Twin brothers Jordon and Mitchell Ricker have done just about everything together, from playing football at MacArthur to earning their degrees from the same college institutions.
But Thursday night was something new in the Rickers' intertwined history.
The Rickers faced off against each other for the first time as head coaches as Jordon's MacArthur Brahmas faced Mitchell's Burbank Bulldogs in their season opener at Alamo Stadium. The brothers enter their second year as head coaches in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Jordon emerged victorious with MacArthur downing Burbank 32-10 to earn his first career victory as a head coach. The victory was a long time coming for Jordon, who last season had the difficult task of navigating a juggernaut district that included state champion Smithson Valley as a brand new head coach.
"I'm just so proud of our guys," Jordon said. "We talked all offseason about building our culture and getting in the right direction, and our kids really bought in."

John McGinn has revealed that Luke Shaw is one of the toughest opponents he's ever faced.
McGinn named Manchester United's No.23 alongside Riccardo Calafiori when being quizzed by the Stick to Football panel.
The Aston Villa captain said: "Calafiori and Luke Shaw would be my two hardest opponents.
"Luke Shaw because I needed to completely adapt my game with Luke Shaw. Because we're of a similar build. He's one I had to completely try and adapt [to]. Calafiori was much stronger than I thought. I was really impressed with him."

GREENSBORO, N.C. — After a blowout win on Wednesday night, Hub City could not follow up against Greensboro on Thursday. The Grasshoppers (75-48, 34-23) attacked the Spartanburgers (56-67, 22-35) early en route to an 11-4 win.
Greensboro turned to lefty Reinold Navarro on the mound against Hub City's Jormy Nivar, making his High-A debut. Both starters faced the minimum in the first before finding trouble in the second.
Maxton Martin reached to kick off the frame on a dropped third strike. Quincy Scott immediately capitalized with a two-run homer the opposite way. Navarro worked around two walks later in the inning to limit the damage to two. The Grasshoppers immediately tied the game again on back-to-back home runs from Jared Jones and Tony Blanco Jr. to lead off the bottom of the second. Blanco was batting out of order when he slugged the second home run, but it came without appeal from the Spartanburgers. Jhonny Severino then struck out, a spot later than **** igned.
After a scoreless top of the third, Greensboro took its first lead. A single and hit batter started the inning. After two outs from Nivar (L, 0-1), Jones walked to load the bases. Severino came to the plate in the correct order and lined in two runs with a single to center field. Blanco followed suit with an RBI single to make it 5-2 Grasshoppers. Anthony Susac relieved Nivar and provided the final out of the third.
Hub City forced Greensboro to its 'pen with the bases full and one out in the fourth. Cesar Aquino entered and rolled a fielder's choice off the bat of Evan Morrison to bring in a run. Gleider Figuereo added another tally with an RBI single to make it 5-4.

India have won seven of the nine Women's Asia Cup editions played so far, across ODI and T20I formats, making them the most successful team in the history of the tournament.

Given the historic dominance of the Indian team in the tournament, former India cricketer and ex-women's team coach WV Raman believes anything less than a **** le in the upcoming 2026 Women's Asia Cup would be a "major disappointment" for Harmanpreet Kaur's team.

"Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be tough competition for India, and let's not also discount Thailand, because they've shown a lot of enthusiasm, they've shown they've got some real good talent there, and you cannot take them lightly, too. As far as the Indian team is concerned, I think anything less than a victory will be seen as a major disappointment," Raman said in an exclusive interview with TimesofIndia.com, organised by Sony Sports Network.

India lost the 2024 Women's Asia Cup final to Chamari Athapaththu's Sri Lanka by eight wickets in Dambulla, and Raman said "India can regain the Asia Cup" in Dubai.

However, the road ahead is not as smooth for India as it seems. India have been missing two of their pace-bowling all-rounders, Amanjot Kaur and Kashvee Gautam, for over five months, and just before the Asia Cup they faced another setback as Jemimah Rodrigues was also ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.
Pratika Rawal has received her maiden India T20I call-up as Jemimah was ruled out of the tournament, and is expected to walk straight into the playing XI when India face Thailand on Sunday. However, the bigger question is where the right-handed batter fits into India's batting order.

