WASHINGTON, Sept 17 (Reuters) - A federal judge ordered President Donald Trump's administration on Thursday to provide at least 30 days' notice before taking any steps to demolish the Kennedy Center, the landmark performing arts venue ‌that has become a flashpoint in his efforts to reshape the U.S. capital.
U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper issued the order after ‌lawyers for a Democratic congresswoman who is suing to keep the venue open and Trump's name off its facade submitted new evidence citing the Republican president's comments on Wednesday referring to demolishing the Kennedy Center.
"I think that the Trump administration should certainly have recognition. Because frankly, if we don't do that, it's going to close. It'll end up being ripped down," Trump told reporters in North Carolina, referring to putting his name on the facility established by Congress and opened in 1971 as a memorial to slain President John Kennedy.
Matt Floca, the Kennedy Center's Trump-backed executive director, said in a court filing earlier on Thursday that ‌the building was being temporarily closed to ****** s safety risks in areas "exhibiting severe structural deterioration."

A federal judge blocked Trump's name from being added to the building.
President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the Kennedy Center could "close" or be "ripped down" if his administration doesn't receive recognition on the performing arts center as tensions over his name being removed mount.
"I think that the Trump administration should certainly have recognition. Because frankly, if we don't do that, it's going to close. It'll end up being ripped down," the president told reporters on the tarmac in North Carolina.
Trump claimed that the Kennedy Center was a "mess" without his intervention and "has lost 10s of millions of dollars, even hundreds of millions of dollars," comparing it to New York's Carnegie Hall.
The president's comments come after a federal judge on Tuesday blocked the performing arts center's board from adding a tribute to Trump on the building or site. He responded by saying he wouldn't spend congressionally approved funding for the center's renovation unless the building also bears his name.

One day after a dramatic meeting of the arts institution’s Board of Trustees, during which members – many of whom are allies of President Donald Trump – voted to close its doors, lights inside the Kennedy Center’s main building appeared to have been turned off.
The doors had been locked at 6 p.m. Tuesday night and bike racks were stacked up by entrances to block public access.
But officially closing the public monument would violate a court order requiring it remain open as a lawsuit brought by Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty continues.
On Wednesday, US District Court Judge Christopher Cooper, in response to an appeal for an emergency hearing filed by Beatty, ordered the Trump administration to answer questions over the status of the building by Thursday at 10 a.m ET.
Beatty issued the request after a member of her legal team was denied entry to the main building and “was informed by several security staff members that the building is currently closed to the public,” her attorneys said in a court filing.

Bob Mackie had strong feelings about Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe's historic dress.
The legendary fashion designer, whose death was announced Sept. 14 at age 87, sketched the original design at the start of his career while working as an ***** istant to French-born costumer Jean Louis.
Monroe made American history in 1962 when she wore the nude shimmering gown during her performance of "Happy Birthday" for then-President John F. Kennedy. The dress and her serenade were never forgotten.
So much so that 60 years later in 2022, Kardashian worked with the owner of the dress, Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum, to wear the bling-encrusted gown to the Met Gala, acknowledging that she slimmed down dramatically to fit into it.
Mackie called Kardashian's wearing of the skin-tight gown a "big mistake," telling Entertainment Weekly that Monroe was "a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess." He went on to describe her as "just fabulous," noting that the dress "was designed for her."

Iconic fashion designer Bob Mackie died on Monday, September 14, at the age of 87, according to an Instagram post on his page. The beloved designer worked with legendary entertainers such as Cher, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli, and Tina Turner, and as a result of his decades' worth of hard work, Mackie's net worth is impressive.
According to the website Celebrity Net Worth, Mackie leaves behind an estimated net worth of $10 million.
Mackie is remembered for the extravagant designs he created for Cher, Turner, and others who wore risqué, elaborate costumes on stage. As Variety noted, however, one of his first substantial gigs in fashion design was working on The Carol Burnett Show for 11 seasons.
Mackie also created the initial sketch for the iconic dress Marilyn Monroe wore at President John F. Kennedy's 1962 birthday celebration.

