A 62-year-old retiree can withdraw up to $66,500 annually from a 401(k) at just 12% federal tax, moving roughly $532,000 before RMDs begin.
RMDs force a $1.2 million account holder to withdraw $45,283 in year one, potentially pushing effective tax rates to 41% when Social Security is included.
Leaving $900,000 untouched grows it to roughly $1.7 million by 73, creating a first RMD larger than the current 73-year-old's and repeating the same tax trap.
Building a portfolio and living off one are two completely different skills, and almost ******* ody teaches the second. This problem is what The Definitive Guide to Retirement Income helps, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)
Picture two retirees. One is 62 with $900,000 in a traditional 401(k). The other is 73 with $1.2 million. Most people would take the bigger account. The smaller one is worth more because the 62-year-old still determines when that money gets taxed and at what rate. The 73-year-old has already gave that decision to the IRS.

It's been a disappointing couple of years for shareholders of biotechnology outfit CRISPR Therapeutics (NASDAQ: CRSP). This stock's barely up since the end of 2022, lagging the broad market's gains. It's not the performance that investors keeping tabs on this company were expecting, given its potential.
Don't be discouraged, though. While still speculative like most young biotech names, CRISPR Therapeutics remains a compelling prospect for investors who can stomach the risk and its inevitable volatility. Here's why.
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our **** ysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »
On the off-chance you're reading this and aren't already familiar with the company, CRISPR Therapeutics is a drug developer that specializes in gene editing.
It's probably an area you've heard a great deal about. No gene-editing drugs were actually on the market in the United States until CRISPR Therapeutics' Casgevy was approved by the FDA as a treatment for sickle cell disease in late 2023. Any and all gene therapies currently on the market followed this pioneer's foray. Being first is a well-deserved accolade for the company, too, which was co-founded by Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier, who was one of the co-discoverers of the CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing mechanism that makes Casgevy work.

Volkswagen announced a steep cut to its full-year profit outlook on Friday, citing roughly €10 billion ($11.5 billion) in one-time charges concentrated at its troubled Porsche division, amid mounting pressure from U.S. tariffs and a weakening Chinese auto market on the world's second-largest automaker.
The company said it now expects an operating return on sales of up to 1% for 2026, down from its previous guidance of 4% to 5.5%. Volkswagen also said full-year revenue is expected to fall to about €315 billion, from €321.9 billion in 2025.
The bulk of the charges — about €6 billion — stem from revised mid-term ******* umptions for Porsche, in which Volkswagen holds a 75.4% stake. The sports car brand has been hit by U.S. tariffs and a collapse in demand for foreign luxury vehicles in China. On top of that, Volkswagen said it would book a further €2 billion in impairments in the second half of the year, covering China-related writedowns as well as restructuring charges such as costs from early-retirement schemes and the pending divestiture of its Osnabrück plant in Germany, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Volkswagen stock closed down 5.6% following the announcement. Shares of Porsche and Volkswagen's top shareholder Porsche SE fell 3.3% and 4.9%, respectively.
The company cautioned that "further deterioration in the market environment, especially in China, as well as an accelerated shift in demand in favour of battery-electric vehicles" would drag down results, with its Audi and Volkswagen passenger car brands bearing the brunt. Volkswagen noted that its outlook ******* umes tariffs remain unchanged and does not account for possible future effects from the war in the Middle East.

The dollar index (DXY00) fell from a new 1.5-month high on Thursday and finished down by -0.03%. The dollar posted modest losses on Thursday as a sharp rally in stocks curbed demand for dollar liquidity. Lower T-note yields on Thursday also weighed on the dollar.
Dollar losses were limited Thursday after US weekly jobless claims unexpectedly fell to an 8-week low, signaling a strong labor market. The dollar also has carryover support from Wednesday when the FOMC raised interest rates by 25 bp and signaled another rate hike by the end of the year.

Ethereum's native token, Ether (ETH), is showing signs of underperformance against Bitcoin (BTC), with a bearish double-top setup emerging just as the US Senate's failure to advance the CLARITY Act adds fresh uncertainty to the crypto market.
Ether was trading near 0.03167 BTC on Sept. 16, after failing to sustain its latest advance against Bitcoin.
The ETH/BTC daily chart shows two comparable peaks near 0.03344 BTC, one formed in August and another in September. Together, they resemble a potential double top, a bearish reversal structure that typically develops when buyers repeatedly fail to push price through the same resistance area.
Its neckline sits around 0.03078 BTC, meaning ETH/BTC would need a decisive daily close below that level to validate the breakdown.
If that happens, subtracting the pattern's maximum height from the neckline produces a downside target near 0.0283 BTC. That would represent a decline of roughly 10% from current levels, signaling further Ethereum underperformance relative to Bitcoin.

