Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META), OpenAI and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) now appear on the same policy letter supporting open-weight AI. Anthropic does not. The letter published on July 24 asks U.S. policymakers to avoid broad restrictions on models whose weights can be downloaded, modified and run privately. OpenAI and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) joined after the initial publication, Axios reported on July 27.
Nvidia sells the hardware and software used to train and run AI models. A larger field of model developers, more local deployments, and cheaper inference can all expand demand for its products. Nvidia can benefit even if the models themselves become difficult to monetize.
Source: unsplash
Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) has another reason to favor open weights. Its models can enter products and corporate systems that might otherwise rely on OpenAI or Anthropic. Outside developers improve the tools, hosting services and integrations around them. Meta can benefit through its applications, advertising business and infrastructure without charging for every model call.
Closed frontier labs can still justify their prices through better performance, enterprise support, reliability and safety. But every task an open model can perform well enough becomes harder to sell through an expensive proprietary API. Customers can also host a model themselves instead of sending data to one provider indefinitely. OpenAI and Anthropic could consequently lose some pricing power and customer lock-in.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board on Monday said President Trump is wrong in his pressure campaign to get rid of the Senate filibuster for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act.
"Bad ideas are everywhere in Washington, but here's one that belongs in a hall of fame: President Trump is again pressing Republicans to nuke the Senate's 60-vote filibuster rule to pass the SAVE America Act," the Journal's editorial board wrote.
"Or in other words, hand progressives the tools to pack the Supreme Court and create new states, in exchange for a voting bill that isn't a clear political winner for the GOP," the board continued.
The editorial decried getting rid of the filibuster "in exchange for the SAVE America Act," saying it is "a terrible trade."
"Whether or not Mr. Trump truly believes that hordes of illegal voters are the only reason Republicans ever lose, it isn't true," the board said in the piece.

Night View Capital, an investment management firm, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. The letter highlights that AI is a transformative force, comparable to electricity due to its industry-wide impact. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. Although fears about the software sector have led to significant declines in stock prices, the letter argues that AI integration will ultimately benefit many companies. They recognize that some software firms may experience temporary slowdowns, but most will adapt and succeed by embracing AI, citing advantages like systems of record, high switching costs, entrenched distribution, and rapid AI adoption. The sharp decline in software valuations appears to be an overreaction rather than a sign of industry failure. Nightview believes the so-called "software panic of 2026" is temporary, and resilient businesses will adapt and flourish in the age of AI. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Night View Capital highlighted Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM). Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) is a cloud computing company that offers Customer Relationship Management (CRM) technology that brings companies and customers together. On July 27, 2026, Salesforce, Inc. Night View Capital stated the following regarding Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) is our clearest expression of the system-of-record thesis. It holds the customer relationships of a large slice of the corporate world. That data is the fuel for every AI sales and service agent a company might want to deploy, and the natural place to deploy them is inside the platform that already holds the data. When the software selloff was at its most indiscriminate, we added to our position. We were, in effect, buying the fear."
Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) ranks 28 on our list of 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds Heading Into 2026. According to our database, 101 hedge fund portfolios held Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) at the end of the first quarter, compared to 115 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the risk and potential of Salesforce, Inc. O'Keeffe Stevens Advisory, an investment advisory firm, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. During Q2 2026, the market experienced notable dispersion between perceived AI losers and winners. The firm has made investments early in AI infrastructure companies, which yielded gains during market repricing. The second quarter experienced strong equity rallies, with the S&P 500 gaining 15.2% and the Nasdaq 21.4%, marking the best quarter since Q2 2020. While the software sector faced challenges, with the iShares Software ETF dropping ~27% before a rally, reflecting high volatility. This volatility is seen as an opportunity, despite the potential for 'dead money' in underperforming stocks. The firm remains cautious, focuses on owning durable businesses at reasonable prices, holding cash, and hedging risks to navigate unpredictability. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, O'Keeffe Stevens Advisory highlighted Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:CALY). Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:CALY) is a global manufacturer of golf equipment, golf and lifestyle apparel, and other accessories. On July 27, 2026, Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:CALY) closed at $18.27 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $3.28 billion. Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:CALY) posted a one-month return of -2.77%, while its shares gained 89.72% over the past 52 weeks.
O'Keeffe Stevens Advisory stated the following regarding Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:CALY) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:CALY): Post the announced sale of their TopGolf business, the next catalyst to the story is demonstrating the clean, high-quality business of the remaining club, ball, and apparel business. Q1 net sales rose 9.2% to $687.5m, adjusted EBITDA climbed 31.1% to $163.7 million, and non-GAAP net income from continuing operations increased 96%, with gross margin up roughly 260 basis points, absorbing about $18m of incremental tariX expense. Management raised its full-year outlook, and the summer thus far has been a net positive for the golf industry. On capital return, through April 30, Callaway repurchased 5.6 million shares at an average cost of $14.08 ($79 million of the $200 million authorization), and on May 1 the company settled its $258 million of convertible notes in cash and remains in a net cash position. Our thesis continues to play out, and while the stock has materially appreciated, we still see upside to numbers. Management is acting exactly as expected, reducing debt, returning capital a complex-to-simple story easy for all to understand better."

