In the definition of a back-and-forth battle, the Mariners outslugged the Dodgers with a season-high five home runs in a 7-6 loss for the reigning champs. Neither team seemed capable of holding onto a lead for any meaningful period until the Mariners jumped in front in the eighth thanks to a two-run shot from Dominic Canzone, his second and Seattle's fifth homer of the game.
As different as the seasons of the two starting pitchers in this matchup might be, for one game, they both encountered the same problem, completely allergic to the prospect of a shutdown inning. On four separate occasions, a team took the lead in the first five innings only to see its starter unable to put a zero on the board in the following half-inning.
Justin Wrobleski has thrived this season with the ability to raise his level according to the situation, but what does he do when the opposition ambushes him? The Mariners managed to score five runs off the left-hander without even having a single at-bat with a runner in scoring position against him—courtesy of not two, not three, but four home runs against a pitcher who had allowed a total of three long ****** prior to this game. Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez, Rob Refsnyder, and Dominic Canzone all left the yard. While the homers hit by Rodríguez and Raleigh could be categorized as mistake pitches, the ones by Canzone and Refsnyder came on well-located fastballs at or well above the strike zone—it stands to reason that Wrobleski's heater didn't have the same life on it, or that the M's guessed right on multiple occasions.
For the Dodgers' offense against Castillo, it was an eventful game from start to finish, but one that could've been more dominant. The M's veteran starter allowed a leadoff bomb to Shohei Ohtani and had to deal with trouble in some form or another for his entire outing.

Many expected the Dodgers to be facing the Mariners in the World Series last season, but Seattle couldn't close the deal against the Blue Jays. Now, a year later, they're an inferior team, but one still fighting to enter the postseason. The M's will go with the veteran Luis Castillo for the opening game of this series; potentially good news for a Dodgers offense that scored more than four runs only once in its last five games, making the pitching do the heavy lifting in the road trip's last stop at Citi Field.
A symbol of stability for this young Mariners staff ever since his acquisition back at the deadline in 2022, Castillo has a 3-9 record this season, which is a direct indicator of career-low numbers almost across the board. Lately, though, Castillo has had problems keeping the ball in the yard, allowing five home runs in his last two outings, the losing pitcher of record in each of his three outings this month. Although that 4.85 ERA this season justifies a lousy record, it is also a byproduct of the Mariners' complete inability to provide him any run support, scoring just 19 runs in his last eight starts.
Back to the home runs and how they might come into play, the one Dodger to actually leave the yard against the Mets, Kyle Tucker, is also one of the two who has gone deep against Castillo before. The two home runs in Citi Field were encouraging, but even in this recent stretch, Tucker needs to show more to come close to the player the Dodgers thought they were getting. Hitting at home hasn't been an enjoyable task for Tucker with a .607 OPS at Dodger Stadium.
One player who has definitely enjoyed performing at Dodger Stadium, though, is Justin Wrobleski. The Dodgers' starter has managed to keep an ERA below 3.00 both at home and on the road, but his .461 OPS allowed in seven starts at home genuinely sounds made up. Monitoring how he does with an increased workload in the second half is a priority for the Dodgers.

That surplus has always seemed like a logical place for them to deal from ahead of the MLB trade deadline, regardless of whether moves would be considering "buying" or "selling." In this case, it would simply be the Mariners giving up a loaded position to improve in a different way.
All along, it's been ***** umed that the veteran Luis Castillo would be the most likely trade candidate.
An article on Thursday by The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, though, suggests that they might actually trade Emerson Hancock.

Three members of the DSL White Sox squad have been named to the 2026 DSL All-Star Game: Ronald Cardoza (C), Yordany Marte (RHP), and Sebastian Romero (OF). Cardoza is hitting .316/.426/.607 with a 1.033 OPS while Romero owns a slash line of .289/.391/.608 with a .999 OPS. Marte is 0-2 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. The three players will represent Chicago’s rookie affiliate at the game on Sunday, July 19.

