Speaking to reporters at the Irish Open golf tournament, Trump said he did not know ‌whether Fed policymakers will raise interest rates at their meeting this week. But he said the U.S. "should be paying the lowest interest rate in the world" no matter what the Federal Reserve's data indicates about inflation and the economy.
The Labor Department's Consumer Price Index, a key measure of underlying inflation, on Friday posted its largest increase in four months. That reinforced expectations that the U.S. central bank will raise the target range for its federal funds rate, now at 3.5% to 3.75%, at the conclusion of ‌its Federal Open Market Committee meeting on ⁠Wednesday.
Price pressures remain elevated as the economy deals with Trump's import tax increases and surging energy prices tied to the Iran war. Many at the Fed worry that the longer ⁠inflation remains high, the greater the cost will be to get it back to target.

"He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do," a read statement on his social media accounts. "His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world."
Dubbed the "Designer to the Stars," Mackie won nine Emmy Awards, a Tony Award and was nominated for three Oscars, including one for Barbra Streisand's "Funny Lady," in which she wore a sheer batwing gown. He was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Science's Hall of Fame in 2002.
He designed gowns for Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone, Diana Ross and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and concert costumes for Pink. When Marilyn Monroe delivered a breathy, seductive take on "Happy Birthday" at a fundraiser for President John F. David Samra, managing director at top 20 investor Artisan Partners and founding partner of ‌International Value Group, said the board needed to strengthen its oversight of acquisitions, calling for action from board chairman Giovanni Caforio.
"I think he needs to make changes at the board level. One of them should be on improving the team that's doing these deals because clearly they have been uninspiring at best," Samra told Reuters in an interview.
"I think that the board needs to improve their oversight of acquisitions... they need to bring in better talent on the board to do that and have an acquisition committee."

The report from the Labor Department on Thursday followed news last week of a sharp acceleration in job growth in August. Airline fares and hospital services ‌are among the components that go into the calculation of the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Indexes, the inflation measures tracked by the U.S. central bank for its 2% inflation target.
August's Consumer Price ‌Index data on Friday could shed more light on the inflation picture and further shape interest rate expectations for next week.
"This report points to cost increases in the pipeline and will support the case of those on the Committee who want to hike rates now," said Carl Weinberg, chief economist at High Frequency Economics.

The human rights organization FairSquare has filed another complaint with the FIFA ethics committee against the federation president, Gianni Infantino.
The complaint accuses Infantino of violating the FIFA code of ethics. All of the incidents are linked to United States President Donald Trump, according to the document, excerpts of which have been provided to dpa.
"Taken together, they provide compelling evidence that, in his efforts to curry favour with the US president, the FIFA president has, at the very least, abused his power, violated his duty of political neutrality, and breached his duty of loyalty," the complaint states.
"The evidence that he sought to get personal benefit from this pattern of behaviour further underscores the seriousness of the allegations."
Four of the eight incidents were already included in the complaint that FairSquare filed in December 2025 following the widely criticized awarding of the new FIFA Peace Prize to Trump.

Regardless of your political leanings, a college football pregame show devoted time at the official kickoff of the season to publicly support national legislation with no representation of the opposing view.
Is this the new normal? Is this the expectation moving forward? Without question, college football needs some sort of reform. But is this act the fix? And should it be debated on a college football pregame show to kick off a new season of Saturdays in the fall? If Saturday was an example, where was the debate? There was none.
I'm not naive enough to believe sports and politics have never mixed on sports television programming. I've always argued that if there is a direct connection between sports and a political debate, then engage. But engage properly. Except, Saturday provided a moment where the intersection was direct. However, the forum was not open to the other side.
Instead, this was lobbying. Not discussion. This was advocacy, not debate.
Yes, Nick Saban is a staunch supporter of the act proposed in Congress. In fact, he testified before a Senate committee in support of the bill and appears in a commercial supporting it. Yes, Pat McAfee is also a supporter of the act. He's said as much on his daily sports talk program.

President Trump is set to speak on the first night of the Republican National Committee's (RNC) convention in Dallas on Sept. 9.
"The Greatest RALLY of them all," Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday. "I'll be speaking on night one, and hanging around for an earlier closing, and lots of music, on night two!!! See you in Dallas."
Vice President Vance is set to deliver his keynote address on the second and final night of the conference alongside Trump's closing remarks. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Attorney General Todd Blanche and former press secretary Karoline Leavitt are set to deliver more keynote addresses throughout the convention.
Trump had previously said in an August statement, "I will be with you both nights, and rarin' to go. See you in Dallas!"
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will be among those in attendance.
