That game will be packed but today's friendly against a lightweight AC Milan side that will be missing multiple top performers, will not be well attended due to the Celtic support once again being frustrated and angry with the club for creating another summer of discontent through their inactivity in transfer market, so far only getting one deal over the line with the £5m signing of Camilo Duran from Qarabag.
That transfer fee has been more than covered by the sale of Luis Palma to Lech Poznan for £3.5m and Maik Nawrocki to RC Lens for £2m. And with Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson in discussions to sign four new players, it looks like the delay could be caused by an instruction to wait for sales of key players like Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels before proceeding with the purchases Martin O'Neill needs this week.
Maeda should compete his move to Ipswich Town today and that could result in Kasper Hogh from Bodo Glimt coming to Celtic early next week, fingers crossed anyway.
Meanwhile Celtic are haggling over a few hundred grand which is frustrating the move for German midfielder Mika Baur with SC Paderborn resisting the latest Celtic lowballing attempt for their player who has already agreed personal terms with the Scottish Champions and wants the move to happen.

Fraternal twins Iman and Jihan Qamhiyeh have their sights set on playing basketball at the highest level, and their talent is already attracting attention from college programs before they begin high school.
The twins, who recently graduated from eighth grade, have received six Division I offers, according to Buchanan High School head coach Adam Wall.
"Yeah, the word's getting out about their game and how they play," Wall said.
Iman and Jihan, both 6-foot-1, have spent years competing in travel basketball, participating in twice-daily workouts and training in high-level practices. Their dedication has translated into success on the court against top competition.
"One time we were shopping and someone was like: 'Oh are you shopping for college?' I was like, 'I'm in eighth grade,' and they were like, ' What the heck," the twins said.

Preseason PAC-12 honors are rolling in for Fresno State Football as the Bulldogs are now just weeks away from the opening of Fall Camp.
Athlon Sports released its 2026 All-PAC12 teams, highlighted by 16 selections from Fresno State.
Senior star cornerback Simeon Harris leading the way for first-team selections.
The All-Mountain West honorable mention led the conference in interceptions, helping to revamp the Bulldog defense along with fellow first-teamer defensive lineman Deijon Laffitee.
Sophomore Left Tackle and Buchanan grad Brayden Walton also snagging first team honors, helping to anchor Coach Entz's rushing attack, which gained its most yards on the ground since 2018.

It's considered one of the most famous bogeys in major championship history – Jordan Spieth's chaotic, 29-minute scene on Royal Birkdale's 13th hole during the 2017 Open that included Spieth taking an unplayable from the side of a massive dune and hitting his third shot from the club's driving range.
But such a '5' will never be emulated again – at least not this week.
As golf's oldest major returns to the Southport links, the lay of the land at No. 13 looks markedly different following a significant renovation in 2024 that altered at least portions of every hole on the property.

As we prepare to present our Providence Journal All-State teams for the spring season, we're going to to look back at the winter high school sports season, and highlight our high school Players of the Year for those sports.
There are the the winners that our staff selected in each sport and presented awards to at our June 18 All-State Awards Show held at The Providence Performing Arts Center, featuring URI wide receiver Marquis Buchanan.
We did our part, and now we're asking for your help. We're asking you to select the Longplex athlete of the season, for each of the three seasons on the high school sports calendar. Last week, we highlighted the fall players of the year - and North Kingstown volleyball star Kayleigh Garrepy won that poll. Now, we want to hear from you about the Longplex Athlete of the Winter. Below are the Players of the Year for each of the winter sports. Tell us who you would choose as the Longplex Athlete of the Winter.

There wasn’t a more respected – or feared – player in Rhode Island than Bousquet, who wrapped up her career with the Quakers with her fourth All-State nod and third appearance on the All-State team. With Bousquet on the court, Moses Brown was a ***** le contender, reaching the Division I final and falling in a nailbiter against eventual champ Barrington in the state tournament. This season Bousquet scored her 2,000th career point, averaged over 27 points per game and earned Gatorade Player of the Year. She’ll continue her career at Marist University.

After winning the first moto of the RedBud National in Buchanan, Michigan, Jett Lawrence slammed his helmet to the ground, and on a hot microphone, said that is was difficult to ride with only one foot.
Jett took the lead from Jorge Prado on Lap 4 and led the next 10 laps before being overtaken by his brother, Hunter Lawrence, with three remaining. Hunter built a lead of more than five seconds, but on the final lap his bike stalled after collecting a rock, handing the moto victory back to Jett.

BUCHANAN, MI — The biggest pro motocross event every year takes place in southwestern Michigan.

