The 10-year Treasury yield hit 5% in September 2026, its highest since 2007, intensifying pressure on stock valuations.
Buffett's gravity rule reframes a 5% Treasury as a 20x earnings multiple, which is far cheaper than the 45x bonds carried at 2.15% in 2017.
Buffett warned that at 21% short rates in 1982, even stocks at 6x earnings looked unattractive against the risk-free alternative.

Treasury yields have pushed to levels that force a conversation investors have not needed to have in years. The 10-year Treasury note traded at 5% on the morning of September 15, 2026, according to CNBC, and CNBC reported the 10-year yield rising to its highest level since 2007. On a settled basis, the daily 10-year series last printed 4.96% on September 11, 2026, the highest reading in the trailing year.

An AI approval in minutes means nothing if you retire before closing. Lenders must re-verify employment within 10 business days of the note date.
Retirement income like Social Security can replace a salary for qualifying purposes, and an SSA award letter alone may be enough to close.
A rate lock protects only the interest rate, so disclose your retirement date early and build the loan file around income that survives closing day.

Applied Digital turned negative for the year after a 24% monthly slide, while peers Core Scientific and Cipher Mining each fell between 4% and 5% on Tuesday despite staying positive year to date.
The sector ETF DTCR fell just 0.6% as selling stays concentrated in leveraged buildout names, not the broader infrastructure basket.
Despite $36 billion in contracted lease value and strong Q4 results, Applied Digital's $2.7 billion debt load raises dilution risk as its share price falls.

Applied Digital's slide Tuesday afternoon matters most for what it does to the year. Applied Digital (NASDAQ:APLD) stock is down 4% to $23.72, pushing the year-to-date figure to a decline of 3%. That's a stark reversal for a name that was among the market's most favored artificial intelligence (AI) capacity plays earlier in 2026, and it caps a month in which the group has bled steadily lower.

Chipotle stock dropped 5% Tuesday with no confirmed news behind the move, but remains up 5% for the month, pointing to profit taking not panic.
The CDC confirmed no ongoing consumer risk from the summer salmonella outbreak, and Chipotle stock actually rose while that investigation was open.
Broad benchmarks and QSR peers fell only between 0.5 and 3% on Tuesday, isolating Chipotle's move as stock-specific, with the next real catalyst on October 28.

Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG) stock is down 5% to $35.32 in Tuesday morning trading, a sharp break from a stretch that had the shares grinding higher through the first half of September. The move stands out because it doesn't match a broad tape decline or a food and beverage sector rout of similar magnitude. That forces the question of what specifically is hitting Chipotle today when the peer group is barely giving ground.

White House chief of staff Susie Wiles is "cancer free," she announced on X on Sept. 16, 2026. "Some personal news I'm grateful to share. After a medical appointment at the Mayo Clinic this week, my pathology results came back clear," she explained.

Wiles was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in March and told the New York Times that her prognosis was "strong." Wiles did not disclose at the time what treatment she would undergo, but said it would last several weeks — during which time she planned to continue working. Noting that one in eight American women develops breast cancer at some point in their lives, Wiles posted on X at the time: "Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks."
A breast cancer diagnosis is life-altering, but Wiles's comments highlighted the progress that's been made in recent years. Breast cancer is now detected at Stage 0 or 1 — before it has spread — in the majority of cases. Survival rates have risen dramatically, but "the treatments we use to treat early-stage breast cancer have become more tailored" and less disruptive to women's lives, Dr. Lynn Dengel, a University of Virginia surgical oncologist, told Yahoo in March.
"Because [Wiles] was taking care of her health [and getting screened], not only will her prognosis be better, but it will probably minimize what treatment she has to go through and will benefit her work-life and overall balance," Dengel said. She added that most of her patients are diagnosed early and can continue to work while undergoing breast cancer treatment, reducing the financial burden and overall disruption to their lives.
Wiles was diagnosed at age 68 — slightly older than the median age (62) when most women learn they have breast cancer. More than 380,000 American women are diagnosed with some form of breast cancer each year, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS).
Breast cancer remains the most common form of cancer among women in the U.S., except for skin cancers. And rates are rising. But there's good news: More women are surviving the disease. Treatments have also improved, becoming tolerable enough that many women still work, as Wiles intends to do. Here's what to know about the disease, why rates are rising and how women can reduce their risks.