"Pratika Rawal has done extremely well in Test cricket. She's done well in ODIs, but in T20s, we haven't seen much of her so far. And also the other thing that they need to work out is her slot in the batting order. So where does she bat is something they've got to try and work out," former women's team coach Raman said.

Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana will most likely not be separated as an opening pair, and Bharti Fulmali and Richa Ghosh could play the role of lower-order enforcers. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur bats at four when Jemimah plays at three in T20Is; however, Raman argued that Kaur should instead bat at three in the Asia Cup.
"I doubt if they will have Pratika Rawal at number three. I would rather imagine that Harmanpreet Kaur herself might bat at number three because she needs to spend a lot of time there at the crease, have more overs at her disposal to try and pace the innings," WV Raman said in an interview with TimesofIndia.com, adding, "Will India play Pratika at number four is something that will be a big question. As I see it, they need to obviously find ways and methods to use the 20 overs allotted to them in the most productive manner possible. So it's up to them to try and see."

It was that time of year again when the early rounds of the English League Cup were being played in the midst of a hectic Premier League schedule. Sunderland had played their first four games of the season following promotion and, despite an exciting victory over Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day, had failed to win since, picking up just one point from their next three games.
Included in that run was a dismal 3-0 defeat away to Wigan Athletic, a result that shocked supporters given the inept nature of the performance. A home defeat to Liverpool compounded the misery before Roy Keane's side travelled to London to face Luton Town in the League Cup.
Keane made just four changes to the team that had faced Liverpool and, in hindsight, the decision did little to ease the growing frustrations surrounding the side. Sunderland were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by the Championship outfit, who took great delight in their victory as chants of "Premiership, you're having a laugh" rang around Kenilworth Road.
Greg Halford's dismissal certainly didn't help Sunderland's cause, but this was now four consecutive defeats and, more concerningly, the manner of those defeats was beginning to cause genuine concern among the fanbase.
On the very same evening, Leicester City and Nottingham Forest were also meeting in the League Cup, with Sunderland loanee Clive Clarke lining out for Leicester.

Tony Romo is facing three charges after his July arrest in Milwaukee County.
Romo, who was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated on July 23, faces three charges stemming from that arrest, online court records show: unsafe passing on the right, possessing open intoxicants and operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI). All three charges were filed on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS NFL **** yst was stopped going southbound on I-43 and "performed poorly on SFSTs (standard field sobriety tests)." On July 28, new details emerged as body cam footage surfaced.
The arresting officer indicated that Romo was stopped for "unsafe passing on the right," and "cutting across the gore," the former of which is reflected in the citation. An open container was found in the passenger seat of Romo's vehicle during the stop.
Romo also refused to take a breathalyzer test following the arrest.

The Mets entered Thursday night's game with an eye on winning the series. They had Sean Manaea getting the start to try and accomplish that goal. They faced a major obstacle though–not only were they facing the best team in baseball, they were facing the best team in baseball's Cy Young frontrunner ace in Jacob Misiorowski.
The game had barely even started and it immediately went sideways for Manaea and the Mets. The first two batters reached on a single and a walk, then a one-out Andrew Vaughn single drove in the first run of the game. Gary Sánchez hit into a force-out for the second out that also drove in the second run of the game. Manaea was able to get out of it after that but the Mets were already in an early hole.
Manaea dug the hole deeper in the second inning. He got two outs to start the inning and looked like he might be settling down. But a David Hamilton single was followed by a Jackson Chourio home run to put the Mets behind by four runs. And a comeback would be difficult with Misiorowski on the mound.
The game was quiet until the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth, Chourio started with a single then stole second base to put another runner in scoring position for the Brewers. Luis Lara moved Chourio to third on another single, and William Contreras grounded out but still drove in Chourio for the Brewers' fifth run of the game.
It took until the bottom of the fifth for the Mets to even log a hit against Misiorowski, but once they did it was off to the races. Luis Robert Jr. started the inning with a walk, then he was driven in as the Mets' first run of the game on the Mets' first hit of the game, a Jared Young double. After two outs, Christopher Morel hit a single that brought Jared Young in to score (though there was a lengthy review, it was eventually upheld). Francisco Alvarez grounded out to end the inning, but the Mets cut the deficit to three runs.