AMSTERDAM, July 28 (Reuters) - China's launch of a homegrown type of advanced lithography chip printing machine is spotlighting how European chip tool maker ASML, whose recent share price surge made it Europe's most valuable listed company, is being squeezed between two sides.
On the one hand, U.S. controls on exports of high-tech goods to China are threatening to reduce access to a major market; and on the other, Beijing's push for technological independence in areas such as chip production raises the possibility of a China-based competitor.
Reuters reported on Tuesday that a little-known Chinese state-owned firm called Shanghai Aishengna Electronic Technology Group was leading an effort to mass produce locally made immersion deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography tools, key to modern chipmaking.
ASML, which dominates the market for DUV and more cutting-edge EUV machines that print circuitry on AI chips, saw its shares fall some 10% in two days following this report, enough to wipe more than €60 billion off its stock market value.

"Sotera Health Company (NASDAQ:SHC): We have been following Sotera Health for several years. The business is exceptional: a sterilization duopoly with Sterigenics and Steris combined controlling an estimated 70% of the sterilization market. Sotera's Sterigenics business boasts 50% EBITDA margins, mission-critical regulated services, and cobalt-60 production that is nearly impossible to replicate. Yet we never bought it because of one thing: Warburg Pincus held a material stake and was consistently selling into the market. We do not buy high quality businesses where forced sellers will pressure the stock regardless of fundamental improvement. We look for situations where forced sellers create dislocation, allowing us to buy a stock for cheaper than what it would trade for without such selling pressure. On the bip side, we look to sell into forced buyers pushing stock prices up irrespective of fundamentals. In early 2026, Warburg sold its last share. Combined with a valuation that was cheap given the quality of the business model, we thought it made sense to purchase the stock.
At their November 2024 Investor Day, management outlined a 2025-2027 plan targeting 5%-7% organic revenue growth and 5%-8% adjusted EBITDA growth, with at least 50bps of EBITDA margin expansion annually. Sterigenics represents over 60% of revenue, and we expect

PayPal (PYPL) stock rose more than 4% on Tuesday after the payments giant defended its multiyear turnaround plan without completely closing the door to a potential merger.
"While there is still significant work ahead, I have strong conviction in our direction and in our ability to execute," PayPal president and CEO Enrique Lores said.
"At the same time, we remain open and objective in evaluating opportunities," he added. "If we see levers or a path that we believe would create superior value for our shareholders that execute in our current strategy, we would, of course, carefully consider them."
Earlier this year, Stripe and private equity firm Advent offered to acquire PayPal for around $60 per share, according to a report from Reuters earlier this month. The news sent PayPal's stock surging.
"For now, while we remain open, our focus is on executing our own strategic plan," Lores added.

Apple (AAPL) on Tuesday briefly became the second publicly traded company in history to hit a market capitalization of $5 trillion.
The tech giant hit the milestone less than a year after topping $4 trillion in October 2025.
Apple stock is up roughly 24% year to date and nearly 60% over the past 12 months, driven by strong iPhone sales.
Investors have criticized Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple over the past few years, concerned that the company was too far behind in the AI race. While Apple initially debuted its Apple Intelligence platform in 2024, it delayed key parts of the software, including an upgraded version of Siri.
That led to executive shakeups at the company. Apple eventually signed a deal to use Google's (GOOG, GOOGL) Gemini AI models to power the voice ***** istant.