Iran is deliberately targeting U.S. naval drones in the Strait of Hormuz to gather intelligence on American surveillance capabilities and learn how to evade U.S. defenses, drone experts warned Tuesday.
Tehran's strategy is coordinated, they said, and involves exposing critical insights into U.S. Navy theater operations in the world's most vulnerable maritime choke point even when classified data is uncompromised.
The warning came as tensions escalated in the Gulf region Sept. 14 after the U.S. military destroyed two Iranian small boats amid an attempted seizure by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of an American unmanned surface vessel (USV) patrolling the area, according to reports.

XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) is currently trading at $1.28, down 9.4% in the past 24 hours and marking the worst performance among major cryptocurrencies. On September 15, the Senate voted at 2:15 p.m. ET on whether to open debate on the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at making XRP's commodity status under U.S. law permanent. Unfortunately, the motion failed with a vote of 49 to 50.
Today at 2 p.m. ET, the Federal Reserve is set to announce its interest rate decision, with CME FedWatch indicating a 92% chance of the first rate hike in three years. Additionally, XRP fell below $1.355, a level it had held for five consecutive sessions. This raises the question of what caused XRP's downturn and where the selling will end.

AI investors are weighing warnings from technology executives about the safety risks posed by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. However, some believe that slowing AI development could leave the US behind China and other competitors in the global race. Brad Gerstner, founder and CEO of Altimeter Capital, said on CNBC that he supports AI safety measures but believes some fears are being exaggerated to advance a political agenda.
"I've not talked to a single person in AI who says, full steam ahead, disregard safety," Gerstner said. "It turns out we all care about kids. We all care about the future of the country. We know the massive benefits it offers, but we also want to take the extra time to make sure that we do this safely. But what I didn't like this week is these hyperbolic scare tactics, which I think are hiding behind a political agenda. We learn that all of this catastrophizing about data centers may in fact, have had support from the CCP. Right? So I want a little investigation. Who is behind all of this negativity? Is it coordinated? Right? Where is the money coming from?"
Altimeter's second-quarter 13F filings show that the fund opened new positions in several technology and AI-related companies, including Qualcomm (QCOM) and Micron Technology (MU).
Altimeter bought 1.88 million Qualcomm shares valued at about $347.9 million as of June 30. The position accounted for 3.54% of the fund's reported US equity portfolio. It also acquired 209,520 Micron shares worth roughly $241.8 million, representing 2.46% of the portfolio.

Nokia (NYSE:NOK) stock is rising in early Wednesday trading, up 6% to $10.39 after the company said its artificial intelligence-powered radio access network (AI-RAN) platform is moving from evaluation to live field trials at eight global operators. Dejounte Murray believes that Russell Westbrook is the greatest point guard of all time originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Russell Westbrook shocked the basketball world when he announced his retirement in the summer of 2026. That ended one of the best careers of the modern era, especially for a point guard. Unfortunately for Westbrook, he did not win a championship, but it seems his legacy is doing well amongst his peers.
Dejounte Murray is a standout point guard over the past few years, and he is never shy about giving his thoughts. This time, he made sure to give the Oklahoma City Thunder legend his flowers, to the point that he is calling the 2017 MVP the greatest point guard of all time.
Throughout his career, Murray has looked up to a lot of players. Now that he is with the New Orleans Pelicans, Murray has integrated plenty of lessons he's learned from a lot of top-tier point guards in the league's history. For him, Westbrook is at the peak of the position he plays.
Westbrook has an all-time legacy, but a lot of people would argue that he is not better than some players like Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Stephen Curry, who are considered by many as the greatest point guards in NBA history.