The Mets recorded just three hits in an 8-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night.
-- Sean Manaea didn't have it against the Brewers' bats, allowing four runs through the first two innings and six overall on the night over 5.2 IP. It's his first start less than six innings since July 18 and the first time he's allowed six earned runs since April 29.
Jackson Chourio had his number all night long, singling on the first pitch of the game and scoring in a two-run first inning. Then in the second inning, a poor throw to first base with two outs extended the inning for Chourio to go deep and make it 4-0.
Manaea settled down for scoreless third and fourth innings, but Chourio singled to lead off the fifth and eventually came around to score on a groundout. He let up another lead off hit in the sixth as Joey Ortiz tripled off the wall in center, and then Cooper Pratt drove him in on a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 6-2. The lefty's night ended after allowing a double, having thrown 95 pitches.
-- Meanwhile, Jacob Misiorowski retired the first seven Mets he faced (three strikeouts) before walking Christopher Morel with one away in the third inning. The muddy mound began to cause the young star to slip a bit, as manager Pat Murphy came out to tell the umpires it's becoming an issue. The righty slipped again on a fastball to Francisco Alvarez, but got the inning-ending double play.

Everything was on the line at the draw in Monaco. The four home and four away opponents for the 2026–27 season have now been determined. UEFA will announce the exact dates of the matches by Saturday. Today, Thursday, former star strikers Thierry Henry and David Villa began by drawing the opponents for all 36 participating teams.
BVB already faced three of its eight opponents last year: At SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, BVB will once again take on Inter Milan and Villarreal CF—and these two matchups cannot be repeated next year—and will also face FK Bodø/Glimt from Norway again, though this time on the road. The other home opponents are Real Betis from Seville and AEK Athens—both of which will be first-time opponents! Away from home, Borussia will face Bodø/Glimt, as well as ******* nal, Aston Villa, and Sabah FK in Azerbaijan.
Inter MilanThe 21-time Italian champions have reached the Champions League final twice in the past four seasons. Inter has won the trophy three times (most recently in 2010), but suffered a surprising defeat last season in the Round of 16 against Bodø/Glimt—a team that shocked more than just BVB. BVB lost the head-to-head match against Inter 0–2. There will be a reunion with Manuel Akanji and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Real BetisReal Betis Balompié, known as Real Betis for short or simply Betis—that's the name of Spain's 1935 champion and three-time cup winner. Their greatest international achievement was reaching the final of the 2025 UEFA Conference League. Former Borussia player Marc Bartra (pictured) played a key role in helping the team finish fifth in La Liga last season, thereby qualifying for the Champions League for the second time in the club's history. BVB has not yet faced Betis in a head-to-head match.
FC VillarrealThe second Spanish opponent—which finished third last year—comes from Pot 3, even though it made a splash internationally by winning the 2021 UEFA Europa League and reaching the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League the following year. In last season's league campaign, however, "the Yellow Submarine" finished in 35th place with just one point earned. At SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, BVB won 4-0.

French former football player Thierry Henry shows the paper slip of Real Madrid CF (ESP) during the draw ceremony for the league phase of the 2026-2027 UEFA Champions League football tournament at the Grimaldi Forum in the Principality of Monaco on August 27, 2026. (Photo by Valery HACHE / AFP via Getty Images)
Real Madrid learned their opponents for the 2026/27 Champions League league phase on Thursday, as UEFA held this season's draw in Geneva. Under the competition's Swiss-style format, now in its third year, Real Madrid will play eight league-phase matches, four at home and four away, against sides drawn from four seeding pots rather than the old group of four.
This year's draw pairs Real Madrid with Inter Milan and ******* nal from Pot One, PSV Eindhoven and Roma from Pot Two, Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk from Pot Three, and LASK and AEK Athens from Pot Four. It is a mix of old rivals and near strangers, given that ******* nal beat Real Madrid out of the quarter-finals only two years ago, Roma once knocked them out under coach José Mourinho's old adversaries, and LASK have never faced them at all.
Real Madrid go into the campaign looking to bounce back from a run of three quarter-final exits in four seasons, sandwiched around their 15th European Cup in 2023/24. The league phase runs from September through January, with matchday dates and kick-off times still to be confirmed by UEFA, before the knockout rounds begin in February and build toward the final at Madrid's own Estadio Metropolitano next June.
Pot one of the draw brings the heaviest company, Inter Milan at home and ******* nal away. Real Madrid's record against Inter is one of the most one-sided in the competition, eight wins from nine home meetings and four straight victories in their recent run. ******* nal is a different proposition. The two clubs have met just twice, back in 2005/06, before colliding again in the 2024-25 quarter-finals, when ******* nal won 5-1 on aggregate and hold the head-to-head edge from all three meetings.

