MIAMI — Even when Javier ****** ad doesn't possess his best command, the right-hander finds a way to put the Chicago Cubs in position to win.
Assad worked around a season-high five walks as he grinded through 4 2/3 innings Saturday against the Miami Marlins, ultimately limiting enough damage in the Cubs' 6-5 win at loanDepot Park. Ryan Zeferjahn threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his first save as a Cub.
The victory ****** ures the Cubs will maintain their hold of the National League's first wild-card spot over the Philadelphia Phillies as they go for the sweep Sunday with right-hander Clay Holmes on the mound.
"I try to stay calm and under control and work my game, and I've got the best defense behind me, and I let them work, and it came up huge," Zeferjahn said. "The biggest thing for me, honestly, is not chasing strikeouts. Like I said, I've got the best defense, and when you get a one-pitch out to start the ninth inning, so much weight's off your shoulders right there. So just focusing on that and then stay in the attack mode after that."
Making his first big-league start in a month, ****** ad gave up three hits and three runs, one of which scored when reliever Caleb Thielbar immediately surrendered a two-run home run to Griffin Conine, the first batter he faced.

Billionaire technology investor Peter Thiel's hedge fund, Thiel Macro LLC, disclosed 372,755 shares of Vistra Corp. (NYSE:VST) at the end of Q2 2026, worth about $59.1 million.
The position is interesting because Vistra sits directly in the argument over whether electricity, rather than GPUs, becomes the scarce ******* et in the next leg of the AI buildout. Data centers need large blocks of reliable power, and Vistra owns a broad generation fleet with exposure to fast-growing power markets. Wolfe Research has argued that the market may be underestimating Vistra's ability to convert data-center demand into sustained EBITDA and free-cash-flow growth.
Image by Markus Distelrath from Pixabay
There is also a valuation wrinkle though. Recent Insider Monkey ******* ysis put Vistra at roughly 15.8 times forward earnings, below Constellation Energy at about 22.9 times. Vistra Corp. (NYSE:VST) does not have Constellation's same nuclear-heavy contracted profile, but that discount gives the stock room to rerate if data-center contracts make more of its future cash flows visible.
The caution is that Thiel Macro's Q2 filing says nothing about why the fund owns Vistra, or exactly when during the quarter it accumulated the position. The filing establishes the position at quarter end, not a same-day purchase and not Peter Thiel's reasoning for holding it. It would be sloppy to call it an AI bet on Thiel's behalf. Power prices, hedges, plant economics and capital allocation can matter as much as data-center headlines, and a cheap multiple versus Constellation can persist if investors continue to prefer nuclear ******* ets and long-duration contracts.

Peter Thiel is a billionaire investor who co-founded PayPal and Palantir. He was the first outside investor in Facebook, and he runs Founders Fund, the venture firm that put the first institutional money into ******* eX.
Thiel Macro LLC, the fund run by the PayPal and Palantir co-founder, recently filed its second-quarter 13F. The filing shows the fund bought 308,617 shares of American Electric Power Company, Inc. (NASDAQ:AEP) and 839,319 shares of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE:FE) in the second quarter. The AEP stake was worth $42.22 million at the end of the quarter, and the FirstEnergy stake was worth $39.90 million.
In this article, we will focus on AEP.
For decades, American Electric Power was just a major utility company providing electricity to American households, with no prospects of explosive growth. But the AI boom changed everything. Training and running large models need enormous amounts of round-the-clock electricity, and hyperscalers are racing to build data centers wherever they can get power. Demand is now coming to AEP faster than it can serve it. Why? Because it runs a major transmission network in the US across 11 states. The company now has 69 gigawatts of contracted load additions through 2030, up 6 gigawatts in the second quarter alone. Around 90% of that is data centers. Texas customers alone have put up nearly $2 billion in cash and collateral. If a customer walks away, termination fees and minimum demand clauses protect the shareholder.
AEP locks customers in with letters of agreement, electric service agreements and large-load tariffs that require minimum demand after ramp, plus collateral and termination fees.

Several former Minnesota Vikings players have entered the podcasting ***** e. Ben Leber has his show "Sound the Horn," alongside Cy Amundson, while Antony Barr and Eric Kendricks have "Bent Outta Shape."
Nonetheless, Vikings fans will need to expand their bandwidth for podcasts, as former wideout Adam Thielen is also launching his own. Moreover, Thielen's show called "Dialed" isn't sticking to just football; he intends to cover other sports as well and aspects of life.
"Just showing how guys get dialed, right?" Thielen said during an Aug. 28 appearance on "Good Morning Football." "I always talk about, like, man, I got to go get dialed in, whether it's golf, football, what have you, being a husband, being a father.
"There's always improvement, always something to work on to get truly dialed. So this podcast dives into male and female athletes, performers, entertainers, how they got to the top of the top and how they stayed there.
"A lot of them are 10, 12, 15-year professional athletes. And how did they do that? And then at the end, it always ties back to golf. So why do you play golf? Why do you love golf? Does it help you in your sport? Does it not?"

