The broadcaster shared her experience of having to wear incontinence underwear after leaving her usual supplies behind on a trip to Paris

A Worcestershire MP has recalled how a political rivalry with Dame Esther Rantzen turned into a lasting friendship, following her death at the age of 86.
Nigel Huddleston first met the veteran broadcaster and Childline founder when they stood against each other in Luton South at the 2010 general election.
But what could have been an awkward relationship between political opponents instead became a friendship that continued for many years.
"Esther and I probably should not have got on," the Conservative member for Droitwich and Evesham said, adding: "But, like so many people who met her, I was completely charmed by her and we got on like a house on fire from day one."
Dame Esther had entered the race as an independent following the MPs expenses scandal, turning what Huddleston expected to be a contest between the Conservatives and Labour into what he described as a "media frenzy".

SEOUL, Sept 20 (Reuters) - North Korea launched two missiles off its eastern coast on Sunday, its second set of tests in roughly a week and days after Pyongyang accused the ‌US of driving tensions on the Korean Peninsula through a series of military drills.
Just three hours ‌after launching a short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) toward the East Sea on Sunday afternoon, North Korea fired another short-range ballistic missile, according to South Korea's defence ministry.
If the subsequent launch is confirmed to be a ballistic missile, it will mark two consecutive ballistic missile tests by North Korea within a three-hour window.

CAIRO (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of Iranians rallied Friday in a government-organized show of defiance after months of war, pledging their readiness to take up arms in the biggest such demonstration since the United States and Israel attacked in February.
Iran's government has sought to rally the people and stress national unity, even as the economy worsens under a U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports and new U.S. sanctions. On Friday, it claimed another attack on a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway it has sought to control since the start of the war.
Estimates varied of the number of people volunteering to receive limited military training and defend the country in an effort described as "Janfaday-e Iran," or the "ones who sacrifice their lives for Iran." They marched through downtown Tehran in combat uniform, carrying flags, as onlookers cheered.
For days, state media have encouraged Iranians to join the campaign, saying training with **** ault rifles would begin soon. The volunteers would be an additional layer of security to the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard and the Basij militia, which has played a key role in quashing anti-government protests.
Tehran's Guard chief, Gen. Hassan Hassanzadeh, told the state broadcaster that over 600,000 people had registered to participate, with over 1 million expected to take part in the training. On Friday morning, the broadcaster estimated over 300,000 people were on the streets.

The 2026 US Open has set up an exciting men's singles final at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday. World No. 2 Alexander Zverev will face 23-year-old Ben Shelton for the final Grand Slam ****** le of the season.
However, after his semifinal win over Karen Khachanov, Zverev's on-court antics before the serve became a talking point, with Khachanov making it clear that some of them did not sit well with him.
Zverev's habit of bouncing the ball several times before serving has raised eyebrows during recent tournaments. Broadcasters have even started tracking how many times Zverev bounces the ball before serving, turning the habit into a running joke online.
However, it's not fun for the opponents who wait to receive. After the semifinal loss, Khachanov explained how Zverev's repeated ball bouncing can affect the other player's physical and mental preparation.
"His ball-bouncing before the serve bothers a lot of players," Khachanov said. "He takes a long time. You prepare yourself, then he bounces the ball another 12 times, so you have to prepare and split-step again almost every point."

A week after Nick Saban and Pat McAfee practically did an infomercial for the Protect College Sports Act during College GameDay, one of the bill's co-sponsors, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), was given the chance to make a full-throated defense of the bill and why it needed to be passed by the Senate and House, with Cruz previously saying that if passed, President Donald Trump would sign it into law on a future episode of ESPN's flagship college football show.
Even by the standards of College GameDay, which has been known to put its thumb on the scale when it wanted, this whole affair has been wildly inappropriate. It's one thing for Kirk Herbstreit to chastise football players for opting out of meaningless bowl games; it's another thing for the show to put its full weight behind a Congressional bill without providing ample time to those proponents and opponents, especially when those who oppose the bill do so on the grounds that it will negatively impact the earning ability of the athletes who make the sport work.
However, it helps you understand this all-out blitz when you realize where ESPN's parent company is putting its money.
Joedy McCreary at OpenSecrets recently laid out the fight surrounding the PCSA, spelling out which entities are pushing for it and which are pushing back.
Per McCreary, several major broadcasting and cable companies are putting their money where their mouth is. The National ****** ociation of Broadcasters (NAB) and NCTA – the Internet and Television ****** ociation lobbied for the legislation. Amazon, Paramount Skydance, and Disney (which owns ESPN) listed the college sports measure among the dozens of bills they worked on between April 1 and June 30.

