BOSTON – Joe Lauzon's MMA swan song was likely in October 2019. He raised his hands over his head as he upset the much younger Jonathan Peace at TD Garden.
On Saturday, it may have been his combat sports swan song. While the pose was the same, the parting imagery was much different. Lauzon (1-0) made his bareknuckle boxing debut when he dropped opponent Stash Kuykendall (0-3) five times en route to a TKO stoppage at 0:49 of Round 2. This bout took place at Fenway Park – the historic Green Monster in the background.
Lauzon, 42, still can pack a house, or in this case a ballpark. Custom Lauzon jerseys, looking very similar to that of the Red Sox's, filled the crowd behind home plate.
Kuykendall, 34, hung tough as he was repeatedly dropped with punches. Each knockdown looked like it'd be the last, but Kuykendall kept getting back up – until he couldn't.
After his win, Lauzon sported some swelling and lacerations. He dind't commit one way or another to if Saturday's bout will be his last, and teased that if BKFC comes back to Fenway in 2027, he might consider it.

Since the 2026 recruiting cycle came to an end, no greater debate regarding the 2027 class has been quite as heated as the one surrounding the top three running back prospects headlining the class.
Georgia five-star commit Kemon Spell, Tennessee five-star commit David Gabriel Georges and Texas five-star commit Landen Williams-Callis have all been regarded for the past year as three of the best running back prospects we've seen for some time.
All three enter the season as USA TODAY Sports preseason All-America first-team selections as well.
Debate over who is the best of those three is up for interpretation regardless of your fandom or just where you're from. Industry rankings have each of the three within striking distance of each other entering their senior seasons.
While we won't declare a definitive winner in that conversation, USA TODAY Sports will track how each of the three fares week to week as they wrap up prolific high school careers and prepare for the next level.

If you're an avid reader of Acme Packing Company, you know that I feel like the Green Bay Packers show their cards a bit when it comes to pre-draft visitors. Since 2022, when the Packers appeared to have changed their visit strategy from almost being used exclusively on undrafted free agent rookie recruiting to more of a mix of picks and free agent prospects, Green Bay has signed, traded for, drafted or claimed on waivers 36 players who were pre-draft visitors with the team.
Often, when these players become available (some of them never become available, because they were high draft picks who were picked before the Packers were on the clock), Green Bay ends up targeting them in some way or another. While players like Darian Kinnard, John FitzPatrick and Josh Whyle weren't originally picked by the Packers, they did find their way to Green Bay later in their careers.
So, when a pre-draft visitor becomes available, my radar always goes up, especially if it's the first time the Packers have had a shot at bringing them to Green Bay since draft weekend. That's the case right now with New York Giants running back Damon Bankston, who was waived by the team on Saturday.
Bankston took a pre-draft visit with the Packers this spring, but ended up signing with the Giants for $115,000 guaranteed, far more than Green Bay spent on their UDFA running back signing, Jaden Nixon — who was added to the offseason roster for $15,000 guaranteed.
The New Mexico product was an interesting sleeper prospect in the class of 2026, as he posted 635 rushing yards (5.6 yards per carry), five touchdowns on the ground and caught 31 ****** for 397 yards and three touchdowns (12.8 yards per reception, a very high number for backs) through the air in his one year of FBS football. The numbers don't exactly look incredible from a volume perspective, but he was very efficient in the 9-4 Lobos' running back by committee (and he led the team in yards from scrimmage).

One of the strangest scheduling anomalies in all of sports is about to have its swan song this weekend in college football's befuddling and charming Week 0.
The fact that a Week 0 even exists is quintessential college football in that it couldn't really exist anywhere else and make any sense at all. However, it has been alive for years, allowing a select handful of teams an opportunity to begin the regular season a week before everybody else. The weekend is open to anyone playing an international game (TCU-UNC in Dublin, Ireland) and anyone playing an away game at Hawaii to compensate for their extra travel. The NCAA can also provide a waiver for games, although that is rare. This season, it was given to NC State and Virginia as they were originally scheduled to play their season opener in Brazil before it was moved back stateside.
However, 2026 will be the last year that the sport enjoys an appetizer before the regular season truly kicks off in full. The FBS Oversight Committee approved legislation on Friday that will move the calendar up one week so that all teams begin during the week that has served as Week 0.
"Earlier this year, the FBS Calendar Subgroup presented recommendations to the committee to amend the regular season and the off-campus recruiting model," the NCAA briefing said. "In response to those recommendations, a new FBS first-contest date has been adopted and will take effect in the 2027 season. The season will begin on the Thursday of what is now designated Week 0 and end on the Saturday after Thanksgiving."
This year's Week 0 consists of eight games. And while none of them are true barnburners, it's a nice, gentle way to start the regular season. And with American fans starved for any kind of football that matters, we will gladly sit down and watch New Mexico State travel to Florida State in primetime.

