Portland closed the gap, pulling to 98-88 on Carleton's 3-pointer with 4:08 left. She had a layup that made it 100-93 to get the Fire even closer. Clark hit free throws to make it 110-96 with just a minute to go and the Fire ran out of time.

The first real controversy of the 2026-27 U of L athletics season hit about a month before a Cardinal team played a contest that counted.
On Tuesday, the Louisville men's basketball team played an exhibition game in the Bahamas that fans had no ability to watch or listen to. I wasn't happy about it, you weren't happy about it, ******* ody was happy about it.
The immediate result of that annoyance, as it typically is, was people trying to figure out who they should blame. There were fingers pointed at Josh Heird, the ACC Network, ESPN, U of L's marketing department, and bizarrely at one point, Tim Henderson. Ok, the last one might have been made up, but every other entity on that list received their fair share of not so friendly fire over the last two weeks or so.
Following his team's 101-52 trouncing of Bahamas Raw Talent on Tuesday, Pat Kelsey wasted no time in accepting full blame for fans having to spend their afternoons staring at an updating box score.
"I'm well aware that people are upset that we didn't stream it," Kelsey said. "All I can do on the back end after we made that decision is apologize. Probably, looking back and seeing how passionate everyone is about it, probably should have done it. But everything this summer was just about doors closed, blinders on, let's grow as a team. Let's get better. It's been about us and business."

Kelsey Plum's two-season tenure with the Los Angeles Sparks is likely coming to an end, per LA Times reporter Marisa Ingemi. Ingemi reported that the Sparks will most likely trade Plum by Sunday's midseason trade deadline, and that they've gotten interest from across the league.

FARMINGTON — Most caddies are credited by top amateur and professional golfers for helping them select the right clubs and read greens, but for 20-year-old Ashley Lam on Thursday at Oakridge Country Club, it was a little piece of advice her 22-year-old brother Sean Lam gave her that just might have meant the difference between winning and losing the 36-hole championship match of the 120th Utah Women's Amateur.
Four times heavy underdog Ashley Lam took the lead over six-time champion Kelsey Chugg, 35, on a buzzard-hot day in Davis County, but each time Chugg came roaring back, including from a three-hole deficit on the 32th, 34th and 35th holes to square the match heading into the 36th hole, No. 18 at Oakridge.
So how was Lam able to keep her composure after losing the big lead in a four-hole stretch?
"It was just my brother telling me to lock in and just stop being a little baby," she said, then added that she wouldn't take that kind of tough love from anybody but him. Sean Lam played golf briefly for Glendale College in Arizona and now works for Callaway.
"It was a really great experience, just because he's been with me all throughout, just my whole childhood playing golf with him," an emotional Ashley Lam said after her big brother playfully roughed her up a bit to congratulate her on the 18th green before the traditional trophy ceremony took place.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was ****** sed her seventh technical foul of the season in Wednesday’s 123-88 victory over the Connecticut Sun. She is now one technical foul away from a WNBA-mandated one-game suspension.
Clark and Sun guard Saniya Rivers were both given technical fouls during a dustup at the end of the third quarter. After Clark was fouled by Sun center Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Rivers waved her arm in Clark’s direction as she expressed displeasure with the foul call. In response, Clark appeared to yell in Rivers’ direction.
Clark has now received technical fouls in back-to-back games. She was ****** sed her sixth tech in a win over the New York Liberty last week. Asked at Monday’s practice if she needed to change her behavior with how close she is to a suspension, Clark simply said, “No.”
Clark, who has been managing a back injury all season, had her minutes restriction lifted Wednesday. She responded with 27 points and 11 ****** ists in 27 minutes to lead the Fever to a franchise-record 123 points. There might not be a better match play golfer in the history of the state of Utah than Kelsey Chugg, a 35-year-old amateur who continues to defy the odds on the golf course.
The **** ociate director of golf for Salt Lake City was at it again on Wednesday at Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, winning a pair of matches against much younger players to advance to the 36-hole championship match of the 120th Women’s State Amateur.
Chugg will face Taylorsville’s Ashley Lam, a Westminster University golfer who prepped at Skyline High, in Thursday’s final match at 7:30 a.m. as Chugg chases her seventh **** le and Lam her first.
It will be the eighth championship match for Chugg, who is 6-1 in **** le matches in 15 appearances in the Utah Women’s State Amateur and now has a 45-8 record in State Am matches, according to Kurt Kragthorpe of Fairways Magazine.
Chugg advanced Wednesday with a 2 up victory over another former champion, 2020 winner Grace Summerhays of Scottsdale, Arizona. Summerhays recently completed her college career at Arizona State and was playing in only her second event after taking nearly nine months off due to wrist injuries.

The Indiana Fever placed Caitlin Clark on a minutes restriction once again Sunday night as she continues working her way back from a back injury.
Despite that limitation, the team delivered one of its best performances of the season.
Indiana dominated the Las Vegas Aces 109-75 behind Kelsey Mitchell's 27 points and 20 points off the bench from Sophie Cunningham.
Clark played 24 minutes and finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and six **** ists, while Aliyah Boston added 19 points and 11 rebounds.
In the final seconds of the third quarter, Clark found Monique Billings for an **** ist. Shortly afterward, the Fever announced it was the 600th **** ist of Clark's career, making her the fastest player in WNBA history to reach the milestone. She accomplished the feat in just 72 games.

In their disappointing loss to the Fever, Las Vegas only held the lead once before getting severely outscored in the second half. This marked the Fever's first-ever road victory visiting Sin City.

The WNBA will make its NBC primetime debut this weekend as the network embarks on a summer of intriguing matchups before broadcasting the WNBA Finals in October, concluding the league's 30th season.
As their male counterparts did in February, the WNBA on NBC will kick off "Sunday Night Basketball" on Sunday, July 12, when the defending-champion Las Vegas Aces face the league's top television attraction, the Indiana Fever. (9 p.m. ET, NBC/Peacock).
The star power is loaded for both teams, with league MVP A'ja Wilson and All-WNBA performer Jackie Young for Las Vegas, and Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell headlining the Fever.
The contest will be the first WNBA regular-season game on a Sunday in primetime on an over-the-air broadcast network. Zora Stephenson will handle play-by-play alongside ***** yst Sarah Kustok, with Ashley ShahAhmadi as the courtside reporter. Host Maria Taylor and Hall of Famers Cheryl Miller and Sue Bird will be on-site providing studio ***** ysis, instead of their usual perch at NBC Sports headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut.

The Indiana Fever responded well after suffering a brutal loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on the first night of a back-to-back on Wednesday night. Indiana defeated the Phoenix Mercury 92-89 on Thursday. Impressively, the Fever pulled off the victory without the services of All-World point guard Caitlin Clark, who missed the game as part of a management plan for a lingering back issue that has bothered her throughout the season.
In her place, fellow All-Star Kelsey Mitchell stepped up in a big way, scoring 29 points and dishing out eight **** ists, as well as scoring the go-ahead bucket late in regulation.
After the game, the Fever had nothing but praise for Mitchell and the way she rose to the moment.
"I'm just— she puts us on her back," White said in the post-game presser. "She really does. And she scores while people are hanging on her all the time. She's able to get open while people are hanging on her all the time. I mean, her endurance is incredible. You know, we rely heavily on her, and I'm thankful she's on our team."
After the win, Fever COO and general manager Amber **** took to X to share her appreciation for the fans that came out to support the team on its West Conference road trip. However, some fans, rather oddly, felt that **** and White were only so enthusiastic about the team and its supporters because it won without Clark.