Carillon Tower Advisers, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Carillon Eagle Growth & Income Fund". A copy of the letter is available to download here. The second quarter of 2026 was driven by a sharp rally in AI-related stocks, although gains were concentrated in highly cyclical semiconductor, memory and optical companies. The S&P 500 gained 15.2%, while the semiconductor index surged 87.8%. Unlike earlier AI rallies led by megacaps and strong earnings growth, some smaller technology stocks rose 200% to 300%, making the advance more fragile. Software and services stocks declined as investors questioned the impact of AI disruption. Oil prices also rose during the Iran conflict before retreating, briefly increasing inflation and interest-rate concerns. Despite the volatility, economic data and corporate earnings remained strong. S&P 500 earnings are projected to rise 25% in 2026 and 15% in 2027, with the market trading near 20x earnings. The Fund continues to focus on financially strong companies with durable earnings growth that can perform across different economic conditions. A pit in my stomach formed last night in the train as I read Hugging Face's latest blog post on how its servers got hacked by OpenAI's models in early July. I had printed out the 23-page report for the ride since service can be spotty underground. Seeing the story laid out in physical form underscored just how outrageous it is. I wondered if the person next to me was peering over my shoulder at my strange, stapled Sci-Fi novel on the first significant autonomous AI hack.
Alongside the Hugging Face report, OpenAI published a few more details in a seven-bullet-point update to its July 21 blog that revealed its models' involvement in the incident. OpenAI contributed to Hugging Face's post-mortem, and said it plans to publish more of its side of the story "in the coming weeks" after completing a thorough internal review. OpenAI faces significant pressure to do so from security researchers, executives, and, well, just about everyone in the AI industry to share learnings and ensure the proper guardrails are in place going forward.
How OpenAI's technology escaped a sandbox and hacked into another company is a remarkable story, and one in which the details are still coming in piecemeal. But here's what we know so far and what we're still waiting to find out.
Another tech company called Modal Labs said OpenAI's agent also accessed its systems, as first reported by Reuters on Tuesday and confirmed by Fortune. Though that's a somewhat shocking twist in this tale, it's not even the full scope of the attack.
OpenAI's updated blog post confirms the models broke into four accounts across four publicly available services in total. The company did not name them, but said it would "notify service owners directly." We can expect more of this information to come out in time, but OpenAI says so far it has "not identified any other activity at the level of severity or scale of what we've shared related to Hugging Face, which involved a platform-level compromise."

Training camp is finally underway, which means dominoes are going to start falling day by day in the quarterback battle between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy. Early on, there are not likely to be many nuggets that we get from camp, but head coach Kevin O'Connell did throw the media one bone.
Sports Illustrated's Will Ragatz shared that O'Connell told the media on Tuesday, July 28, that they will be splitting first-team reps in camp early on.
The offense is built to elevate the quarterbacks, even if they are looking for that relationship to be the other way. Both McCarthy and Murray are going to be with the best supporting cast and offensive line they have ever had. It may seem inconventional, but the offense will figure out the starter for the coaching staff by showing them who they work best with, not the other way around.

Colorado is five days away from opening its 2026 fall camp as the Buffaloes begin preparations for Deion Sanders' fourth season at the helm. The Buffs had a solid offseason despite many changes, including two new coordinators and 40-plus transfers, most with proven production, albeit at a non-Power Four level.
One of those players is Sacramento State transfer wide receiver Ernest Campbell. The speedy wideout is one of Pro Football Focus' highest-graded returning Big 12 wide receivers. He comes in ranked as the fifth-best returner with an 85.9 overall grade.
Campbell is coming off a breakout season at Sacramento State after being named to the FCS Central Freshman All-American Team. He led the Hornets with 37 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns. The most impressive stat from his 2025 season is his average of 20.41 yards per reception. Campbell's explosivity is by far his best trait, and he should be the big-play threat in Brennan Marion's Go-Go offense, which he knows well. He had touchdowns of 75, 63,60, 57 and 50 yards.
Campbell unsurprisingly has a track background, competing collegiately at Texas A&M as a true freshman in 2024. He recorded a 10.02 100m time at the NCAA West First Round meet and was an honorable mention All-American, placing 22nd at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
Colorado is used to having wide receivers with speed, with players like LaJohntay Wester and Jimmy Horn Jr. adding a different dynamic during the 9-4 2024 season. CU is hoping Campbell can be that element this year and that it will lead to a similarly strong season.

Have you ever imagined your team having a shirt with ONE THOUSAND sponsors?
That was the solution found by Peru's Club Deportivo Municipal to fund the season after being relegated to the Copa Peru, a tournament equivalent to the Fourth Division.
The campaign "Los Mil Sponsors del Muni" ("The Thousand Sponsors of Muni," in Portuguese) was launched in January. And it was a huge success.
It took just three months for a large part of the one thousand small ****** es to be sold for 200 Peruvian soles each (around R$ 300).
"An initiative that challenges conventional sports marketing, with a new sponsorship program. One thousand ****** es available for businesses and ventures at affordable prices, an innovation through which, together, we add up the amount needed to take the club back to the place it deserves," the club said at the time of the initiative's launch.

