Some days, Tamara Johnson wonders how her life changed so rapidly.
Johnson, 58, made six figures in an executive leadership position, and when her mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and dementia in 2017, she moved from New Orleans to Virginia, where she continued to work while caring for her mother.
Three years after her mom's death in 2020, Johnson's husband suffered a series of catastrophic medical events. To care for him full-time, she took a temporary leave and then quit her job this year. She relied on income from her job's deferred resignation program and her savings to pay for his long-term care. Johnson estimates her family spent over $700,000 in total between her mom's and husband's care. Coming up with that money has been harder, as her husband's income from medical disability retirement was quartered.
"I was one of those people who was taught that you don't quit, you suck it up, and you keep going," Johnson said. "I felt like I didn't have the luxury of falling apart, because if I fell apart, then who would pick up the slack?"

According to a report in German trade publication Automobilwoche, General Motors Co (NYSE:GM) plans to stop Chevrolet sales in China after nearly 21 years. The figures driving the decision are stark: Chevrolet sold over 767,000 vehicles in China in 2014, its peak year. Last year, that figure had fallen to less than 9,000 units, a 98.8% decrease in just over a decade. GM's answer has been to double down on its two surviving, more successful Chinese brands, focusing on Buick and Cadillac, with Buick specifically finding success with its new Electra electric vehicle series.
Chevrolet's decline is a symptom of a broader fundamental instability. Foreign automakers' overall share of China's auto market has plummeted, dropping from 53% to around 33% in just two years, while local Chinese companies led by BYD and Geely have taken control.
Ford's version of the retreat, announced on August 13, focuses on Lincoln, its luxury brand. Ford announced that beginning in 2030, it will stop producing Lincoln vehicles in China for the US market and instead expand Lincoln manufacturing domestically. (NewsNation) — A Colorado woman said she saw a massive Bigfoot "gliding" through the woods in late July, according to a post on the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization's sightings database.
Lori Bowing said she was in the car with her husband, looking for wildlife near Lake City in Hinsdale County, when she saw what she described as a Bigfoot near the edge of the woods. She estimated the figure was between 7 feet and 9 feet tall based on the size of the surrounding trees.
"I saw this critter take 4-5 big gliding steps before it left my view due to the road curve," Bowing said. "Trust me when I say I am not a bigfoot believer, but after what I saw I sure in the ******* am now!"

When the Tennessee **** ans took the practice field on Aug. 15 just a shade before 2:30 p.m., the AccuWeather "RealFeel" was 110 degrees and the heat index was a much-milder 104 in Nashville. So let's start off **** ans observations by highlighting the real heroes of the day: the hydration squad.
By The Tennessean's count, the **** ans had at least a dozen water runners on the field at all times. After practice, one of the staffers estimated for The Tennessean that they went through the equivalent of 20-30 bags of ice to make everything work. This is part of an **** embly-line process wherein the water runners bring caddies of four-to-six squeeze-top water bottles over to a golf cart with three multi-gallon coolers filled with ice water and a big green ladle. Some of the squeeze bottles are marked off with tape or elastic wristbands to signify they're the ones to be spiked with electrolyte powders and packets from companies like LMNT (specifically the raspberry flavor) and DripDrop. The cart is also stocked with dozens of fresh towels and mini bottles of Gatorade on ice to be used as needed.
During the 10 minutes of the opening team period alone, staffers refilled 29 water bottles.
The all-hands-on-deck mentality was evident. One staffer joking asked media in the middle of practice to hop over the ropes and help "water the players." The **** ans even took a 10-minute halftime in practice so players could go into the cold room and cool off.

Cologne are reportedly prepared to offer the Tunisia international approximately €1.5m per year. Skhiri currently ranks among Frankfurt's higher earners and has yet to accept the proposed terms.

The midfielder was omitted from Adi Hütter's training-camp squad after being informed that he no longer featured prominently in the club's plans. A return to Köln initially appeared one of the most logical solutions. That option subsequently seemed dead, however.
GGFN reported during Köln's pursuit of Wolfsburg midfielder Vinicius Souza that Skhiri was no longer considered an option at the RheinEnergieStadion. In addition to listing his alternative ****** et manager Pershing Square and its new stock-picking fund Pershing Square USA, he abandoned a $1.5 billion position in Universal Music after the company said no to a $65 billion takeover.
On Thursday, he revealed one of the biggest shakeups at those funds in years, writing that Pershing took on six new holdings in the second quarter: Netflix, Mastercard and Visa, eye care firm Alcon, exchange operator Intercontinental, and financial data provider S&P Global.