Sometimes the internet reaches more than a decade into the past and pulls out a perfect reaction meme for the present.
That's what happened with an old red carpet clip of actress Zendaya smiling and laughing at the 2011 premiere of Justin Bieber's concert documentary film Never Say Never, which suddenly resurfaced in 2026 as a widely used reaction GIF and video.
Known as the "Zendaya Laughing" meme, the clip is typically used to represent carefree happiness, awkwardly laughing something off or finding humor in a stressful situation. The footage has also inspired green-screen edits, caption memes and more elaborate variations across X / Twitter and other sites.
So, where did the clip originally come from, and why did it suddenly become a meme 15 years later? Here's what you need to know.
The footage comes from the February 8th, 2011, premiere of the movie Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Zendaya, who was still early in her career at the time, was filmed posing for photographers on the red carpet while smiling and laughing.

There's a ghost following Cooper Hoffman. Luckily for me, he brings it up first.
We're only around 20 minutes into breakfast at the West Village staple Morandi the first time Hoffman mentions his late father, the beloved actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. The restaurant has long been one of his family's favorite haunts, and the booth three spots over is where Hoffman recently celebrated his younger sister's high school graduation and acceptance to either Michigan State or the University of Michigan (Hoffman, laughing and shamefaced, keeps forgetting which). When the conversation turns to the New York Knicks' unbelievable playoff run, a decades-in-the-making miracle that Hoffman had to watch "drunk in bed" while in London attending a wedding, he invokes the memory of a man he lost just a month before his 11th birthday.

Michelle Obama's Martha's Vineyard outfit at the Martha's Vineyard Author Series was a little more dressed up than her usual Island style—and she was the first to admit it.
The former First Lady stepped out in a crisp blue-and-white striped sundress and heeled sandals Sunday as she drew packed crowds to the Martha's Vineyard Performing Arts Center for two conversations about her new book, The Look.
The special event, which capped off a summer-long author series, featured Obama talking about everything from fashion and her days in the White House to how she really prefers to dress on the Island.
"This is dressed up [and] we don't do this here. I don't even wear shoes," she said, via The Vineyard Gazette. "This place is magic to our family. I mean, it really is. It's one of the few places where we can go and just be, and that's thanks to everybody here who loves us but gives us ****** e — maybe excited, but not too crazy."
But the casual look didn't fly when she was in the White House. Obama recounted the intense scrutiny she faced over her fashion choices and appearance, often feeling that the media focused more on what she was wearing than what she was saying.

Alluvial Capital Management's Q2 2026 investor letter for the Alluvial Fund reported a 4.9% return, with a year-to-date increase to 8.0%. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. While these results are acceptable, they are overshadowed by the impressive performance of small-cap and micro-cap stocks, particularly in AI and semiconductor sectors. The portfolio remains stable and focused on dependable cash flow producers, although it sometimes lags in momentum-driven markets. July showed improvement for Alluvial Fund as benchmarks declined. The author emphasizes the importance of a dependable investment strategy focused on solid cash flow producers, while expressing confidence that the portfolio's intrinsic value discount will lessen over time. The letter aims to communicate the fund's approach and highlights potential opportunities in overlooked sectors, urging a long-term investment perspective amidst current market trends. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Alluvial Fund highlighted Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) as a newly added position. Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) is a global provider of infrastructure solutions for communications, data center, and entertainment networks. On August 26, 2026, Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) closed at $11.05 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $2.55 billion. Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) posted a one-month return of -5.64%, while its shares lost 30.76% over the past 52 weeks.
Alluvial Fund stated the following regarding Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Vistance Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISN), a new holding for Alluvial Fund, is a company in the midst of dismantling itself. Over the past twelve months, Vistance has sold its two largest businesses. Vistance is now down to just one remaining operating ****** et, Aurora Networks, which manufactures equipment for cable networks like Comcast and Charter. It's not a wonderful business—results are lumpy and customer concentration is high—but it is not going away. Faced with relentless competition from fiber and wireless internet alternatives, cable operators have no choice but to continue to invest in speed and reliability upgrades. On the heels of this radical reduction in scale, I don't think Vistance stays independent. Management has gone from running an enterprise doing almost $7 billion in annual sales to one doing just $1 billion. Once it pays out the proceeds from its latest business sale, Vistance will have a market capitalization below $1 billion. As a newly-minted micro-cap company, it might as well be invisible. Being a listed, SEC-reporting micro-cap comes with all the headaches and annoyances of being public, but without most of the benefits. Given the choice between fading into irrelevance as a micro-cap network equipment maker and achieving a neat resolution (and a nice liquidity event for management,