Sarah Pidgeon, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette at the Emmys this evening, attended the BAFTA TV Tea Party held at The Maybourne Beverly Hills on Sunday.
Christopher Polk/Deadline via Getty Images
If you were worried that Sarah's awards season run was going to be a succession of black dresses, fear not, because she switched gears in a Givenchy Pre-Fall 2026 oxblood leather dress.
There is considerably more going on here than we've seen from Sarah on the red carpet recently. The folded, asymmetric neckline gives the leather some shape and interest, while the oxblood colour is a welcome change of pace.
For me, this is the kind of look that makes Sarah's style more interesting. The black dresses have served her well and become something of a signature, but I'm hoping this is an indication of what she could give us as awards season gathers pace.

NEW YORK (AP) — Bob Mackie, the fashion designer whose visually provocative Hollywood style defined glamour for the 1970s — including putting Carol Burnett in some of her kookiest getups and Cher in her raciest ones — died Monday. He was 87.
"He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do," a read statement on his social media accounts. "His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world."
Dubbed the "Designer to the Stars," Mackie won nine Emmy Awards, a Tony Award and was nominated for three Oscars, including one for Barbra Streisand's "Funny Lady," in which she wore a sheer batwing gown. He was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Science's Hall of Fame in 2002.
He designed gowns for Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone, Diana Ross and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and concert costumes for Pink. When Marilyn Monroe delivered a breathy, seductive take on "Happy Birthday" at a fundraiser for President John F. Kennedy and the Democratic National Committee, she did it in a sheer, beaded gown that Mackie dreamed up in a sketch.
His influence can be seen in the styles of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid. His archival pieces are worn today by the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy, Miley Cyrus and Zendaya, the latter who wore a Mackie gown to honor Cher at the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. When Taylor Swift wanted to look like a showgirl on the cover of her 2025 album "The Life of a Showgirl," she turned to some Mackie originals.

Comedian Bill Maher spent the first night of Rosh Hashanah taking aim at Macklemore and other anti-Israel celebrities, arguing that calling the war in Gaza a genocide is fueling a global rise in antisemitism.
During Friday night's episode of HBO's "Real Time," Maher first criticized members of the Democratic Party who have spoken out against Israel during the Israel-Hamas war.
"Because nowhere has this moral confusion become more obvious than in a place called Gaza," Maher said. "A little strip of land that was not part of the original Israel, but they won in a war launched against them, but then gave back, gave back as a peace gesture — did they tell you that part on TikTok, kids?"

After transferring from Crown Point in Indiana, junior tight end Ty Kennedy had to carve out a role for himself on a Mount Carmel offense that was already loaded with returning stars.
For Kennedy, though, the transition to a new team, a new school and a new state has been a smooth one.
"I wouldn't say it was hard at all," Kennedy said. "The culture here, you just have to buy into it. This place is great. I couldn't ask for anything better. Teammates, coaches. Coach (Jordan) Lynch is obviously a mastermind on the offensive side of the ball. All my teammates are great.
"It's amazing."
Kennedy is emerging as yet another playmaker for the Caravan. He hauled in four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns Friday night as host Mount Carmel pulled away late for a 56-26 Catholic League Blue win over Marist in Chicago.

TORRINGTON - Watching Nick Coleman and Kevin Leavitt run the ball for the Torrington football team in Friday night's season-opening 21-0 win over Kennedy, you might think they've been sharing the Raiders' backfield duties for ages, rather than being just the latest stars to shine in Torrington's single-wing galaxy.
When Coleman ran the ball - which he did 21 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns - there was Leavitt out ahead throwing a crisp block. When Leavitt ran the ball - which he did for 58 yards on 11 carries - there was Coleman doing the same.
They complemented each other as naturally as peanut **** er and jelly, Damon and Affleck, or - as their coach notes - thunder and lightning.
"We embrace (blocking)," said Coleman, a senior. "Single-wing offense, that's what it's about. There's no player above blocking, even if you're the quarterback, the tailback, whatever. You've got to go and make a block."
"I'd do anything for (Coleman). If I have to make a block, I'm doing whatever I can for him," Leavitt, a sophomore, said.

