Ever since the New York Mets signed Juan Soto, there have been rumors of tension between him and Francisco Lindor, the face of the franchise before Soto's arrival.
The fact that the team has been extremely disappointing for the last two seasons likely has not helped things, but both players have publicly denied any beef. However, that does not mean things were sunshine and rainbows behind the scenes.
According to ESPN's Jorge Castillo, there was lingering tension between the two, but Freddy Peralta, who is now with the Tampa Bay Rays, arranged for the two to sit down and work things out.
"With tension lingering into their second season as teammates, multiple sources told ESPN that Peralta in June arranged for the two stars to vent and work through their disconnect," Castillo wrote on Wednesday. "Since then, sources told ESPN, Lindor and Soto's relationship has been noticeably warmer, with the players interacting more often."

Carlos Alcaraz still isn't ready to return from his lingering wrist injury.
Alcaraz withdrew from the Cincinnati Open on Tuesday, ending hopes that he'd be ready to make his return to the sport after missing both the French Open and Wimbledon already this season. His status for the US Open later this month is still very much up in the air.
"We know Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to playing tournaments as soon as possible," Cincinnati Open tournament director Bob Moran said in a statement. "We wish him the best with his recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in teh future."
Alcaraz has been dealing with tenosynovitis in his wrist, which is the inflammation of the connective tissue that protects tendons, per the Cleveland Clinic. That can make it painful and difficult to move joints.

Dan Campbell was back in front of the podium on Monday prior to the Detroit Lions' fifth day of training camp, and that meant a bunch of injury updates that have been lingering for a few days.

Four years ago, when the Browns, Panthers, Falcons, and Saints entered a four-way competition for quarterback Deshaun Watson, Cleveland was the first team to which Watson said, "No thanks." A five-year, fully-guaranteed contract quickly changed his mind.
Still, there's been a lingering perception that Watson didn't really want to play for the Browns. Before too long, it seemed as if the Browns were counting the days until they could move on from Watson.
Will that change? On Friday, owner Jimmy Haslam kept the door open on Watson returning in 2027. On Saturday, Watson made his feelings for Cleveland clear.
"When I first got here, there was a lot of stuff going on, as the world knows," Watson told reporters. "But I don't have any bad feelings toward Cleveland. I love Cleveland. Me and my wife have our house on the east side, so we're here all the time. We were here this summer. If you ask around, I'm at pretty much all the restaurants, hanging out, so I haven't had a bad experience outside of different times in the stadium. I don't know why that narrative is out there that people think that I don't like Cleveland. My family and I have been enjoying our time here, if the opportunity shows up, we'll see where it goes."

Via Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, the Big Ten and SEC reached an agreement with lawmakers regarding the bill that would ostensibly restore some order to the chaos flowing from decades of rampant antitrust violations. While also picking the pockets of those who play the most profitable sports.
President Trump got directly involved in the effort to smooth out the lingering issues. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) told Dellenger that a vote of the full Senate is expected next week. With a one-month recess looming, the Senate was running out of time to get something done before the midterm elections in November.
The bill, if passed by the Senate, would still need to be passed by the House of Representatives. If passed, it would give the NCAA and the various conferences a limited antitrust exemption, allowing the one-time transfer rule to be implemented and create a stricter revenue-sharing cap.

At least this year, he doesn't need to. He's on the field at camp with the New York Giants, and all eyes are on the No. 1 receiver who is starting to regain his previous dynamic form.
Now 10 months removed from tearing the ACL in his right knee and still on a lengthy road back from the injury, Nabers is not yet a full participant in practice. Last week, it was second-year outside linebacker Nic Scourton who went down with a season-ending ACL tear, followed by tight end Mitchell Evans getting carted off with an ankle sprain on Tuesday. Initial reports about San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan claimed he was not at fault for the car crash that occurred on July 14.
According to the California Crash Reporting System database — Case ID 5249308 — Shanahan was allegedly holding and using his cell phone prior to the crash. Still, Shanahan was not considered at fault. It was determined that the 21-year-old woman driving made an unsafe turn, which resulted in the crash. Both airbags were deployed.
The state of California prohibits holding and operating a cell phone while driving, according to Vehicle Code 23123.5(a), but Shanahan was not cited.
Chris Simms said he received pictures from Kyle's wife, Mandy. Simms said, "He was this close to maybe losing his right eye. The scar is so big right here. And he's still battling with this concussion. He's healing. His face looks a whole lot better, but this concussion, of course, being part of that kind of accident, is lingering, and it's giving him issues."

Manchester City have confirmed that midfielder Rodri has successfully undergone minor back surgery, with the Spain international now set to begin his recovery ahead of the new season.
The Premier League club released a statement on Tuesday announcing that the procedure had gone as planned after the midfielder had been dealing with persistent discomfort.
"Manchester City can confirm that Rodri has successfully undergone minor back surgery. The midfielder had been experiencing discomfort for some time, but has now undergone a procedure to address the issue and will begin a short period of rehabilitation."
According to MARCA, Rodri traveled to Madrid on Monday to undergo the operation, which was performed to address the lingering back issue. The report adds that the procedure was considered minor and did not require the midfielder to remain hospitalized.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca also commented on Rodri's situation, explaining that the Spaniard will take time to recover before rejoining the squad.

