In the 73rd minute of a scoreless match, Malawi forward Temwa Chawinga shot down the field like an arrow to receive a long pass from midfield. The ball dropped into the pocket between the opponent's backline and goalkeeper, a ripe scenario for an attacker whose pace is as blistering as her decision-making.
Chawinga, who plays for the Kansas City Current in the National Women's Soccer League, nudged the ball with her chest to the goalkeeper's left, ran around her right, and found a half volley to begin an extraordinary new chapter of firsts in her career: not only her first goal at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, but also her country's.
Malawi defeated 10-time champions and current continental ***** le holders Nigeria in a dramatic 3-2 upset victory on Tuesday, thanks to two goals from Temwa and one from her older sister and OL Lyonnes forward, Tabitha, at the Al Medina Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
The win puts the southern African nation in a crucial second place in their group behind Zambia on goal differential.
"We are going (to WAFCON) to compete, not just to participate," Chawinga told The Athletic before she departed for Morocco.

Burma's government approved the death penalty as punishment for internet scammers just months after the Fbi announced a sweeping $8 billion crackdown on scam networks coming from the country, according to the country's state-backed media.
The Anti-Online Scam Law passed the country's parliament on Tuesday, green lighting the death penalty for anyone who participates in a scam in which they "commit violence, torture, unlawfully arrest or detain, or treat any person in a cruel manner," according to The Global New Light of Myanmar, a media outlet jointly operated by a private company and the country's Ministry of the Interior.
Burma, also known as Myanmar, has become ground zero for digital scams, with criminals often recruiting migrants from other Asian countries with promises of legitimate work only to imprison them and force them to conduct the scams.
In May, the FBI announced a massive crackdown on a criminal network in Burma known as the "Democratic Karen Benevolent Army." The operation resulted in the seizure of 127,000 Bitcoin, worth over $8 billion as of July.

NEW DELHI: West Indies captain Roston Chase said his team's 90-run victory over Pakistan in the opening Test was a tribute to legendary all-rounder Garry Sobers, with the players determined to honour the cricket great. Sobers, widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the game's history, passed away on July 17 at the age of 89. Tuesday marked what would have been his 90th birthday.
Following West Indies' victory at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Chase revealed that the team had spoken about Sobers before the match.

"We wanted to make him proud and had a chat about it before the match. I hope he is smiling down on us."

Chase also thanked the fans who turned up to support the home side.

"I also want to thank the Trinidad crowd for coming out and supporting us. It was not a big crowd, but it gave us enough energy and support to go out there and perform," Chase said.

The win handed West Indies a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.
West Indies entered the Pakistan series after a 1-0 Test series victory over Sri Lanka, and Chase said the team's recent performances were the result of months of hard work.

"I think these two teams that we've played, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, they're closer to us in the rankings. I don't want to say they're teams we should beat, but I think it's a more even contest between us."
He further said, "The guys are confident and over the last few months we've been putting in some extra hard work. We had a camp as well before the Sri Lanka series and I think that really helped us become closer as a unit and also work on our weaknesses and improve our strengths as well. So I think that this is the upliftment of that practice and camp."
Fast bowlers dominated throughout the match at Tarouba, with all 40 wickets falling to seam bowling.

Justin Greaves starred with 5/27 in Pakistan's first innings, while Jayden Seales claimed 5/20 in the second innings. Together, they picked up 13 wickets.

Greaves also produced the rare achievement of bowling five successive wicket maidens in Pakistan's first innings.

Speaking about the conditions, Chase said, "I think it just goes to show that it was more friendly towards the seamers. The Pakistani spinner (Ali Usman) bowled a number of overs (13 in the first innings), he didn't get a wicket. (Jomel) Warrican bowled a few (18 across two innings), didn't get a wicket and didn't look too threatening as well. The (fast bowlers) really put the ball in the right areas and it paid off."

Kate Cassidy has removed one of her tribute tattoos to Liam Payne.
On Tuesday, the social media influencer took to Instagram to share a picture from Skin Club Miami laser studio. She captioned the mirror selfie, "tattoo removal today."

Along the video, the influencer clarified she "decided to get some tattoos removed that were done poorly," however, she "will be getting redone eventually."
The influencer had several tattoos done in honor of Liam. She also has one of angel wings and his initials, "LP," on her wrist.