Carole Radziwill shared the backstory on how Kim Kardashian came to own the so-called "cursed" Cartier watch formerly belonging to Jackie Kennedy Onassis
The Bravo star came into possession of the watch when her late husband and nephew of Kennedy Onassis, Anthony Radziwill, gifted it to her for her 30th birthday
However, after seeing three women, including herself, become widowed after owning the accessory, she decided to put it up for auction through Christie's
Carole Radziwill went through a "series of very strange events" that pushed her to put Jackie Kennedy Onassis' beloved Cartier watch up for auction in 2017.
The writer and Bravo star, 63, inherited the former first lady's famous Cartier Tank watch for her 30th birthday during her marriage to Kennedy Onassis' nephew, Anthony Radziwill, who died of cancer in 1999; his father Prince Stanislaw Radziwill gifted the watch to Kennedy Onassis in 1963 and engraved it with "Stas to Jackie 23 Feb. 63 2:05 am to 9:35 pm" in reference to the 1963 50-Mile Hike in Palm Beach, according to Christie's, which ended up auctioning the piece.

Carole Radziwill is opening up about a famous family heirloom that came with an unexpected story.
The What Remains author, 63, shared the story during an appearance on Haley Sacks' Financial Tea podcast, on Thursday, September 10. "I did inherit Jackie Kennedy's Cartier watch. I ended up selling it at auction," Carole said
After Sacks suggested the watch was "cursed," Carole explained, "There was something about that watch that linked all of us — Jackie Kennedy in the '60s, me in the '90s, and then my best friend in the 2010s — and all three were widowed in their 30s."
Carole was married to Anthony Radziwill, Kennedy Onassis' nephew and John F. Kennedy Jr.'s first cousin, from 1994 until his death from cancer in August 1999. JFK Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette, died in a plane crash the previous month.
During her appearance on Financial Tea, the Real Housewives of New York City star admitted she eventually decided to auction the watch at Christie's because she hoped Cartier would buy it back.

President Donald Trump hasn't been permitted to drive on public roads since taking office in 2016, in accordance with long-standing Secret Service protocols. These rules, introduced after the **** assination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, prohibit both the president and vice president from driving themselves — even after they leave office.
HELLO!'s US Royal News Correspondent Alexandra Hurtado shared her expert insight into the topic. "After becoming president in 2017, President Trump himself said he liked to drive, but could no longer do so. While he may have given up the driver's seat of a car, he has been seen during his presidency behind the wheel of a golf cart," she shared.
Like all modern U.S. presidents, Trump was chauffeured in "The Beast," a heavily armored Cadillac limousine. Despite no longer getting behind the wheel, Trump has maintained an impressive car collection over the years, featuring luxury brands such as Cadillac, Rolls-Royce, and Lamborghini. **** O! takes a closer look at the luxury cars Donald Trump has owned over the years.
Donald Trump sat with his grandson in The Beast (@ Instagram)
Just before his first election in 2016, Trump was spotted behind the wheel of a brand-new Rolls-Royce Phantom – a fitting choice for someone with a taste for luxury. Decades earlier, he also owned a 1956 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, believed to be one of the first cars he ever purchased. According to reports, he would take it out for a spin on special occasions, making it a cherished piece in his early collection.

