Former Manchester City winger Mark Kennedy believes Erling Haaland is the perfect candidate to take on the captaincy role.
City have jetted off for their pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Seoul, but Enzo Maresca is yet to name the new club captain.
Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, Kennedy said: "Every time I watch City I see a leader [in Erling Haaland].
"I see someone driving the team forward and someone not giving up. Every time I watch City, he catches my eye in terms of his leadership qualities."
During the 2024-25 campaign, Haaland captained Guardiola's side on occasions, but was not named the outright skipper for his side.

Chelsea are finalising a move for Brighton striker Danny Welbeck after he was given permission to have a medical at Stamford Bridge.
Welbeck, 35, is set to link up with his new club in Hong Kong next week for pre-season as he prepares to sign a two-year contract.
The move is part of new manager Xabi Alonso's recruitment drive to add experience to Chelsea's squad, which has been the youngest in the Premier League for the past two seasons.
Their focus on youth has been viewed as a factor in their inability to challenge consistently for major honours.
Towards the end of last season's disappointing campaign, when they finished 10th and won nothing, Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali said their recruitment model needed a "tweak".

Bayern Munich proved to be ahead of the curve with the signing of Moroccan star Ismael Saibari. However, his injury in the game against Canada in the round of 16 ended his run at the World Cup. Now, after examination by Bayern's medical team, the versatile forward is set to join his teammates in the second week of August after they return from their Audi Summer tour.
Per a report by Kicker's Frank Linkesch, Saibari's injury has been inspected by the Bayern medical team in Munich. The diagnosis has revealed a torn muscle fiber in his thigh. The 25-year-old will be missing on the annual Audi Summer tour. The tour will be back in Asia from the 1st to the 8th of August, in the cities of Jeju, South Korea and Hong Kong. Die Roten will be facing Jeju SK FC and the Premier League's Aston Villa respectively.
With Saibari out for another 10 days, returnee Arijon Ibrahimović is likely to get game time in the upcoming friendly fixtures. More players are expected to return from the injury wing for Bayern including Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl and Alphonso Davies. With the new signings, the club have beefed up a slim but high quality attacking roster to better cope with the gameload.

SINGAPORE/HONG KONG, July 27 (Reuters) - Investors are expected to scrutinise whether Shein can justify the $40 billion to $50 billion valuation it is seeking in a Hong Kong initial public offering after a prospectus filed on Sunday showed slowing growth and a sharp decline in profitability.
Revenue rose 8% to $41.8 billion in 2025, but net income fell 39% to $2.06 billion. In the first quarter of this year, the fast fashion retailer swung to a $99 million loss, the filing showed.
While the quarterly loss partly reflected a $328 million fair-value charge on convertible redeemable preferred shares following an accounting change, slowing revenue growth and weaker core earnings underscore the company's mounting challenges.
"Institutional investors on the HKEX (Hong Kong Stock Exchange) will ... zero in on the 2.9% operating margin," said Winston Ma, executive director of the Global Public Investment Funds Forum and a former managing director at the China Investment Corporation.

HONG KONG/JOHOR, Malaysia, July 24 (Reuters) - After leapfrogging Singapore to become the region's fastest-growing data centre hub, Malaysia is facing intensifying scrutiny as the resources debate that has complicated the industry's growth spreads to emerging Asia.
Protests over a data centre complex in Johor state's southern tip — the epicentre of the boom — were the first of their kind in the country. In Selangor, the richest and most populous state, debate about the burden on communities has become politicised.
"Two years ago, it was just about building capacity," said Cheam Tat Inn, managing director at the Malaysian arm of U.S. data centre operator Equinix.
"The conversation today is more like, How will you use power? Are you looking at renewables? They want to see how you're going to grow sustainably and responsibly."

For Anne-Laure Descours, the question fashion observers should be asking isn't why so many brands destroy unsold merchandise but why they produce enough overstock to make it necessary in the first place.
"If you plan better and produce the right amounts of goods, you'd be less exposed to mass destruction," the Hong Kong-based supply chain veteran said.

Average liner revenue per TEU grew by 10.1%, on firmer market conditions on major east-west trades rather than just increased volume.
The performance varied across trade lanes, with the trans-Pacific route serving as a primary driver of upside. Volume jumped by 21.5% to 608,979 TEUs, while revenue climbed 29.3% to $973.7 million.

HONG KONG/NEW YORK, July 13 (Reuters) - South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix may have had a rousing $26.5 billion U.S. share sale and market debut last week, but that owed much to its pivotal role in the AI supply chain and timing.
Other Asian tech firms are expected to take note and also look to tap foreign investors but they are likely to find appetite for AI-related companies more selective, investors say.
Current levels of investor exuberance over AI are going to be hard to maintain as fears grow about the sustainability of AI-driven stock rallies, while chip stocks also tend to be volatile due to the historical boom-and-bust cyclical nature of the industry.
"SK Hynix is a special case because it is large, liquid, AI-critical, and hard for many U.S. investors to own directly," said Ophir Gottlieb, CEO of Capital Market Laboratories.

