Feeling wealthy in retirement is often just that — a feeling. Having an active social life, a solid purpose and enough cash in the bank to never worry about monthly bills might be all you need to describe yourself as a "rich" retiree.
Feelings aside, what do the cold, hard numbers show? Most Americans agree you need at least $2.2 million (1) to be considered wealthy in America. But they might be surprised to see that you actually need considerably more than that to land in the top 10% of U.S. retirees.

Washington has a way of making the economy feel good. But Jamie Dimon wants Americans to look at what's fueling the high.
Speaking at the Economic Club of Chicago earlier this month, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) compared government spending to a powerful drug — one that can boost corporate profits while setting the stage for a painful aftermath.

If Miguel Bezos could have chosen, he would have stayed in Santiago de Cuba during his teens. History had other plans.
After the Cuban Revolution, Bezos's parents didn't see much of a future for Miguel under the new Fidel Castro regime. They were also concerned for their own well-being.

Smriti Mandhana has revealed that former India captain MS Dhoni personally congratulated her after the Indian women's team lifted their maiden ODI World Cup ***** le in November 2025.
Speaking at an event featuring Dhoni, Mandhana recalled receiving a WhatsApp message from the legendary cricketer following India's historic triumph. She admitted that the gesture made her particularly happy, knowing that Dhoni is not someone who uses his phone frequently.
"He actually did send me a message after the World Cup win. I know he does not use his phone a lot. I was very happy that he used WhatsApp to congratulate all of us," Mandhana said.
Host Harsha Bhogle then asked Mandhana whether she had saved Dhoni's number.
"I did have his number," she replied.
Dhoni, meanwhile, offered an interesting explanation for choosing Mandhana as the recipient of his message. He revealed that she was the only member of the Indian women's team whose contact number he had saved.
"I did not know anyone else's (number) from the team. I wanted the message to go through. We had just shot (a commercial) before that. I thought, 'Let me send a message to Smriti' and I mentioned, 'Please wish everyone who is part of the team," Dhoni said.
India created history on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai to win their first-ever Women's ODI World Cup. The triumph ended the team's long wait for an ICC ***** le.
Batting first in the final, India posted 298/7, with Shafali Verma leading the charge with 87 runs and Deepti Sharma contributing 58. Deepti then delivered with the ball, taking five wickets as South Africa were dismissed for 246 despite a century from Laura Wolvaardt.

Lewis Hamilton says he is unlike any driver Formula 1 has seen before and reaffirmed a determination to keep racing into his mid-forties.
The seven-time world champion recently said he wanted to continue in the sport to fulfil a dream of racing in Africa, having campaigned for a Grand Prix there for many years.
F1 has signed a 10-year deal with the central-east African country of Rwanda starting in the early 2030s which will be a first race on the continent since 1993.
Hamilton is 41 and will be at least 45 when that race takes place, but he told a news conference before this weekend's Mexico Grand Prix that he should be considered a special case.
The Briton said F1 had "never had anyone like me in the 70 years" of the sport and he felt like he was "built differently".

Bo Bichette's decision to opt into a second year with the Mets was not a surprise to anyone in the organization. He had one of the worst statistical seasons of his career offensively – not exactly the kind of year players try to ride into free agency. He spoke glowingly of new manager Andy Green. And he seemed to find comfort in the clubhouse and on the New York stage – as if he had arrived with something to prove and finally remembered he was capable of proving it.
But while the Mets have expected for several weeks now that Bichette would be back, his return nevertheless qualifies as crucial to their offseason. With Bichette, the Mets lineup in 2027 will include all the key components of a group that posted the fifth-best OPS in the majors after August 1… even with Juan Soto injured for part of that time.
The top of the order looked versatile and energetic when Francisco Lindor was healthy and leading off and Soto was healthy and hitting second and Bichette was behind them, putting the ball in play with Carson Benge there to drive everyone in. Bichette's return means the Mets can build on the offense they unearthed late last year, rather than having to reconfigure it.
But because Bichette's decision was not a surprise, expectations for the Mets season should not pivot because of it. They still need, and plan to pursue, starting pitching. They will still explore options to upgrade offensively at first base, though exactly how high they will aim – and how much money or prospect capital they are willing to spend there – remains unclear.
And they still seem likely to give one of their infield prospects a chance somewhere in the majors next season. With Bichette back, the most obvious place for a prospect to elbow in would be second, though because Bichette has also played second base, the Mets could make room for a prospect at third.