Jett Lawrence passed Hunter Lawrence on the last lap of the Red Bud National at Buchanan, Michigan, to end a two-race losing streak.
Hunter tracked his brother down late in Moto 1 of the RedBud National in Buchanan, Michigan, easily took the lead, and built a six-second gap before he crashed halfway through the final lap.
Jett came to RedBud MX in Buchanan, Michigan, with a chip on his shoulder after losing both motos at High Point. He posted the fastest lap in the first qualification session, crashed in Qualification 2, and took the lead from Jorge Prado on Lap 3 of the first moto.

Wales rugby great Ray Gravell is to be inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame.
The former British and Irish Lions centre, who died at the age of 56 in 2007, will be honoured at a special ceremony in Saundersfoot.
His wife Mari and daughters Manon and Gwenan will receive the award and his former team-mates Delme Thomas, Roy Bergiers, Gareth Jenkins and Anthony Buchanan are set to be among the guests.
Former Wales footballers Ian Walsh and Simon Davies are also being honoured, along with St Davids headteacher Rachel Thomas and Atlantic rower Janine Williams.
Gravell won 23 caps for Wales and played in all four Tests for the Lions on their 1980 tour to South Africa.

Switzerland have secured their spot in the Round of 16 following a 2-0 win over Algeria in Vancouver, which saw Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye get on the scoresheet.
It was Embolo who opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, ******* isted by youngster Johan Manzambi, before Ndoye doubled their advantage early in the second half, killing off the tie.
Switzerland named their oldest XI ever for a World Cup knockout game for this one, with Dennis Zakaria replacing Luca Jaquez at right-back and Ndoye replacing Lucas Sow on the wing. This was also Granit Xhaka's 150th cap for his country, making him the 49th player in history to reach that tally in men's internationals.
Meanwhile, Algeria made three changes with Luca Zidane returning in goal ahead of Oussama Benbot, whilst Ryan Ait-Nouri replaced Jaouen Hadjam at left-back and Zerrouki came into the middle of the park in favour of Amine Gouri.

Following the first off-week of the outdoor season, the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) continues with Round 5 of 2026 Pro Motocross, Round 22 of SMX, as the action gets underway Saturday, July 4, at RedBud MX in Buchanan, Michigan, at 1:00 p.m. ET on Peacock.tv.
Race Day Live will cover qualification, beginning at 10 a.m. ET on Peacock on Saturday.
Hunter Lawrence evened up the win total in the last outing at High Point Raceway, scoring his second overall to an uncharacteristically moderate Jett Lawrence, who finished a distant second in both races. The Lawrence brothers remain perfect with Jett scoring the other two wins.

This week, The Providence Journal will begin our Spring All-State photo shoots at our downtown offices and our Spring All-State teams will be published – online an in print – in the coming weeks. And today, we're going to launch a new high school sports poll, piggybacking on our June 18 All-State Awards Show held at The Providence Performing Arts Center, featuring URI wide receiver Marquis Buchanan.

Ludwig’s freshman campaign was beyond impressive, as she finished third at the state meet, and she left little doubt about her talent this fall. The sophomore won gold this fall with a time of 18:17.27, more than 27 seconds faster than anyone else, and then went on to finish fifth at New Englands. It’s hard to imagine what she’ll do the next two years but it will be fun to watch.

No more math. No more goal differential calculations or need for an advanced physics degree to figure out which third place finishers in groups will play in the knockout rounds, who they’ll play, where they’ll play. For 10 consecutive days, starting Sunday, global soccer fans will be treated to a steady diet of win-or-go-home World Cup games, unspooling in stadiums across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Right through the Rounds of 32 and 16; on July 8th, there’s one day off before the quarters.
On the first day of knockoutpalooza, one of the World Cup co-hosts, Canada, took center stage. Canada was in an unusual, and potentially difficult, spot for its Round of 32 contest against South Africa: it became the first World Cup host country to play a game outside its borders. Canada just needed a draw with Switzerland in its final group stage game, on June 24th in Vancouver, to remain in British Columbia through the Round of 16, should Canada get that far. Instead, Switzerland won 2-1, shuttling the Canadians, who’ve never reached a World Cup elimination round in their two prior appearances, in 1986 and 2022, to Los Angeles.
At least the trip was a straight jaunt down the coast. And all game long, Canada outclassed South Africa, who at times appeared content to hold the ball and take the game to a penalty shootout (earning jeers from the Canada-heavy crowd). But Canada still couldn’t break through: the game looked headed for this World Cup’s first 30-minute extra time session. But Canada, it turns out, had more dramatic ideas in mind.

