is likely to end up in the state Supreme Court.
Missouri's new districts already were used in the August primaries. On that same day, Republican Secretary of State Denny Hoskins rejected a petition with thousands of signatures seeking to force a November referendum on the map. Hoskins ******* erted that Missouri's Constitution doesn't allow a referendum on congressional redistricting.
The judge agreed with Hoskins and other Republicans, who joined in defense of the new map.
"The Missouri Constitution does not supply any statement — let alone a clear one — reallocating authority over congressional redistricting away from the General ******* embly to a referendum process," Green wrote in the ruling.

The numbers have reached a scale that markets can no longer ignore. The U.S. fiscal deficit jumped to $432 billion in July alone, the biggest monthly shortfall since early 2021, pushing the year-to-date gap to nearly $1.8 trillion, with the full-year deficit expected to approach $2 trillion. The national debt is nearing the $40 trillion milestone, and the cost of financing it has ballooned to roughly $1.2 trillion so far this year, on pace for about $1.37 trillion for the full fiscal year.
The result has been a sharp move higher in long-term Treasury yields. The 30-year bond hit 5.33% in mid-August — its highest level in 19 years — while the 10-year note pushed toward 4.75%, a 20-month high before the Treasury stepped in this week to announce increased buying of longer dated bonds. Bond strategists point to a combination of forces for the recent high: mounting deficit concerns, inflation still stuck above the Fed's 2% target, and a wave of corporate debt issuance competing with Treasurys for investor cash. Some are calling it the return of the "bond vigilantes" — investors demanding higher yields to keep funding a government that keeps borrowing more.
Because bond prices move opposite to yields, when yields rise, existing bonds — which pay lower fixed rates — become less valuable, so their prices fall. And the longer a bond's maturity (its duration), the more its price drops for a given rise in yields. A 25 basis point rise in long-term yields can translate to roughly a 4% price loss in a long-duration bond fund.
That's why the debt story is fundamentally an ETF story. The funds holding long-dated Treasurys were absorbing the full force of the yield spike, while short-duration and alternative funds are becoming the market's refuge. While yields have since retreated post-Treasury announcement and there is a potential for a surge in buying 20+ year bond ETFs, the longer term impact to long-dated bonds remains to seen.
TLT is ground zero for the debt-and-yields story. As the most popular long-duration Treasury ETF, it holds bonds with 20+ years to maturity — exactly the part of the curve recently hammered as the 30-year yield hit multi-decade highs. TLT has slumped into a correction and touched a 22-year low in August, and investors have pulled more than $4.4 billion out of the fund this year. Strikingly, even a near-5% yield wasn't enough to stem the slide: the price losses from rising rates have overwhelmed the income the fund pays. TLT is the clearest example of how duration risk works against investors when the government's borrowing costs climb.

Half of Americans say President Trump's mass deportation campaign is too aggressive, according to a new poll released Wednesday, as Republicans look to regain voters' confidence on immigration less than 90 days away from the midterm election.
Nearly a quarter of voters who backed Trump in the 2024 presidential election also said his immigration enforcement approach is too aggressive, according to the Politico poll, which was conducted with Public First. It found that 50 percent of Americans overall said the administration's immigration agenda has gone too far.
While the administration has made some changes to its enforcement strategy, the polling has remained largely unchanged since earlier surveys in January and April — amid the height of the immigration crackdown in Minnesota, where federal agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens.
"Voters really did want border security, but they did not want to see abuelita taken away because she's been here for 40 years but without documentation," Arizona-based GOP strategist Barrett Marson told Politico.
The divide was sharper among Trump's supporters. Thirty-one percent of Trump voters who did not identify with the MAGA movement said his immigration agenda was too aggressive, compared with 15 percent of self-identified MAGA voters.

China flooded the world with cheap solar panels a decade ago, driving Western competitors out of business. It did the same with electric vehicles, prompting tariffs from Washington and Brussels. In 2025, the pattern repeated with batteries. Chinese manufacturers who had built twice as many factories as the world needed slashed prices to keep them running, pushing stationary storage packs down to $70 per kilowatt-hour, 45% cheaper than the year before. The decline was steep enough to reshape what power companies pay for electricity during the most expensive hours of the day.
Chinese overbuilding was the biggest single force behind the price collapse, but it wasn't the only one. A shift toward cheaper battery chemistry, a crash in lithium prices, and a decades-long accumulation of manufacturing improvements all hit at the same time, each amplifying the others. On its own, any one of those forces would have pushed prices down gradually. Their convergence is what turned a steady decline into a collapse.
Cheaper batteries are good news for electricity costs and for the climate. But the conditions that made them possible are unwinding. Lithium prices have already rebounded, and the tariffs designed to counter China's trade practices are adding new costs of their own.
Chinese battery manufacturers spent the early 2020s building factories at a pace that ***** umed electric vehicle demand would keep surging. It worked for a while. By 2024, China produced enough battery cells — the basic units that store electricity and power electric vehicles — for every car sold on the planet that year. But global manufacturing capacity far outstripped what anyone needed. At roughly 2,600 gigawatt-hours, the world's factories could supply every battery the market demanded and still have enough idle capacity to outfit nearly every home in America with its own storage system.
Even as the surplus became apparent, manufacturers kept adding capacity through 2025. The world's battery factories nearly doubled their capacity to more than 4,000 gigawatt-hours of cells a year — more than four times what the market actually bought — with China accounting for more than 80% of the total.