The Detroit Lions finally answered the Tom Kennedy roster question.
Detroit announced Thursday that it has signed Kennedy from the practice squad to the active roster and added defensive back Natrone Brooks to the practice squad. The Kennedy move fills the final opening on Detroit's 53-man roster just three days before the season opener against the New Orleans Saints.
This was the move Detroit had been telegraphing for most of the week. Kennedy was already expected to play Sunday, and special teams coordinator Dave Fipp confirmed Thursday that the veteran receiver will handle punt-return duties.
Detroit originally brought Kennedy back on the practice squad after final cuts, but leaving him there was increasingly looking temporary. He gives the Lions a fifth active receiver while solving their most obvious special-teams vacancy at the same time.
When Detroit opened two roster spots by waiving Seth McLaughlin and Jabari Small, Kennedy immediately moved to the front of the line.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Bouvier wore an ivory silk taffeta gown for her 1953 wedding to future President John F. Kennedy.
Ann Lowe, an acclaimed Black couturier for America's elite families, made Jackie's wedding dress—but her work went largely unacknowledged for decades.
Ten days before the wedding, Lowe's studio flooded and she had to remake the dress from scratch.
Eight years before she would step into the role of first lady, Jackie Kennedy became a fashion icon on her wedding day: Her silk taffeta gown remains one of the most photographed bridal looks in history.
She and then-fiancé John F. Kennedy knew their September 1953 wedding would be a spectacle. JFK, then a junior senator, was a rising political star, while his bride-to-be came from a prominent New York family. Shortly after the announcement of their engagement in June 1953, the couple jointly covered Life magazine with the headline, "Senator Kennedy Goes A-Courting"—a sign of their star power which would only grow during JFK's political ascent.

United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) CEO Scott Kirby told CNBC he wants to expand United's presence at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, returning to the congested airport through a new partnership with JetBlue Airways, American's former partner, as early as next year.
Kirby said he is also preparing for how artificial intelligence will change the airline industry. CNBC reported that Kirby, who was fired by American Airlines a decade ago when he served as its president, has floated megamerger ideas with both Delta and American over the past year but has so far been rebuffed, with antitrust experts skeptical the combinations could happen. He said he remains uninterested in acquiring a smaller carrier. United currently ranks as the second most profitable U.S. airline behind Delta, with American a "distant third."
United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) has a concrete opportunity to strengthen its position at JFK through its partnership with JetBlue. Re-entering one of the country's most valuable and slot-constrained airports would give United incremental access to a market where it has struggled to compete. The partnership could also weaken American's competitive position by pulling JetBlue away from its previous relationship with American.
United also has the financial strength to pursue an ambitious growth strategy. The airline ranks as the second-most profitable U.S. carrier behind Delta, giving CEO Scott Kirby greater flexibility to invest in network expansion, technology, and other long-term opportunities. That financial position gives United more room to pursue transformative moves without relying solely on defensive strategies.
Kirby's comments on M&A also suggest that United wants to pursue scale selectively rather than chase every available acquisition. He has expressed little interest in buying a smaller carrier while discussing the possibility of much larger combinations with Delta or American. That approach could help United focus its capital and management resources on deals that could materially strengthen its competitive position.

San Diego native Maddie Mercado scored the game-winning goal in the 29th minute as Seattle Reign FC defeated San Diego Wave FC 1-0 at Lumen Field on Sunday evening. The 25-year-old forward has now scored in both matches against her hometown team this season.
Mercado has continued her breakout season for Seattle, leading the team with eight goals. Claudia ****** ey had a standout performance between the posts, logging six saves and securing a clean sheet before leaving the match late due to an injury. Reign backup goalkeeper Cassie Miller replaced ****** ey late in the match.
Since returning from the summer break, Seattle remains unbeaten at home and has entered the playoff picture with this result. They handed San Diego its first loss since early August, snapping its two-game win streak. Wave FC is now tied for third place in the standings alongside the NC Courage and Utah Royals, with 39 points.
San Diego played with 10 players for most of the match after rookie defender Mimi Van Zanten made a questionable challenge during a Seattle transition play. Van Zanten and Kennedy Wesley were the last line of defense, and Van Zanten tripped Maddie Dahlien far away from the net.
After further review, the referee deemed the play a denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and gave her a red card in the 13th minute. Wave head coach Jonas Eidevall looked to his bench for defensive help, subbing on Brooklyn Courtnall for skilled forward Melanie Barcenas.

