FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Guilherme Santos and Agustin Resch both scored, and Jonathan Bond posted a third straight clean sheet to help the Houston Dynamo run their unbeaten streak to six with a 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday.
Santos scored in the first minute of stoppage time to send Houston (10-6-2) into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Santos has 11 goals in 18 appearances in his first season in the league.
Rookie defender Agustin Resch netted his first goal when he used an ***** ist from Jack McGlynn off a corner kick to score with a header in the 63rd minute for a 2-0 advantage. It was the sixth ***** ist this season for McGlynn.
Bond stopped two shots on goal and notched his sixth shutout of the campaign for Houston. It was his 13th clean sheet in 44 starts since joining the Dynamo last season. Bond had four shutouts in 89 starts for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Matt Turner finished with six saves for New England (9-6-3), which falls to 8-2-1 at home.

Two traditional clubs with large and passionate fan bases will kick off their respective seasons on Sunday, with the atmosphere inside the Max-Morlock-Stadion expected to be electric as Nürnberg face Dynamo Dresden.
Miroslav Klose enters his third season in charge of Der Club, with promotion ambitions yet to come to fruition following 10th and eighth-place finishes in his first two campaigns. The former Germany international will be hoping this can finally be the season in which he guides Nürnberg back to the Bundesliga.
As with most clubs in the division, Nürnberg have seen several departures during the summer, with Fabio Gruber and Luka Lochoshvili among those to leave. However, the club have brought in eight new players to compensate for those losses.

Once the Dodgers acquired the two-time Cy Young Award winner, others scrambled to keep pace. The big question is if the blizzard of moves will really help a team: (A.) get to the playoffs and (B.) make a run at keeping the Dodger Dynamo from winning a third consecutive World Series.
The Boston Red Sox got all-star catcher Adley Rutschman hours before the deadline in a six-player blockbuster with the Baltimore Orioles. Dynamo Dresden defender Lars Bünning as spoken in public for the first time about a life-threatening brain haemorrhage and subsequent emergency surgery two months ago.
"The past few weeks have probably been the most difficult weeks of my entire life so far. All the more beautiful it was for my family and me to see that all of you are fighting this battle back to life together with me," Bünning said in a video message on Instagram.
"My rehabilitation is going very well, I'm making progress every day, and I'll soon be able to return to Dresden. I'm incredibly excited to see all of you at the stadium and celebrate Dynamo victories together."
The message was also played in the stadium during Saturday's team presentation at the second division club.
Bünning suffered the brain haemorrhage a few days after the last match of the season. According to the club, it occurred spontaneously and without any external cause.

HOUSTON (AP) — Guilherme Santos and Agustín Bouzat both scored as the Houston Dynamo shut out Sporting KC 2-0 on Saturday.
Houston (9-6-2) now sits in fourth place in the Western Conference, two points up on Real Salt Lake.
Santos netted the first goal of the night in the 55th minute with an outside-the-box shot that found the back of the net on an expected goal of 3%. With the goal, he became the ninth player in MLS history to score or ******* ist on at least 17 of his club's first 25 goals in a season.
Bouzat sealed the win with a left-footed shot from the center of the box to help the Dynamo extend their unbeaten streak to five games.
Jonathan Bond made four saves for Houston to preserve the clean sheet.

The Houston Dynamo return to action from their World Cup break this week, but after a couple matches, they'll be adding a new sponsor to their jerseys and it will be placed in a fitting spot.
The Dynamo, who play D.C. United on Wednesday at Shell Energy Stadium, announced a multi-year partnership with Dude Wipes on Tuesday that will include adding the name of the disposable wipes brand to a spot close to where the product is most often used: The bottom of the back of the jerseys. The branding will be added in time for the Aug. 1 road match at Sporting Kansas City.
The partnerships tagline is "Space City has Uranus covered."
"Dude Wipes is exactly the kind of partner we love working with: a brand that's unapologetically authentic, knows how to make people laugh, and has built an incredibly loyal community by staying true to its personality," Houston Dynamo FC chief revenue officer Nico Zini said in a statement released by the club. "Together, we'll bring that same energy to our fans through creative activations, meaningful community initiatives and unforgettable matchday experiences. And as our Back of Jersey partner, it's only fitting that Dude Wipes literally has our backs."
The Dynamo-Dude Wipes partnership will include signage inside Shell Energy Stadium, concourse activations and premium hospitality enhancements. The company also will be the presenting partner of Cascarita, a youth development program that offers free street-style pickup soccer events for players ages 12-18.

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are edging closer to signing Mika Baur from SC Padeborn. Sky Sports reported the midfielder is keen on the move as personal terms wouldn't be an issue due to his agent Christian Nerlinger having an excellent relationship with Celtic.
Schalke were also interested in signing the 22-year-old, but Celtic are working on completing the deal with immediate effect. The traditional club beat Hearts to win yet another championship on the last day of the 2025/26 season.
Similarly, Baur ended the season positively as Padeborn won promotion back to Bundesliga after beating Wolfsburg in the relegation/promotion playoff. Baur was ever-present in their successful campaign after spending the previous season on loan at Dynamo Dresden.