The August consumer price index is due Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET and could determine whether the Federal Reserve raises interest rates next week, with the decision potentially coming down to whether core prices rise 0.2% or 0.3%.
Markets are increasingly leaning toward a hike after Thursday's producer-price report showed inflation remaining stubbornly high, even as Wall Street remains remarkably confident that core CPI will come in at 0.2%.
The median forecast among 17 economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal is 0.22%. Every estimate, ranging from just 0.16% to 0.24%, rounds to 0.2%.
Kalshi traders are similarly concentrated around 0.2%. The prediction market gives core CPI an 87% chance of exceeding 0.1%, but only a 28% chance of coming in above 0.2%.

Stablecoins were supposed to route around the banking system. Instead, the companies scaling them are building deeper into it than anyone predicted.
Stripe paid $1.1 billion for Bridge, whose core product is orchestrating banks. Citi is launching crypto custody. Standard Chartered is testing stablecoin settlement in Singapore. One by one, the operators moving institutional volume keep landing on the same architecture.
An enterprise cross-border payment has three legs. The payer's money moves in local currency over local rails—a Brazilian importer paying in BRL via Pix. The payee receives local currency on their end—the supplier collecting dollars in their account.
Between them sits the middle leg: getting value across the border from one institution to the other. That leg used to run through correspondent banking, SWIFT messages hopping between intermediary banks, each holding accounts with the next, each adding a day and a fee. When both institutions accept a stablecoin, that leg settles on-chain in seconds. Banks still own the other two.

Duke (DUK) and Southern (SO) have secured a combined 25 gigawatts of data-center load commitments, converting electrification demand into recoverable regulated earnings.
Con Edison (ED) leads all S&P 500 utilities with 52 consecutive annual dividend increases, protected by New York State revenue decoupling that cushions volume swings.

Regulated electric utilities are one of the few places income investors can find dividends backed by cash flows that don't rely on the economic cycle. Rate cases, riders, and long-term customer contracts turn capital spending into recoverable revenue, which is why payouts at these three names have kept climbing for decades. The clearest example: Con Edison's "50 straight years of dividend increases, a record unmatched among utilities in the S&P 500" was extended again this year to a 52nd consecutive annual increase. Here are three regulated-cash-flow utilities that income-focused portfolios can lean on.
Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) is one of the largest fully regulated electric utilities in the country, serving roughly 8.73 million retail customers across the Carolinas, Florida, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky, plus Piedmont Natural Gas. The stock closed at $121.40 on September 3, 2026, with an annualized forward dividend of $4.34 after the July step-up to a $1.085 quarterly rate.

