Liverpool are understood to have had scouts in attendance to watch one midfielder in whom they'd reportedly taken an interest during the summer transfer window.
There were reports earlier in the week that Anfield chiefs had asked Monaco to delay the proposed sale of Lamine Camara to Chelsea after the two clubs had agreed a £47m deadline day deal on which the Ligue 1 club ultimately pulled the plug (Sky Sports).
The Monegasques' sporting director Thiago Scuro apparently told the 22-year-old that he would complete a major transfer 'very soon' in what seems an attempt to keep him sweet for this season before granting him a move elswhere in 2027.
According to Graeme Bailey for TEAMtalk, Liverpool had scouts watching at the Parc des Princes on Friday night as they kept tabs on the Monaco midfielder in their Ligue 1 clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
Camara is said to have played 'a significant role' as his side came from behind to beat the European champions 2-1 and continue PSG's miserable start to the campaign.

Real Madrid coach José Mourinho had THREE players return to training this Sunday (6), on the eve of the team's Champions League debut.
Tchouaméni, Thiago Pitarch, and Endrick trained normally. The trio will still be re-evaluated in the coming days.
According to Marca, of the three, Thiago Pitarch and Endrick have the best chances of returning.
Real Madrid will host Inter Milan on Tuesday (8) at 4 p.m. at the Bernabéu.
Endrick, therefore, could make his debut under José Mourinho.

U.S. striker Folarin Balogun has been left out of Monaco's squad for the Conference League amid uncertainty over his future after the collapse of his proposed transfer to Everton this week.
Balogun also will miss Monaco's match at Paris Saint-Germain in the French league on Friday after being omitted from the group traveling up to the capital.
Monaco said Balogun was back in group training. He hasn't featured in any of the team's four games so far this season.
The American striker was close to joining Everton for a reported 40 million pounds ($54 million) on Tuesday — the last day of the summer transfer window for most leagues in Europe — but opted to pull out of a deal because he felt uncomfortable that the English club raised doubts about his health in a medical examination, Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro said.
Monaco is under pressure to sell Balogun, or another of its top players, because the club needs to generate money to comply with the French league's financial rules.

It could only have come from the heart of the Massa. And so it was, amid the Street of Fire created by the supporters, that Galo's new third kit came to life last Tuesday (1st). Tattoo artist Thiago Scap and supporter Lucas Gusmão wore the kit for the first time among the Atlético fans who guided the Club bus's arrival at Arena MRV. Inside the stadium, rapper Djonga was also one of the first to wear the new shirt, straight from the stands. Now, Nike and Atlético officially present all the details of the new kit for the season. Inspired by one of the most striking traditions of Atlético supporters, the new shirt celebrates the 'Street of Fire,' the blazing human corridor of flares, pyrotechnics, and chants created by the Massa to welcome the team bus before major matches.
FROM THE FIRE OF THE STREETS TO THE OFFICIAL SHIRT
Born in the narrow streets around Horto, consecrated at Mineirão, and perpetuated at Arena MRV, the Street of Fire is the ultimate moment when the Atleticano's unshakable belief becomes unconditional support. It is the ritual in which the first goal starts being scored outside the stadium, building an unbreakable bond between supporters and players.
The new third shirt translates that energy burning in the streets and in the hearts of Atleticanos into high-performance design. The same flame that guides the bus's arrival now dresses the team on the pitch.
"The Street of Fire represents the connection between Atlético and the Massa: the ability to turn passion into strength for the team. The third shirt carries that flame beyond the streets and beyond matchdays, as a permanent symbol of the energy the supporters bring into the stadium," says Renato Aguiar, marketing director at Fisia, Nike's official distributor in Brazil.

A deserved opener from Kevin Schade (£6.0m) was almost enough to secure all three points and continue Brentford's very promising start to the season.
The German cleverly flicked in Keane Lewis-Potter's (£5.5m) cross just before half-time but, despite having comfortably more attempts (22 v 12), penalty-area efforts (17 v 6) and shots on target (5 v 2) than Leeds United, Keith Andrews' side were denied the win by Dominic Calvert-Lewin's (£6.0m) equaliser.
Igor Thiago (£8.0m) almost restored the lead immediately, with two efforts in quick succession. The Brazilian has done everything but score so far, missing a spot-kick in Gameweek 1 and spurning five close-range shots on Sunday.
However, his 1.6 million FPL owners may want to resist an early sale. The underlying numbers are encouraging and he netted twice in last season's home victory over Sunderland, who are about to visit Gtech Community Stadium.
Kristoffer Ajer (£4.5m) accumulated 17 defensive contribution (DefCon) actions, meaning the Norwegian is one of only four defenders to have reached the threshold in both Gameweeks.

