Clemson did not find many answers offensively Saturday night, but the Tigers found enough to escape Memorial Stadium with their first victory of the season.
Freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds was forced into action after Christopher Vizzina suffered a left arm injury, while kicker Nolan Hauser provided most of Clemson's scoring in a 22-7 victory over Georgia Southern.
Hauser tied his career high by connecting on five field goals, hitting from 20, 34, 38, 50 and 49 yards. He improved to 6-for-6 this season and matched the five field goals he made against Florida State in 2024.
Reynolds settled in after replacing Vizzina, completing 16 of 27 passes for 178 yards while adding 36 rushing yards. He was especially effective before halftime, going 12-for-17 for 160 yards.
One of his biggest plays came on third-and-20 late in the second quarter when he found Tyler Brown for 20 yards. Reynolds then scrambled 16 yards to help set up a Hauser field goal that sent Clemson into halftime leading 16-7.

Wide receiver Malachi Coleman and linebacker Mason Posa both exited the Badgers' 36-9 win over Western Illinois with injuries. Posa could have returned if necessary, coach Luke Fickell said afterward, but Coleman could not.

In the literal sense, UCF waited more than an hour before taking the field as thunderstorms hovered over and rolled through Pittsburgh's Acrisure Stadium. In a figurative one, just about everything went wrong for the Knights' offense on a dreary day in Western Pennsylvania, resulting in a 10th consecutive road defeat.
The Knights mustered less than one yard per carry and went scoreless for nearly 58 minutes in a 12-7 loss to Pitt. Alonza Barnett III busted up the Panthers' shutout bid with a 19-yard pass to Waden Charles, the first touchdown of the sophomore receiver's college career.
UCF (1-1) was limited to 206 yards of offense, going 4 of 13 on third down and 0 for 3 on fourth down — including a final sack of backup quarterback Keyone Jenkins with 1:22 left in regulation. Barnett limped off the field with an apparent right leg injury following the previous play.

The Atlanta Falcons' quarterback situation has somehow become even more complicated ahead of their Week 1 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

EAST LANSING — Michigan State coach Pat Fitzgerald thinks he may have his most important defensive player back for next week's game against Notre Dame.
In his postgame press conference after a 35-7 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 12, Fitzgerald said that starting middle linebacker Jordan Hall was not cleared for the game by medical personnel but could be available for Week 3's rivalry game in South Bend.
"Jordan was really close playing today," Fitzgerald said. "Medical team told us that he was not cleared here late in the week. ATLANTA − Georgia Tech cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe was taken off the field on a stretcher in the third quarter of game against Tennessee football at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Sept. 12.
Play stopped at the 14:17 mark of the third quarter and UT driving with a 24-10 lead. Mbakwe hit his head on the knee of Georgia Tech defensive end Jordan Walker, who also exited with a lower body injury, during a play.
Trainers tended to Mbakwe on the field for a few minutes before calling for a stretcher to take him off the field. Mbakwe was able to move both his hands as he left the field. He signaled to the crowd and gripped a trainer's hand .
Mbakwe was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, two miles away from Bobby Dodd Stadium, according to the ESPN broadcast.

Iowa State football wide receiver Evan Boyd exited Saturday's game against Iowa with an injury late in the first quarter.
The Michigan State transfer hauled in a six-yard pass on third-and-long and immediatley took his helmet off and grabbed his leg. According to the Register's ISU columnist Travis Hines, Boyd put zero weight on the leg when exiting the field. He did not immediately head to the injury tent or the locker room. He was being attended to by athletic training staff and had ice on his left knee while sitting on the bench.

The Oklahoma Sooners lost one of their very best players to injury on Saturday in their 17-10 loss against the Michigan Wolverines. In the game's first quarter, star fifth-year linebacker Kip Lewis injured his right knee, initially returning to the game with a brace on. However, he quickly exited again, and was in the sideline in street clothes for the remainder of the contest.
After the game, head coach Brent Venables gave a quick update on Lewis' status, which wasn't a positive one for the Sooners.
"He'll miss some time," Venables said.
OU struggled mightily on defense in the first half, at least relative to their standards in Norman. However, the second half was better. The Sooners gave up just seven points when they were backed up following an interception from quarterback John Mateer.

MONTREAL (AP) — Chris Kreider agreed to terms on a contract for this season with the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday after mutually terminating his previous deal with the Anaheim Ducks earlier in the week.
Kreider, a Massachusetts native, wanted to get back to the Eastern Conference to be closer to family after playing last year in Southern California following a trade from the New York Rangers. The 35-year-old winger joins a young team that is coming off reaching the East final before losing to eventual Stanley Cup champion Carolina.
Kreider has been booed in Montreal since colliding with Carey Price during a playoff series with the Rangers in 2014. Price did not play again that spring because of a resulting knee injury.

Britain Covey will be available to handle punt-return duties when the Philadelphia Eagles open their season against the Washington Commanders. The Dallas Cowboys will have another running back on the active roster to go along with Javonte Williams, Emari Demercado, and Hunter Luepke. They have signed Israel Abanikanda from the practice squad as a counter move to Malik Davis going on injured reserve with a hip injury. Sources indicate it could be season-ending.

Abanikanda first came to the Cowboys last November after spending time with the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, and the Green Bay Packers. This gives the Cowboys another option at running back that is fully up to speed on the offense and should be able to contribute if asked. The 28-year-old Cabrera, acquired from Miami in an offseason trade, is 5-5 with a 5.68 ERA in 76 innings over 15 games, all starts. Manager Craig Counsell said before Saturday's game against Pittsburgh that Cabrera would switch to the bullpen for now.
This was Cabrera's third stint on the IL this season and followed one for a left hamstring/adductor strain suffered on June 23 in New York. The righty was hurt against the Mets when he went into the splits while stretching for a throw as he covered first base, an injury that sidelined Cabrera for nearly two months.
Thornton is 5-5 with three saves and 3.35 ERA in 48 1/3 innings over 48 relief appearances.

Jireh Edwards, who has been questionable in the days leading up to Saturday's bout between Alabama and Kentucky with an arm injury, is a game-time decision. Edwards did not appear in Week 1 against East Carolina.