Ever wonder where A-list actors get their start? Often, it's not under the spotlight but behind the scenes, blending into crowds and delivering silent performances. These now-household names paid their dues in the background before nabbing leading roles and Oscar gold. From iconic action heroes to beloved comedic stars, here are the familiar faces who once started out as background actors and how each made their way to center stage.
ZUMA Press / MEGA
Before he was an action icon, Bruce Willis appeared in countless film and TV projects as an uncredited extra, including a background role as a courtroom observer in the Oscar-nominated legal drama The Verdict, as reported by Backstage. These early experiences paved the way for his breakthrough television role as wisecracking detective David Addison on Moonlighting, the series that first turned him into a household name, according to Britannica.
MEGA
Evangeline Lilly's path to fame started quietly, as she took on small, non-speaking parts on shows like Smallville and Kingdom Hospital before ever landing a credited role, as reported by TVOvermind. It was her role as Kate Austen on the ABC drama Lost that catapulted her to fame, with producers casting the relative newcomer over dozens of more experienced actresses who read for the part, according to CBR. Today, she's a leading action star with a loyal fanbase.

Lady Diana Spencer and then-Prince (now King) Charles' 1981 wedding was nothing short of a spectacle. One that, even today, remains among the most talked-about weddings of all time.
The pair first met in 1977, when she was 16 and he was 29. In 1980, the Prince of Wales began courting the nursery school ****** istant, and by February 1981, Charles had proposed and the two were headed down the aisle.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles wed in an extravagant ceremony held at St. Paul's Cathedral in London on July 29, 1981. With Diana being the first British woman to marry an heir to the throne in 300 years, the palace spared no expense, declaring the special day a public holiday and doling out a jaw-dropping $48 million, according to Smithsonian magazine.
About 3,500 people attended the ceremony, while more than 600,000 people lined the streets and 7.5 million more tuned in at home to watch the nuptials.
The pair welcomed sons William and Harry in 1982 and 1984, but the former Prince and Princess of Wales' marriage was famously tumultuous. In his authorized biography, The Prince of Wales, published in 1994, Charles confirmed he began his affair with former flame Camilla Parker Bowles in 1986. Ex-army Major James Hewitt also claimed to have begun an affair with Diana around this time, which he said lasted for the next five years.

PITTSBURGH — The Arizona Diamondbacks' Tuesday win over the Pittsburgh Pirates had fans feeling every emotion, but one feeling that resonated throughout the fan base was exasperation.

What looked like a dominant 6-0 Diamondbacks lead turned into a 6-3 game before the ninth inning, forcing Arizona to turn to closer Paul Sewald as a blowout became a save opportunity. The Pirates, who trailed throughout, rallied in the ninth, tying the game on a two-run shot and a solo home run off Sewald.
The closer was eventually pulled after recording one out and allowing three earned runs, but questions about his role lingered long after the Snakes secured an 8-7 win in extra innings.

PITTSBURGH — The Arizona Diamondbacks' 8-7 extra-inning win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday night was a nail-biter. More importantly, it continued to raise one question: Is Paul Sewald still the right person to close games?

The D-Backs looked poised to take the win in regulation, leading the Pirates 6-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning. However, a turbulent inning by right-hander Ryan Thompson allowed Pittsburgh to cut the lead in half heading into the ninth. Instead of a comfortable win, it became a save opportunity for Sewald — and it wasn't his night.
A two-run homer followed by a solo shot tied the game, marking the closer's third blown save of the season. He eventually recorded one out before being pulled as the game went into extra innings.