José Mourinho spoke at a press conference ahead of this Friday's match against Real Betis Balompié.
This is what the coach said about Asencio: "I spoke to him when I arrived regarding things from the past. Since I arrived, I no longer speak about off-field situations. At Valdebebas he is an exemplary professional; when he was well, ***** ody trained more or better than him. Now he is the first to arrive and the last to leave. But a Real Madrid player is a Real Madrid player 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 12 months a year. Everything you do outside still reflects on Real Madrid. It continues to damage the prestige of a club that is untouchable. I'm not happy, and everyone makes mistakes, but repeated mistakes are different."
"The club has opened an investigation. As long as the investigation is open, I see him as a Real Madrid player. He is injured and will remain so for a couple of weeks. That helps keep me out of this problem."
Later, Mou spoke about Messi's retirement from the national team: "Talking about Messi is complicated. There are no words. He has been what we have all seen; he is one of those players you are going to miss. We'll have to watch some MLS matches, which I don't like very much. There are players you always miss. And we know what he means."
"Many work with me at some point, but even the ones who don't come up, we pay a lot of attention to them. They have done a great job in recent years and the result is that they have moved up to the first team... Thiago... and the many millions that Real Madrid has brought in through transfers that aren't really transfers, because in the end Real Madrid gets the players back whenever it wants to bring them back. As the season develops, with suspensions, injuries... opportunities will always come. I know them better every day and we are in daily contact with Manu and La Fábrica. And all the kids can be... I'm not going to take all of them, but they can all be excited about moving up to the first team."

Folarin Balogun's £40 million ($54 million) move to Everton from Monaco collapsed hours before the transfer window closed because the United States striker pulled out over his "treatment" by the Premier League side, the Ligue 1 club's managing director said on Wednesday.
Balogun -- who was at the centre of controversy at the World Cup after US President Donald Trump successfully intervened to force FIFA to suspend a red card so he could play against Belgium in the last 16 -- had undergone a medical in England before Everton started to raise some concerns about his fitness.
Although the Premier League side decided to proceed with the deal -- after a couple of hours of discussions between the two clubs' medical departments -- Balogun pulled the plug himself.
"Five minutes before the close of the (English) transfer window... I signed the contract, and Everton signed the contract," Monaco managing director Thiago Scuro told reporters.
"At the last moment, the player decided not to sign.

LAS VEGAS – Dana White is keeping his mouth shut and letting "Big Mouth" do the talking.
One week to the day after White cryptically dropped financial numbers for Dana White's Contender Series' all-time pay leader among fighters who never contended for a UFC ****** le, the UFC CEO was asked if he could confirm Holland that is indeed the man he previously referenced.
"I never said it was Kevin Holland that was the $11 million man, but Kevin Holland has done pretty well," White told reporters including MMA Junkie at a post-fight news conference at Meta APEX. "I love Kevin."
Smiling through much of his answer, White detailed his long-standing professional relationship with Holland.
"You know the whole history with me and Kevin," White said. "I didn't pick him. I said he had a big mouth and he should've focused on whatever. We were in matchmaking one day. I don't remember who fell out. It was Thiago (Santos' opponent). I said, 'Call Big Mouth and see if Big Mouth will take the fight.' We called him, he took the fight, and here we are with Kevin Holland."

Thiago Pitarch was one of the major positives to emerge from a disappointing last season for Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old La Fabrica midfield prodigy made his first-team debut under Alvaro Arbeloa and soon became a regular starter, even overtaking an established player like Eduardo Camavinga.
Pitarch further enhanced his reputation during the summer, starring for the Spain national team in their U19 European Championship success.
However, the youngster was dealt with a cruel setback when he returned to train under new manager Jose Mourinho as he suffered an injury early into pre-season.
It has been over five weeks since Pitarch has been out of action, and according to journalist Alvaro Esteban, the Real Madrid midfield prospect is making important progress in his recovery.

