Arsenal are preparing to launch negotiations over an extended deal for first-choice goalkeeper David Raya despite the Spaniard recently admitting he would like to play in his homeland one day. Meanwhile, neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid are expected to make an imminent move for the 31-year-old shot-stopper in upcoming transfer windows.
According to Football Insider, the north London hierarchy want to tie their Spanish custodian down beyond his current 2028 expiration date to fend off any future interest from La Liga. Speculation linking him with Spain's two biggest clubs emerged after he told Spanish media last week that he hopes to play in his native top flight eventually. However, the goalkeeper insisted in the same interview that he remains content at the Emirates Stadium.
Having silenced initial sceptics following his move from Brentford to establish himself as the Premier League's standout goalkeeper in recent seasons, Raya registered his fifth clean sheet in eight top-flight outings against Everton last weekend before narrowly losing out on Monday's Yashin Trophy to international team-mate Unai Simon.
Explaining why a switch to Spain is unlikely soon on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O'Rourke said: "If he were to leave ******* nal, there's no immediate opening for one of the big boys in Spain right now as well. Barcelona have got Joan Garcia, and it looks like Courtois is going to sign a new contract at Real Madrid as well, so I don't see any opening for David Raya right now.

Henderson's introduction to Chelsea supporters was delayed by an arm injury he picked up with England at the FIFA World Cup in the summer. Alexander Isak scored a winner for Liverpool on Saturday, finding the net on his return to beat Brentford. It was the kind of moment that Isak was signed for - to be the decisive goalscorer in a difficult game.
No matter what, then, this was a good performance from Isak. He did his job, got the three points for Liverpool, and it's difficult to have complaints. 'Difficult' but not impossible.
This was not a brilliant display from the Swede, who struggled badly to get into the game before Brentford were reduced to 10 men. And that creates a very difficult problem for Andoni Iraola to solve.
Brentford's red card came in the rarely-seen 8th-minute of first-half stoppage time, so this was truly a game of two halves. Incredibly, Liverpool actually had the same share of the ball in each half, though - 60 per cent of it.

Andoni Iraola has admitted Liverpool will be without Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong "for some time" after both were forced off with hamstring injuries in Saturday's 2-1 win at Brentford.
Vice-captain Szoboszlai, who had missed Liverpool's previous two matches with the same problem, was replaced after 32 minutes at the Gtech Community Stadium. Frimpong came on at half-time but lasted just six minutes before limping off.
Both players will undergo scans to determine the extent of the damage.
Iraola explained that a tight turnaround from Wednesday'sChampions League trip to LASK in Austria had left him with difficult selection calls.
"We had a very delicate situation coming back from playing Champions League away (against LASK in Austria) on Wednesday, arriving back late at night and probably not a proper chance of recovery. Hogan, 34, left MK Dons at the end of last season after joining them on a free transfer from Birmingham City in October 2024.

Tottenham have James Maddison back. That is the headline, and for a side still trying to find rhythm and continuity early in the season, it matters.
Roberto De Zerbi confirmed the England midfielder is available again ahead of Everton's visit to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday. Maddison has returned to training after recovering from the shoulder fracture he suffered on the opening weekend against Brentford. Whether he starts is another matter.
De Zerbi was clear enough when asked about his availability. "Maddison, yes (he will be back)," Spurs boss De Zerbi said. Tottenham have their first Premier League point of the season, but the bigger issue is obvious. Three matches in, no wins, no goals and too many key attackers still working their way back.
The 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest stopped the immediate bleeding after defeats to Brentford and Newcastle, yet Roberto De Zerbi still has a squad short on cutting edge. Savio and Destiny Udogie both continued their managed returns at the City Ground and both were taken off around the hour mark. There is no fresh injury concern there, which matters because Spurs do not need another problem.

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has eased concerns over Jayden Meghoma after the defender was forced off during his side's win over Cardiff.
The Brentford loanee impressed on his Pompey debut before being replaced after 65 minutes.
But Mousinho confirmed the 20-year-old was suffering from cramp.
"Jayden was excellent," Mousinho told Portsmouth News. "He showed some really good glimpses in the first half of how he can drive away from players and what he gives you in the final third.

Keith Andrews was not shy in making changes at the break and it almost secured Brentford three points.
Record signing Ibrahim Sangare has had rave reviews for his performances in their first two Premier League games of the season since joining from Lens but he picked up a booking in the first half and was not at his best.
Anthony was one of those half-time substitutes and the former Burnley winger wasted an early chance but showed more attacking threat.
Then Yehor Yarmolyuk played a role in the build-up to the opener before Damsgaard put in the ball which eventually led to Vitaly Janelt's great finish.
Brentford remain unbeaten and if Andrews continues to show bold management then the Bees could be well placed to push on from their ninth-placed finish last season.

This week, the club and Trust installed a bench in Gunnersbury Park, the sixth to be added in the local area to encourage the community to pause, connect and talk.
Last season, some of our players took to the benches to share their own experiences of mental health, including Fábio Carvalho and former Bees player Jordan Henderson. The installation of benches was inspired by Brentford's longstanding commitment to supporting mental wellbeing and the work of consultant psychologist Michael Caulfield, whose bench at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre (RRPC) provides a safe, confidential ***** e for players, coaches and staff to speak.
On Saturday, ahead of our game against Sunderland, from 12.30pm the RRPC bench will be located outside Entrance B at Gtech Community Stadium so fans can make a personal commitment linked to mental wellbeing and supporting others.
Trained representatives from Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and the Samaritans will be on hand to speak with supporters and provide information about health and wellbeing programmes available in the local community.
