After having left us at 86 years of age, the legendary Boston alum touched countless lives across the NBA and beyond it over the course of his career in the league as a player, head coach, and an executive. "Don Nelson's success as a Hall of Fame Coach is so vast, that it could overshadow his playing career, but it would be a mistake to do so," recalled the Celtics release.
"A favorite of (iconic Celtics general manager and head coach) Red Auerbach's, 'Nellie' was a tough and reliable all-around player whose tenacity and ability to 'think the game' was on full display throughout his 11 seasons with the Boston Celtics," it continues, "where he was a key member of five championship teams across two eras."
"His most celebrated moment as a player came in Game 7 of the 1969 NBA Finals against his former team the Los Angeles Lakers, when Nelson converted one of the most famous shots in playoff history—a foul-line jumper which dropped through the basket after hitting the back rim and bouncing several feet straight up," it adds.
"The shot, taken with just over a minute to go in the game and the Celtics clinging to a 103–102 lead, was an essential play in helping secure Boston's 11th NBA ****** le in 13 seasons," closes the release.

Diego Ferreira is invigorated after leaving the UFC Fight Night 284 co-main event with a Fight of the Night bonus and his first win since May 2024.
At 42, many were questioning if Saturday's lightweight bout against Billy Quarantillo (18-8 MMA, 6-6 UFC) would be the swan sang for Ferreira (20-7 MMA, 11-7 UFC) after losing his past two fights. Instead, he turned in his best performance in years, rocking his opponent several times en route to a unanimous decision win where he won all three rounds from every judge.
Ferreira has been a difficult out for anyone for the entirety of his more than 12-year UFC tenure. He wants to close it out strong over the next few years, and is using former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira as his inspiration to make what's left ahead, some of his best moments.
"I want to take it one-by-one first," Ferreira told MMA Junkie post-fight at UFC Fight Night 284. "I saw Glover Teixeira fighting to 45 or 46, so why not? I can maybe go further than that. But my family is first, so I'm going to sit down with my family thinking about it. But for sure a few more years to go thinking about that."
Ferreira was sharp in the octagon at UFC Fight Night 284. His right hand found a target over and over on Quarantillo's chin throughout the 15 minutes, and much to the surprise of Ferreira, he never touched the canvas.

Jihaad Campbell popped off the screen in the early portion of the scrimmage. The linebacker completely knocked Jurgens on his rear on an early run play. Later, Campbell fended off Steen at the second level and touched up running back Saquon Barkley. On the next play, he two-hand touched tight end Dallas Goedert after a sliding catch. I counted three more run plays in which Campbell was involved during the set. He did get washed out by Jurgens at one point. And in the "backed-up" period, he hesitated on a run blitz, and Barkley simply cut to the left and ran through the vacated gap. Zack Baun was equally impressive. On August 4, SentinelOne (NYSE:S) expanded its work with Amazon Web Services, folding its AI security tools into a single governance layer for Amazon Bedrock. The news arrives as the cybersecurity company's revenue growth is speeding up and its losses are shrinking, even as two of its top executives cashed out stock in the same stretch.
The new integration ties SentinelOne's Prompt Security, Singularity Cloud Security, and Singularity AI SIEM into Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, giving security teams one dashboard to watch, enforce, and fix AI risk. It builds on a narrower integration from June 2026 that put runtime guardrails at the Bedrock AgentCore gateway. This time the scope is bigger: usage visibility, policy enforcement across AWS and other clouds, threat detection, and automated fixes for misconfigured or noncompliant AI code. SentinelOne's tools are already sold through AWS Marketplace, and the company is targeting AWS re:Invent 2026 for the full governance layer's general release.
That product push lines up with a business that is growing faster, not slower. Fiscal first quarter revenue rose 21% year over year to $277 million, and SentinelOne guided for $289 million to $291 million in the following quarter, up from $242 million a year earlier. Scotiabank upgraded the stock from sector perform to sector outperform, pointing to that sales growth alongside a cybersecurity market that matters more as AI agents grow capable enough to probe for weaknesses. Recent cyberattacks on water systems across 12 US states have only sharpened that case. The losses are also narrowing. Operating loss fell to $79.7 million from $87.5 million a year prior, and net loss dropped to $76.2 million from $208.2 million, a sign the company is getting its cost base under control while it scales.
SentinelOne is still not profitable on a GAAP basis, and that gap has not closed, only narrowed. Two executives sold stock during the run described above. CFO Sonalee Parekh sold 12,987 shares on July 27, 2026, for about $237,013, and CEO Tomer Weingarten sold 53,811 shares on August 6, for roughly $1.1 million. Both sales were mandatory sell-to-cover trades tied to vesting restricted stock units, not open-market bets against the company, and each executive kept a large stake afterward, Parekh with 964,281 shares and Weingarten with 1,840,586. Still, the timing stands out. Parekh's sale came less than two weeks after shares touched a 52-week high of $20.71 on July 15, and Weingarten's came the day before shares set a fresh high of $21.51 on August 7. Johnson, who previously met with the media early in camp, spoke to reporters for the first time after being excused for four practices due to personal reasons. He touched on his reasoning for likely departing after this upcoming campaign:
"As you get older, things change in your life. Priorities … your children get older, your parents get older. And, so, it puts things into perspective. So, [it's] looking like this is probably potentially going to be probably my last year. Just 'cause I am getting to that point of those priorities away from football are starting to merge. Not that I don't enjoy— I love everything about this game and preparing for it. But that's kind of where I'm at in my career. Yeah, man, just looking forward to this year, playing the best I can, and stay healthy. And that's about it."
Johnson said he wanted to be "transparent" about his impending exit because it "allows [him] to kind of be at ease."

