SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Draymond Green has agreed to a one-year, $27.7 million deal to return to the Golden State Warriors, a person familiar with the decision told The ******* ociated Press on Tuesday.
Green will sign the contract that essentially matches the deal he opted out of last month before the Warriors made an unsuccessful bid to sign LeBron James, the person said.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hadn't been announced.
ESPN first reported the deal.
Green is now set to play his 15th season with the Warriors and if he plays in 51 games he will join Stephen Curry as the only players in franchise history to appear in at least 1,000 contests.

The Warriors weren't able to land LeBron, but they kept their defensive stalwart in town by handing Green a one-year, $27.7 million extension, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
With James heading to Philly, questions surrounding Curry's future have begun to emerge. Curry, 38, has a limited ***** le window, and yet the Warriors' roster is much thinner than it has been historically. If Golden State doesn't compete in 2026-27, it wouldn't be shocking to see Curry try and win a ***** le elsewhere, as he's hitting unrestricted free agency after the season. Perhaps he takes a discount deal like LeBron to play for a contender.

ESPN Warriors insider Anthony Slater said Wednesday on NBA Today that Golden State is pessimistic about its chances of signing James. The Warriors have kept a roster spot open and would welcome the four-time NBA champion, but they do not believe his decision is leaning in their direction.
“They’ve just not thought they’re at the top of the list,” Slater said. “I talked to somebody last night that basically said they’ve given no sign or hint that it’s going to happen.”

The deal is reportedly worth $3.9 million, with the longtime Golden State Warriors center returning to the Pacific Division after one season with the New Orleans Pelicans. Looney could slide into the Lakers’ rotation as a backup center for the newly-acquired Walker Kessler.
Looney played in just 21 games last year with the Pelicans but could find himself in more game action with Los Angeles. Kessler, who the Lakers acquired to be the franchise center, played in just five games last season and has played in 70 games in just one of his four NBA seasons.
UCLA had Looney on their roster for the 2014-2015 season, where the 6’9” center played in 36 games, scoring 11.6 points and grabbing 9.2 rebounds per game. Looney plays a much different game now, with a hip injury suffered at UCLA severely impacting Looney’s lateral movement.

The Golden State Warriors are trying to position themselves for one final run at an NBA championship. With Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Steve Kerr nearing the end of their current window, the franchise is pursuing some of the biggest names available this offseason.
One of those names is LeBron James, who remains the most intriguing player on the market. The Warriors have been heavily linked to James throughout the offseason, and Green is reportedly meeting with him this week.
“LeBron James and Draymond Green are meeting up as the NBA's all-time leading scorer looks to join a new team for the 2026-27 season, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Charania reported that James and Green are spending some time here together this week at an undisclosed location during a Tuesday appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Bleacher Report’s Zach Bachar wrote.
Golden State's interest in James has been well documented. The Warriors have also been connected to a potential trade for Anthony Davis as they look to reshape their roster.

"I think LeBron's been open-minded, but the Warriors' whole plan going into free agency was, 'Okay, let's see if we can get Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis,'" said ESPN's Shams Charania on Stephen A. Smith's radio show. "I think the big draw for LeBron with the Warriors would be seeing if there's an avenue to be a package deal with Davis," added Charania. "Short of that, I don't think the Warriors are high on his list, and I think the Warriors themselves believe they're not on that list unless they're able to trade for Anthony Davis."

If the Golden State Warriors end up with LeBron James, there would be a lot that has to go on for both sides.
Ultimately, James would have to take a cheap contract, the Warriors would have to guarantee that he's going to be one of the faces of the franchise on the court, and he has to feel like he has a chance to win, unless he truly just wants to play with his friends toward the back end of his career, which I can't necessarily say that he hasn't deserved.
James, who doesn't have anything left to prove in this game, could have retired 10 years ago and been one of the greatest to ever step on the court, has some tough decisions to make this offseason.
If he wants to play with the Warriors, he has every right to do so, but Golden State has to hope its pitch is strong enough to entice him. According to the latest report, the Warriors have a pretty solid pitch, and it has everything to do with being friends with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
