The Denver Broncos were in a desperate situation entering the 2026 AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. With starting quarterback Bo Nix injured and missing the game, the team reportedly reached out to Hall of Famer Drew Brees to see if he was interested in what could have been one of the most surreal moments in the sport's history.
The Broncos had homefield advantage, but were dealt a cruel blow with Nix breaking his ankle late in their Divisional Round overtime win against the Buffalo Bills. Backup Jarrett Stidham started the game and in blizzard-like conditions, could only muster seven points as the Patriots won 10-7 to advance to the Super Bowl.
But what if it was one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time under center for the Broncos that day?
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos did indeed reach out to Drew Brees to gauge his interest in an improbable comeback. Considering that Sean Payton coaches the Broncos and the pairing is one of the most successful in NFL history while winning a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints, it's easy to see why Denver made the call. Brees and Payton are the second-winningest QB/Coach combo in NFL history, only behind Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
Of course, there would have been one major obstacle to overcome. Drew Brees had just turned 47 and hadn't played a competitive NFL game since January 17, 2021 in a playoff loss to Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, Brees wouldn't have been alone in making an incredible return as Philip Rivers had come out of five years of retirement to play three games for the injury-plagued Indianapolis Colts. While Rivers went 0-3 as a starter, he completed 63% of his passes and threw 4 TDs to 3 INTS.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — As first impressions go, the new-look Buffalo Bills under Joe Brady opened the season looking much like the team previously coached by Sean McDermott.
And that's not an altogether good thing.
Josh Allen was a near one-man offensive show in a 36-31 win at Houston that featured eight lead changes, including four in the final quarter. He threw two TD passes and had two rushing for his 25th four-touchdown career outing; improved to 24-8 when topping 300 yards passing; and pulled out the victory with his 26th game-winning drive.
Breathtaking as the performance was, it was also reminiscent of the recent past with Allen once again required to patch over the defense's deficiencies. This was one of the reasons the Bills changed course in January by firing McDermott after Buffalo's defensive dud in a 33-30 overtime playoff loss to Denver.
Though on Sunday the defense came up with a victory-sealing stop on Greg Rousseau's strip-sack of C.J. Stroud with 9 seconds remaining at the Bills 18, it marked one of the few times Buffalo got the Texans off the field.

The Buffalo Bills got the better of the Houston Texans in their 2026 NFL regular season opener by taking a 36-31 win.
The contest saw the Bills exercise demons of the past in Houston. finally winning a game at Reliant Stadium for the first time in nearly two decades. It came in a whirlwind, comeback effort too.
Onlookers can learn plenty from such a game.
With that, here are Bills Wire's three things we learned from Week 1:
The Bills came from behind not just once but many times in this one. This Buffalo vs. Houston outing had eight different lead changes, a very high number. That's a sign of team that will battle for their head coach in Joe Brady, who earned it first-career win on Sunday.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw the best and worst of Baker Mayfield in their first season-opening loss since 2020.
Tom Brady led them to a Super Bowl ***** le that season so 0-1 isn't an insurmountable deficit.
Plus, every team in the NFC South lost on Sunday.
Mayfield lost three fumbles that led to 17 points, including one that was returned for a score in Tampa Bay's 33-27 loss to Cincinnati. He also held the ball took long at times, taking four sacks. But Mayfield had an efficient game when he wasn't giving the ball away. He completed 23 of 28 passes for 216 yards and ran for 30 yards, including a touchdown.
If Mayfield protected the ball, the outcome would've been different.

Aran Murphy had his first viral moment. After hitting the red carpet for his new show, Youth, social media users pointed out how similar the 19-year-old up-and-coming actor's mannerisms are to those of Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, Aran's father. "I knew who his dad was before I even heard him," adds one commenter underneath Aran's video interview, which took place on September 11.
Aran has a big year ahead, with a number of projects set to hit the small and big screen. Keep scrolling to get to know Cillian's sons, Aran and Malachy, whom he shares with his wife, artist Yvonne McGuinness. Though Cillian famously avoids the spotlight, he's shared several details about his family life and his son's career over the years.
Aran is Cillian's youngest son, born in July 2007. After spending the first few years of his life in London, Aran moved with his family to Dublin in 2015, per The Telegraph.

Liam Brady signed the Dublin born winger from Bangor, having been impressed with his terrific form with the Northern Irish side. Form that saw him scoop each of the club's four player of the year awards in a season they won the domestic cup, with Paul himself scoring in the final.
Paul had started his professional career in England with Oxford United, but his time at the U's was by all accounts a disaster, so he decided to up-sticks, and head back nearer to home in a bid to reinvent himself.
It worked, as he was soon a Celtic player, the stuff of dreams for any Dublin youngster, especially with Irish legend Brady in charge of the Hoops, and despite the club being in turmoil on and off the park, it was great honour and opportunity for the 20 year old Byrne.