Riverwater Partners, an investment management company, released its 'Small Cap Strategy' Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. The Small Cap Strategy underperformed the Russell 2000 in the second quarter as the benchmark experienced one of its strongest risk-on rallies in recent memory, although the strategy remained ahead year-to-date. The quarter was defined by accelerating AI investment, energy market disruptions, and renewed investor appetite for higher-beta stocks, creating headwinds for the firm's quality-focused approach and healthcare positioning. Despite this, stock selection contributed positively in energy, materials, and financials, while healthcare and consumer discretionary detracted due to the fund's disciplined avoidance of speculative businesses. Looking ahead, the firm remains cautiously optimistic, focusing on opportunities created by market dislocations, including AI infrastructure enablers, select consumer companies, healthcare innovators, and energy businesses trading below intrinsic value. The strategy continues to emphasize high-quality companies with strong management teams and attractive valuations, positioning the portfolio for a potential rotation away from speculative market leadership. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Riverwater Partners Small Cap Strategy highlighted LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT). LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT) is a medical device company focusing on the manufacturing and development of products and services for vascular surgery. On August 31, 2026, LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT) closed at $80.28 per share.LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT) declined 24.11% in a month and 15.52% over the past 52 weeks. LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT) has a market capitalization of $1.84 billion with a 52-week trading range between $78.27 - 118.01.
Riverwater Partners Small Cap Strategy stated the following regarding LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT), our peripheral vascular device holding, declined approximately 12% in a quarter when nearly everything profitable in small cap health care went down and nearly everything speculative went up. The company's niche leadership, pricing power, and consistent execution are unchanged, and we view the weakness as sentiment-driven rather than fundamental."
LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ:LMAT) is not on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 22 hedge fund portfolios held LeMaitre Vascular, Inc. The severe disruption of oil and gas flows out of the Persian Gulf resulting from the war between the U.S. and Israel and Iran, has saddled energy-importing nations with soaring bills, supply uncertainty, and a murky outlook. However, there has been a silver lining: a rush to build alternative conduits for bringing oil and gas out of the Middle East.
The global total energy import bill swelled by $330 billion over the six months between March and August, Finnish climate outlet Centre for Energy Research and Clean Air reported earlier this month. This would not have been the case had the Strait of Hormuz remained open, the outlet noted in its report, highlighting the world's reliance on an energy export corridor vulnerable to adverse geopolitical events and their fallout.
Because of the closure of Hormuz, Persian Gulf oil producers had to idle wells and find ways to slip their stored oil out of the Gulf on tankers with their transponders switched off. Yet they also started working on alternative routes that bypassed the Strait of Hormuz altogether.
Saudi Arabia demonstrated foresight with its East-West pipeline that it used to reroute its export flows from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea in the first weeks of the war, ramping up to some 7 million barrels of crude daily along the pipe that had previously handled much lower volumes. The only major constraint in that rerouting was the capacity of the loading facilities at Yanbu Port.
Later, of course, Saudi Arabia had to discover that the Red Sea is not safe because of the presence of the Yemeni Houthis in the Bab el-Mandeb strait and their affiliation with Iran. So, the Saudis had to reroute again, this time to the Suez Canal, which has an even more constrained tanker passage capacity. In other words, alternative routes are not perfect, but it is a good thing to have them.

Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) began a 36-month share-repurchase authorization on August 24 that permits the company to buy up to 14.4 million common shares, representing approximately 5% of shares outstanding as of August 14, for as much as US$300 million.
The headline amount overstates what Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) would spend at its current valuation. At the August 24 closing price of $18.28, repurchasing the full 14.4 million shares would cost approximately $263.2 million before transaction costs. The share limit would become the binding constraint unless the average purchase price exceeds roughly $20.83.
The buyback is financially plausible because Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) ended June with C$1.23 billion of cash. First-half operating cash flow reached C$31.6 million, compared with a C$14.9 million outflow a year earlier, while second-quarter revenue increased to C$43.0 million from C$7.2 million.
Sangdong is also moving beyond construction. Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) began feeding stockpiled ore into the processing plant in June to produce saleable tungsten concentrate. Phase I is designed for approximately 640,000 tonnes of annual ore throughput, and the planned Phase II expansion could increase capacity to approximately 1.2 million tonnes.
If management is correct that the market undervalues Sangdong's future cash flow, retiring shares before the mine reaches full output could increase each remaining shareholder's participation in that growth. Almonty Industries Inc. (NASDAQ:ALM) also has flexibility to spread purchases across three years rather than committing the entire amount immediately.

1533 ET – Oil futures end the week higher with no progress made toward resolving the U.S.-Iran conflict, and the U.S. planning to tighten the economic squeeze on Iran rather than renew major military action. Eagle Capital Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, Eagle Capital Management discussed how enthusiasm around AI capital spending has driven strong S&P 500 earnings growth while also increasing risks from elevated valuations, concentrated demand, and aggressive investment **** umptions. Eagle remains a strong believer in AI but prefers constructing a portfolio that can perform across multiple outcomes rather than relying on one forecast. The firm believes current earnings can overstate underlying economics because semiconductor equipment is depreciated over several years, while free cash flow growth remains much weaker. It also expects competition and additional capacity across AI labs, hyperscalers, and semiconductors to eventually create winners and losers. These dynamics are encouraging Eagle to recycle capital toward attractive opportunities outside the most crowded AI trades while maintaining selective exposure to high quality beneficiaries. The portfolio trades at a 20% market discount with faster expected EPS growth. Please review the Strategy's top five holdings for key selections.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Eagle Capital Management highlighted Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU). Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) designs, develops, manufactures, and sells memory and storage products in the United States and internationally. On August 18, 2026, Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) closed at $940.76 per share. The one-month return of Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) was -1.95% and its shares gained 702.63% over the past 52 weeks. Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) has a market capitalization of $1.06 trillion.
Eagle Capital Management stated the following regarding Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU), the only U.S. producer of DRAM memory, has gone from being marginally profitable to earning more than Apple or Microsoft. Memory prices are now high enough to inflict damage on consumer electronics markets and prompt Al model companies and chipmakers to redesign their technology.
Micron's entire manufacturing PP&E footprint is approximately $60 billion, versus a market cap of $1.2 trillion. The company will make enough money over the next year to replicate its entire footprint multiple times. DRAM historically has been brutally cyclical. That cyclicality reduced competition to the point that only an oligopoly of three players could survive. Volatility was one of the moats that helped protect over-the-cycle returns."