You guys have probably heard the line 'its hard not to be romantic about baseball' before, and tonight was a perfect encapsulation of that very phrase. It had all the highs of the big blowout win, the heartbreak of the blown save, and then the triumph of the unsung hero coming out of nowhere in the extra innings to save the team. Nights like tonight either drive you crazy, or make you fall in love with the game that much more. No other sport can play with our emotions quite like baseball can.
The Diamondbacks offense got off to such an amazing start. Scoring consistently with team baseball throughout each of the first 4 innings. It really felt like this offense was clicking. Overall they recorded 16 hits in the 12 innings highlighted by James McCann with 4 and Nolan Arenado with 3. On the flip side, this offense also set a franchise record recording 24 outs with runners in scoring position tonight. What started out so good, quickly turned into a start reminder of the problems that have been plaguing this offense most of the season with its struggles with RISP.
Then in the 7th inning, the offense suddenly came to a screeching halt. And the Pirates offense came jolting to life. The Pirates would erase the 6-0 lead the Dbacks had going into the 8th inning with 3 runs in the 8th and 3 runs in the 9th. Unfortunately what had been a strength much of the season in the backend of the bullpen in Thompson and Sewald was a weakness tonight. Thompson simply could not get away with anything tonight giving up 4 hits and a walk in just .2 of an inning. And the leader of this bullpen, Sewald came into the game with a 3 run lead in the 9th and proceeded to give up a base hit and back to back home runs to immediately erase the 3 run lead and tie the game. This was such a low moment for this team in such a big game. Especially with how lock down Sewald has been in save situations this season coming into the game having blown only 2 saves in 24 chances.
However fortunately for the Dbacks there was Gerardo Carillo who tonight put this team on his back and carried them back into the 3rd wildcard spot. Carrillo, who came into today working primarily as the low leverage long man, was thrust straight into some of the most high leverage innings of the season thus far, and boy did he deliver. Carillo was able to give the team 2 innings tonight in which he allowed 0 hits and 0 runs while striking out 3 while getting his first career major league win. He threw a 6 pitch scoreless 11th and then put up another 0 in the 12th to keep this team alive. Carillo has always been an intriguing relief option in the upper minors given his upper 90's fastball velocity combined with his pitch mix including a cutter, a splitter, and sinker. However tonight he also showed that he has what could arguably be the most important trait for a late inning reliever and that is he has that dog in him.
It is also worth discussing Brandon Pfaadt who tonight was dominant over 7 innings and definite

Tuesday (July 28) was a big day in the NFL, as the final 26 teams reported to training camp.
That means, as quickly as anyone can say camp has begun, the Arizona Cardinals have concluded the extra week of work they had because of their presence in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday, Aug. 6 against the Carolina Panthers.
Like the Cardinals, the Panthers also had their veterans report on July 22.
All coaches are big into planning, but Cardinals defensive coordinator Nick Rallis might be at the top of the list in looking ahead. So it was that he was asked last Friday what he was accomplishing with the extra week that he might not have been able to without the additional practice time.
"It's so funny," he said. "Like, I'm kind of mapping out installs for the future and it's like, dang, this is an extra week. What would I be doing if I didn't have this extra week? Because I'm like, 'Oh man, I got to get this in somewhere.' But I would say the biggest thing with that extra week is you can spread out installing the scheme, which allows you to just take your time a little bit more during the install meetings and really be on the details with the players.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — James McCann singled in the winning run in the 12th inning with his fourth hit of the game and the Arizona Diamondbacks held on for an 8-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night despite blowing a six-run lead.
Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds hit back-to-back home runs for the Pirates to spark a three-run rally against closer Paul Sewald in the ninth to tie the game at 6-all and force extra innings. Lowe's two-run shot was his team-leading 22nd of the season.
It was Sewald's third blown save in 27 opportunities.
The Pirates also had a three-run eighth to make it 6-3 on RBI singles by Ryan O'Hearn, Endy Rodríguez and Marcell Ozuna.
Both teams scored runs in the 10th on errors.