Actress Angelina Jolie's lingering ties to ex-husband Brad Pitt have officially been severed after their youngest children, twins Vivienne and Knox, turned 18—bringing the former couple's custody agreement to an end.
It marks a significant milestone not just for the teenagers, but for their mother, too. Jolie has made no secret of her desire to leave the U.S., something that she said she was unable to do while she was still bound by the custody conditions set in place in the wake of her divorce from Pitt.
"I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as [the twins] are 18, I'll be able to leave," she told The Hollywood Reporter about her reasons for remaining in Los Angeles.
Jolie, 51, went on to reveal her desire to spend more time abroad, particularly in Cambodia, where her eldest son, Maddox, is from, and where she has owned a home for years.
"When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. Jason Day has withdrawn ahead of the 2026 3M Open due to a back injury.
The 13-time PGA Tour winner also withdrew from the U.S. Open due to the lingering back injury, which has hampered Day throughout his career. He missed the cut at the Open Championship and finished T-55 at the Travelers between major starts, but he won't tee it up this week at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.

It didn't take long for us to have our first Juventus injury of the worry for preseason training. And just like the most notable one that is basically carrying over from the end of the 2025-26 season that had us all wondering how the heck the best player on the roster was going to look when he played in his first World Cup, this is something that has not gone away since Juve's season-ending draw to Torino in May.
So while Kenan Yildiz's lingering knee issue will certainly be a topic of discussion when he returns from his deserved albeit shortened summer vacation after spending a few weeks in North America last month, the first day of Juventus players rolling up to Continassa for training and medical exams revealed something.
More specifically, a thing on Khephren Thuram's right knee.
That is because the knee issue that hampered Thuram late in the 2025-26 season is still present. And that was evident as Thuram walked out of J Medical after Monday's checkups with a fairly large wrap on his right knee — a clear sign that the femoro-patellar syndrome is still a thing. Thuram has not been training with the rest of the group at Continassa as manager Luciano Spalletti leads his first preseason in Turin, and it's unclear when one of Juventus' most important players will actually join the rest of his teammates as they wait for the small number of World Cup participants to arrive over the next couple of weeks.
Thuram is not expected to take part in the first preseason friendly of the summer on Saturday when Juventus travel to Switzerland to face old friend Stephan Lichtsteiner and FC Basel.

France head into the last four showdown as the world number one-ranked team and having won all their games to date, while Luis de la Fuente's men kicked off with a poor goalless draw against Cape Verde.
But Deschamps told a press conference: "If you see what Spain did in their first match, forget about that, but in the rest Spain confirmed they are the favourite.
"They can attack and defend well, and they have only conceded one goal. We know how to defend well but with the quality of the two teams offensively we think it is going to be a spectacular game."
Meanwhile Deschamps shrugged off any lingering doubt about captain and Golden Boot-leading star Kylian Mbappe, who went off early in the last eight win over Morocco, saying simply: "He trained today."

Now, it seems their work is beginning to earn national recognition, as The Athletic's Ted Nguyen recently included New Orleans among five offenses poised to break out heading into the 2026 season.
"The Saints have quietly put together a strong offense through the draft," Nguyen wrote. "They drafted both their young, talented tackles: left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. this year and right tackle Taliese Fuaga in 2024."
Shough is the most important piece of the Saints' offensive foundation, though. The 2025 second-round pick finished second in NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting after helping New Orleans to win four of its final five games. Another year in Kellen Moore's offense should help Shough continue to develop, but improved protection might be even more important. The Saints finished 29th in pass-block win rate last season, while Shough ranked 41st among qualifying quarterbacks in pressure-to-sack rate.
Nguyen added: "With a season of development for Banks and Edwards playing inside of him, the offensive line should do a better job of keeping Shough clean, which is vital. If the Saints can protect Shough, he has a chance to produce like a tier 2 quarterback."
The Saints also signed David Edwards, whom Nguyen considered the best guard available in free agency, to strengthen their interior offensive line. Edwards will join Banks and Fuaga in a unit with the potential to improve considerably in both pass protection and run blocking. Nolan Wells' parents are speaking out for the first time on their grief and lingering questions after the 18-year-old was found dead following his disappearance over the July 4 weekend. Christine and Elmore Wonsley, along with their attorney Ben Crump, sat with "Good Morning America" host Michael Strahan for an emotional interview on July 10 in which they reflected on their sorrow over Wells' loss and explained their confusion about what led to his death. Wells was last seen on Mississippi's Horn Island during a holiday boating trip with friends. Crump previously confirmed to NBC News that Christine had reported her son missing that night when he didn't return with the others in his group. A two-day search culminated in a park ranger finding Wells' body ashore on the island.