Drew Brees went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this summer, but he considered coming out of retirement with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. The former New Orleans Saints quarterback explored joining the Denver Broncos ahead of January's AFC Championship Game, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.
The conversations followed Bo Nix's fractured ankle in Denver's Jan. 17 playoff victory over the Buffalo Bills. Then-offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and offensive **** istant Pete Carmichael, two of Brees' longtime coaches in New Orleans, contacted him about a potential return.
Brees had turned 47 just two days before Nix was injured. He wanted to test his body before committing to a comeback, but wrist discomfort during his workout ended the possibility, Schefter reported.
The initial talks happened without Sean Payton's involvement. Lombardi and Carmichael first wanted to see whether Brees was interested, and Payton didn't learn about their conversations until the offseason, according to Schefter.
Had Brees felt ready to return, Denver would've signed him and evaluated whether he or Jarrett Stidham would start, Schefter noted. One Broncos source explained to ESPN how the team viewed the possibility: "At a minimum, you sign (Brees), he's 1A or 1B. And Drew's point was: 'I know how to win a game like that.'"

Matt LaFleur spent his entire offseason promising Green Bay Packers would finally learn how to finish games. Sunday in Minneapolis put that promise to the test immediately. The Packers built a healthy second-half lead, the same type of cushion that slipped away repeatedly last season, and it vanished again. What happened next, both on the field and in the press conference that followed, left fans furious.
Green Bay looked in control for most of Sunday's opener at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Packers led 22-10 in the third quarter behind Jordan Love, who threw for 387 yards and two touchdowns. Then everything unraveled. Minnesota Vikings scored 29 unanswered points in the second half, turning a comfortable lead into a 39-22 defeat.
The turning point came in the fourth quarter. With Green Bay up 25-17 after a penalty wiped a Vikings field goal off the board, LaFleur chose to go for it on fourth-and-1 instead of taking the points. Love was stopped on a quarterback sneak, and Minnesota took over on downs. The Vikings never let go from there.

"The name, to me, had to have a martial arts meaning to it. When I thought about Ki, 'Kiai' is the very first thing that you learn in martial arts — your inner yell. 'Ki' meaning 'inner,' 'Ai' meaning 'yell.' So, it had to be something 'martial arts energy.' The spirit of all life force revolves around Ki. That was the genesis of the name.
"We put it to the test and worked on it, and came out with some great imagery. I'm really happy with the name."

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints are moving on to Week 2 sounding more emboldened than disappointed by their season-opening loss to Detroit.
"We're in a good place," Saints veteran safety Justin Reid said Monday, a day after the 31-30 overtime loss to the Lions. "When we click on all cylinders, it's evident what we can do."
After erasing a three-touchdown deficit in the second half, the Saints matched the Lions' touchdown in overtime and tried to win the game with a 2-point conversion that failed when second-year quarterback Tyler Shough's pass fell incomplete.
"A lot of teams would have folded," Reid said. "That's not the way that we're built."
Second-year coach Kellen Moore said the Saints "get to learn a lot from that game."

The company has combined its hybrid-cloud expertise with foundation models and deep government and scientific partnerships, while its Prithvi family of open models now spans weather, geospatial, and lunar data.
That gives IBM a credible position in domain-specific AI, particularly where the stakes are too high for generic models to wing it. The season opener is a game quarterback C.J. Stroud will probably want to forget.
While he had 274 passing yards and two touchdowns, he also had two fumbles, including one on the final drive that doomed the Houston Texans in their opener against the Buffalo Bills.
Stroud is already focusing on turning the page to Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
"It's part of the NFL," Stroud said. "You have to be able to learn from your mistakes and then go onto the next week and try to get a win. We have a tough Bengals team coming in here. They're really good. We have to be on our P's and Q's, try to win that game. We'll fix our issues by tonight and tomorrow, turn the page and keep moving forward. One thing that DeMeco [Ryans] said in the locker room that I agree with is, we're going to keep our chins high and our chests poked out. We did a lot of positive things, do we wish we won it? Yes. Things went from bad to worse when Malik Hooker went down with an injury, and on Monday, the team got the latest update on his potential recovery process.
"#Cowboys S Malik Hooker fractured a bone in his forearm and he's consulting with a hand specialist to learn his recovery time, sources say. While some breaks can mean a player is out six weeks, the hope is based on the specific bone and break, it's quicker than that," reported NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter.