January was a busy month for the Oregon Ducks. Not only did they beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Orange Bowl and lose to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Peach Bowl, but they lost 30 players from the 2025 roster — plus one recruit — to the transfer portal.
The losses were especially felt along the defensive line and edge rusher positions, with seven guys that fit in that category departing for other programs. But such is life for a big-time program in college football, where an influx of blue-chip recruits commit to play for the Ducks each year.
There are only 11 players on the field at one time, making the reality of a number of talented former four- and five-stars being relegated to rotational or reserve roles a real occurrence each year for the Ducks. Having spent a year, two years, even three years in the Oregon program having not received much play time and without a viable path to play time, it's understandable for players lower on the depth chart to look elsewhere for time on the field.
That's exactly what those 30 players from last season's roster did this offseason, all of whom landed with new programs and potentially with bigger roles.

LONDON (AP) — Defending world champion Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren until at least the end of 2030, the F1 team said Saturday.
McLaren said the new deal features "a multi-year option to commit beyond that date."
Financial terms were not announced. The Press ****** ociation news agency said the British driver's new contract could be worth up to $35 million a year.
The 26-year-old Norris secured McLaren's first drivers' ****** le last year since Lewis Hamilton won his first championship in 2008.

Will Forte may be best known for making audiences laugh, but his life away from the screen is filled with unexpected stories. Born Orville Willis Forte IV, he went by Billy as a child before eventually adopting Will, the name that would follow him into his entertainment career. Long before Hollywood, his energetic personality was already evident through impressions, elaborate pranks and a competitive streak.
Growing up in California, Forte balanced comedy with athletics. He participated in football and swimming during high school and was voted "Best Personality" by his graduating class. Those early years revealed many of the qualities that would later become **** ociated with his comedy: persistence, unpredictability and a willingness to fully commit to whatever caught his attention.
Forte has also spoken publicly about living with obsessive compulsive disorder and how it can affect his behavior. One recurring tendency involves feeling compelled to complete tasks once he has started them. Whether working through a puzzle or finishing an everyday chore, walking away before reaching the end can be difficult. That intense focus has occasionally produced some unusual results outside his professional life.
One particularly memorable example involved the classic arcade game Donkey Kong. While working on a movie in 2011, Forte became fascinated with the game between scenes and devoted considerable time to improving his score. His dedication eventually became serious enough that he reportedly reached 36th place in the game's competitive rankings at one point. For someone primarily known as an actor and comedian, becoming a highly ranked Donkey Kong player was an appropriately unexpected achievement.
His personal life entered a new chapter after he met businesswoman Olivia Modling at a party in 2018. Their relationship developed away from much of Hollywood's attention, and the couple married in 2021. Texas A&M's 2028 recruiting class will take center stage this fall, as five-star quarterback Donald Tabron and four-star Edge Chance Archangel are currently the program's lone commitments heading into the 2026 season, but this is just the start for coach Mike Elko and his staff, who are set to host a growing list of blue-chip prospects in the cycle during all seven of the Aggies' home games.
Among that growing list is five-star defensive lineman Kellan Hall, who recently placed Texas A&M on his Top 12 program list and has released his unofficial visit list for the fall. He will reportedly make his way to College Station on Oct. 3 and will attend Texas A&M vs. Arkansas in Kyle Field, joining several elite 2028 recruits, including five-star safety Casey Barner.
Earlier this summer, Hall spoke to On3/Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman, raving about his first visit to College Station while providing an early preview of his unofficial visit plans with the Aggies and detailing his strong relationship with Texas A&M defensive line coaches Elijah Robinson and Tony Jerod-Eddie.
"I was on campus for a few days, so really got the chance to talk to quite a few players and other recruits. However, the highlight was the camp and working with Coach E. Rob, Coach Tony, and Coach Malik. I really like how they are intentional about giving guys work during practice and every player has a coach working with them. I saw this during camp and at practice the day I arrived."
Under Mike Elko, a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including unanimous All-American Edge Cashius Howell and defensive tackles Albert Regis and Tyler Onyedim, who were off the board in the second and third rounds, further proving that Texas A&M has become one of the top destinations for young defensive linemen and pass rushers.