Meghan Markle has reportedly faced backlash over the timing of her latest "As Ever" announcement, which arrived just hours after Dolly Parton's passing. The ***** ss of Sussex, 45, promoted a new Spiced Apple ***** er for her lifestyle brand on Tuesday, August 25.
The announcement came less than five hours after Parton's family shared news of the country music icon's passing at 80, according to Radar Online. Parton's nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced her passing in a video shared across the singer's social media accounts shortly before 11 a.m. PST. Soon after, celebrities, musicians, and fans flooded social media with emotional tributes to the beloved star.
Meanwhile, Markle continued promoting Meghan Markle "As Ever" products. Just before 3 p.m. PST, she shared an Instagram post advertising the new Spiced Apple ***** er. The timing quickly caught attention online. Some critics questioned whether the announcement had been scheduled in advance and wondered why the brand did not postpone it following Parton's death.
On Reddit, several users criticized the decision. One commenter argued that "no one cares about anything else" following Parton's passing. Another user pointed to the connection between apple ***** er and the American South, saying the timing made the announcement appear particularly insensitive given Parton's cultural significance.
However, there is no indication in the supplied report that Markle personally timed the announcement to coincide with the news of Parton's passing. A pre-scheduled social media post could explain why the promotion appeared when it did. Still, the timing created an awkward moment for Markle "As Ever", especially as tributes to Parton dominated the online conversation.

Meghan Markle is reportedly preparing for a very different chapter as she returns to the U.K. She will be traveling alongside Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. According to reports, the family is relocating to Britain for an extended stay while maintaining their home in Montecito, California. The move marks Meghan's return to the country she left six years ago. However, insiders say she is now in a much stronger position, both personally and professionally.
Meghan Markle is expected to return to Britain this month, but not as a working royal. According to PEOPLE, she and Prince Harry will continue as private, non-working members of the royal family. King Charles will maintain this arrangement, which was established after the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Sources close to the ****** ss of Sussex told the outlet that this return differs significantly from her previous experience in Britain. One ally said Meghan's support system is "stronger now than it ever was," adding that she now has her own team, career, and greater control over her personal and professional life. Another insider noted that Meghan has been open about the struggles she faced during her first years in the U.K. However, they emphasized that this history is not destined to repeat itself.
Despite the renewed confidence surrounding her move, concerns remain about the intense media attention awaiting her. A source close to Meghan admitted they are worried about the level of scrutiny she could face upon returning to Britain. Public support for both her and Prince Harry remains mixed across the country.
Professionally, Meghan also returns with several opportunities that did not exist during her royal years. PEOPLE reports that she is in discussions for a possible role in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series "The Gentlemen." While no deal has been finalized, the project could mark her first major acting role since leaving "Suits."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle landed in the UK to reports of new neighbors branding them a "disgrace". The news comes as the Sussexes made their alleged return to Britain on Wednesday after six years away. However, the couple will continue as private citizens and will not be resuming official duties as working royals.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's move to the UK is already stirring up reactions among some of their potential new neighbours. According to several reports, the Duke and ***** ss of Sussex will put down roots in the beautiful Cotswolds. However, not everyone in the charming countryside community seems delighted at the idea of the royal pair moving in next door.
Several locals reportedly voiced their annoyance to the Daily Expresso after a reporter headed to the area to sound out reactions to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's UK return. Discussing it on the podcast on Wednesday, August 26, host JJ Anisiobi revealed that some residents were "already furious."
He said, "A woman in a coffee shop, who lives in the local area, says: 'They should be banned. They are a disgrace. I think Meghan is an awful, dreadful woman. It can't be easy being in the royal family- they've got their faults as well, but they're two-faced in screaming about privacy.'"
Anisiobi shared that another local felt that the Duke had damaged his relationships beyond repair. A different resident voiced a separate worry about how the Sussexes' presence might affect the area's well-known tranquillity.