ILORIN, Kwara (AP) — Some of the 163 kidnapped Nigerians rescued from jihadi captivity have spoken of the suffering and fear they lived in for six months.
The freed captives, mostly women and children, were among over 300 kidnap victims freed by Nigerian forces this week.
They were handed over to the authorities by security forces in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, on Friday for medical attention and routine checks, and were anticipating their return home to reunite with their families.
Mary Ishaya recalled days without food, and being asked alongside others to bury other hostages who died in captivity.
The 44-year-old, who had never touched a dead body or buried one before, said: "I still cannot find the right words to describe what has happened to us. We saw death and suffering."

The early signing period is always a chaotic time for Florida State under Mike Norvell, and that was no different in December 2024.
After a 2-10 season, firing both coordinators, and losing their top commitment in the class, offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, the Seminoles knew they needed to pivot quickly. With no running back currently committed in their class, amazing for a program when the recruiting coordinator was also the running backs coach, and with released funds from Thomas' decommitment, the Seminoles flipped Ousmane Kromah from Georgia's recruiting class and landed the No. 3 running back in the 2025 cycle, according to 247Sports.
Even though the Georgia native did not enroll until the summer, Kromah came on campus with a college-ready frame, listed in 2025 as 6-foot-1, 218 pounds, and instantly started making his way up the depth chart. The true freshman finished with the third-highest rushing yards on the roster a season ago, and ranked second in yards per carry (5.4) among rushers with 30 or more attempts. Of course, he had his first-year moments, such as a costly fumble against Miami, but on a team that lacked consistent playmakers, almost every time Kromah touched the ball, he created action. Now, in year two, he and running backs coach Kam Martin expect Kromah to be a focal point.
"I know Ousmane has all the tools to be very special," Martin told the local Tallahassee media on Monday. "He takes hard coaching, and that's what I love about him. He's a guy that's in the building all day. Ous is a guy that's going to take that next step this year."
One of the keys to Kromah's improvement will be getting a full offseason in the collegiate ranks. As mentioned, Kromah enrolled in the summer of 2025, only getting fall camp to acclimate himself to the college game. Clearly, a full offseason has paid off, as he appeared notably stronger in his interview, even though he was listed at 216 pounds, and told the press he worked on improving his "conditioning" during the offseason.

Taylor Trammell of the Houston Astros hit the ball far and did the things a player might do after a home run.
He ran around the bases, stuck out a "No. 1" sign as he headed toward home plate, touched his heart and looked skyward.
There was just one problem, though. It wasn't a home run. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Myles Straw had made a leaping catch at the wall.
Trammell eventually realized that his big dinger was actually a flyout. The camera followed him into the dugout where he threw what looked like a towel in disgust. The Astros eventually lost on Monday, 3-1.
One poster on X who shared the TV feed of Trammell's goof called it "the most embarrassing moment of his life."

A powerlifter who alleged she was subjected to a racially motivated act that she says led to her disqualification from an event has said she "does not feel safe" when competing.
Belgium's Sonita Muluh was attempting a record 334.5kg squat at the Powerlifting Championships in Lithuania in June when Ernestas Kusinas - a 'spotter' who helps to ensure the validity of an attempted lift - touched the weights with his knee.
Muluh was disqualified and not allowed to reattempt the lift by judges, who ruled on a separate technical infringement.
But police in Lithuania have launched a criminal investigation after Kusinas later wrote on Instagram: "I am racist, and ⁠I did it intentionally."
A police spokesperson told Reuters the investigation will focus on the Instagram message and events at the championship, with a maximum penalty of two years in prison.

Over the past several weeks, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has found herself at the center of some controversy after she spoke out against transgender women competing in women's sports. As a result of those comments, she did not exactly receive a warm welcome from fans on Sunday afternoon.