The headline amount overstates what Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) would spend at its current valuation. At the August 24 closing price of $18.28, repurchasing the full 14.4 million shares would cost approximately $263.2 million before transaction costs. The share limit would become the binding constraint unless the average purchase price exceeds roughly $20.83.
The buyback is financially plausible because Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) ended June with C$1.23 billion of cash. First-half operating cash flow reached C$31.6 million, compared with a C$14.9 million outflow a year earlier, while second-quarter revenue increased to C$43.0 million from C$7.2 million.

Members of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee, a federal advisory panel appointed by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. this year, will ‌meet on Thursday to discuss their new strategic plan to reshape federal priorities in autism.
The draft plan, made public on the IACC's website last month, suggests boosting investment by the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other agencies to $747.4 million annually from $390.4 million to address a sweeping array of issues impacting people with autism and their families.
Current federal spending, relative to the economic burden of autism, is less than other diseases, such as Alzheimer's and asthma, the draft plan says.

If jurors find Lindsay Clancy not criminally responsible for strangling her three children, her civil commitment to a mental institution could come up for review every year — making it difficult to predict how long she could remain hospitalized, according to a retired judge.

When Vinod Khosla admitted in his first press conference as the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks that he has been — and continues to be — a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, it was the quote that launched a thousand reactions.
Media outlets and social media accounts had a field day with the comments made Wednesday, including the Seattle Times, New York Post, The Comeback, and Barstool Sports.
"What not to do during your opening press conference as the new Seahawks owner? Reveal you've been a Steelers fan your whole life and still watch all of their games," wrote Barstool in a post on X featuring video of Khosla's comments.
Admittedly, not the best look, even if his comments were overblown. That's probably something best left for the next time the two teams play, and only after Seattle wins.
Still, while Khosla might only be a few days into his tenure as an NFL owner, he's not wasting any time pushing back on the narrative that he's not fully committed to the Seahawks franchise.

Who's got the best high school football in the country? Texas, Florida and California have each long laid stake to that claim, but it's rare that we see good teams from those states play each other. But that's what's happening at Chaparral Stadium in Friday's much anticipated 2026 season opener between the Westlake Chaparrals and the Inglewood (Calif.) Sentinels.
Westlake is one of Texas' top programs. Inglewood is packed with FBS talent, including two defensive linemen committed to Texas A&M and Oklahoma and a defensive back who'll play at Cal. And Chaps quarterback Patton Jones is making his first start against a defense that had seven sacks in Inglewood's season opener last week.

Just one week removed from making his high school football debut for Baylor School(TN), ranked No. 10 in this week's USA TODAY Sports Super 25 rankings, Marshall Manning will miss a few weeks with a foot injury, according to Stephen Hargis of the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Hargis first reported that the freshman son of Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning will not suit up for Baylor's home game against Loudoun Sports Academy (Leesburg, Va.) in a post on X.
"He's got a foot injury and will be out a few weeks," Red Raiders coach Erik Kimrey reportedly said.
In Manning's debut against Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) on Friday, Aug. 20, he connected with junior receiver Antwaun Adams for 6 yards and a first down on his first varsity snap.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays got county approval Friday on a financing plan that will allow them to build a new stadium, a day after city officials approved their part for the $2.3 billion ballpark project that will replace the domed Tropicana Field.
The Hillsborough County Commission voted 5-2 on Friday to approve its $796 million share of the mixed-use entertainment district that includes a new 31,000-seat stadium that will be near Raymond James Stadium, home of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Rays' new stadium is expected to open in 2029. The Tampa City Council city voted 4-3 on Thursday to approve $80 million.
Rays CEO Ken Babby said the team's partnership with the county and city on the project secures the long-term future of Major League Baseball in Tampa Bay.
"We now look forward to celebrating before breaking ground with Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa on a future that has long been doubted, but will indeed happen," Babby said. "By making the Forever Home a reality, the Rays are now home forever in Tampa Bay."
The Rays have committed to contributing at least $1.3 billion, plus any cost overruns. Another $30 million will come from federal disaster recovery funds.