He touched the ball down and fired from the top of the penalty area, right inside the far post. Williams had no shot at saving it.
On the first day of knockoutpalooza, one of the World Cup co-hosts, Canada, took center stage. Canada was in an unusual, and potentially difficult, spot for its Round of 32 contest against South Africa: it became the first World Cup host country to play a game outside its borders. Canada just needed a draw with Switzerland in its final group stage game, on June 24th in Vancouver, to remain in British Columbia through the Round of 16, should Canada get that far. Instead, Switzerland won 2-1, shuttling the Canadians, who’ve never reached a World Cup elimination round in their two prior appearances, in 1986 and 2022, to Los Angeles.
At least the trip was a straight jaunt down the coast. And all game long, Canada outclassed South Africa, who at times appeared content to hold the ball and take the game to a penalty shootout (earning jeers from the Canada-heavy crowd). It seemed like it was going to be a quiet day on the Marquette To NBA front as there was no chance of Ben Gold or Chase Ross getting selected in Wednesday night’s second round of the NBA Draft. However, Indiana Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan and Chicago Bulls general manager Stephen Mervis had different ideas. After Chicago selected Purdue guard Braden Smith with the 8th pick of the second round and the 38th pick overall, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania broke some news on a trade:

Indiana is trading Jones to the Bulls along with some yet to be revealed future pick swaps and cash in exchange for the draft rights to Smith.
Jones was the #38 pick one year ago, technically being selected by San Antonio before a trade that was finalized after the fact sent him to the Pacers, much like this trade will eventually be finalized because the NBA rules about the league schedule are weird and bad. Marquette’s #2 all time leading scorer appeared in 37 games for Indiana this past season as the Pacers went 19-63 with Tyrese Haliburton out for the year after suffering an Achilles tear in the 2025 NBA Finals. Jones started seven times along the way and ended up averaging 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 3.2 ******* ists in 16.6 minutes per game. One thing that did not help Jones’ playing time was his 29.3% three-point shooting, and that was dragged down by shooting just 25% in Indiana’s final seven games of the season.
After being taken in the second round last year, Jones signed a three year contract with the Pacers that has a fourth season on a team option. In theory, that means that the Bulls are up for the idea of continuing Jones’ development for at least another two seasons. I would wager it means we will see him in Chicago black & red when Summer League pops up in July. Where things go from there as Tiago Splitter takes over as head coach and the Bulls move on from the front office pairing of Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley, we will have to wait and see…..

Former Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snyder has made the U.S. senior wrestling team once again, but this time it wasn't easy. Snyder lost to a fellow American for the first time in ten years in the best-of-three wrestle-off against James Buchanan in the 2026 Final X Trials, but then took care of business to make his 12th straight U.S. World Championship team.
Snyder won the first match 5-2, then dropped the second match via a late takedown to force a third and deciding match. The former All-American won the final match easily, 9-3, to earn his way onto the team that will compete in the 2026 Senior Wrestling World Championships. That will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1. Snyder will wrestle at 97 Kg. and will face a formidable field once again.
Snyder is one of the best to ever wear the Scarlet and Gray singlet. He was a four-time All-American in Columbus, helping the Buckeyes to win the 2015 NCAA team championship, and was a three-time heavyweight Big Ten and NCAA national champion. Jonathan David scored a hat-trick as co-hosts Canada claimed their first-ever World Cup win in style, with a 6-0 thrashing over nine-man Qatar on Thursday.
The Canadians started the home tournament with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina but bounced back in the best possible way.
They led 2-0 by the half-hour mark thanks to goals from Cyle Larin and Jonathan David.
Qatar had their first player sent off in the 33rd minute. Homam Ahmed tripped Tajon Buchanan and the referee initially awarded Canada a penalty.
After video review the decision was overturned, while Ahmed's yellow card was upgraded to a red.

Qatar was reduced to nine players because of red cards in the chaotic match. ***** im Madibo was handed a red early in the second half after a tackle on Ismaël Koné, who was stretched off with a serious injury to his lower left leg. Homan Ahmed was sent off in the first half for a challenge on Tajon Buchanan.

Canada has finally gotten a win at the 2026 World Cup — though it came at a price.
In the second game of group stage play, Les Rouges crushed Qatar 6-0 to pick up its first victory in its history at the tournament. Qatar picked up two straight red cards throughout the game, ending with nine players and looking completely incapable of stopping the Canadian attack.
It took little time for Canada to get on the board, with Cyle Larin finding the back of the next in the 16th minute off a rebound shot. Jonathan David then picked up a first-half brace, first scoring off a volley in the 29th minute before getting a rebound in first-half stoppage time.