Not much to write home about in this one. The ACL White Sox (15-38) didn’t muster a run until the fifth, when Osniel Castillo laced a leadoff triple and rehabbing Billy Carlson followed with an RBI single to center. The Sox tacked on one more in the seventh while trailing 9-1 as Adam Fogel worked a two-out walk before Marcelo Ácala ripped an RBI double to left. Too little, too late, though. Reinder Gomez was the only hurler to hold the Halos scoreless, tossing one frame and allowing just one hit and striking out one. Giving up nine runs is rarely a winning formula, and the offense didn’t do the pitching staff any favors, going just 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position while leaving 10 on base.
DSL Cubs Blue 6, DSL White Sox 4
The DSL White Sox (11-20) gift-wrapped this one with three fielding blunders and a passed ball, leading to three unearned runs. The White Sox did showcase some offense, though, as Ronald Cardozo cracked a solo shot in the fourth, and then the bats tried to rally in the seventh. Jose Suarez launched a two-run bomb, Hector Hernandez legged out a triple, and Dionys Medina dribbled an RBI grounder to plate three tallies. Unfortunately, the damage was already done — too many mistakes and just not enough late-game magic.
ACL White Sox 4, ACL Padres 3 (July 13 — 7 innings)
The ACL Sox trailed 3-1 to the Padres, then finally put up a crooked number in the fifth. Landon Hodge and Adam Fogel, patient enough to draw back-to-back walks, set the table. Jose Mendoza knocked a single to pack the sacks. The Padres’ pitcher promptly lost the plot with a wild pitch, and Hodge scored. Marcelo Ácala froze for strike three, but another wild pitch let Fogel trot home. Alejandro Cruz hit an RBI single for the go-ahead. Fidel Montero took it from there with four shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk.
DSL White Sox 2, DSL Cubs 0 (July 14, suspended, bottom of the first)
The Sox took control early in the top of the second. Fernando Graterol drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly before Sebastian Romero added an RBI single. It was Romero’s 34th RBI of the season, tied for sixth-most in the DSL, and gave the Good Guys a 2-0 lead.

The Seattle Mariners are competing for the AL West or an AL Wild Card spot this season, despite their poor 47-49 record on the year.
But this team desperately needs to make some moves by the trade deadline to have a better chance of contending this season. To do so, they could get very creative.
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Mariners are telling teams they will be open to trading from their "prized starters" this summer, especially Luis Castillo, to land one of two things: a right-handed hitter and a high-end reliever.
"The Seattle Mariners are letting teams know that they are willing to trade one of their prized starters for a back-end reliever and right-handed hitter, most likely Luis Castillo," Nightengale writes.

The Diamondbacks reinstated catcher James McCann from the injured list on Monday, July 6, making room on the roster by optioning catcher Adrian Del Castillo to Triple-A Reno.
McCann has been on the 10-day injured list since May 19 with a strained right quad. He played three games in Triple-A Reno on a rehab **** ignment, going 0 for 12 with two strikeouts.
McCann was hitting .203/.217/.254 in 59 at-bats at the time of his injury. He was coming off a productive 2025 season in which he hit .260/.324/.431 with five homers in 41 games.
Del Castillo delivered a key, three-run homer in the Diamondbacks’ 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, July 4, but has struggled mightily to get going at the plate this year. He missed all of spring training with a calf injury, then played only sparingly at Triple-A Reno before being summoned to the majors in early April.
In 151 at-bats, Del Castillo hit just .185/.244/.311 with five homers.

The NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers are losing one of their top starting pitchers yet again with a shoulder injury.
Brandon Woodruff was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation by the Brewers after he left Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the fourth inning, Woodruff struck out Adrian Del Castillo on a changeup, but showed discomfort following what was his 61st pitch of the game.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy then decided to take Woodruff out. Prior to the Del Castillo strikeout, Woodruff's velocity continued to drop. His fastball decreased from 92.5 mph to 86.6 and his changeup dropped from 82.9 mph to 76.6. The changeup that struck out Del Castillo was clocked at 75.1 mph.
"Kind of just a slow progression of… I guess 'discomfort' is the best word," Woodruff said after the game, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Curt Hogg. "You could kind of just see that… something's not right."
"Too early to tell but based off the tests after I came out, it seems like it's very similar to what I experienced before," he added.