On August 10, Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY)'s weight-loss pill Foundayo won approval in the UK, becoming the first country in Europe to clear the drug for both weight management and type 2 diabetes. It's only the second GLP-1 pill approved in Europe, arriving two months after Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO)'s Wegovy pill got its own UK approval in June.
Novo already has a head start in the European pill market and in patient numbers worldwide. Lilly is betting that a pill with no food restrictions can close that gap.
That raises the real question: can Lilly's convenience edge actually win over doctors and patients fast enough to catch up, or does Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO)'s lead already look too big to close?
Foundayo can be taken at any time of day without food or water restrictions, unlike the Wegovy pill, which must be taken on an empty stomach with a 30-minute wait before eating. Lilly said the drug will launch in the UK later this month through private prescription, priced below Mounjaro's roughly £330 monthly list price. Foundayo already brought in $98 million in US sales last quarter. Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY)'s overall 2026 revenue guidance now sits at $85 billion to $87 billion, up from its earlier forecast, due to strong demand for its weight-loss and diabetes drugs.
Foundayo's uptake has been much slower than that of the Wegovy pills in the US, something Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY) CEO David Ricks has said reflects the time it takes for a brand-new medicine to build trust with doctors and patients. NHS access in the UK isn't automatic either, since it depends on a coming cost-effectiveness review. That means most early UK patients will have to pay privately. Foundayo is also still under review in the European Union, while the Wegovy pill has already secured a positive recommendation there.

All this tension matters for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) shareholders, because both companies have meaningful OpenAI exposure on their balance sheets and in their narratives.
OpenAI filed a confidential S‑1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June and sits at a private post‑money valuation of around $852 billion after its March 2026 funding round. Reports put its 2025 revenue near $13 billion and its 2026 revenue near $2 billion per month, numbers that support a high valuation multiple, but not a stress‑free one. Altman has told investors he will not take the company public below $1 trillion, so the IPO must clear that bar, or the listing will stay on hold.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
To fund its expanded stake in OpenAI, SoftBank arranged an unsecured $40 billion bridge loan that matures in March 2027. Bridge paper exists to carry a borrower into a specific liquidity moment, which in this case lines up with a fourth-quarter 2026 or first-quarter 2027 window for OpenAI's IPO. If public markets balk at putting a $1 trillion valuation on the ChatGPT developer, SoftBank will either have to refinance at tougher terms or the company will have to accept a lower market cap -- an outcome that could ripple through its broader AI story.
Microsoft owns roughly 27% of OpenAI after committing about $13 billion to it a few years ago, and it's in talks to add a bit under $10 billion more to its stake in the new funding round. A trillion-dollar IPO would turn that stake into one of the most valuable strategic holdings in corporate history, which supports the long‑term AI infrastructure thesis around Azure and Copilot. The risk here is that SoftBank's need for speed will push OpenAI to go public before the economics of enterprise AI are stable, leaving Microsoft with headline valuation gains but more scrutiny on capital intensity and on an AI partner whose stock could swing hard.

Rivian burns $833 million per quarter selling just 65,000 vehicles a year, yet its $23 billion market cap edges out global automaker Stellantis.
Stellantis sells 5.4 million vehicles annually but sits at a $20 billion market cap, while Tesla commands $1.1 trillion on EV future optimism.
EVs represent only 5% of new US car sales, making the investor optimism inflating Rivian above Stellantis increasingly hard to justify.
Act now: the ****** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Rivian didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
Troubled EV company Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN) has a $23 billion market cap. Global car giant Stellantis (NYSE: STLA) has a $20 billion market cap. This seems impossible. It shouldn't be. The EV revolution has ended in the US. Stellantis has troubled brands, but not that troubled.
