The Kentucky Wildcats seemed very likely to cover the spread as they took a 17-13 lead into the break against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 2 action. The Oklahoma Sooners dropped to 1-1 in the 2026 season after a 17-10 loss on the road against the Michigan Wolverines. OU failed their first test of the season and played poor, sloppy football in a bad loss.
Expectations were sky-high entering the season, but just two games into Year 5 under head coach Brent Venables, the Sooners saw their season crumble in Ann Arbor. All of the offseason talk and hype that surrounded Oklahoma fell flat in the Big House.
Firstly, though the defense was much better in the second half, the Sooners did not look like a Venables-led defense in the first half. After riding the defense to 10 wins and a spot in the College Football Playoff last season, this year's defense isn't nearly as good, at least not yet. In addition to a loss on their record, the OU defense will also be without their heart and soul for a large chunk of time, as linebacker Kip Lewis was injured in the loss.
Despite only giving up 17 total points, Oklahoma's defense tackled poorly, didn't force any turnovers, and was outflanked often in the first half. The second half was far better on that side of the ball, but the Sooners still lost because of their anemic offense.

The repurchase of government debt led to Treasury yields continuing to climb, with the 10-year note topping a three-year high. Potential home buyers and refinancers hoping for some mortgage rate relief instead saw rates creep toward, and in some reports, top 7%.
Yields were mixed Friday, with the 10-year Treasury remaining just below 5%.
In an interview Thursday evening with conservative strategist Steve Bannon on "War Room," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent disputed the talk that the buyback program failed.
"This whole nonsense today that our operation didn't work — well, our operation didn't work, because we only had $10 billion of offers for our buyback program," Bessent said. "Normally, we get $20 billion, and we only buy the bonds back cheap. People seem to want to keep their long-term bonds, because we only had half as many offers. So, it's a bunch of noise, and in my career, I made money ignoring the noise."

Chris Buescher's Gateway weekend hit a snag before his No. 17 Ford ever reached the starting grid.
NASCAR ejected two car chiefs Saturday after a pair of Cup Series cars failed pre-race inspection twice at World Wide Technology Raceway.
Buescher's No. 17 RFK Racing Ford and Cody Ware's No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Chevrolet each required three trips through inspection before being cleared. The two failures resulted in the ejection of No. 17 car chief Joshua Sisco and No. 51 car chief Dave Jones for the remainder of the race weekend.
Both teams also lost their pit-stall selection for Sunday's Enjoy Illinois 300, leaving them with the final available stalls on pit road regardless of where their drivers qualified.
The consequences stop there, however. Both cars passed inspection on their third attempts, avoiding the additional penalties that would have come with another failure.

Oregon survived a scare against Boise State in Week 1, overcoming an upset to open the season with a win.
A week later at Oklahoma State, Oregon found itself in a similar position — only this time Dan Lanning's squad couldn't deliver the same ending: Oklahoma State defeated No. 6 Oregon 39-31 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Two Premier League matches at Anfield. Two draws.
For just the third time in 63 years, Liverpool have failed to win both of their opening home games of a league season - not exactly the flying start new boss Andoni Iraola would have been dreaming of.
After such an encouraging midweek performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, full of urgency, Saturday's goalless draw against Fulham was a flat follow-up, especially with the Cottagers lacking in confidence and having conceded seven goals in their first three league games.
The Reds looked physically and mentally tired and, to put it bluntly, like an entirely different team to the one that won against a Diego Simeone side that made it to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
On the first real look at how Iraola's style will cope with two games a week, this was certainly not what the Liverpool head coach, nor the Anfield crowd, would have wanted to see.

Xabi Alonso admitted he would love Chelsea to give him a "boring game" after their defensive woes allowed Hull to escape Stamford Bridge with a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

If part of the challenge for Andoni Iraola when he took the Liverpool job was mastering the art of winning Premier League games after midweek Champions League dates, he failed his first test. An Anfield afternoon against a side with the wrong sort of 100 percent record ought to have been the ideal introduction to such ******* ignments.
Instead, Fulham got their first point of the season. A Spanish manager with a playing career at right-back had much to savour; but it was Alvaro Arbeloa, not Iraola. A terrific defender under Rafa Benitez, Arbeloa contributed to many a clean sheet in his time at Liverpool. Now Fulham have a first in the Premier League in his reign. Having conceded three goals to left wing-backs against Crystal Palace last week, they conceded none to Liverpool's three £100m men.

Real Madrid are back in domestic action on Saturday, as they prepare to host Rayo Vallecano in La Liga at the Bernabeu. Jose Mourinho's side are aiming to bounce back after their narrow defeat at the hands of Real Betis last weekend, and three points would take them level with arch rivals Barcelona, who are not in action until Sunday.

