Tommy John, the namesake of a ligament-replacement surgery that paved a path to recovery for injured baseball players, has died. He was 83.
TMZ.com cited a statement released by John's agent, Mike Maguire, saying the pitcher passed away at his home in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., surrounded by his wife, Cheryl, and family. John had been in hospice care in Bradenton, Fla.
The New York Yankees released a statement on Sunday following the news of John's passing.

Bangladesh produced a historic performance in Darwin, defeating Australia by nine wickets in the first Test to secure their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil. Australia captain Pat ***** mins admitted his side were outplayed in all departments after Bangladesh completed a historic nine-wicket victory in the first Test at Darwin's Marrara Oval on Sunday.
The defeat gave Bangladesh their first Test win on Australian soil and only their second victory over Australia, following their maiden triumph in Dhaka in 2017.
Cummins pointed to Australia's first-innings performance as the key turning point, conceding that his side needed to find a way to bat for longer after Bangladesh's bowlers made early inroads.
"Probably that day one. You know, I thought our preparation was pretty much spot on. I thought it was excellent. So, no excuses. They played really well. I thought the day one wicket was doing a little bit early, but obviously got to try and find a way to bat a little bit longer than we did, and then, just couldn't penetrate with the ball," ***** mins said after the match.
Australia were dismissed for 198 in their first innings after ***** mins won the toss and elected to bat. Bangladesh responded with 426, taking a commanding 228-run lead that ultimately proved decisive.
The hosts showed more resistance in their second innings, reaching 284, with Cameron Green scoring a century. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz's five-wicket haul helped Bangladesh restrict Australia's lead to just 56 runs before the visitors chased down the target in 14.2 overs.

The first Test at Marrara Stadium in Darwin will be Bangladesh's first Test tour of Australia in more than 20 years. It also starts a 12-month period in which Australia are scheduled to play at least 20 Tests, including series against South Africa, India and England.

CHENNAI: Australia have decided against playing a practice game ahead of next year's highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. Tony Dodemaide, who is managing Australia's development squad that is currently training in Chennai, and is also part of the national selection group alongside George Bailey and Andrew McDonald, explained that the tight international schedule leaves little room for a conventional warm-up fixture.
Australia's fourth Test against New Zealand is scheduled to finish on Jan 8, while the first Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy is slated to begin on Jan 21.
"It gets over about 10 days before the first (Test) here...So we're playing Test cricket, as soon as the game finishes, we get on a plane and come here and have practice, and then straight into the first Test," Dodemaide told TOI on the sidelines of an event.
However, he added that players who are not part of the playing XI for the final Test against New Zealand will arrive in India early to get accustomed to the conditions. "We need to win the Test match against New Zealand. But the players in the touring squad who aren't playing in that Test will come early to get more acclimatised," he said.
The five match Test series will begin in Nagpur before moving to Chennai, Guwahati, Ranchi and Ahmedabad.
The Aussie pace department may still be relying on the experience of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat ******* mins, but Dodemaide said the next generation of pacemen is not too far behind. "Scott Boland, Michael Nesser and Brendan Doggett have been really good for us, while we have some very exciting talent coming through. Bangladesh were bowled out for just 54 in their second innings to lose their three-day tour match against a Cricket Australia XI by an innings and 38 runs, giving Australia's bowling attack plenty to take note of ahead of next week's first Test in Darwin.

The Warriors nonconference schedule consists of a road game at Fairfield before hosting state powers Cincinnati St. Xavier and Lakewood St. Edward. The rigors of Greater Western Ohio Conference play follows.
"That's why you come to a place like Wayne High School to play a schedule like that and just compete," Mukes said.
Wayne competed well in 2025. The Warriors reached the Region 2 final for a second consecutive season. That has the team hungry to take the next step needed to get back to the state final for the first time since 2015.

April Chapple, a former Tennessee volleyball player and a member of the Tennessee Athletics Hall of Fame, has died. She was 62.
Chapple, an Inglewood, California, native, starred for Tennessee from 1981-84, helping the program win three SEC regular-season championships and three SEC Tournament ******* les.
The Lady Vols reached the NCAA Tournament in all four of Chapple's seasons, and in 1982, Tennessee earned its first NCAA Tournament win in program history, beating Northwestern in five sets.
In 1984, she was named SEC Player of the Year and SEC Tournament MVP, on her way to becoming UT's second All-American in volleyball.
Among the program's all-time leaders, she ranks second in career aces (244) and third in career kills (1,650). Her top season for aces came in 1983, when she tallied 95, ranking second in the non-rally scoring era. In 1984, she recorded her best season in kills with 483, a total that ranks ninth in program history during that same era.

Irvine (Calif.) Crean Lutheran defensive back Jacob Whitehead has committed to Arizona and broke down why he chose the Wildcats.
"I'm very excited about my decision," Whitehead said. "There were a lot of reasons why I chose Arizona but the biggest was my connection with the coaching staff.
"I have great relationships with the coaches there and really feel accepted by everyone. I love how excited they are to add me to such a great program and I love the all around fit."
Whitehead is a player we first saw as a middle schooler at the Under the Radar Camp four years ago. He burst on to the scene at Inglewood his first two years of high school before transferring in to St. John Bosco last fall.
He battled some injuries with the Braves and missed much of his junior season but played in the Navy All-American Bowl in January and then made the move in to Crean Lutheran this off-season.