As he negotiates a new long-term deal with Detroit, Lions star running back Jahmyr Gibbs did not practice on Wednesday during Detroit's first training camp practice.
Gibbs is a hold-in, meaning he is at Lions training camp but not currently participating.
"Of course, you guys know how we feel about Gibbs and all of our guys, (Sam) LaPorta, (Brian) Branch. And so, we'll take this as it comes. This will kind of continue. It'll come as it comes. I think that's the best way to say it. And so, this is both sides working through something and we'll take it as it comes, but that's where it is," Campbell said of Gibbs to open camp.
The Lions executed the fifth-year player option on Gibbs back in April, keeping the star rusher under contract through the 2027 NFL season. Gibbs will earn $14.293 million in 2027 with his player option.
Gibbs, a 5-foot-9, 202-pound back, rushed for 1,223 yards and 13 scores a season ago. The Alabama alum's rushing yards ranked seventh in the NFL last season. Gibbs also added 616 receiving yards and five touchdown grabs, helping him eclipse 1,800+ yards from scrimmage for a second straight season.

Ashlynd Barker has a different feeling about Florida State football heading into the 2026 season.
The standout safety is in his third year with the program, and despite a record of 7-17 over the last two seasons and increased pressure, he feels the Seminoles have the chance to be "super good" this season.
Barker acknowledged it's early in preseason practice, but his belief is based on what he felt was a strong offseason and a lack of egos on the team.
"I was talking to K.J. (Kirkland) on the sidelines after we got off the field from a drive. I was saying, "We are going to be super good," Barker said after the first preseason practice.
"It's the first day I know, everyone can say that. I don't know why, but I just feel like there is something about this time. The main thing is there are no egos. You can say something to someone, and they won't talk back."

49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is dealing with more knee problems.
The team said that Pearsall is out of practice on Wednesday because of swelling in his knee. The issue is related to the PCL injury that Pearsall suffered last year.
Pearsall was limited to nine games last season and he also missed time due to a hamstring injury.
The team said, via multiple reporters, that they are exploring all options to deal with Pearsall's swelling and that there is some "concern" about the nature of the injury.
Christian Kirk remains sidelined by a calf injury, so the 49ers are short on healthy wideouts at the moment. If either injury leads to an extended absence, the 49ers may be in the market for some more help at the position.

Bayern Munich's new defender Nathaniel Brown will wear the No. 11 shirt for the club.
The versatile left-back will be wearing the number in a rather unorthodox manner, as the No. 11 is normally ***** ociated with forward players. While defensive players definitely have worn similar numbers before, it is still considered a departure from tradition.
However, Bayern is no stranger to odd number choices, with backup striker Sandro Wagner choosing the No. 2 and central midfielder Xabi Alonso wearing the No. 3 in his debut season. The latter did switch to his preferred No. 14 in the season after, though.
According to board member for sport Max Eberl, as captured by iMiaSanMia, the number was originally offered to winger Michael Olise, who wears the number for France. However, Olise reportedly wanted to keep his No. 17 shirt for Bayern. Whether the number was also offered to fellow winger Luis Díaz is unknown.
Bayern's No. 11 has had a variety of owners over the past decade, including Douglas Costa, James Rodríguez, and Kingsley Coman. The number was most recently worn by Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson. Perhaps the most notable player who wore it was Stefan Effenberg, who captained Bayern to a Bundesliga and Champions League double while wearing said number.

The San Francisco 49ers had a few players go down with injuries early on in training camp, and now they've decided to move on from Andrew Farmer II and William Bradley-King to make room for linebacker Quinton Bell and defensive end K.J. Henry.
Farmer played at Lane from 2018-22. After going undrafted in 2023, he's spent one season with the Los Angeles Chargers, one with the Denver Broncos and one with the 49ers. Over his three years in the league, he's appeared in eight games and recorded three tackles. The 26-year-old suffered a back injury on Sunday.
Bradley-King played at Arkansas State from 2016-19, earning All-Sun Belt honors twice, before transferring to Baylor for one final season. He went in the seventh round (No. 240 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft, and spent time with the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins before joining the 49ers last year. He's appeared in four games and recorded seven tackles and a half-sack over the last five years in the league. The 28-year-old was injured Monday.
If both players going unclaimed on waivers, they would revert back to San Francisco's injured reserve, ending their season. They'd only be able to return in 2026 if they come to an injury settlement with the team at some point.