PHOENIX (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff has gone back on the injured list with inflammation in his throwing shoulder, one day after a drop in velocity led to his early exit from a start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Brewers recalled left-handed pitcher Drew Rom from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move Sunday.
Woodruff was removed from the Brewers' 4-3 loss at Arizona on Saturday in the fourth inning after striking out Adrian Del Castillo on a 75.1-mph changeup. Although Woodruff struck out the only two batters he faced in the fourth, none of the pitches he threw that inning exceeded 87.3 mph.
This had been Woodruff's third start since coming off the injured list after an absence of almost two months.
A drop in velocity also resulted in his first trip to the injured list this season. Woodruff also was facing the Diamondbacks on April 30 when he lasted just 1 1/3 innings because the average velocity of his fastball was just 85.4 mph.

For Hickory, Aneudis Mejia struck out one in a scoreless inning.

In the midst of a quirky part of their 2026 MLB schedule, the Mariners were scheduled to play 12 games over a 13-game stretch. Their lone off day remains Wednesday, which will uniquely break up a series against the host Los Angeles Angels. The teams are giving way to an FIFA World Cup match at nearby Lumen Field.
About two weeks ago, Mariners manager Dan Wilson announced that the pitching staff had adopted a piggyback formation to give starters extra time and help balance the six-man rotation leading up to the All-Star break in mid-July.
Bryce Miller and Luis Castillo on June 19 engaged in the first adjusted outing, losing a 6-2 decision to the Boston Red Sox at T-Mobile Park. Gilbert and Hancock were slated to make the second of three scheduled piggyback starts, but have been put on hold. George Kirby and Bryan Woo were announced as a potential pair, but their outing has yet to be established.

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Oscar Collazo did not need much time to make his flyweight experiment look easy.
Fighting for the first time above his native 105-pound minimumweight division, Collazo dropped Neider Valdez three times in the second round before the fight was waved off, putting an emphatic stamp on what was supposed to be a measuring-stick night and turning it into a statement instead.
The two-division aspirations started with a wrinkle, then a second one. Collazo was originally booked to defend his unified WBA and WBO minimumweight ******* les against Joey Canoy, but visa issues forced Canoy out on short notice. A first replacement, Luis Castillo, ran into the same immigration problems and also fell through. Golden Boy Promotions finally turned to Valdez, a Mexican veteran with a 15-3-3 record who had fought just three weeks earlier and had his paperwork in order. The WBO approved him under exceptional circumstances days before fight night and attached its International flyweight ******* le to the bout to give the scrambled main event some sanctioning weight, though that belt carries far less prestige than the world ******* les Collazo already holds at 105 pounds. The WBA did not bother sanctioning the fight at all.
None of that mattered once the bell rang.
The first round passed largely without incident, a feeling-out stretch that gave little hint of what was coming. Collazo used it to find his timing against the bigger man, and in the second round, he found his opening. He landed a counter left hand that caught Valdez clean on the chin, sending him to the canvas for the first of three knockdowns in the round.

God, what an utterly stupid game. Zac Gallen was going for us. Turns out it didn’t matter who was going for the Twins, though for the record it was Taj Bradley. Our Mr. Gallen really outdid himself tonight, though. His ERA was was sitting at a cool 5.35 at the start of the game; it was 6.10 by the time he checked out with no outs in the fifth. Yilber Diaz made his debut in relief, and recorded two outs, and by the time he hit the showers, his ERA had reached 94.50 for the season so far. So yeah. It was like that.
Basically, it was garbage time the whole way through. Okay, maybe not through the first three innings—Gallen gave up two in the first, to make it 2-0 Minnesota, but then actually recorded two quick, clean innings in which he only threw 17 pitches total. But he got nickel-and-dimed in the bottom of the fourth, as the Twins started the inning with a strikeout followed by five straight singles before Gallen recorded the second out, and then there was a sixth single and a walk before the frame finally ended with four more runs having crossed the plate and the Twins batting around to bring the score to 6-0 Minnesota.
For whatever it was worth, Gallen was only at 72 pitches at that point, and most of us in the Gameday Thread had come into the game simply hoping that Gallen would eat some innings since last night we wound up using eight relievers. But Gallen came out for the fifth, gave up a triple and two singles on nine pitches, and Torey Lovullo made the choice to pull him. In came Yilber Diaz, fresh off the bus from Reno, and things really didn’t get any better. Diaz surrendered a single, a walk, and a Byron Buxton grand slam before recording the first out of the inning, and then three more singles, a double, and yet another triple before finally being pulled after only recording two outs total and allowing Minnesota to bat around on him alone. His seatmate on the bus up from Reno this morning, Philip Abner, took over and finally recorded the third out of the inning, but not before ten more runs had crossed the plate. 16-0 Minnesota
Then it really was garbage time, of course, with both teams swapping out their starters to give their bench players some at bats. Our boys made the most of ours and made the box score look a little bit respectable at least if you didn’t drill into the details. Adrian Del Castillo led off the fifth with a single, and scored two pitches later on Jorge Barrosa’s second home run of the season to narrow the gap to 16-2 Minnesota. We got five more back in the seventh thanks to Twins reliever Justin Lawrence, who walked four batters and then gave up a double and a single to get us to 16-7 Minnesota. Barrosa doubled to lead off the eighth and was driven in by Tommy Troy’s RBI single to cap the scoring at 16-8 Minnesota.
On the upside, at least, Abner pitching three scoreless innings in total, before giving way to Ildemaro Vargas, who wasn’t even in the lineup to start the game, and Ildemaro pitched the last five out