According to GiveMeSport, ***** nal are closing in on an agreement to sign the 18-year-old forward, with the club hoping to complete a deal worth around £2 million plus add-ons.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Over and over, Bo Nix planted his right foot and accurately delivered the ball downfield Saturday.
On the few broken plays, he wasn't shy to tuck it and run.
The Denver Broncos ' third-year quarterback who underwent a pair of surgeries on his right ankle this offseason is back working with the starters and leading the team that he took to the AFC championship game six months ago only to watch from the luxury suites as backup Jarrett Stidham directed Denver's offense in a three-point loss to New England in a snowstorm.
"It feels great, it feels normal," Nix said after Saturday's practice. "It feels like we're headed in the right direction as a team."
The Broncos were conservative with Nix in the offseason, mostly holding him out of drills save for some 7-on-7s at their minicamp in June. Coach Sean Payton said Saturday that Nix is right where the team expected to him be health-wise.

This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired 8-time Pro Bowl defensive back Patrick Peterson.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Peterson, who participated in this year's American Century Championship, held at Edgewood Tahoe and aired on NBC and Peacock, discussed Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love's chances of excelling in his rookie season ahead of the Week 11 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"I like the pick because they have a receiver; there wasn't a quarterback there that they felt they could get them over the hump right now. Jacoby Brissett was a salvageable quarterback due to the absence of Kyler Murray; they had pretty much everything they wanted on the offensive side of the ball," said Peterson. "Still, they felt like they were missing that home run hitter, that other piece, and that was Jeremiyah Love. I love the pick. My only thing would be, how much are they going to put on his plate?"
The Chiefs will host the Cardinals in Week 11 this season and get an opposing look at Love, the third overall draft pick out of Notre Dame. In 2025, Love rushed 199 times for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. He also tallied 27 receptions for 280 yards and three receiving touchdowns, earning finalist status for the Heisman Trophy.
"I know Coach Mike LaFleur is coming from the (Los Angeles) Rams, they have a lot of nuances in their offense to get their playmakers involved in the ball game, but you also gotta think about the Arizona Cardinals, were the fifth pick for a reason, they have a lot of holes in that team, offensive linemen, protecting the quarterback and being able to open lanes for him, you have a quarterback issue," said Peterson, "If your quarterback is not good enough to be able to loosen up defenses, how you expect a rookie running back to be explosive, he definitely has a lot of ups and downs, a lot of challenges that he's facing right now, but he is a home run here; he's a great player, and I'm not upset at all with the pick. Now, Arizona is going to have to do a great job of putting the pieces around him so that he can be successful."

The Denver Broncos prepared to open training camp this week from their new $175 million headquarters, which was designed with players in mind.
"Oh, this is incredible," said Meinerz, the Broncos' perennial All-Pro guard. "I'm finding new things every time. I've just stayed on the first floor. I got to park underground. When I get done with practice my truck's not going to be 150 degrees. That's a nice little thing."
The Broncos will hold their first practice of their acclimation period Wednesday in the shadows of the new state-of-the-art facility funded by owners Greg Penner and Carrie Walton Penner.
It was designed to keep players from having to exert extra energy in a superfluous manner, such as long walks to their weight room like they had to make in their old headquarters across the football fields, buildings that will be torn down after training camp next month.

Chennai: As India look to usher in a new generation of fast bowlers, Australian great Glenn McGrath believes Prasidh Krishna has all the ingredients to become Jasprit ****** rah's long-term pace partner.
The legendary fast bowler, who is the director of coaching at the MRF Pace Foundation, has closely followed Prasidh's rise and feels the tall Karnataka seamer has transformed his potential into performances.
"I'm a big fan of Prasidh," McGrath said. "If he gets his length right, he's got everything going for him."
"He has really matured. He's tall, bowls in good areas, generates bounce and has genuine pace. Occasionally he's a little short, but apart from that, I think he's the whole package. He's really developed and put his potential into performance," he said.
India have handed opportunities to several young quicks during the recent tours of the UK and Zimbabwe as they prepare for a demanding cycle of white-ball cricket, with the ODI and T20 World Cups to be played in South Africa and Australia-New Zealand respectively. It means India will need a strong pace attack firing on all cylinders, and McGrath believes the transition phase they are going through will not be easy.
"You've got ****** rah, who's a class bowler, and Mohammed Shami, who's world-class as well. Mohammed Siraj has been around for a long time too. You can't just expect to pick up straight where you left off. It's always going to be a transitional period," he said, referring to the Australian team, which will also go through a similar phase.
"Other than Pat ****** mins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, hardly anybody gets a chance... So it's not going to be easy for Australia either."
McGrath also pointed out that ****** rah's unconventional action demands careful workload management.
"The way he powers through those last few steps probably puts more stress on his body than most bowlers. It'll be interesting to see how he manages himself," McGrath said.
While India appear keen to fast-track younger bowlers, McGrath insisted experienced pacers still have an important role to play.
"It's always good to have experience there. Young bowlers learn by playing alongside senior guys. I was fortunate to watch Craig McDermott and Merv Hughes. That's where you really learn. I'd always pick an experienced team over a potential team," he said.
On whether veterans such as Shami or Bhuvneshwar ****** ar could still mount a comeback, McGrath said the decision rested on their bodies, motivation and the selectors.
"If they're prepared to put the work in and their body allows it, then why not? As fast bowlers get older, the work only gets tougher. Ultimately, it's up to them and the selectors."
McGrath also called for a rethink in the way fast bowlers are rehabilitated after injuries, arguing that modern systems often "wrap bowlers in cotton wool" instead of making them physically stronger.

Sports Illustrated ranked Garrett as the NFL's best edge rusher entering 2026.
