Bristol City will travel to Deepdale this evening to take on Preston, as they look to pick up back-to-back wins in the Championship.
The Robins got their first three points on the board on Saturday, beating Portsmouth 2-1 in front of a packed Ashton Gate. Lorent Tolaj opened the scoring by netting his first Championship goal, before Jason Knight headed home a second on the hour mark. A late penalty for Pompey made for a nervy final few minutes in the South West, but Michael Skubala's side ultimately got over the line.
Preston, meanwhile, have lost their opening three matches to Bolton, Wolves and most recently Charlton Athletic, giving cause for concern amongst fans ahead of taking on a side that will be aiming for a play-off spot come May, whilst the Lilywhites are more worried about securing their spot in this division for next season.
Preston have underperformed their xG so far this season, creating enough chances to have scored three goals, but only netting two so far. They have also only registered an average of two shots on target per match, the lowest in the league. By contrast, the Robins have netted four goals in their last two outings, against Birmingham City and Portsmouth, with both Tolaj and Dom Ballard opening their accounts in the process.
Bristol City have picked up four points from their last two trips to Deepdale; it arguably should be six, but Anis Mehmeti failed to make his chances count last year, meaning the game finished 0-0. Max Bird, Yu Hirakawa and Nahki Wells were on the scoresheet the year before, as Liam Manning's side picked up a 3-1 win. Preston won the last meeting between these sides 2-0, back in January, when Lewis Dobbin and Alfie Devine found the net.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California would allow Jews to voluntarily identify their Jewish heritage on state forms under a bill the state Legislature passed Monday.
The bill, which lawmakers sent to Gov. Gavin Newsom's desk, would require state agencies that collect demographic information to add "Jewish" as an option for ethnicity or ancestry. The goal is to give state officials and researchers better data on Jewish Californians, including their unemployment rates and representation in schools.
The data would enable lawmakers to create policies that address the needs of Jews in the state, said David Bocarsly, CEO of Jewish California, an advocacy group.
"It's about inclusion as a community," Bocarsly said, noting the Legislature has passed laws in recent years to collect more inclusive demographic data on Middle Eastern, North African and LGBTQ+ communities.
Some opponents of the bill are worried about the idea of the state collecting such data given the traumatic history of the **** government keeping records of Jews during the Holocaust. The proposal would bar agencies from disclosing "personal identifying information," and bill author Henry Stern, a Democratic state senator who is Jewish, said California already has robust privacy protections that should **** uage those concerns.

Uber (UBER) has been managing to pull off something rare in the AI era. It has kept its AI spending flat since April, even as usage inside the company has skyrocketed. Weekly requests to its AI agents have jumped more than nine times since February, yet the total bill hasn't followed. On a per-use basis, costs have fallen sharply. The cost of every thousand requests is down about 34% from its April peak, and a single session now costs 52% less than it did in June. Uber got there by routing simple tasks to cheaper AI models and saving the expensive ones for tougher jobs. It also caps how much each session can use and shows engineers what their AI use is costing in real time.
For investors, here's why all of this matters. Uber blew its entire 2026 AI budget in four months before tightening up. Its net margin slipped from 27% to 17.3% in a year, and the stock fell after its last earnings report as the market worried about those very margins. On top of it, Uber is about to spend over $10 billion on self-driving cars. So the company potentially saving significantly on costs is precisely what investors needed to hear. AI agents now account for more than 70% of Uber's code-change submissions, and engineers run over 30,000 agent tasks a day. Management says this lets it slow hiring while doubling the code each engineer produces.

The Ravens released several players they likely want to re-sign to their practice squad over the weekend, but most are subject to waivers. All 31 teams will have a chance to claim them, in reverse order of last year's standings.
Waivers are set to process at 1 p.m. ET. Here are Baltimore's biggest risks, according to Beatdown's staff.
Dustin's take: The biggest waiver risks for me would be Robert Longerbeam, Adisa Isaac, and Rayshaun Benny. Longerbeam had a very strong preseason in his rebound from a season-ending injury that derailed his rookie season before it began last year. He deserved to make the roster, but the Ravens had too many quality cornerbacks ahead of him. Cornerback depth is of utmost importance in the NFL, so it would not surprise me to see someone claim Longerbeam. Isaac has the pedigree of being a former third-rounder, but injuries have kept him from showcasing his potential so far. I am sure that at least one team will be willing to take a chance on a young athletic pass rusher like Isaac. Similar to Longerbeam, Benny was victim to a loaded position group. Benny played well this preseason, but the team decided to go with Aeneas Peebles as the final defensive lineman over Benny, which is a decision I support.
Zach's take: The Ravens have five main guys I want on the practice squad that I'm worried about getting claimed. The first is recent seventh-round pick defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny, who flashed a bit during the preseason but not enough to steal a spot from Broderick Washington. Benny has pass potential on a brand new rookie contract so there's a chance somebody with lacking defensive line depth could put in a claim. The next is offensive tackle Gerald Lichtenhan. He was maybe the most steady offensive lineman during the preseason and a guy they had last year as well. Offensive line depth is always a luxury in the NFL, so it wouldn't be too shocking to see somebody grab him. Next is the pair of pass rushers the Ravens waived, Adisa Isaac and Kaimon Rucker. Both flashed plenty in the preseason and had sacks but Ethan Burke simply made more plays and impacts more phases of the game. I think at least one of these guys gets claimed, likely Isaac, but hopefully the Ravens can get back at least one, if not both on the practice squad. Lastly, cornerback Robert Longerbeam finally had a chance to show what he could do after suffering an injury during his rookie year last preseason. He showed great coverage and open field tackling ability and I think a team would be lucky to grab him as depth. But hopefully the Ravens can sneak last years draft pick back on their practice squad.