NEW YORK — Defense is supposed to be George Lombard Jr.'s superpower, but the Yankees rookie is in the midst of a serious fielding slump.
The shortstop now has six errors in six consecutive games after booting a ground ball in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Astros. The bizarre streak continued on a bizarre play in the eighth inning, as Lombard, on the run, bounced the ball to and nearly collided with third baseman José Caballero, who then committed an error of his own when he airmailed a throw to first.
While it was Caballero's throw that allowed a run to score, it was Lombard's half of the play that drew attention after yet another mishap. Afterward, the frustrated 21-year-old acknowledged that he needs to "clean up" his defense, especially with the Yankees trying to catch the Rays for the division lead and fend off the incoming Red Sox for the American League's top Wild Card spot.
"I don't know. It's something you're trying to figure out," Lombard, who made just one error in his first 14 MLB games, said when asked why he's had such a tough time in the field lately. "Obviously, it's not acceptable. Can't happen at this level. If you make your pitchers have to get extra outs, it just makes it way harder on us."
Meanwhile, Aaron Boone said, "I don't think so" when asked if Lombard, who has played everyday since debuting on Aug. 4, could benefit from a day off. Instead, the manager said that he has "total confidence" that Lombard will put this unusual stretch "in the rearview mirror."

The debut in the NFL was hard for Max Iheanachor; he is not treating it as a failure.
Not having participated in the Pittsburgh Steelers' first two preseason games, Iheanachor got his chance to show off against the Buffalo Bills. The debut was accompanied by blunders such as being sacked once and committing a holding foul; nevertheless, the first-round draft pick did not try to hide it but rather accepted it as part of his game.

Former Florida center Micah Handlogten has found a new home, although his return to college basketball still depends on receiving another year of eligibility.
Handlogten has committed to Ole Miss, according to multiple reports, giving the 7-foot-1-inch big man a chance to remain in the SEC after spending the past three seasons with the Gators. He entered the transfer portal in April following Florida's 2025-26 season.
One question surrounding Handlogten's eligibility is whether he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Utah Jazz. There are conflicting reports on whether Handlogten actually put pen to paper, which could hurt his case for a return to the college ranks.
Before coming to Florida, Handlogten spent his freshman year at Marshall, where he averaged 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game and was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.
He played in all three seasons he was with the Florida Gators, but a gruesome broken leg suffered in the 2024 SEC Tournament championship game kept him out for most of the following 2024-25 season. He gave up his redshirt to return in February and help Florida's frontcourt while Alex Condon dealt with an injury.

The Memphis Grizzlies have parted ways with OrthoSouth, the team announced on Aug. 28. OrthoSouth has been the Grizzlies' sports medicine partner since 2023.
When the two sides agreed to a deal in 2023, the partnership was initially for 10 years.

Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh reaffirmed the central bank's commitment to lowering consumer prices, acknowledging that inflation remains too high in a highly anticipated speech in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
During remarks at the Fed's annual conference, Warsh said that recent government data shows inflation has cooled, but "they do not tell me that underlying trends have meaningfully improved."
While stopping short of saying the Fed could raise its benchmark interest rate, Warsh also signaled that policymakers are prepared to act if inflationary pressures don't subside. Inflation has eased in recent months after reaching a 3 -year high in May, but prices remain stubbornly above the Fed's 2% annual target.

DeSantis on Thursday did not dispute the legitimacy of the secret grand jury report obtained and published online by CBS News Miami, but he insisted no laws were broken and said whoever leaked the sealed documents would face "consequences."
The Leon County grand jury completed its report in January on investigations into Hope Florida, the charity started in 2021 by Florida first lady Casey DeSantis. Despite the lack of charges, the report ignited a new round of criticism aimed at DeSantis and other top state Republicans over the charity receiving $10 million from a state Medicaid settlement intended to help poor children get health insurance.
David Jolly, the Democratic nominee for governor, called for the grand jury probe to be reopened. He faces Republican Byron Donalds in November. DeSantis, under Florida law, cannot seek a third term.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is warning that subpoenas are on the table if county prosecutors accused of going easy on illegal immigrants who commit crimes do not cooperate.
Jordan's committee is investigating district attorneys for so-called "sanctuary jurisdictions" who have been accused of taking immigration status into account when pursuing criminal complaints, even when the alleged crime has nothing to do with the suspect's legal status.
"If we have to, we'll use subpoenas to get the documents that we think they may not be giving us. There's a process we always go through. We ask for things, we ask again, we explain why, we work with their office — in some cases their counsel — and back and forth," Jordan explained in an interview with Fox News Digital. "And then if we have to use subpoenas, we certainly will do that ... but we want to know the facts."