LeBron James choosing to join the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency is a shock to nearly everybody. Many believed he would end his brilliant career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, or Golden State Warriors. After all, he has history with the Cavs and Heat, and he's close with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green with the Warriors.
James won a ******* le with the Cavaliers in 2016, the third of his four ******* les, as he led Cleveland on a historic rally from being down 3-1 to Curry, Klay Thompson, Green, and the Warriors. The future Hall of Famer will now look to win a fifth ******* le with Philadelphia and lead the franchise to its first since 1983.
Iman Shumpert was a member of that Cavs team and gave his thoughts on James choosing the Sixers on "The Big Podcast" with Shaquille O'Neal:
Every time he leaves somewhere, the story starts. I feel like Bron likes the challenge, but he's still a kid, like, at heart. Like, there's a story there. He goes to Philly. James is certainly one to always leave a legacy wherever he is. He has a huge legacy in the league due to what he did with the Cavaliers, Heat, and Lakers. Demario Davis signing back with the New York Jets this summer no doubt leaves a huge void in the Saints locker room, not only for his play but for his commanding leadership.
Speaking to the media after day 3 of camp, linebacker Pete Werner touched on what he learned from playing alongside Davis and how his own leadership style has developed over his five years in the NFL.
"Second year in the [Brandon] Staley defense, you start to develop a little confidence," said Werner.
The former Ohio State Buckeye mentioned his excitement to be reunited with Kaden Elliss, who returns to New Orleans after three seasons in Atlanta, but also made a point about the departing vet. "We miss a guy like Demario; that's gonna be a guy that's hard to replace."
"I've always been a guy that's, you know, lead by example," said Werner. "But being in this system, you start to develop a voice, and you want to be a guy that the guys can rely on. And I see myself in that position, not only making plays on the field but helping guys off the field and uniting this defense together."

Eight-time PBA Tour champion Jakob **** urff died on Friday, July 31, the Professional Bowlers **** ociation announced. He was 32.
No cause of death was announced. The PBA said **** urff "died unexpectedly."
"Jakob was one of the most unique players in PBA history," PBA Commissioner Tom Clark said in a statement. "Fans marveled at his delivery, as he rode a wave of strikes into becoming a top player in the sport, capable of winning at any time, in any event.
"Jakob was kind, he was respectful, and he was a champion. He will never be forgotten. Our hearts are with all **** ers touched on his one-of-a-kind journey."
Included in **** urff's eight victories was a major win at the 2019 USBC Masters. He also picked up 27 PBA Regional Tour **** les and was a 7-time member of Team USA, per the PBA. He bowled a televised 300 during the 2020 PBA Tour Finals.

PHILADELPHIA — Jalen Carter's record-setting contract pays him like the NFL's best defensive tackle without immediately placing a record burden on the Eagles' salary cap. Carter signed a four-year, $152 million extension that includes $40.8 million guaranteed at signing, according to Spotrac. Another $30 million becomes guaranteed next March, while the practical guarantee reaches approximately $106.8 million over four years.
The extension, which reportedly includes $160 million in incentives, keeps Carter under contract through the 2031 season. His $38 million average annual salary makes him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.
Philadelphia included five option bonuses and four void years in the structure. The option bonuses allow the Eagles to spread charges across multiple salary-cap seasons rather than absorbing the money immediately. The void years are accounting mechanisms and do not place Carter under contract beyond 2031. Carter's cap charge rises to $9.1 million in 2026, costing Philadelphia approximately $2.1 million in additional ****** e. The larger benefit arrives in 2027, when his $9.5 million charge represents approximately $17.6 million in savings compared with his previous fifth-year option figure.
His cap numbers then rise gradually: $15.5 million in 2028, $22.2 million in 2029, $29.4 million in 2030 and $26.2 million in 2031. The structure currently leaves a projected $68.1 million charge in 2032, the first void year. That figure is not likely to remain untouched. Philadelphia could extend Carter again, restructure later portions of the deal or manage the remaining charge through future cap transactions.
The contract reflects Howie Roseman's preference for securing cornerstone players early while pushing larger accounting costs into seasons when the NFL salary cap is expected to be higher.

Cristina Ulbrich lost her "courageous battle with cancer," the organization announced on Thursday.

The Pacers' social media team started leaving breadcrumbs a week ago leading to the announcement of their new pinstriped Statement uniforms. Just before the formal announcement, they pointed back at the trail.
The Pacers posted a photo graphic of the uniforms with tweets clamoring for a return of the pinstripes. The post read: "Please go back and read the first letter of our last 17 tweets," with two eye emojis.
Indeed, the first letter of that tweet and the previous 16 spelled out "PINSTRIPES ARE BACK."
The pattern was never obvious in large part because the letters were posted in reverse order chronologically so that scrolling through the timeline would spell out the words. So the last letter -- K -- was posted first on July 23 in a post about newly acquired Pacers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. highlighting a quote in a podcast from general manager Chad Buchanan. It wasn't until Wednesday that any of the posts even touched on the topic of uniforms as the social media team kept the bit going through tweets about Obi Toppin's charity golf outing, video of Tyrese Haliburton dunking during his Achilles tendon injury recovery, Toppin's serving as the pace car driver at the Brickyard 400 and the appearances of Jarace Walker and Braden Smith at basketball camps.