Tim Curry's interesting connection to the late Princess Diana has re-emerged after his death. The British actor tragically passed away on August 25, aged 80. Curry was best known for portraying Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The legendary British actor once reportedly confessed that Diana had revealed to him that she was a fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Tim Curry had reportedly previously admitted that the late Princess Diana was a fan of his work. During a past interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Curry shared how he met Diana and her then-husband, Prince Charles, after a show he'd performed in at the Royal National Theatre. As per the late actor, Charles didn't know much about his career, for he asked if he had been on television. However, the late Princess of Wales had no trouble recognizing Curry.
The Charlie's Angels star confessed he was surprised that Diana was familiar with his work. He asked her: "I don't suppose you saw it." The late Princess showed off her wit and quick sense of humor, stating: "Of course I did. It quite completed my education." The resurfaced story also prompted reactions from fans, with one commenter joking that the anecdote "should've made an appearance in The Crown." Another praised Diana as "a real one."
Interestingly, this isn't the first time the Annie star dished about his encounter with Princess Diana. He previously revealed to Fresh Air radio that Diana had requested to meet him after he performed in a production of Love For Love in Vienna. Notably, Charles and Diana were guests of honor at the production. Curry lavished praise on the late Princess, stating: "She was a very funny girl, and a very beautiful one. And sort of the – a very wicked smile came with that sentence. She was great fun."

The preseason finale for the Las Vegas Raiders and San Francisco 49ers is here, and both teams have made headlines for drastically different things.
The Raiders secured the No. 1 overall pick and drafted quarterback Fernando Mendoza. In limited action, the rookie has at times looked the part, and also has shown there's still a ways to go. That much is evident and has led the Raiders to decide they'll give the QB1 job to Kirk Cousins until Mendoza is ready to go.
When Mendoza is ready to go, however, is anyone's guess. The Raiders are determined to slow-play it with their passer of the future, leading to questions of when the passer will make his Sunday debut this season.
The 49ers have eyes on a Lombardi Trophy once again, but they've had to navigate some off-the-field distractions throughout training camp, an inauspicious start to their season. First, it was Kyle Shanahan's car accident and the questions that persisted. In the month that followed, principal owner Jed York was arrested.
In between, the 49ers lost wide receiver Ricky Pearsall to a knee injury, Mike Evans dealt with ****** ps and bruises and substation conspiracy theories resurfaced.

The Bundesliga may not have started yet, but it is already time to think about the Champions League. The last of the second legs for the last round of UCL qualification end on Wednesday, August 26, meaning that we will know all the Champions League participants by that point in time.
The draw starts the day after, at 18:00 CET on Thursday, August 27th, which will determine the fixtures of each of the 36 teams in the Champions League. Each of these teams are split into various pots based on their European performances. For example, Aston Villa were placed in Pot 4 when they qualified for the UCL in the 2024/25 season, but following their European exploits that campaign, as well as their Europa League win in the 2025/26 season, they managed to make Pot 2 this time around.
Pot 1 is reserved for the highest ranked teams in the competition, and Pot 4 for lowest ranked teams. Not all the pot placements are fixed because not all the teams are set yet. What we do know is that each team will be drawn against 2 opponent from each of the 4 pots. Of course, as usual, no teams from the same country can be drawn to face each other in the league phase.
Bayern Munich will learn their Champions League fate on Thursday, too. They have faced elite clubs like Paris Saint-Germain (twice), Barcelona, and ****** nal in the Champions League first stage over the past two years.
To break down the upcoming draw, we are looking at the potential matchups from every angle:

The winning team receives $1 million.
Bencic and Cobolli knocked Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz out of the tournament Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
Then they dropped a set for the first time in the tournament, but began to dominate midway through the second set, winning the final 11 points to force a match tiebreaker.