In front of a sell-out crowd of 45,775 on fireworks night on a day the stands were packed with Red Sox and World Cup fans alike, the Mariners fizzled out, dropping the opening game against Boston in dismal fashion. By the ninth inning, a loud “let’s go Red Sox” chant had erupted, with the only joy for Mariners fans a garbage-time Julio Rodríguez two-run shot.
Every piggyback game feels like two games, but the contrast tonight was especially stark. In the Bryce Miller game, the story was: one ambush home run and a lot of good pitching between; in the Luis Castillo-led part of the piggyback, the story was: one bad and BABIP-fueled bad inning, one also-not-great-inning and some decent pitching between. But the part of the story that was consistent throughout the game was the Mariners offense once again failing to do much against a left-handed starter, and failing to capitalize on opportunities when they had them.
Bryce Miller had a clean first and was one out away from a clean second when Caleb Durbin ambushed a first-pitch fastball at the top of the zone and yanked it over the wall in left field just enough to clear the fence – a home run at just 13 MLB parks including T-Mobile and Fenway. Maybe that shook Miller’s confidence somewhat, because he then struggled to put away Marcelo Mayer, getting into a ten-pitch battle that ended with Mayer staring at a fastball on the plate for a called strike three.
Miller didn’t have a clean inning after the first, but he was able to face the minimum in both the third and fourth thanks to a well-timed double play, getting Mickey Gaspar, who has both the name and countenance of a 1900s circus strongman, to tap into an inning-ending double play on the splitter. In the fourth, he got an ***** ist from Cal Raleigh (welcome back Cal) throwing out Wilyer Abreu trying to steal after Abreu had jumped on a first-pitch fastball for a ground ball single. Miller’s fifth inning was a cherry on top of a strong day, with two strikeouts and a weak groundout from Meyer, who’d given him the tough at-bat earlier. Miller doubled up on the curveball to Jarren Duran after Duran flinched after the pitch for his sixth strikeout of the day, and then went split-sweeper to Durbin, who had homered off him earlier, for his seventh strikeout.
“Everything felt good,” said Miller postgame, noting that he didn’t even have a chance to get to all his pitches because he was seeing so much success on the four-seamer. “I didn’t even throw a cutter today, so we still had that in the back pocket, and I think I threw one sinker…it’s never easy coming out of a one run game, especially when – I felt like I was rolling. But it was. You know. It was the plan going into it, so not really much that I can say to change anybody’s mind…when there’s a pre-set plan, there’s not really much arguing you can do.”

June 19 (Reuters) - Commonwealth Bank of Australia named Victoria Ledda as group chief information officer and Rodrigo ‌Castillo as group chief technology officer on Friday as ‌the lender sharpens its focus on digital, data and artificial intelligence capabilities.
Here are some details:
• Ledda will lead business-aligned technology strategy and delivery across the group, while Castillo will oversee enterprise technology foundations, including engineering, security and AI capabilities.
• The move comes ‌as CBA, Australia's largest ⁠lender by market value, ramps up investment in technology to improve customer experience and strengthen ⁠its operations, even as AI becomes more costly and complex to roll out.
• Chief Executive Matt Comyn said the appointments reflected the bank's focus on "delivering better, safer and more resilient technology ‌for customers".