Bayern Munich defended forward Michael Olise after he caused a stir this week due to a post-match interview, in which he only replied with extremely monosyllabic answers.
"Michael Olise is someone who wants to play football, and off the pitch is not his forte. It's a big thing in the media, but on other channels he's being celebrated just as much for his conduct. What's most important to us is that he shows his ability on the pitch," Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said in a news conference on Saturday.
"And the kids and teenagers can identify with it a bit more than perhaps we can," he added.
Following the 5-0 win over Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League on Thursday, Olise was named "Player of the Match" and appeared in an interview with broadcaster DAZN.
"I don't know," Olise said when asked how it felt to score a stunning goal. The reporter then asked how moments like that happen and the France international replied: "I shoot. Then it goes in, or it doesn't."

One of the best play-by-play broadcasters in American professional sports is the incredible Kevin Harlan. No matter what you are watching, the entertainment is raised exponentially if Kevin Harlan is on the call. Wednesday night's season opening game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots was a defensive thriller, coming down to an interception in the end zone to preserve the Seattle victory.
Already, the situation was dramatic enough. The Seahawks survived losing their starting quarterback, and despite being without two starting safeties (three, if you want to count Bud Clark who was lost in the preseason) the Seattle defense was just as suffocating as ever. Seattle successfully defended home turf against the team they crushed in the Super Bowl on the night they were celebrating their championship.
Little did I know the ending was actually more exciting than it was, and I give all the credit to Kevin Harlan who was calling the game for a radio audience. Harlan's final call of Jobe's interception was actually caught on film, and the video of his epic broadcast is one that needs to be seen.
What makes this video extra entertaining is seeing members of the Patriots coaching staff in the next booth over, looking incredibly dejected.
Seattle's defense was sublime on Wednesday. They intercepted Drake Maye on all three final possessions the Patriots had. Two led directly to Seahawk points, and the third ended the rematch. Drake Maye only had one multi-interception game all last season: Super Bowl LX. Now, he begins the 2026 campaign having thrown three in the first game.

CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) — A flight that was scheduled to carry Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from Moldova to Norway earlier this week was delayed when authorities closed Moldova's airspace because of a drone incursion, a government spokesperson said.
Moldovan police said a Russian drone crashed on Tuesday in a sunflower field on the outskirts of a village in the district of Riscani, which caused four fires to break out but no injuries.
Government spokesperson Dumitru Ciorici said on Wednesday that Moldova had closed its airspace Tuesday afternoon to protect aircraft flying over the country at the time. The closure delayed three departures, including the flight carrying Zelenskyy.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre told broadcaster NRK that Zelenskyy's plane "was nearly hit by a drone as it took off from Moldova" on its way to Oslo for King Harald V's funeral. Zelenskyy arrived in Oslo on Tuesday and met Støre to discuss potential support for Ukraine's air defenses before attending the king's funeral on Wednesday.
Moldovan authorities confirmed the drone came down and exploded 160 kilometers (100 miles) from Chisinau International Airport. The airspace restrictions were lifted and Zelenskyy's plane took off later than scheduled.

Much has been discussed about the future of Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn. After leading the team to its first NFC Championship appearance in decades, the Commanders fell flat in 2025, and many believe that if the Commanders don't perform well in 2026, Quinn will be looking for a new job.
During a recent interview on the Rich Eisen Show, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach and current NFL broadcaster Mike Tomlin did not rule out a return to coaching. You see, Tomlin was never fired; he simply stepped down. As a result, the Steelers own the rights to his contract, which runs through 2027 and includes a no-trade clause.
However, a recent Bleacher Report article named five teams that might lure him back to the coaching scene and waive his no-trade clause. One of the teams named was the Commanders. The article reads, in part:
Because of the Commanders' deep playoff run in the 2024 campaign, Quinn likely bought himself extra time, but it's concerning that he parted ways with his offensive coordinator after one year. In doing so, he raises questions about the construction of his coaching staff.
Quinn's job security is also tied to Daniels' development.