WS Amati Global Innovation Fund, managed by a UK-based equity management firm from AMAti Global Investors, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter is available to download here. Financial market performance in the second quarter was dominated by geopolitical conflict and enthusiasm for AI. Significant investments across all elements of AI resulted in exceptional growth for related companies, ranging from chip producers to companies constructing data centres. The fund outperformed the MSCI ACWI benchmark due to its diversified exposure beyond headline AI firms, with semiconductor and equipment suppliers being major contributors. At the same time, software and IT services faced investor skepticism due to fears of automation despite long-term potential. The firm is confident in the innovation frontiers to capture long-term growth opportunities in automation, semiconductors, and advanced technologies. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, WS Amati Global Innovation Fund highlighted Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB). Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB), a technology services company that provides digital transformation, AI, and software development solutions, detracted from the Fund's performance during the quarter. On July 24, 2026, Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB) closed at $31.30 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $1.35 billion. Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB) posted a one-month return of 9.72%, while its shares lost 64.62% over the past 52 weeks.
WS Amati Global Innovation Fund stated the following regarding Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Although both companies weighed on performance, the largest single detractor was Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB), the US listed IT services and digital engineering business. It too was a casualty of the excessive extrapolation we believe investors are currently making and we have been gently adding on weakness to all three names."
Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB) is not on our list of 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds Heading Into 2026. According to our database, 25 hedge fund portfolios held Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB) at the end of the first quarter, compared to 33 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Seahawks fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
The Seattle Seahawks don't have a starting quarterback debate right now. What a relief to finally say that after enduring "Geno Smith vs. Drew Lock and "Can Sam Howell be the guy?" in those first three post-Russell Wilson seasons. This is Sam Darnold's team until further notice.
But this week's Seahawks Reacts survey question and poll is all about second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe, whose rookie season intrigue fizzled out by Week 5 after an ill-fated option play led to a turnover. The former Alabama star was restricted to third-team offense throughout training camp and preseason, slotting in as the third-string quarterback behind Darnold and Drew Lock.
Sam Darnold's continued success lessens the quarterback worries for now, but it's still fair to wonder how Milroe's development will come along. Is he somehow going to make enough strides to be QB2 over veteran Drew Lock and his expiring contract? Or will he once again be QB3 and subject to some healthy scratches? Could he be QB3 but still feature in the offense more often? Worst case scenario (for him): Is his Seahawks tenure already in jeopardy?
Vote in the poll below! What lies ahead for Milroe entering Week 1? Note that "starting QB" is not an option because we live in the real world and it would take extraordinary circumstances for him to earn the starting spot this year.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Patrick Surtain II felt like he was in a maze. Quinn Meinerz was glad his truck wasn't baking in the Colorado sun.
The Denver Broncos prepared to open training camp this week from their new $175 million headquarters, which was designed with players in mind.
"Oh, this is incredible," said Meinerz, the Broncos' perennial All-Pro guard. "I'm finding new things every time. I've just stayed on the first floor. I got to park underground. When I get done with practice my truck's not going to be 150 degrees. That's a nice little thing."
The Broncos will hold their first practice of their acclimation period Wednesday in the shadows of the new state-of-the-art facility funded by owners Greg Penner and Carrie Walton Penner.
It was designed to keep players from having to exert extra energy in a superfluous manner, such as long walks to their weight room like they had to make in their old headquarters across the football fields, buildings that will be torn down after training camp next month.

The Green Bay Packers announced four roster moves ahead of the start of training camp, including a swap of international exemption players.
The team released kicker Lucas Havrisik and edge rusher Dante Barnett and signed tight end Thomas Yassmin and kicker Lenny Krieg on Tuesday.
The kicker swap means Krieg will now represent the competition for rookie Trey Smack, while the addition of Yassmin provides a healthy body at tight end, where the Packers are dealing with injuries to Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave (both on the PUP list) to start camp.
Krieg made a 57-yard field goal and his lone extra point attempt during the preseason with the Atlanta Falcons in 2025.
Yassmin, a former Rugby player, played 42 snaps during the preseason with the Denver Broncos in 2024 and 13 with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. He has never appeared in a regular season game.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's 'Double Nickel' plan would freeze property taxes at 55, saving roughly 3.3 million homeowners $950 a year.
No-income-tax states like Florida and Tennessee are most likely to adopt similar policies, while high-tax states like New Jersey may pursue means-tested versions.
Homeowners near 55 should check existing county exemptions they may already qualify for and file appraisal protests before any new legislation passes.
Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
Texas is floating a proposal that could reshape how millions of homeowners think about turning 55. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick's "Double Nickel" plan would drop the qualifying age for a homestead property-tax freeze from 65 to 55, giving eligible homeowners an extra decade of protection from rising tax bills. The idea is being studied ahead of the 2027 legislative session in a state where property taxes supply 40.7% of state and local tax revenue and the effective rate on owner-occupied homes is 1.40%. That raises a fair question for homeowners elsewhere: Could this spread?

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers are waiving their franchise record holder for longest field goal made in a game.
The Packers are moving on from Lucas Havrisik on the eve of training camp, a source told PackersNews. Havrisik kicked in only three games last season, but among his four field goals was a franchise-long 61 yarder last October in Arizona.
Havrisik, initially signed as an injury replacement for veteran Brandon McManus, made all four of his field goal attempts. He was 7-of-9 on extra points, both misses coming on a blustery day at the New York Giants.
The Packers signed Lenny Krieg earlier July 28. Krieg will get a chance to compete with Trey Smack, a rookie drafted in the sixth round this spring.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Virginia university missed opportunities to learn of a student's terrorism-related conviction before the man opened fire in an ROTC class in March, injuring two students and killing an Army veteran who fought back with "extraordinary heroism," an investigative report released Tuesday found.
The federal probation officer working with Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, who spent eight years in prison for attempting to aid the Islamic State, did not share Jalloh's criminal background with Old Dominion University, despite the serious nature of the offense, according to the report, which was produced by the law firm Cooley on behalf of the university.
Jalloh, who also died in the March attack, had attended the public university in Norfolk beginning in 2007, was suspended in 2010 and reenrolled after his early release from prison in December 2024. He was readmitted to the school in May last year.
No federal or state law enforcement agency reported his prior conviction either, the report said.
State law prohibits the university from inquiring about student criminal history before admission or readmission, according to the report. The university could have asked readmitted students to voluntarily disclose their criminal history but did not at the time, the report said.