Well, I guess I’ll eat crow for doubting this game, at least.
Few highlights in this one:
This team went 3-for-6 with RISP and only left two men on base with 10 hits! How about that!
Ceddanne Rafaela is on one, I really wonder if his bat is finally catching up to his defensive abilities, because this doesn’t feel like a mere streak. To kick off the seven inning, four run rally, he lined a double off of Luis Castillo, advanced on a sac fly and then made a beautiful read on Cal Raleigh getting crossed up by Castillo to scamper home. In the grand scheme of things, it was one of six runs scored but when it’s a 1-0 game and you come home like that, it can feel like a backbreaker to the opppsition.
I think all four Red Sox challenges were successful tonight: three ball/strike asks by Narváez, and a ball/strike ask from Marcelo which was overturned by 0.2 inches, leading to more Red Sox runs. Don’t ask me if the Red Sox have been more successful since they really started practicing challenging better—maybe worth a deep dive soon.

Oscar Collazo isn't defending his ****** les Saturday night. He's not even fighting in his own division.
After visa problems took out both Joey Canoy and a proposed Mexican replacement, Luis Castillo, this week, late addition Neider Valdez Aguilar wasn't ranked highly enough for either the WBA or WBO to sanction a true 105-pound ****** le fight. Rather than pull the plug on the entire card, promoters restructured the bout at flyweight, 112 pounds, two divisions above where Collazo has spent his entire reign as champion.
It's the first time since his third pro fight in 2021 that Collazo has stepped outside minimumweight. The WBO slapped its International flyweight ****** le on the bout to give it some sanctioning weight, though that's a secondary belt, not a genuine world championship. The WBA didn't bother.
Both fighters weighed in comfortably under the 112-pound limit Friday, Collazo at 110.5, Valdez at 111.25.
The real motivation here isn't championship stakes. It's making sure a seven-fight card and its undercard fighters still get paid after a week of visa chaos nearly blew the whole thing up.

Oscar Collazo needs a new opponent for Saturday, and he just may have one.
Lance Pugmire reports that Golden Boy secured Mexico’s Neider Alvarez to face Collazo this weekend in a DAZN-streamed main event. Pugmire also says that the WBA and WBO have not yet officially confirmed whether they’ll sanction the replacement bout as a **** le fight.
Collazo was originally set to face Joey Canoy, who had visa issues. Miguel Cotto Promotions tried to get Luis Castillo in as the replacement, but he also doesn’t have a visa.
Alvarez (15-3-3, 12 KO) is something of a last-ditch call on paper. He’s 2-3-1 in his last six fights, with losses to contenders Erik Badillo and Erick Rosa, notably. He’s coming off of a six-round draw with .500 record club fighter Gerardo Rodriguez on May 30, so he just fought, too.
Collazo (14-0, 11 KO) will obviously be a huge favorite. He was a clear favorite against Canoy, but Canoy’s level of quality has been proven significantly more than that of Alvarez.

Over the last year, Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been under investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the Canary Islands. The 23-year-old, as well as three former teammates from La Fabrica, is accused of having disseminated a ******* tape involving two women – one of them a minor – in Gran Canaria in the summer of 2023, but his involvement in the case could be about to end.
Previously, the Public Prosecutor’s Office had asked for a prison sentence of 2.5 years for Asencio over his alleged role in the incident, but according to Marca, this request could now be withdrawn. Mercedes Gil Castillo, who is leading the prosecution’s case, is prepared to let the Real Madrid man go, on the condition that he apologises in the trial to the two women who appear in the images.
Asencio has denied that he committed the crime of dissemination, which is why the Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked that he attends the trial in order to apologise to the two alleged victims. If he does so, the complaint against him will be withdrawn.

As per the report, Asencio sent a letter to the two alleged victims last year, in which he acknowledged that he made a mistake in showing the ******* tape to one of his friends. Gil Castillo was made aware of this, and while the women have accepted the private apology, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is asking for an apology in open court in order for the Real Madrid defender’s alleged involvement to be disregarded.