Ever since seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady stepped into a role as a broadcaster with Fox while also becoming a part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders franchise, he has faced criticism over potential conflicts of interest and how the limitations placed on him might impact his career as a broadcaster.
Brady, however, doesn't sound too concerned about that.
During a recent interview before the 2026 NFL season, Brady dismissed concerns about any potential conflict of interest or his job as a broadcaster as "clickbait."
Brady has faced criticism for holding a role as a broadcaster – where he is supposed to remain impartial – as well as being a part owner of an NFL team. To help address that, Brady has some special limitations impacting his access to other teams before games, which critics have claimed might impact his ability to perform as a broadcaster.
In a recent feature by Richard Deitsch and Austin Karp at Sports Business Journal on the NFL on Fox, Brady dismissed criticism as "clickbait."

CAIRO (AP) — The new head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council on Sunday said Tehran plans to announce an "exclusion zone" outside the Strait of Hormuz aimed at vessels it believes are attempting to transit the waterway.
Mohsen Rezaei's comments to Iran's state broadcaster came with few details, a day after the U.S. struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to Tehran launching ballistic missiles at U.S. warships. Experts called the launches a dangerous escalation after Iran's previous attacks at sea targeted commercial shipping.
The new zone should be announced in the coming days and weeks and "will begin from the line of the U.S. naval blockade, extend toward the Strait of Hormuz, and from this side continue into the Persian Gulf," Rezaei said. "Any ship that enters this area with the intention of passing through the Strait of Hormuz and is identified will be placed on our sanctions list."
It is not clear where Iran defines the location of the weekslong U.S. blockade, which is aimed at Iranian ports and keeping Tehran from shipping out its oil. The U.S. military has said over 20 warships are supporting the blockade, which as of Sunday had redirected 92 commercial ships and disabled three.
The U.S. has been introducing new measures to increase the economic pain on Iran after negotiations collapsed and no end to the intermittent fighting appears in sight. Meanwhile, Iran continues to attack some ships trying to transit the strait, which has become an important source of leverage for Tehran in the war that began Feb. 28 with U.S. and Israeli strikes.

It's unlikely that talk of Saturday night's explosively controversial final moments during Michigan versus Western Michigan will die down anytime soon. Nearly 24 hours later, however, NBC has finally offered an official statement on the controversial moment.
In the final seconds of Saturday night's tilt between Michigan and Western Michigan, quarterback Bryce Underwood's Hail Mary heave fell incomplete as the Wolverines looked to avoid a devastating upset in their first game of the season. While it looked as if Western Michigan was set to complete the upset, as the clock hit zero before the ball hit a player on the failed try, the referees ended up adding a second to the clock to allow Michigan one last attempt. Underwood ended up connecting with JJ Buchanan on the final Hail Mary try as Michigan walked off their opponents 13-12.
According to a statement and footage from the Big Ten released on Sunday, "Western Michigan's #18 started his jump from an established out-of-bounds position (left foot) and made contact with the ball with one second remaining on the clock". That footage contradicts what the stadium's clock and NBC's broadcast clock stated as the play ended, causing immense confusion amongst college football fans as the dust continues to settle on this controversial moment.
MORE: What did WMU coach Lance Taylor say about clock controversy in Hail Mary loss to Michigan?
Then later on Sunday, NBC released its own statement via broadcaster John Fanta during halftime of Washington vs. Washington State.

Michael Olise was linked with a move away from Bayern Munich during the summer, but the Frenchman stayed after being labelled not for sale by the German champions.
However, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said on German broadcaster Sport1 on Sunday that he can't guarantee Olise will remain at the club beyond next summer.
"Making promises in this business is a tricky matter. Whether we can keep him permanently is something we will discuss again in the summer," Dreesen said on the future of Olise, whose contract expires in 2029.
As for this past summer, Dreesen denied that Bayern received any offers for the attacker, who was primarily linked with Real Madrid and Liverpool.
"That simply wasn't true. That's why I said it publicly. It simply wasn't true. We didn't have any offer on the table. And we've always said we weren't interested. That's exactly our position. Olise is incredibly important for this team. He's a magician on this pitch," he said.