Former Boston Red Sox coach and manager Joe Morgan has died at age 95, the team announced Sunday. He was 95.
Morgan spent three and a half seasons as the Red Sox's manager, taking over the job partway through the 1988 season. That year, he led Boston to a 89-73 record and an AL East **** le. The stretch following Morgan's hire was dubbed "Morgan Magic," as the Red Sox won 12 straight coming out of the All-Star break.
"Joe Morgan holds a special place in Red Sox history," Red Sox owner John Henry said in a statement from the team. "When he took over in 1988, he changed the course of a season and created one of the most memorable chapters in the history of this club. The two division **** les that followed only strengthened a bond with Red Sox fans that endured for the rest of his life."
"Joe Morgan managed the Red Sox during some of my most formative years as a fan," Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy said. "Joe made us believe, and when you experience that as a kid, it stays with you. I was fortunate enough to get to know him later in life and found an even better person than the baseball man I had admired. I will miss him deeply."
As noted by Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner noted in the statement, 2026 has seen echos of the 1988 season: After the sudden firing of manager Alex Cora in April, Boston surged through the summer and is comfortably in an AL wild card spot.

New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson seemed caught off-guard after a fan claimed to have insight into his and his teammate's financial planning.
Brunson might have given up $113 million by extending his contract in 2024 instead of becoming a free agent in 2025, but that decision has already paid off to the tune of a Championship.
With Brunson also needing to recover the $113 million he left on the table, it seems fans have found out about his next move in terms of his financial planning.
A report from an X account claimed that Brunson, alongside old college teammates Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges, have signed up to become Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management clients, with former Villanova teammate Matt Kennedy as their financial advisor.
Brunson's reaction to this report was hilarious, as he confirmed his close relationship with Kennedy while asking about the sources that led to this story.

The Bob Chesney Era is off and running for the UCLA Bruins. The Bruins outlasted the Cal Bears Saturday night, picking up a 45-24 victory to move to 1-0 on the 2026 season.
It was a hard-fought win to begin Chesney's tenure, as Cal and quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele battled late into Saturday night but UCLA's defense got three turnovers and three sacks in the win.
The UCLA offense shined too. Aside from a red zone interception by Nico Iamaleava, Dean Kennedy's offense shined. UCLA rushed for 279 yards with James Madison transfer Wayne Knight looking like a star, and finding the end zone three times in his UCLA debut.
It was a balanced rushing attack, with the Bruins' offensive line winning up front, creating holes on the ground for Knight, Anthony Woods, Jaivian Thomas and Iamaleava on the ground. While Knight found the end zone three times, Woods scored twice and totaled 118 yards on only eight carries. As a team, UCLA averaged 9.0 yards per carry.
UCLA left meat on the bone late in the first half, as an Iamaleava interception led to a Cal touchdown but that didn't instill fear in the offense, as Iamaleava found Matthews for a deep pass to set up a last-second field goal to give the Bruins a 24-17 halftime lead.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Noah Fifita threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns, Kedrick Reescano ran for two scores and Arizona opened the season with a 35-7 blowout over Northern Arizona on Saturday night.
Coming off a nine-win season, the Wildcats (1-0) kicked off their third year under coach Brent Brennan with a dominating performance.
Fifita, the rare quarterback to play all five seasons with the same school, finished 22 for 29 before sitting out most of the fourth quarter. Arizona's defense held Northern Arizona to 193 total yards — minus-seven rushing — and sacked Ty Pennington five times, including 2 1/2 by Chase Kennedy.
The Wildcats jumped on the Lumberjacks (1-1) early.
Fifita hit Tre Spivey on a 20-yard touchdown on Arizona's opening drive and found Brandon Phelps on a 21-yard score in the second quarter. Fifita also had an 11-yard run, setting up Reescano's 1-yard dive that put the Wildcats up 21-0.

There was plenty of intrigue going into the opening fixture of the 2026/27 Women's Super League which saw London City Lionesses cruise past Manchester United.
London City have once again spent big and brought in high-profile players, including Alexia Putellas and Mapi Léon who both started. Those kinds of reinforcements weren't available for a new-look Manchester United with Eva Olid at the helm.
Indeed, Olid has had just a few weeks to prepare her team and that showed as United looked uncertain in their passing sequences while London City pressed high up the pitch to pin them mostly inside their own third.
Despite such dominance, both of the home side's goals came through set-pieces. The first was a corner whipped in from the left that Julia Zigiotti Olme headed into her own net under the pressure of Alanna Kennedy.
United couldn't get any attacking moves going and indeed, failed to register a shot on target throughout the game.