Shein is working on plans to raise between $2bn and $3bn in an initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong, with the share sale possibly launching as early as August, reported Bloomberg, citing unnamed sources.
The online fast-fashion retailer received approval from China's securities regulator on 10 July, advancing its long-running push to list.
According to sources, the final amount to be raised has not been determined and will depend on the company's valuation and investor demand during the process.
The same sources said the plans are still subject to revision, with both the size and timing of the offering liable to change.
Bloomberg said Shein did not respond when contacted for comment.

HONG KONG (AP) — Major German carmakers saw sharp quarterly sales declines in China as domestic demand weakened and competition heated up in the world's biggest auto market.
At Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche, China sales for the April-June quarter plummeted between 30% and 41% compared with the same period a year ago, according to company data released over the past week.
For the first half of this year, they all reported a more than 20% year-on-year drop in China. The falling China sales have squeezed their overall profits and in some cases offset gains from other regions.
This also comes at a time when these legacy German carmakers are faced with intensified competition from Chinese automakers outside of China, including in Europe, as leading Chinese brands like BYD make inroads overseas.
The latest quarterly sales declines were some of the steepest seen for the German automakers in China, said Lei Xing, an independent auto ******* yst.

HONG KONG, July 10 (Reuters) - China's submarine-fired ballistic missile test into the southern Pacific on Monday gave its military leadership an opportunity to examine some of the most complex and sensitive operations of its evolving nuclear deterrent, ***** ysts and diplomats say.
Commanding, controlling and communicating with nuclear-armed submarines attempting to operate undetected pose immense challenges, they say - something felt acutely by a Chinese Communist Party leadership where the military's political loyalty is paramount.
"This aspect is certainly something that would have been very much evaluated, besides looking at the actual technical capabilities of the missile and submarine," said Collin Koh, a security scholar at Singapore's S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies.
"There are still challenges ahead but it would seem they are getting close to an operational strike capability here...they are probably trying to demonstrate that even if they can't get into a position to hit the continental U.S., they could still target Guam and Hawaii."

LONDON/HONG KONG, July 10 (Reuters) - Fast-fashion retailer Shein won approval for its long-awaited Hong Kong IPO on Friday, a notice posted on the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) website showed, clearing the way for a listing after failed attempts in New York and London.
Shein, a fast-growing e-commerce giant, would be the highest-profile retailer to list in years, as many consumer brands have delayed initial public offerings due to weak investor sentiment and subdued spending by lower- to middle-income shoppers.
Founded by Chinese-born entrepreneur Sky Xu in 2012, Shein has waited a year for the green light from Beijing for its IPO, which had to be cleared by the highest levels of the ruling Communist Party, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter.
Beijing views Shein as politically sensitive and has been cautious about endorsing a listing after controversies including a ******* doll scandal in France and reports of poor labour practices at its supplier factories in China, the source said.

Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) is one of the undervalued stocks to buy according to the Wall Street. On July 2, Access Advance LLC and Alibaba Group announced that Alibaba expanded its participation in the Video Distribution Patent/VDP Pool by becoming a Licensee. This agreement provides Alibaba access to a comprehensive license for HEVC, VVC, VP9, and AV1 codec technologies, building upon the company's existing role as a Licensor in the pool and its previous engagement through the VVC Advance Patent Pool.
The VDP Pool's single-license structure simplifies the complex licensing needs of Alibaba Group Holding Limited's (NYSE:BABA) diverse ecosystem, which spans e-commerce, digital media, and entertainment. By consolidating coverage for four major video codecs into one royalty rate, the agreement removes the need for multiple bilateral contracts, allowing Alibaba to scale its video-based services more efficiently as it continues to integrate advanced streaming technologies.

Both organizations highlighted this expansion as a meaningful step in their multi-year collaboration, emphasizing a shared commitment to a stable licensing ecosystem. This partnership aims to support the continued development and adoption of next-generation video standards, ensuring that innovations remain accessible and beneficial for both patent holders and technology users across the global market.

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong is scheduled to be sentenced in September in a case brought under a Beijing-imposed national security law that critics say has stifled the city's pro-democracy movement.
Wong, a former student leader in the pro-democracy movement, was arrested in June 2025 on suspicion of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security. It was the second time Wong was charged under the national security law introduced in Hong Kong in 2020, following massive anti-government protests that rocked the city the year before.
The judiciary's website on Tuesday showed a hearing for plea and sentence is planned for Wong on Sept. 2. It's expected to take one day.
Wong was accused of conspiring with fellow activist Nathan Law and others to ask foreign countries or institutions, organizations or individuals outside of China to impose sanctions, blockades or engage in other hostile actions against Hong Kong or China between July 1 and Nov. 23, 2020.
The offense is punishable by a prison term of three to 10 years, or up to life imprisonment if it is deemed to be "of a grave nature."