One of the most influential figures in sports media is Stephen A. Smith. He is also one of the most polarizing, building a career by embracing the fact that sports fans either love him or hate him. Especially Dallas Cowboys fans, whom he frequently trolls.
However, that perception extends beyond the viewing audience. Smith has had notable clashes with colleagues throughout his career. Sometimes he has been on the right side of those controversies. Other times, he has not.
One of Smith's most notable feuds has been with former ESPN anchor Cari Champion. Champion worked for the Worldwide Leader in Sports from 2012 to 2020 and now hosts her own show on Amazon Prime. In the years since leaving First Take, Champion has had plenty to say about her former colleague.

LONDON (AP) — Hugh Jackman wants to joins his fellow Hollywood star and friend Ryan Reynolds in owning part of a soccer club in the English leagues.
Jackman has long been a fan of Norwich, his mother's home city in the east of England. The Wolverine star was asked in an interview broadcast on Thursday if he would like to "buy a bit" of the club which is majority owned by Mark Attanasio, the Milwaukee Brewers principal owner.
"I'm very, very interested in talking about it right now," he told British broadcaster TalkSport while promoting his new movie, "The Death of Robin Hood."
"You're the first one to know that. There's a little exclusive," Jackman said when asked if he would "follow suit" with Reynolds, who put Wrexham on the global soccer and culture map after buying the club with Rob Mac in 2021.
Norwich and Wrexham are now rivals in the English second-tier Championship, though Jackman's team has the more illustrious history. Norwich last played in the Premier League four years ago, and had perhaps its finest moment in 1993 eliminating German power Bayern Munich in the old UEFA Cup.

Erin Andrews is opening up about the challenges she's faced on the road to giving her son a sibling.
The sports broadcaster, 48, hopes to expand her family with husband Jarret Stoll, according to a Us Weekly report published Tuesday, September 1. The couple welcomed their son, Mack, via surrogate in July 2023 after a years-long fertility struggle.
Andrews and the former professional hockey player, 44, later turned to surrogacy again in hopes of having a second child. In 2025, however, their surrogate suffered a miscarriage, according to the outlet. Despite the setback, Andrews remains determined to keep trying. Still, she acknowledged that expanding her family at this stage of her life has been more difficult than she expected.
"It's a lot harder at [age] 48 than I ever thought it would be," Andrews said, per the report.

TikTok users are worried about their most beloved celebrities dying, and they're using an audio warning against making "unnecessary journeys" to share these fears.
The trend is experiencing a big boost in virality following the recent high-profile death of Dolly Parton, which was quickly followed by the death of Tim Curry.
But what is the context of the "unnecessary journeys" audio, what does the trend mean, and why is it going viral? Here's what we know.
In 2015, news broadcaster Teresa Mannion reported on Storm Desmond in the west of Ireland. During the report, she stands in the middle of the storm and yells through the rain, "Don't make unnecessary journeys, don't take risks on treacherous roads, and don't swim in the sea!"
The clip went viral after it was edited and posted to YouTube by Gerard Walsh. The edit adds a scene to the end of her report, where a stop sign hits her in the head.

The Indian cricket board's reluctance to seek better price discovery ahead of the upcoming IPL and home bilateral media rights tender is weighing heavily on the industry.

With about six months to go before the final IPL edition of the 2023-27 rights cycle begins, there is growing concern among cricket's biggest stakeholders that the absence of a credible bidder other than JioStar will prevent an accurate ******* sment of the property's value, and, in turn, deny the market the competitive tension that has driven IPL rights upwards for a decade.

That sentiment was echoed by none other than Uday Shankar, the media entrepreneur who serves as vice-chairman of JioStar, at the recent ET World Leaders Forum.