Orbis Investment Management, an investment management company, released its Q2 2026 investor letter for "Orbis Global Equity Strategy". The letter can be downloaded here. In the first half of 2026, the Global Equity Strategy returned 19.9%, surpassing the MSCI All Country World Index by 7.8%. The market faced narrow breadth in the quarter. The strategy focuses on AI investments categorized into four groups: "Core" (direct exposure), "Enablers" (supporting businesses), "AI Powered" (companies enhanced by AI), and "Overlooked" (misjudged resilient companies). The firm emphasizes maintaining strong but flexible convictions in a fluctuating market, prioritizing disciplined, evidence-based investment over emotional decision-making. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Orbis Global Equity Strategy highlighted Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN). Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) is a specialty insurance services company that provides distribution, underwriting, product development, administration, and risk management services. On August 24, 2026, Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) closed at $44.34 per share. The one-month return of Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) was -3.63%, and its shares lost 23.17% over the past 52 weeks. Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) has a market capitalization of $17.29 billion.
Orbis Global Equity Strategy stated the following regarding Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"The biggest winners have been concentrated in AI. But not all AI exposure is equal. We frame ours in four groups. The first is the "Core", the second is "Enablers", the third is AI "Powered" and the fourth is the "Overlooked": resilient businesses the market has mispriced as AI casualties. The first three are widely understood. The fourth is where we believe the market is most wrong, and where we are hunting.
Take insurance brokerage. Brown & Brown and Ryan Specialty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RYAN) are brokers: they sit between companies and insurers, matching clients to the right coverage and placing it for a fee, without carrying the risk themselves. Both are priced as AI casualties. Two fears weigh on the stocks: a softening pricing cycle and AI disintermediation. The pricing cycle is already in the price. On AI, we disagree. Ryan Specialty makes the case from the other end of the market: a leading specialist in excess and surplus, the part of insurance built for complex, hard-to-place, and emerging risk. That market is structurally expanding, and we view Ryan as its most capable navigator. The pattern holds across the Overlooked. We are not buying businesses AI leaves alone. We are buying businesses that put AI to work. Scaled brokers with proprietary data are sharpened by it, not replaced."

In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Orbis Global Equity Strategy highlighted Brown & Brown, Inc. (NYSE:BRO). Brown & Brown, Inc. (NYSE:BRO) is a leading insurance brokerage firm operating through Retail and Specialty Distribution segments. On August 24, 2026, Brown & Brown, Inc. (NYSE:BRO) closed at $74.62 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $24.97 billion. Brown & Brown, Inc. (NYSE:BRO) posted a one‑month return of 1.32%, while its shares lost 22.31% over the past 52 weeks.
Orbis Global Equity Strategy stated the following regarding Brown & Brown, Inc. (NYSE:BRO) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"The biggest winners have been concentrated in AI. But not all AI exposure is equal. We frame ours in four groups. The first is the "Core": direct exposure through companies like Samsung Electronics, Taiwan Semiconductor, and SK Square. The second is "Enablers": the businesses providing the power, materials, and real estate that hyperscalers need to operate. The third is AI "Powered": companies where AI accelerates an already compelling model, like Alphabet. The fourth is the "Overlooked": resilient businesses the market has mispriced as AI casualties. The first three are widely understood. The fourth is where we believe the market is most wrong, and where we are hunting.

AI may automate commodity cover like personal auto, but that is under 5% of Brown & Brown's book. The rest is commercial and specialty insurance, where the broker exercises judgement and answers for a denied claim. It is a people business, and Brown & Brown has spent more than eighty years serving mid sized companies that lack the in-house expertise in insurance."

Since his DUI arrest in March, golf legend Tiger Woods has largely remained out of the public spotlight. He was involved in a rollover crash in South Florida while allegedly driving under the influence, with opioid tablets in his pocket after the crash.
Woods went to rehab in Switzerland following his arrest, before returning in May.
The 50-year-old Woods has rarely been seen since returning to the United States, but this week he made an appearance in a pre-recorded video for former pro golfer Notah Begay during the Payne Stewart Award ceremony.
Once the video surfaced online thanks to the Golf Channel, some fans expressed concern about his appearance, while others were happy to see the icon back in the spotlight. One user wrote, "Tiger looks a shell of his former self sadly," while another, "He looks normal. Off the steroids and painkillers hopefully."