The Buffalo Bills will visit the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium on Sunday with an important win on the line. Come the end of the season, these early-year victories come in handy.
For this AFC battle between Joe Brady's Bills and DeMeco Ryan's, it will be the games, within the game, that will make all the difference.
Here are Bills Wire's three key matchup to watch Week 15's Bills vs. Texans matchup in Week 1:
Anderson led the line for a Texans defense that beat up Bills quarterback Josh Allen when these two teams faced off last season. Anderson had 2.5 sacks and the Texans had eight as a team. Brown needs to be a lot better against him in 2026. Brown has noted that he was playing through injury last year.
Expectations are high for Moore's debut with the Bills. Can he be the top playmaker Buffalo's offense has lacked in recent years? If he is, Moore will have a tough task to show it. Stingley is a two-time All-Pro defensive back and will probably follow Moore around all game.

The Buffalo Bills will open the 2026 NFL season in a place where they have struggled to find success in recent years: on the road against the Houston Texans, who boast one of the league's stingiest defenses.
Since coming to the Bills as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Josh Allen has led the Bills into Houston four times. And in all four prior matchups, the Bills couldn't pull out the win.
Sunday will mark the third consecutive season where Buffalo has traveled to Houston, and today's edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off by sharing the key matchups to watch and positional ***** ysis as the Bills look to snap that streak and begin the season with a big road win over a fellow playoff participant from last season.
Check out the ***** sments below and then let us know your thoughts on the game in the comments section.

3 burning Senators questions entering 2026-27 NHL season appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Ottawa Senators had a lot of change happen this offseason. It seemed as if things would operate as normal until a few days before the NHL Draft. Then, the Senators traded Brady Tkachuk in a stunning blockbuster deal with the Florida Panthers.
Tkachuk trade rumors weren't anything new, to be fair. There was once a midseason report about a trade to the New York Rangers that had to be shot down, for instance. What was different here was that there was no real speculation. It wasn't like the Dylan Larkin situation, where a trade was requested publicly.
But a trade was requested behind the scenes, and things were kept quiet until the trade went down. The Senators moved on from their captain and are officially entering a new era of their franchise. What that looks like remains to be seen for now.

Heading into the 2026 NFL season, Joe Brady is the NFL's youngest head coach at the ripe old age of 36. And while he has spent the past few years working with Josh Allen and directing one of the league's highest scoring offenses, Brady says his primary focus has always been on connecting with his players through his authentic, energetic approach to leadership.
"I never thought my identity was, 'I want to be a head coach,'" Brady told BuffaloBills.com. "I just wanted to call plays."
After spending time as Buffalo's quarterbacks coach (2022-23), interim offensive coordinator (2023) and offensive coordinator (2024-25), Brady realized he was ready to take on the challenge of being a head coach.
Today's edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off by breaking down Brady's leadership and coaching style, discussing what motivates Brady and finding out how Brady is bringing a new energy to the Bills.

During the episode aired on September 8, Mad Money host Jim Cramer turned his focus to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), breaking down why the tech giant remains his ultimate "fantasy football" quarterback for steady, reliable portfolio performance. He stated:
We know how to draft on Mad Money so, break out your pen and paper and let's get started. Now, we got to start with our quarterback in fantasy… You're typically only playing one quarterback per week. And what you want here is consistent production. That's why for the past several years, I've picked Apple as my fantasy stock football QB. As always, own it, don't trade it. Not only does Apple make the most beloved products in the world, they're playing a very different game from their mega cap peers. Everybody else is spending hundreds of billions of dollars on AI. Apple's spending next to nothing, just partnering with AI companies. They desperately want access to Apple's massive user base.
To me, that makes Apple a lot less risky than the other members of the Magnificent Seven. To put that in NFL terms, Apple reminds me of Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. Allen's a known quantity. He was the league MVP two years ago. Then last year, he had 25 passing touchdowns, 14 rushing touchdowns, which, well, it gives you more points in fantasy football. But the main parallel is that both Apple and Allen are now under new management. For the first time in 15 years, Apple has a new CEO, John Ternus, who officially took over from Tim Cook last week. Similarly, at the end of last season, the Buffalo Bills let go of former head coach Sean McDermott, nine seasons, promoting former offensive coordinator Joe Brady to the position.
Cramer's comparison highlights Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) distinct structural advantage within the Magnificent Seven. While rival mega-cap tech peers sink hundreds of billions of dollars into capital-intensive data center builds and proprietary AI infrastructure, the company has adopted a resource-efficient model. By integrating third-party AI capabilities while guarding its massive, high-intent global user base, the company limits its exposure to heavy upfront capital expenditure and margin compression.
Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) high user retention continues to drive significant cash flow generation. Its hardware and premium services loop creates deep consumer loyalty, allowing the company to maintain pricing power and high profitability without taking on the aggressive infrastructure risk carried by other major technology players.