The Detroit Tigers nearly sent Tarik Skubal to the Milwaukee Brewers instead of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and newly revealed details suggest the deal was much closer to happening than anyone realized.
In fact, Milwaukee reportedly believed it had reached an agreement in principle with Detroit before Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris ultimately went in another direction.
The proposed deal would have landed Detroit three highly regarded position-player prospects, including one of baseball's most promising young infielders.
Instead, Harris chose a package built around outfielder Zyhir Hope and two pitching prospects.
Now that the Brewers have won the 2026 World Series, the behind-the-scenes details make Detroit's decision even more fascinating.

President Trump recently joked at a rally in Texas that the $5,000 payments he's promised if Republicans win the midterm elections would only get Americans "a hamburger and maybe a small dessert" at his Mar-a-Lago club.
The president has vowed to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain majorities in the House and the Senate after the midterm elections on Nov. 3. Trump specified, though, that the money must be spent in the U.S., pitching his own club as a possible — yet expensive — option on where to spend it.
The tax breaks in Trump's 'big beautiful bill' expire after 2028. Here are 4 moves to make before the window closes

Today, Suze Orman is one of the world's foremost financial experts. Once upon a time, though, she was a little girl who watched her father run into a burning building.
As Orman explained on her podcast, she and her mother went to pick her father up from work one day and found him outside the chicken shack where he worked. The chicken shack was ablaze, and Orman watched her father run into the building that was engulfed in flames.

Kimberly Guilfoyle has lost her ambassador job, but her name still carries a six-figure price tag on the speaking circuit. The former Fox News personality is listed for appearances costing between $50,000 and $100,000 after she left as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid allegations of financial misconduct, which she denies. Whether anyone is paying those rates is another question. The listing offers a glimpse of her potential earning power, but it doesn't show that she's booked a single six-figure engagement.
Papadakis Press/MEGA
According to her Speaker Booking Agency profile, Guilfoyle is available for speaking engagements, corporate appearances, virtual events, moderated discussions, and meet-and-greets. The page displays a speaking-fee range of $50,000 to $100,000 and lists West Palm Beach, Florida, as her departure point.
That puts the advertised upper limit for one appearance at the same dollar figure as the American Express payment at the center of the controversy surrounding her diplomatic career. The two amounts concern separate matters. One is a public booking estimate, while the other involves disputed allegations about a donor's financial dealings with her.

Adrianne Curry blasted Victoria's Secret for the runway appearances of Kylie Jenner and Alex Consani at the 2026 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
During a YouTube live stream on Monday (Oct. 19), the 44-year-old America's Next Top Model season one winner criticized the brand's direction and shared her frustrations alleging the brand selects established celebrities and influencers over unknown talent and models.

LONDON (AP) — Sarina Wiegman has signed a contract extension to stay as head coach of the England's women team through the 2029 European Championship, the FA said on Monday.
The Dutch coach, who will turn 57 later this month, led the Lionesses to a second straight Euros ****** le last year, having also steered the team to the World Cup final in 2023.
"I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football," she said. "Of course, anyone who knows me will understand that my main concern right now is absolutely the World Cup, and helping this squad realize their potential in the years to come."
Wiegman's previous deal was due to expire after the 2027 women's World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Brazil next June. England will qualify for the tournament if it defeats Ukraine in a two-leg playoff, with the return game at Wembley Stadium on Dec. 5.
Wiegman, who was appointed as England coach in 2021, has reached five successive major tournament finals, having already claimed the European crown with the Netherlands in 2017.