After winning the first two games of the new season, against Espanyol on the road and Real Sociedad at home, Real Madrid are set to face the newly-promoted Malaga in their next La Liga game, which is scheduled to take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.
The Merengues have already been training for this game for some days, and Jose Mourinho held the latest training session ahead of this game on Saturday. As has been the case since the start of the season, the Portuguese coach will remain without several players, including Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, Raul Asencio, Aurelien Tchouameni, Thiago Pitarch, Rodrygo, and Endrick.
Tchouameni and Endrick's cases are not as severe as those of the other mentioned players, but they are still not at a competitive fitness level, and thus are highly likely to miss the game against Malaga. The other players continue to recover from their longer-term injuries. As a result, Mourinho called up several players from the academy, including Sergio Mestre, Mario Rivas, Cestero, and Alexis Ciria to fill up his ranks.
Meanwhile, Diario AS reports that there was another surprising presence at Valdebebas during this training session, i.e., the Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos. The former Merengue defender and captain visited the club's training facilities during this session.
The Spaniard is currently without a club after having ended his time with the Mexican side Monterrey. Several years after his departure from the Spanish capital, he still remains one of the most beloved players in the history of the white club.

Real Madrid return to the Santiago Bernabeu tonight as they host Real Sociedad in their postponed Matchday 1 fixture, with Jose Mourinho looking to make it two La Liga wins from two.
Madrid opened their campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Espanyol, where Jude Bellingham scored before summer signing Carlos Espi grabbed a dramatic late winner.
Mourinho will now take charge of his first competitive game at the Bernabeu since returning to the club. The manager still has several absentees to contend with.
Aurelien Tchouameni and Endrick remain unavailable after continuing to train away from the group, while Rodrygo, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, Raul Asencio and Thiago Pitarch are also out.
Mourinho has nevertheless named a strong 23-man squad, with Eduardo Camavinga available and youngsters Jorge Cestero, Alexis Ciria and Mario Rivas included.

Real Madrid have made a firm decision over the future of one of their most promising young midfielders, with Lille seeing an approach for Thiago Pitarch rejected.
According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, the Ligue 1 club identified the 19-year-old Real Madrid talent as a potential replacement for Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is set to join Manchester City in a deal worth an initial €95 million plus €5 million in add-ons.
However, despite the interest from France, Real Madrid have no intention of allowing Pitarch to leave.
The midfielder only recently signed an improved contract and the club's decision to reject Lille's approach shows how his situation has changed in recent weeks.
Lille's interest comes at a difficult moment for the French side.

Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham crash badly on their debut against Brentford: 3-0 thanks to goals from Lewis-Potter, Janelt and Kayode. A defeat that could have been even heavier, given that Igor Thiago missed a penalty with the result already beyond doubt.
The numbers tell the story of the match well: Brentford had 26 shots, 8 on target, compared to Spurs' 9 overall (they also had 4 on target, but almost all from Moore from the same position).
The first half was completely dominated by the Bees, who cut through Tottenham's defence with a fine team move: Sangaré drilled in a low cross for Lewis-Potter, who scored from the edge of the six-yard box.
The 2-0 came after Richarlison lost the ball in his own half, Jensen shot from distance, and Kinsky's poor save (made first-choice keeper despite last year's Champions League disaster) allowed Janelt to score.
Spurs had zero shots on target in the first half: they managed only two attempts, both from outside the box. A disastrous opening period, so much so that Kayode alone managed more touches in the box than the entire Tottenham team.

Things turned ugly following Spain's 1-0 win over Argentina at the 2026 World Cup final. After the final whistle, a massive scuffle broke out, in which Argentina's Leandro Paredes grabbed Spain's Eric García by the throat.
The brawl was eventually broken up, but FIFA quickly announced it would investigate the situation a day after the contest.
That investigation concluded Friday, as FIFA announced a number of punishments as a result of the brawl. In a statement, FIFA said the Argentina FA would be fined $321,000 and would have to play its next two games with limited fans in attendance. Additionally, four players and one team official were issued suspensions for their roles in the fracas.
Paredes received the largest suspension, and will miss the next 10 matches after grabbing Garcia by the throat. Paredes also received a fine of $90,000 for his actions.
In addition to Paredes, Nahuel Molina, Thiago Almada and Pablo Martín Páez Gavira were the three other players to be fined and suspended as a result of the brawl. Molina will miss the next seven matches and was also fined $90,000. Almada and Gavira were each suspended one match and fined $30,000.