WATERBURY - High school football's double-wing offense is affectionately known by smashmouth running game enthusiasts as the "hammer."
Naugatuck was down 14 points in its season opener against Holy Cross on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium's Ray Snyder Sr. Field, but that changed once the visitors went to the hammer offense.
The Greyhounds scored three unanswered touchdowns, the last two runs of 15 and 4 yards by Brandon Andoh behind a monster offensive line, to stun the Crusaders 27-20.
Andoh's 4-yard score with 33.4 seconds left in the game and Gabriel Bello's third extra point in four attempts gave Naugatuck a 7-point lead, its first of the game.
The Greyhounds' defense made sure a last-ditch Hail Mary pass from Crusaders quarterback Brady Lombardo came up short of the end zone. That set off a massive celebration by Naugatuck and its student section.

Brandon Graham's first retirement was a brief one, but he says the second one will be a lasting exit from the football field.
Graham said at an event on Tuesday, via Rob Kuestner of NBC Philadelphia, that he is "officially done" playing football. Graham retired after the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans in February 2025, but the defensive end returned to the team in October and played in 10 games for the team.
Graham spent his entire NFL career with the Eagles. The 2010 first-round pick has the franchise record with 215 regular season appearances and he played in 13 playoff games, including both of the franchise's Super Bowl wins.
Graham had 495 tackles, 79.5 sacks, 23 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries in those 215 regular season games. He added 21 tackles, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in the playoffs. One of those forced fumbles came against Tom Brady late in the fourth quarter of Philadelphia's Super Bowl LII win.

Why the Buffalo Bills are Sporting News' pick to win Super Bowl 61 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Buffalo Bills haven't been to the Super Bowl in 33 seasons, when they lost their fourth consecutive appearance against the Cowboys after the 1993 season. The Bills' NFL existence without a ring, however, will end when they return and win Super Bowl 61 as the best overall team in 2026.
The Josh Allen Era, going back to his breakout second season as Buffalo's starting quarterback in 2019, has been fruitful. The Bills have been to the playoffs for seven consecutive seasons and their run of five straight AFC East ******* les ended last year to the eventual AFC champion Patriots.
Although those Bills playoff trips all have ended in losing disappointment — four times in the divisional round, twice in the AFC ******* le game — those were with coach Sean McDermott. The Bills had gone 83-33 in the regular season since '19 and didn't have enough to show for it the postseason, prompting the team to fire McDermott and promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady to replace him.
So why is there renewed confidence to get to and win the Super Bowl after the '26 season, despite having a 36-year-old rookie head coach? There are good vibes that Allen, the 2024 NFL MVP, will benefit from having a direct line to Brady, with whom he has a great relationship.

Ever since seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady stepped into a role as a broadcaster with Fox while also becoming a part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders franchise, he has faced criticism over potential conflicts of interest and how the limitations placed on him might impact his career as a broadcaster.
Brady, however, doesn't sound too concerned about that.
During a recent interview before the 2026 NFL season, Brady dismissed concerns about any potential conflict of interest or his job as a broadcaster as "clickbait."
Brady has faced criticism for holding a role as a broadcaster – where he is supposed to remain impartial – as well as being a part owner of an NFL team. To help address that, Brady has some special limitations impacting his access to other teams before games, which critics have claimed might impact his ability to perform as a broadcaster.
In a recent feature by Richard Deitsch and Austin Karp at Sports Business Journal on the NFL on Fox, Brady dismissed criticism as "clickbait."

On a stormy Sunday night in September, the Dodgers completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals, winning the finale 7-5.
Both Justin Wrobleski and Nationals southpaw Andrew Alvarez kept the ice frozen until the bottom of the third inning, as a Max Muncy double and Tommy Edman infield single allowed Mookie Betts to bring home Muncy on a groundout to give the Dodgers their third consecutive early lead.
After three scoreless innings without six strikeouts, the Nationals struck back in the top of the fourth with a lead-off home run from CJ Abrams— his third in seven at-bats against Wrobleski— evening the score at one. Brady House immediately followed with a single, and a double from Daylen Lile put two men on, still with no outs. Teoscar Hernández was unable to track down a fly ball to left from Harry Ford, plating both baserunners and giving Washington a two-run lead. Jacob Young carried the frenzy with a single to center to plate four, ending the night for Wrobleski.
The second half of the regular season has not been kind to Wrobleski, as he has a 7.55 ERA across 31 innings over seven appearances (six starts). His three complete innings on Sunday were the fewest in any start this season.
Brock Stewart managed to clean up the mess made by Wrobleski, and Blake Treinen made his first appearance since June 19, working a scoreless fifth inning to keep the deficit at three runs. The Dodgers responded with a rally against Alvarez in the bottom half, as a Tommy Edman double plated Max Muncy to cut the deficit in half. Brad Lord came in relief and got Mookie Betts to ground out for the first out, but the Dodgers sprayed three consecutive singles to knot the game even at 4.