Penn State football may need a week off as much as anyone in the country.
The Nittany Lions must attempt to retool themselves in light of their disheartening 3-4 start, including the 21-18 meltdown defeat at Michigan — their fourth straight in Big Ten action — to start the Matt Campbell era.
The Lions have lost each of their conference games after beginning Campbell's first season in State College with three decisive, non-conference victories.
Penn State will not play this weekend, their only open date of the 2026 season. Its next game will be on Halloween against the Purdue Boilermakers (2-5, 1-3 Big Ten) in Beaver Stadium.
The Lions, stunningly enough, are in the middle of a four-game Big Ten losing streak for the second straight season. Last year, they lost six straight under fired head coach James Franklin and interim leader Terry Smith before winning at Michigan State.

Swimmers brandishing short, curved sticks held their breath as they somersaulted and dove towards a weighted puck at the bottom of a Hong Kong swimming pool, vying for first place in a sport likened to voluntary drowning.
The annual underwater hockey tournament, ominously advertised as "physical ****** ", nevertheless drew a roster of hardcore enthusiasts from countries across Asia to the Chinese city over the weekend.
"You have to choose when to use your breath and when not to... Anyone that's got the puck, you know that they've got some level of suffering," Leo Lines, a ****** anese-New Zealander competitor from Hokkaido, told AFP.
"I love that."
Suited up in snorkel masks and fins, players only resurface for air when they absolutely have to, and their heads remain constantly underwater so they can monitor the game.

Ben Simmons was on the way to making his big NBA comeback this season, but injury has crushed those hopes. The former All-Star isn't losing hope, though.
Ben Simmons' career has been a strange one, full of some unexpected twists and turns. The 30-year-old has been an All-Star three times during his younger days, but he was also effectively out of the NBA entirely last season.
There has been a lot of optimistic noise around Simmons this year. The Sacramento Kings signed him and he was supposed to come back at an incredibly high level. Just a few days before the NBA season begins, though, Simmons has suffered another major injury setback.
News reports on Sunday revealed something which anyone who hears about it will find quite cruel. After all the work that Simmons has put in this offseason, a torn Achilles has now ended his season before it even begins. Injury issues have been a big factor in the downfall of his career.
Any other player might just give up in this spot, but it seems Simmons isn't ready to call it just yet. He took to social media to share a message with his followers.

The Georgia Bulldogs entered Saturday's matchup against the Auburn Tigers ranked No. 1 in the country after earning a road victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide.
However, after jumping out to a 14-0 lead against the Tigers, Georgia watched Auburn storm back with 24 unanswered points to pull off a shocking 27-24 upset. Kicker Alex McPherson sealed the win with a game-winning field goal.
Georgia had the ball near midfield with the score tied 24-24 and a chance to drive down the field for the win. However, quarterback Gunner Stockton fumbled, and Auburn recovered before driving into field goal range.
After the game, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart made it clear that he trusts his quarterback more than anyone in the country with the ball in his hands, and the late turnover didn't change that.
"We wouldn't have been in the position we were if it wasn't for Gunner … I thought he did a good job keeping us in the game," Smart said. "Very unfortunate on the fumble. If there's anybody I'd pick to have the ball in their hands, it'd be him."

Nahla Aubry, 18, has defended her mother Halle Berry against allegations made by Olivier Martinez.
Halle Berry's 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Aubry, has spoken out in defense of her mother amid an ongoing custody dispute involving Berry and her ex-husband Olivier Martinez. In a declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Nahla said she had never witnessed Berry act violently toward anyone or physically abuse 13-year-old Maceo.
Nahla described Berry as a "loving and devoted parent" who is warm, supportive, and deeply involved in her children's lives. She said she has lived with Maceo for most of his life and has never seen her mother hit, slap, choke, grab, or otherwise physically abuse him. Nahla also said she has seen her mother and Maceo playfully wrestle and interact affectionately, adding that she never saw him appear hurt or distressed afterward.
Nahla said she was "shocked, very sad, and very upset" when she learned about the allegations. She also said Berry has encouraged both children to maintain relationships with their fathers and has not spoken negatively about either man to them.
Martinez, Berry's former husband and Maceo's father, has sought sole custody of their son. In court filings, he alleged that Berry physically abused Maceo during a Sept. 26 incident, including allegations that she put her hands around the boy's neck and choked him.