Finally, I broke my last tier into two pieces.
The key takeaway here is that quarterback is insanely deep with quality and upside. Draft accordingly!

Lions kicker Jake Bates did not finish the preseason strong on Saturday. Lions coach Dan Campbell is not concerned.
Bates did not attempt any field goals in the Lions' preseason finale but did attempt three extra points, missing two of them. Bates is the only kicker on the Lions' roster, so he's in no danger of getting cut, and Campbell said the Lions have full confidence in him.
"No, I'm not worried about Bates. He just pushed them a little bit. He'll be fine. He'll be fine," Campbell said.
Bates also missed a field goal in last week's preseason game, and he wasn't as good in 2025 as he was in 2024, when the Lions signed him out of the United Football League and he became one of the NFL's best kickers. It wouldn't be unreasonable for the Lions to have some concerns at kicker heading into the season, but Campbell insists he doesn't.

The Jets appeared to end their kicking competition this week when they released Cade York, but Jason Sanders's performance on Friday night may have opened things back up.
Sanders missed an extra point after a touchdown in the first quarter and he missed a field goal in the fourth quarter of the game. That led to a question for head coach Aaron Glenn about whether the Jets are going to look elsewhere for help at the position before they face the **** ans in Week 1.
"Am I worried about it? I didn't like the fact that we missed these field goals, but the thing is we're not going to panic and we're going to make sure that we make the right decision to make sure we either fix those issues or we get the right person in here," Glenn said, via a transcript from the team. "But Jason has been good for us. He's been good in practice. I'm going to evaluate that and see exactly what direction we'll go."

The FIBA World Cup is a very big deal in women's basketball, and it only comes around every four years, so you'd like for it to work smoothly. That is hardly the case for the event that begins on Friday in Berlin.
The timing, as it relates to the WNBA, is absurd. Here we have a nine-day tournament that finds the WNBA suddenly going dark near the end of its regular season, then resuming with only four games remaining per team.
The Valkyries' season goes on pause on Sunday (against Portland) and doesn't restart until Sept. 18. That's nearly a three-week break for the league's hottest team - all the while uncertain about their playoff opponent, with the seedings still to be determined.
They'll have four players engaged in the World Cup: Gabby Williams and Janelle Salaün (France), Cecilia Zandalasini (Italy) and Miela Sowah, a development player who has appeared in just five Valkyries games but was recently added to the Australian team.
Conveniently, the WNBA's eight-team playoff group is locked in, so that's one inconvenience out of the way. Certain teams and players could certainly use a break, but the league is understandably worried about injuries and, especially in the Valkyries' case, hard-earned momentum gone stale.

The rating affirmation follows one of the largest capital raises by Alibaba. Last year was a tough one for top-end tight ends, as both George Kittle, Tucker Kraft and Brock Bowers had injury trouble that derailed their fantasy seasons. That left Tre McBride to pick up the slack, catching a crazy 126 passes to set the NFL record for receptions in a season. At this point there is a real chance all three of those injured stud tight ends might be available for Week 1!
We had some fresh talent infuse the tight end position last season, with three rookies putting up strong numbers. Tyler Warren, Colston Loveland, and Harold Fannin Jr. all proved their fantasy worth and look to build on their strong rookie campaigns. It's nice to have those guys added to what is usually a pretty shallow pool of top fantasy tight ends.
In twelve team leagues that start one tight end, there are often not enough capable fantasy tight ends to go around. This year I'd be happy with eleven of this group being my starter. And since we can wait longer to pick up a TE starter we like, we don't have to waste a second or third round pick on a stud.
Kittle ruptured his Achilles in 2026 and is trying to play in Week 1 of the 2026 season at the age of 33! The odds are stacked against him, but I wouldn't put it past him to have yet another strong year in Kyle Shanahan's offense. We get a discount on him this season, but for good reason.
Kraft was absolutely on fire to start last season, putting up 32 receptions for 489 yards and six touchdowns through seven and a half games. Unfortunately, a torn ACL ended his amazing start. All signs point to him playing in Week 1 and Kraft is only 25 and going into his fourth season. I'm not as worried about him as I am Kittle.

For any followers of Detroit Catholic Central who were a little worried about how a quality and deep senior class from last year's Division 1 state championship team would be replaced, Thursday's season opener against Clinton Chippewa Valley showed that Catholic Central should be just fine.
Catholic Central opened up its ****** le defense with a 55-0 rout of Chippewa Valley, showing it will still be elite behind a blend of upperclassmen who showed they should thrive in expanded roles, and talented underclassmen who should be household names soon on the recruiting circuit — if they aren't already.
"We focused on our process and working really hard," Catholic Central head coach Justin Cessante said. "I thought we did that all summer. These guys really want their own identity. We wanted to set the tone for the season and they sure did."
Catholic Central entered the season opener with just two returning starters on defense, one of whom was one of the country's top recruits in senior Gideon Gash, who has committed to Texas Tech.
Gash was his customary brilliant self, making plays in the passing game on offense, as a defensive back on defense and on special teams, returning a punt 48 yards for a touchdown.

The one-year moratorium was enacted to give New York the time to refine its regulations. New York Governor Kathy Hochul wants all new data centers to be subject to the same "consistent standards."
The state plans to review and research the environmental impact of data center construction and operation – and once standards are agreed upon, the moratorium will end.
Upstate New York is ideal for data centers, given cheap hydroelectric power and a direct-current grid from Hydro-Québec. So, I suspect construction will resume once these standards are set.

"According to the Washington Post, a lot of doctors are worried about the president's weight," the singer, 41, said on the Aug. 24 episode. "After his last physical, we found out Trump gained 14 pounds, which means he's now tipping the scales at almost 240. It's crazy."