"Ten years ago, you would have multiple and serious media companies (around four) competing for major sports rights. You'd have four or more companies genuinely fighting for properties. Today, increasingly, it feels as if we are the only ones standing. And that's not healthy," Shankar said.

"The fundamental issue is that the cost of the rights has risen dramatically. But the ability to monetise those rights hasn't necessarily risen at the same rate. The value of sports is enormous, but the rights holder, broadcaster and platform all need to participate in a sustainable ecosystem," he added.

The worrying part of this narrative is the absence of a Plan B for Indian cricket. That JioStar will bid healthily for the IPL is a given: its subscription numbers are heavily leveraged against cricket consumption. What is baffling is the BCCI's inability to bring more participants to the table.

Players such as YouTube and Netflix have been engaging aggressively with sport in the West. YouTube's move into rights aggregation and bundling has, in fact, become an industry trend of its own.

YouTube increasingly treats sport not as a series of standalone rights acquisitions but as the anchor of a broader pay-TV and subscription ecosystem. Its seven-year deal for exclusive US distribution of NFL Sunday Ticket — worth a reported $2 billion a season — works both as a value-add for YouTube TV subscribers and as a standalone product sold through YouTube channels.

Average revenue per user in the West bears little resemblance to what the subcontinent generates, which complicates the ******* umption that volume alone wins the argument. Even so, Indian cricket remains the only market in this part of the world worth a player like YouTube testing the waters in.

More recently, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos told The Economic Times that the streaming giant was interested in live sport, including cricket, but had no intention of becoming a "conventional full-season sports broadcaster".

If so, a property like the IPL sits squarely in Netflix's territory. The storytelling potential of an India-first sports property speaks to a billion-plus domestic audience, a vast global diaspora, and to markets where cricket remains one of India's most effective export

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on the Strait of Hormuz in their first military action in a month on Sunday, breaking a lull in fighting during an intermittent war that has lasted more than six months. Iran swiftly vowed to retaliate for what it called a deadly attack.
Forces with the Revolutionary Guard Corps were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the strait, according to Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for the U.S. Central Command. The U.S. military last week completed clearing sea mines from the strait's international shipping routes.
Semiofficial news outlets in Iran reported sounds of explosions near Larak island on the strait. The Guard in a statement carried by Iran's state broadcaster noted "the martyrdom and injury of several of our fighters and compatriots."
Later, Iranian state television showed what it said were ballistic missiles being fired by Iran at U.S. bases in Jordan in response to the American strikes. Jordan's armed forces said they intercepted eight missiles that penetrated the country's airspace early Monday.
A return to open conflict would be dangerous for the region, where Iran has targeted U.S. military bases and infrastructure in Gulf countries since the war began on Feb. 28.

BEIJING, Aug 29 (Reuters) - The threat of a lake formed after a glacier collapse bursting near the China-Nepal border where a devastating flood occurred earlier this week has decreased, Chinese authorities said ‌on Saturday, as its size appears to have shrunk.
Satellite images from Thursday to Saturday morning suggest that ‌water in the lake – straddling the China-Nepal border at the confluence of two rivers – has been slowly flowing through, decreasing the reservoir gradually, state broadcaster CCTV reported citing the Water Resources Ministry.
The ministry said satellite imagery of the surface area of the lake at Purepu Tsangpo river showed it was 99,000 sqm in size on early Saturday morning – around the size of 14 football fields combined – having shrunk by 21,000 sqm compared with images from Thursday.
A glacier collapse on Wednesday sending a powerful torrent of rock, ‌ice, mud and debris through Himalayan mountain river systems swept away a border port complex linking China's Tibet to Nepal, killing hundreds and leaving thousands missing.
Experts and authorities have warned of the extremely high risk of secondary disasters in the valley, especially from the lake that was formed by glacier debris, potentially endangering rescue operations downstream.

The Italian side were reportedly willing to pay around €5 million as a loan fee, with the total package worth more than €40 million.
However, that sort of structure is not an option for Stuttgart, who remain dependent on generating transfer revenue this summer and would therefore prefer to receive a larger fee upfront.
In addition to Roma, a number of Premier League clubs and Inter are said to be monitoring the 24-year-old Germany winger.