When did we lose the art of enjoyment? These days, the average person loves a think piece—specifically, having their own and putting it out there for the world to see. It stems from this new access we have on the internet to each other. On ****** es like TikTok, Instagram, and X and Threads, we can reach beyond our narrow circles into the phones of literally anyone else. Out of this environment, we've normalized an even more extreme parasocial nature between celebrities, influencers, and each other. The new internet landscape involves users ****** yzing and critiquing anyone who chooses to try or put themselves out there, serving as amateur publicists, stylists, and brand-image architects. There's an element of this new world order that's thrilling—our opinions matter! But...what's that phrase about opinions again?
I'd argue that we've critiqued ourselves into mass hysteria, conflating personal opinion with expertise. Just because someone has something to say doesn't mean they actually know what they're saying. There once was a time when people took the time to learn, gain experience, and work in a specific field so they're equipped to handle certain industries. But now, everyone simply thinks they know enough about everything. And it's making fashion and entertainment commentary less fun for everyone involved.
Over the last few weeks, with Fashion Month, the Emmys, and the VMAs, we were inundated with sartorial opinions on the internet. Top of mind for me was Shailene Woodley's Emmys look.

Getting Shedeur Sanders' attention is one thing. Getting invited into his inner circle requires considerably more patience.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback opened up about dating in a new Cosmopolitan interview, explaining why he's careful about relationships. Growing up with the Sanders name has given him plenty of experience with attention, including the kind he would prefer to keep at a distance.
Sanders made his priorities clear when discussing the prospect of bringing a partner into his life.
"I protect my family, and I protect who I love,"Sanders told Cosmopolitan. "I'm extremely picky with who comes around."
He explained that interest in the lifestyle surrounding an NFL player can complicate dating. Being Deion Sanders' son adds another consideration for anyone entering that world.

Netflix gave up on buying Warner Bros. Discovery's studio and streaming business on Feb. 26. By the next day, Paramount Skydance, the company that outbid it, paid Netflix $2.8 billion.
The money was a breakup fee written into Netflix's own deal with Warner, and Paramount covered it as part of its winning bid, according to a Warner Bros. Discovery securities filing.

The annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) can make or break the finances of retirees, as it determines how much benefits will increase to keep pace with inflation.
Since COLAs are very important to beneficiaries, advocacy groups make predictions throughout the year, offering insight into how much extra money (if any) Social Security recipients will collect in the coming year.

The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has spent most of 2026 at or near record highs. While that's been good news for anyone invested in the index, a problem is developing beneath the surface.
As of Oct. 5, the S&P 500 was trading at less than 1% below its all-time high, yet only 42% of its components were trading above their 200-day moving average. According to Dow Jones Market Data, the last time the S&P 500 was within 1% of a record high while more than half of its stocks traded below their 200-day moving averages was March 2000.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Clearly, no one likes to see comparisons to the peak of the tech bubble. But this isn't a signal to sell stocks. Rather, it's time to rethink what you're actually owning when you buy the S&P 500.
Obviously, the S&P 500 is historically top-heavy right now. Tech stocks account for roughly 38% of the index, while the top 10 holdings also account for approximately 38%.

Kerry Kennedy chronicles the awe-inspiring life of her mother, Ethel Kennedy, in her new book, Ethel Kennedy: The Extraordinary Life and Bold Legacy
While Ethel saw her fair share of tragedy — including the ***** assination of her husband, Robert F. Kennedy, and the deaths of two of her 11 children — she never wavered
"She had a lot to live for," Kerry tells PEOPLE of her mother, who died at age 96 in 2024
No matter what the hit Hulu show Love Story says, Ethel Kennedy would never deny anyone a meal. Her daughter Kerry, 67, scoffs at the very idea that she'd have a breakfast "sign-up" sheet, as depicted in the series about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's relationship. "She's all about, 'Come in. Let me get you some food,' " Kerry says of Ethel's perennial mothering. " 'You've already eaten? Let me get you some cake. You've already had cake? Here's some chocolate.' "
The mother of 11 was three months pregnant with her youngest, Rory, when her husband, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, was shot on June 5, 1968, and died the next day, just five years after his brother President John F. Kennedy's ***** assination. In the aftermath of twin tragedies, she became the one who carried the torch, and her family.