The bitter saga between Francis Ngannou and Dana White continues nearly four years after the Cameroonian parted ways with the UFC. Seventy-First hit the road for the first official time this season against Hoke County, in a reunion with its former coach Duran McLaurin, and faced déjà vu from a year ago, falling to a last second field goal, 25-24.
Seventy-First began the night defensively, and immediately started to wreak havoc on Hoke County's unmatched offense.
The Falcons forced a turnover on downs on the Bucks in their first possession, but failed to capitalize on the early start, resulting in a punt.
In its second stint with the ball, Seventy-First pushed the ball downfield after a series of chunk plays from senior quarterback R'maunni Watson and senior athlete Shon Pone, until Pone punched in a 3-yard rush up the middle with just 1:37 left in the opening quarter. He then scored on the 2-point conversion.

It was a day of remembrance, but a night Nolan McLean might want to forget.
McLean's curveball spins at a higher rate than any other in baseball, but Friday night at Yankee Stadium, Cody Bellinger spun one over the short porch in right field into the stands. The three-run homer sank the Mets in a 6-4 loss to the Yankees.
It was the first time in more than a month McLean failed to go more than five innings, and only the second time in his last 14 outings. McLean was charged with five earned runs on a career-worst 10 hits over five innings in his ninth loss of the season (11-9). An NL Rookie of the Year candidate, McLean has looked like a seasoned veteran at times this season. But even the most dominant rookie starting pitchers have outings like the one McLean had against the Yankees.
Rookies slump, sputter and get knocked down, then figure out how to get up again.
No one knows this better than Bellinger, the 2017 NL Rookie of the Year. While his hitless stretches were few and far between with the Dodgers in 2017, there were bad strikeouts and bad games. Royalty Pharma plc (NASDAQ:RPRX) disclosed that pelacarsen failed the Phase 3 Lp(a)HORIZON cardiovascular-outcomes trial conducted by Novartis AG (NYSE:NVS). The randomized, double-blind study enrolled 8,323 patients with elevated lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), and established cardiovascular disease.
Pelacarsen lowered Lp(a), but the study did not meet its primary endpoint of reducing cardiovascular events compared with placebo in the overall population. The endpoint combined cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack, nonfatal stroke, and urgent coronary revascularization requiring hospitalization. Complete results have not yet been presented.
Royalty Pharma plc (NASDAQ:RPRX) provided Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:IONS) with $500 million in January 2023. The transaction allocated $150 million to pelacarsen royalties and $350 million to Spinraza royalties. The clinical failure shifts the financial focus from uncertain pelacarsen upside to recovery through Spinraza.

Marcus Thompson: I feel like they include him in the process. He's aware of what's going on. His voice matters, and as long as that's the case, Steph is fine. He's going to hold their feet to the fire; he's going to make sure they're sticking to it. The Warriors want to win. They are thirsty to win. So their match made heaven that way. As you can see, they tried to get every star out there. They failed, but... I mean, that's what it is at the end of a run, right? It's not going to be pretty. This was probably as best as you can hope for. Hopefully Jimmy Butler comes back for them, and they can make another run, and maybe upset somebody, maybe give it one last valiant effort. What more can you ask for? They want four championships. I think Steph is good enough to stay in the game to where it's like, okay, if you get him the right pieces and get him in a matchup, he'll scare somebody. Now, ideally, they can get somebody good enough to make him like the No. 2. So, he's not carrying everything. That's just hard to do when the two oldest people on the team are making, you know, $120 million. It's tough to not go and get another player who's better than both of them.

NFL star Aaron Rodgers did not mince words when he slammed ESPN over its lack of coverage of former journalist Dianna Russini's alleged affair with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
"I also said you're a gutless organization because they haven't said anything," Rodgers, 42, said during his Thursday, September 10, appearance on the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward show. "They spend so much time on certain issues but you won't talk one second on the Dianna Russini situation."
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback went on to explain that ESPN reported on San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York's prostitution scandal on the front page of its website, but failed to acknowledge the scandal involving Russini, 43, and Vrabel, 51.
"They will rotate the eight stories or whatever they have but they usually have like the one story that's featured," Rodgers continued. "That was the featured story. So you bring in how many millions of eyes to that situation. Why do you want to throw Jed York under the bus? I don't know. But does that have the same effect as a reporter who's, you know, has intimate relations with a coach, who has a vote for MVP, has a vote for coach of the year. I don't know if she's on the Hall of Fame [voting committee] or not but there's voting stuff."