MIAMI GARDENS ― About seven Miami Dolphins receivers took up quarterback Malik Willis on an offer to do voluntary workouts in Jacksonville this summer.
"I'm just glad that they had a little time to spend and we can steal a couple reps before we get in the training camp," Willis said on the day training camp opened.
Four of the known receivers were Malik Washington, Greg Dulcich, Seydou Traore and Cole Turner.
What did Willis takeway from the extra work?
"Little things that you probably don't notice just looking around like who gets out there breaks faster, who I can throw to a little earlier than later, who likes it right on them or do they like it above their head?" Willis said. "I mean, just all those type of things that can help you be successful as far as minimizing risk."

Julian Alvarez's future is no clearer to being resolved even though we are inching closer and closer to the start of the new La Liga season.
The Argentina international said during the World Cup "the best thing for everyone is a transfer" but Atletico have made it clear they don't agree, while Barcelona are hoping they might change their minds.
Barca reporter Achraf Ben Ayad has summarized the situation and says Alvarez has three options available to him to resolve the situation.
He posted on X: "Julián's situation is complicated. He has three options ahead of him: Apologize and try to mend his relationship with Atlético. Take an extra step for the sake of Barcelona. Agree with Atlético to bring in a strong offer from outside Spain in order to leave."
Atletico do seem to be willing to mend the relationship with their striker, as CEO Gil Marin has said he has "no doubt that Atlético is the right place in the world for Julián, and Julián is the perfect striker for Atlético de Madrid."

While the world waits for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce to drop their wedding photos, the singer is getting an extra-special present from patients at Children's Mercy Hospital.
On Monday, July 20, the Kansas City-based children's hospital shared a series of photos on their Instagram after several patients helped design a wedding gown as a one-of-a-kind gift for Swift.

Blue Jays might have fixed Jeff Hoffman originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Toronto Blue Jays have dealt with plenty of problems this season, and it has led to lots of disappointment after having made it to extra innings in Game 7 of the World Series to end the 2025 campaign.
Many of the problems still exist, but the Blue Jays seem to have at least solved Jeff Hoffman's issues.
Hoffman, who blew the save in Game 7, opened this year in miserable form. It was just a mighty struggle.
He earned himself a demotion from the closer role, and he's had to work to prove he still deserves decent bullpen opportunities.

The Miami Dolphins have had their rookies back in the building for a full week now, but their veterans are returning on Tuesday, as the team prepares for their first training camp sessions under new head coach Jeff Hafley.
While some Dolphins have their jobs guaranteed for the 2026 season, others will spend the next month fighting for a spot on the roster and opportunities once the season officially starts in September.
Before that, let's refamiliarize ourselves with the 91 players on Miami's roster as training camp begins. The team is allowed an extra player because they have an International Pathway Program player under contract.

The Green Bay Packers held tryouts for nine different players on Monday, just two days before Matt LaFleur's team opens training camp with a practice on Wednesday. Of the nine players, four were running backs and three were tight ends -- suggesting the Packers are looking for extra bodies at the two injury-affected positions to start camp. The idea is reinforced by the fact that tight ends Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave landed on the PUP list and running back Chris Brooks was placed on the non-football injury list on Monday. This time of year, teams will churn the bottom of the roster to make sure they have enough numbers to successfully operate camp practices.
The following nine players were in Green Bay for a tryout on Monday:
TE Josh Beetham (Georgia Tech): Converted quarterback played 11 games over three seasons at Michigan before seeing action in 23 games at GT. Caught only nine passes over final two seasons. UDFA.
TE Drew Biber (Minnesota): Wisconsin native. Caught 18 passes for Minnesota in 2025 after playing first four seasons at Purdue. UDFA.
C Gus Hartwig (Purdue): Spent time with the New York Jets after signing as a UDFA in 2025. Made 48 college starts at center.