Douglas Luiz is back at Juventus, and this time, it looks like he'll stick around.
During his half-season loan spell back at Aston Villa earlier in the year, the Brazilian showcased why the Old Lady shell out north of €50 million for him two summers ago. However, they were only looking temporary reinforcement in place of their injured players and did not sign him back permanently.
Upon his return to Turin, Luiz has found circumstances markedly different to the ones that made him a pariah at the club. His ostracism came about during Thiago Motta's ill-fated term at the club, while Igor Tudor never really took an interest in him. And while Luciano Spalletti did like his profile and what he brought to the table, he never really got the chance.
Until now. Luiz has featured consistently throughout pre-season, having been appreciated by Spalletti and Juve faithful alike. Spalletti likes his ability to dictate the tempo of the game at will, and in his preferred 4-2-3-1 setup Luiz is seemingly fitting in nicely.
Given Khéphren Thuram's persistent knee struggles, he could end up being relied upon even more, and is currently, arguably, one of the first names on the team sheet as Juve prepare to kick off their Serie A campaign against Frosinone this Sunday.

Arthur Fery failed to replicate his Wimbledon heroics as he marked his return to the court with a straight-sets defeat by fifth seed Alex de Minaur in the Cincinnati Open on Monday.
Fery, who shot into the world's top 50 after his stunning run to the semi-final at the All England Club, was playing his first match since that improbable run was ended at the hands of Alexander Zverev.
And Fery showed signs of the same fighting quality as he hit back from 5-1 down in the second set to force a tie-break, before ultimately falling to a 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) defeat.
The match was subject to three rain delays as the weather continued to play havoc with the schedule in Ohio, although there were earlier wins for Flavio Cobolli and Novak Djokovic's conqueror Thiago Agustin Tirante.
In the women's competition, seventh seed Iga Swiatek stormed back from a bad start, winning 12 of the last 14 games to defeat Maria Sakkari of Greece 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Real Madrid academy midfielder Thiago Pitarch is set to remain at the club after Jose Mourinho stepped in to block a proposed move to Fulham.
According to an update from Alberto Pereiro, relayed by Defensa Central, the Portuguese manager personally told Pitarch not to leave and informed the youngster that he will be an important part of his plans next season.
The development is significant given the growing uncertainty surrounding Pitarch's future.
Fulham, now managed by former Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa, had been keen to reunite with the midfielder in the Premier League.
Arbeloa knows Pitarch well from their time together at Real Madrid, having handed the youngster his senior debut. His interest in bringing him to Fulham was therefore far from surprising.

Liverpool have reportedly made their first moves towards a massive prospect from Argentina. Keep an eye on this one.
Liverpool are plainly trying to snap up the best youngsters from South America where they can. The Reds completed a deal for Samuel Martinez this summer, one of the biggest prospects in Colombia.
And we've seen they try (and largely fail) to do the same with Brazil's star talents over the last few years. Now they've got their eyes on an Argentinian prospect - one who could be among the best to come out of the country right now.
That's according to Sport Witness, who claim Liverpool are eyeing 16-year-old Thiago Veron. The player, who is at Independiente typically plays as an attacking midfield but can also play on the wing.
Now, Veron is very young and unproven at this stage. The report is clear to get across that Liverpool aren't pushing to sign the teenager just yet, nor have they started any negotiations with anyone.

Novak Djokovic revealed he has been dealing with an ongoing health condition after his surprise second-round defeat at the Cincinnati Open.
The 39-year-old said the condition was exacerbated by the heat and humidity in Ohio as he visibly struggled in a 6-2, 4-6, 4-6 loss to Argentina's world number 50 Thiago Agustin Tirante on Saturday.
World number five Djokovic, playing his first match since losing to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals in July, slumped to his hands and knees before taking a medical timeout midway through the second set.
He told reporters: "Congrats to my opponent. It was not an enjoyable match for me, for sure. The way I felt ... Not the first and I guess not the last time, but it is what it is."
The 24-time grand slam champion added: "It's just a condition that I have, health-wise, that has been bothering me for the past couple of years.
