Just when it seemed we wouldn't have to spend our Sunday dredging up ghosts of past transfers, the Italian media has breathed new life into the seemingly moribund Rodrigo Mora saga. The 19-year-old Porto midfielder popped up on Roma's radar earlier this month, whipping fans into a frenzy with visions of a Portuguese Messi dancing through our heads.
Although prohibitively expensive by Roma's customary standards, the Giallorossi were poised to smash their transfer record, handing over €50 million to acquire the talented teenager, albeit in a convoluted fashion. Unwilling or unable to pay the full freight for Mora, Sporting Director Tony D'Amico spent the better part of a week blazing creative paths toward the fifty-million mark.
With the two sides reportedly agreeing to a 50/50 split that would see Roma pay €25 million this summer and €25 million next summer—the latter essentially serving to remove the rumored 40% to 50% sell-on fee—it seemed the deal was as good as done. There were also reports that the deal was structured as a loan with an obligation to buy—either way, the final cost would be in the €50 million neighborhood.

Bangladesh produced a historic performance in Darwin, defeating Australia by nine wickets in the first Test to secure their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil. VfL Wolfsburg went into the Niedersachsen derby against Hannover 96 as clear favourites. With their squad quality and financial resources, the Wolves are expected to be among the strongest teams in the 2. Bundesliga this season. But, much like on the opening matchday, it was their opponents who looked like the better team on the pitch.

USC football's most important game of 2026 is against Oregon. However, if the Trojans do lose that game, they still have a path to the College Football Playoff in the Big Ten. They would likely need to beat either Ohio State or Indiana to get where they need to go. They would also need to beat Penn State and Washington, but that's a separate conversation. Purely in terms of beating one of Ohio State or Indiana, the Trojans might be interested in what happens on October 17.
USC will not play a game on that Saturday. The Trojans will be exhausted after seven consecutive weekends with a game. They will rest and recharge ... and they will very probably watch Ohio State face Indiana in what could be the 2026 Big Ten game of the year. It's a rematch of the 2025 Big Ten Championship Game, in which Indiana beat the Buckeyes, 13-10.
USC fans might ask themselves, "Which team should we want to win?" Would it benefit the Trojans more if Ohio State won, if Indiana won, or does it really matter at all? Reasonable people can and will disagree on this, but our view is simple: It's better for USC if Ohio State wins this game.
Our explanation is as follows: USC hosts Ohio State but visits Indiana. Being brutally honest and realistic, USC has a better chance of beating OSU than Indiana. Therefore, anything which increases the Trojans' chances of being able to beat Ohio State is good for the Men of Troy.
USC hosts Ohio State on October 31, and then plays Indiana two weeks later on November 14. With OSU and Indiana playing on October 17, a Buckeye win will take some pressure off Ohio State when it comes to the Los Angeles Coliseum two weeks later. An Indiana win will make the USC game hugely important for Ohio State, maybe a must-win and certainly a more urgent one.

Newcastle United changed shirts in the first half of their pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen.
The hosts walked out in their black and white home kit, which has a blue trim, but decided to ditch it during the first hydration break at St James' Park on Saturday.
There was an apparent colour clash with Bayer Leverkusen's away kit, which is mint with a blue pattern, so Newcastle players put on their lilac third strip instead.
The German side went on to win the game 2-1.

Bangladesh moved within touching distance of one of the biggest Test victories in their history after reducing Australia to 161/4 at stumps on Day 3 of the first Test at Marrara Stadium on Saturday. The hosts remain 67 runs behind Bangladesh's first-innings total of 426, leaving the visitors needing just six more wickets to secure a historic Test victory on Australian soil.
Cameron Green remained unbeaten on 43, while Alex Carey was not out on 19 as Australia battled to survive the final session. However, the hosts still face the daunting task of first erasing the deficit before setting Bangladesh a target in the fourth innings.

Preston scored late on through substitute Jusef Erabi, but the home side held on to secure a crucial opening weekend victory at home.
Bolton started the game as the brighter of the two sides and it was the home side who struck first. John McAtee raced onto a ball over the top and fired a shot on goal from range.