Shares of Vista Energy (VIST) climbed after Peter Thiel, co-founder and chair of Palantir Technologies (PLTR), disclosed a roughly 1% stake in the Argentine oil and gas producer. Thiel Macro LLC spent about $76 million to acquire roughly 1.2 million American depositary shares, making Vista Energy its second-largest holding behind Amazon (AMZN) and its only non-U.S. stock.
The stake also comes as Thiel deepens his ties to Argentina. He met President Javier Milei at the presidential palace about four months before the filing, and Milei said they discussed economic policy and their opposition to wealth taxes. Argentine media have also reported that Thiel bought a home in an upscale Buenos Aires neighborhood.

Later this month, members of the Los Angeles Lakers will head to Slovenia to take part in a four-day minicamp that is being held there by Luka Doncic. It will be an opportunity for these players, especially the many new ones, to build chemistry and camaraderie ahead of the official start of training camp several weeks from now.
The Lakers are now fully centered around Doncic and Austin Reaves, and the two have developed a legitimate friendship with each other. Reaves has been in China on a tour with Rigorer, the company he has a signature sneaker with, and he was asked about that upcoming minicamp. He responded by trash-talking Doncic a little.
"I'm going to feel great. I'm gonna kick his [expletive] in golf. That'll be a lot of fun. But it'll just be good to get around everybody. We got a fairly new team, a lot of new guys, so it'll just be good to be around them, get to know one another off the court and just build that chemistry there."
Just about everyone knows that Reaves is a huge fan of golf and that he plays the game quite often. He recently took part in the American Century Championship, an annual celebrity golf tournament, and he finished in a tie for 16th along with NFL wide receiver Adam Thielen.
Doncic has also picked up golf, but it is pretty safe to say that he isn't as avid a golfer as Reaves is.

Suki Waterhouse has spent eight years with Robert Pattinson without watching the movie franchise that turned him into an international star.
Pattinson played vampire Edward Cullen in the original 2008 film and its four sequels, which were released through 2012.
During an appearance on In Your Dreams With Owen Thiele, the singer and actress revealed that she has never seen any of the five Twilight films.
Waterhouse said she intends to correct that eventually, but she has no interest in experiencing the vampire saga alone.
Host Owen Thiele introduced the subject by asking Waterhouse whether she supported Team Edward or Team Jacob. "I've never seen it," she responded. After Thiele expressed disbelief, Waterhouse confirmed that she had not watched the films but promised that she would "one day."

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Vikings fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
It is time. . .once again. . .for another of our SB Nation Reacts surveys about our Minnesota Vikings, where we ask the readers of the internet’s best site about this particular football team their opinion on a matter of importance. Since we asked about who will lead the team in a notable defensive statistical category last week, we’ve decided to move over to the offensive side of the ball this week.
Specifically, we want to know who you think will lead the Vikings in touchdown catches for the 2026 season. I know that the instinct for a lot of folks is going to be for the great Justin Jefferson to have a big-time bounce-back season after a rough 2025, but it’s worth pointing out an important stat. For as great as Jefferson has been, he’s only outright led the Vikings in touchdown receptions twice in his six seasons with the team: 2022 and 2024. He tied for the team lead in 2021 with Adam Thielen, so he’s had a share in the team lead three times in his six seasons with the Vikings.
Jefferson’s new teammate, Jauan Jennings, led the San Francisco 49ers in touchdown receptions last season with nine, and Jordan Addison had 10 touchdown catches in his rookie season back in 2023, so this team has three different receivers who have each led their team in touchdown catches at some point. T.J. Hockenson is still in the mix as well and could certainly factor in as a red zone threat.
With all of those things in mind, we want to hear your opinion on who you think is going to lead this team in touchdown catches in 2026. Will it be one of the big three receivers? Can Hockenson regain some of the form he had prior to his knee injury? Or is there a player that we’re not seeing that is going to surprise us somehow?

Lockup Expirations Hurt Speculative Stocks More
The irony: the date is printed in the prospectus months ahead, yet retail investors get blindsided every time.
When a high-momentum stock hits its lockup expiration, two things collide: a surge in available supply and a pool of early holders sitting on large unrealized gains. The result is rarely orderly.
Palantir is the cleanest example. Retail enthusiasm drove the stock from $10 to levels near $40 between its September 2020 listing and February 2021. When the lockup expired, insiders, including Peter Thiel, sold tens of millions of shares into that premium. The stock fell 13% in a single session and spent months recovering. Rivian (RIVN) dropped about 20% in one day after Ford (F) disclosed it would sell its stake at the 180-day mark. Uber (UBER) hit an all-time low on its expiration date, down 40% from its IPO price. Even Snowflake, which used a staggered schedule, still dropped roughly 11% over its final expiration week. The pattern holds across cases: the higher the speculative premium at IPO, the more painful the expiration tends to be.