PHILADELPHIA — It's a bad week to be a baseball in South Philadelphia.
Yes, dear friends, MLB's annual big fly bacchanal is almost here. The 2026 Home Run Derby begins at 8 p.m. ET Monday. This is, reliably, the most whimsical, joy-oriented evening on the baseball calendar. It exists because it is fun. There is a winner but no losers.
That's all true no matter the year, the venue or the entrants. But this upcoming edition, for a multitude of reasons, should be a uniquely scintillating contest.
The field itself is a banger, a diverse, enthralling collection of very large and powerful individuals. The hometown tandem of Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber is the main attraction; they are the first set of teammates to participate since 2018. Both are beloved in Philadelphia, but a showdown could produce a friendly tilt for the ultimate spotlight.
And beyond the Phillies, storylines abound. Rays dynamo Junior Caminero is looking to avenge his second-place finish from last season. ******* anese rookie sensation Munetaka Murakami is participating fresh off the injured list. Both the Yankees (Ben Rice) and Red Sox (Willson Contreras) have a representative. There's a radically different format for the first time in a decade. Oh, and Netflix is broadcasting the event for the first time. Let's dig in.

From Shohei Ohtani, something special, something new.
The Dodgers' two-way dynamo cranked the 300th home run of his MLB career on Tuesday, the latest milestone in a career that has constantly redefined the limits of baseballing dominance. Leading off the game for the Dodgers, Ohtani deposited the third pitch he saw, a 93.3-mph sinker from Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen, into the center-field seats.
It was yet another addition to his already astonishing highlight reel.
That said, nearly all of Ohtani’s numerous achievements to this point have been measured and appreciated within the context of his sheer existence or his greatness over a single game or a full season. Ohtani is a fun fact machine in large part because ****** ody else in MLB hits and pitches. That he's doing both, at any level, is stunning. His mere existence has often felt improbable — a player whose skill set belongs more to folklore than modern baseball.
Ohtani's four MVP awards — more than anybody in MLB history except Barry Bonds, with more almost certainly to come — are a reminder of that greatness.

For a while, it seemed the only story in the lead-up to the US men's national team last-16 matchup against Belgium was the presence of Folarin Balogun. In the end, Balogun's presence didn't really matter at all. Not on the field, at least.
The forward was serviceable in the USMNT's 4-1 loss and even earned the foul that led to the Americans' lone goal, a deflected free-kick off the foot of midfielder Malik Tillman. He was far from the dynamo he'd been in the US's other World Cup matches. But Balogun alone would never have saved a US team who were comprehensively dismantled by a technical Belgian side.
The fact that Balogun did not appear on the scoresheet was probably good news to a certain subset of fans and pundits – and certainly to Belgium's coaches and players, all of whom have claimed that the Monaco forward shouldn't have been involved in the match in the first place. Balogun was slated to serve a red-card suspension in Monday's match but ended up in Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI instead after the US Soccer Federation – along with Donald Trump's administration – pushed for and received a stay in that punishment.

That perceived politicking turned what should've been a celebratory affair, a chance for the US to declare themselves among the world's best teams at a home World Cup, into a circus, one that put America as a whole under the microscope. The US had bigger problems Monday, but one wonders how much the intensity of the discourse surrounding Balogun contributed to the US's dreadful performance.

In a friendly Sunday afternoon match, LAFC returned to the pitch for the first time since May 24, defeating the El Salvador national team 3-0 at BMO Stadium.
Despite the crowd in attendance overwhelmingly voicing support for El Salvador, the Black & Gold cruised through a mostly dominant showing and got their legs back under them. Mark Delgado, Jeremy Ebobisse and Ryan Hollingshead each provided scores en route to the victory.
"You want to make sure that your friendlies have the right amount of intensity," LAFC head coach Marc Dos Santos said. "Overall, I think the mentality was good. When you're in this world and you play friendlies, it's easy for players to relax and switch off. They were very pro and responsible, and that is a good sign of responsibility."
Delgado's score came relatively quickly as he rocketed a shot through the back of the net from the top of the box in minute nine. It was just the second goal of 2026 for the midfielder, who hadn't managed to score since LAFC's second game of the season against Houston Dynamo on Feb. 28.
Following a quiet next 30 minutes, Ebobisse put a bow on the half by finishing a well-placed cross from Denis Bouanga. Unlike Delgado, Ebobisse had not scored in 2026 before finally notching his first on Sunday afternoon.

Alex Ovechkin, the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer, will return for a 22nd season with the Washington Capitals, the club announced on Thursday.
The Capitals said in a statement that the Russian great has signed a one-year contract with an average annual value of $4.25 million.
"I'm back!" Ovechkin said in comments posted on the Caps website. "Thank you to everyone for giving me and my family the time to make this decision. I'm healthy. I love playing hockey and competing to win. I'm excited to come back and join my teammates so we can fight for a playoff spot and have a chance to win. See you in September, DC!"
Ovechkin, who turns 41 in September, was the first overall draft pick by the Capitals in 2004, arriving in the NHL in 2005 after launching his pro career with Dynamo Moscow at the age of 16.
He led the Capitals to the Stanley Cup in 2018, but last season Washington fell short of a playoff berth.

With virtually every top club in England on the hunt for new midfielders this summer, Manchester United run the risk of missing out on top targets to their direct rivals. Manchester City have already agreed a club-record deal with Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson, whom INEOS had identified as their first-choice option to replace Casemiro.