Seattle Seahawks WR Tory Horton (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Sunday, Sept. 6, due to a hamstring injury.
SOURCE: Brady Henderson - ESPN.com
Why it Matters: Horton flashed some big-play potential with limited opportunities last season, but unless there are injuries to Jaxon Smith-Njigba or Rashid Shaheed, Horton's figures to be used sparingly again. At best, he could be a WR5 in deeper formats.

TORONTO (AP) — Derrick Etienne Jr. scored the tying goal in second-half stoppage time and Josh Sargent recorded his first career hat trick as Toronto FC rallied for a 4-4 draw against the Chicago Fire on Saturday night.
Toronto (5-7-11) allowed the first goal and came back to earn at least a draw for the eighth time this season.
Chicago (11-6-5) played to a draw for the third straight match.
Sargent scored his first goal on a strike from the center of the box in the 27th minute. Nine minutes later, Sargent sent a shot past Chicago goalkeeper Chris Brady for a 2-1 lead. Sargent broke a 2-all tie in the 54th for Toronto's first hat trick since Federico Bernardeschi did so against Montreal on May 18, 2024.
But a pair of defensive breakdowns led to Chicago reclaiming the lead.

Cam Newton is calling out the commonality between Troy Aikman, Tom Brady, Cris Collinsworth, Kirk Herbstreit, Tony Romo, and J.J. Watt.
After Dan Le Batard highlighted the perpetual cycle of white guys getting most NFL broadcasting jobs, especially in primetime, Newton continued the conversation on his 4th & 1 show, wondering what metric networks use to hire ******* ysts.
"Is it the position you played? Is it your resume as a player?" Newton asked. "Or is it just the likability? Because if we're talking about how did Kirk Herbstreit get that deal? We know how Tom Brady got his deal. How does Tony Romo get his deal? We know how Troy Aikman got his deal. How does Cris Collinsworth get his deal? These are all mainstream color commentators that we see. We're seeing these faces, as if to say Charles Davis is not capable…RGIII is not capable. Jonathan Vilma, is he capable? Jason McCourty, is he capable?"
Newton went on to note Louis Riddick briefly had a primetime ******* yst role on Monday Night Football until ESPN tapped him on the shoulder to say Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were taking over. Newton also cited Nate Burleson and Michael Strahan as NFL players turned media personalities who are more than qualified to be a lead ******* yst on a primetime game.
"Do you not think Ryan Clark is capable? We've seen it," Newton continued. "Brandon Marshall, he's a sharp guy. You got a guy like Emmanuel Acho, who verbally, his vernacular can hold its own with whoever. Do you always have to be a quarterback? Well, J.J. Watt's not a quarterback. Luke Kuechly is not a quarterback. So what's the metric here?"

More than half a decade after the pandemic fundamentally changed how consumers interact with restaurants, delivery has moved well beyond the "turn it on" phase for full-service operators. The focus now is less on adding a sales channel than on optimizing one that touches the kitchen, labor model, guest relationship, and broader tech stack.
"We look at it a little differently nowadays," says Jason Saposnik, VP of information technology for FSC Franchise Co., the parent company of Beef 'O' Brady's, The Brass Tap, and Newk's Eatery. "Early on, the focus was more about just growing delivery sales. Now, we're a lot more focused on whether those sales are profitable, how the restaurants can handle that increased volume, and whether customers are actually getting the same great experience."
The first major improvement in delivery operations was straightforward: getting orders into the restaurant without forcing employees to act as the integration layer.
Saposnik recalls an earlier "tablet ******* " environment in which teams monitored separate devices for DoorDash, Uber Eats, and other channels, then manually entered orders into the POS. "That created all sorts of issues for missed orders and mistakes and delays," he says. "Now, everything just flows into the POS and into the kitchen correctly."

Tom Brady was among the notable faces in the crowd when Texas volleyball faced Nebraska on Aug. 30, but one moment involving the former NFL quarterback drew particular attention.
Brady, a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, attended the match with his daughter, Vivian. During the event, he was seen embracing Nebraska outside hitter Harper Murray.
For Texas fans wondering about the connection, it goes back to Michigan football.
Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl winner, played quarterback at Michigan from 1995 to 1999 before he was selected in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft.
Murray's father, Vada Murray, also played for the Wolverines. He was a defensive back at Michigan from 1988 to 1990.
